A guid auld Scots song....ma Granni used ti sing it ti me as a bairn lol. Sadly Bonnie Prince Charlie was a useless commander who won due to British army mistakes and the few really good soldiers he had. Who fought with musket and bayonet mainly. Swords were rare. I'm the battle of prestonpans it's true that a lot of his men had makeshift weapons but after that it was muskets except the front rank men who would have ideally a sword, dirk, targe, dag(pistol)and musket. I'm scottish,my ancestors stood in the ranks at Culloden while British army cannonballs ripped through them. The battlefield is a lovely but sad place. Finding out the battle details is best done with Reid's Like hungry wolves(an excellent revised edition just came to me from partizan press last year)and to put the battle into the wars context Christopher Duffy does that. Helion books are a goldmine of great books on the war.
He definitly wasn't a good commander. But he was a great soldier and that is a fact, he had good commanders under him the problem is that he choose to follow the advise of those that were more accustom to command regular troops. Instead he should had followed Murray advised since Murray was much better at commanding highlanders. Even then there was a great disparity in the supply line of the Jacobite army vs goverment army, because of how the Highland army worked. The Prince biggest problem was his short time had he had more time he would had triumph, but he needed to act fast, so he gave up creating supply lines to move has fast has possible and reach London, but the Clan chiefs feared being trapped in England. I personally believe the Prince believed a lot in his Charisma and tought that when reaching London he may have been able to get a portion of the population to side with him, just like he did in Scotand were he first was refused by the Clan Chiefs, but then they supported him.
Ngl I feel like this really describes the whole Stewart Monarchy. They were all rather crummy rulers and any successes they had were simply due to luck. You could argue that Mary and her Son James I were exceptions but they were like mid rulers at best. They certainly weren’t anywhere near Edward III, Alfred the Great, or Elizabeth I.

Would you fight for the Stuart monarchy if they tried to reclaim the throne or liberate Scotland?

Bonnie Prince Charlie ran away dressed like a woman to escape the English.
And he did
“Why do you like the Jacobins, Vikingrs, IRA, and Parliamentarians at the same time? They hated each other!”
“I like em cuz I just hate the Crown.”
