3:00 Funny you mention that- that Robotnik design IS referenced in canon material! Namely, it’s the inspiration for the “Mr. Tinker” look Eggman gets in the IDW Comics, where Eggman gets amnesia shortly after the events of Sonic Forces and lives a happier life for a short time. The outfit’s colours are the same as the concept protagonist Robotnik design here, reflecting how Mr. Tinker is actually a good person.
Yeah, not only it is referenced on its color schemes through Mr. Tinker, with that idea of Eggman becoming good so it's using his color schemes when he was supposed to be the protagonist (with even the same slippers) It's also referenced sometimes throughout the years In the official video "An Eggman Carol" released in 2020, that pajamas is the ones Eggman is wearing when he goes to sleep In the story "Dr. Eggman's Birthday", one of the 3 stories of the "Sonic 30th anniversary comic" from IDW (the same comic book that has the story "Sonic Learns to Drive" mentioned in the video), set in the classic era, Eggman is sleeping with his purple pajamas from the 90s short "Sonic Man of the Year" that was later reused in "Sonic Mania Adventures", but although he is using the purple one, and not the red one with white dots, in a panel, while Eggman is in front of his closet with its doors open, you can see in-beetween various copies of his main classic outfit, the classic red pajamas with white dots And, if you wanna count in the Special "Mega Drive" from Archie, in one of the off-panels Eggman is also seen using those pajamas
I will *NOT* tolerate the slander towards Beta Blaze. If SEGA made her playable again and gave her a special skin like Sonic and Shadow got, they should totally use that one.
@Ratscallion_exe Yeah...if SEGA/Sonic Team truly lovked in, that is. They didn't even bother to make the Terios skin run like Sonic. Or at least add skating thruster effects to his skating since there is official art of one of the Terios designs skating.
I agree, while it looks a little weird, you just need to make some small changes and it becomes perfect as a new character or transformation, there are many good examples of that in fan arts.
There’s actually an early sprite design for Tails where he has brown fur. This early sprite design for Tails was given to DICs Entertainment as reference material, which explains why Tails had brown fur in Sonic Sat Am & Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog
( 6:42 ) Amy’s first appearance was actually in 1992’s Shogakukan Sonic manga, one year before Sonic CD (1993). she had a very different design back then. She started off with brown hair and a ponytail that pointed upwards (similar to cancelled character ,Tiara Boobowski). So I guess that Shogakukan Amy could be considered her “beta” design. She would later switch to her classic CD design later on in the manga.
@SPEEDDIM2 Yeah, Agreed! Like, I don't mind the Gloves in the Final Design, but Jet Arms being ACTUAL Bird Wings is just SO Cool! And imagine him using those Wings to Drift & Soar while riding on his Hoverboard, SUCH as a Missed Opportunity there...

There's concept art for Amy you missed that is only shown on the wiki's page for her Manga counterpart, but that concept art is also for "Amy Rose" as a character in general. As she was designed by Naoto Ohshima and Kazayuki Hoshino in general, but introduced in the manga first while CD was still in development.
That's a concept character that they scrapped due to technical reasons. I mention that they made a lot of concepts at the start, which would include the rabbit character.
19:14 Bro, I really dig those shoes and the whole ring thing going on with them and the gloves. It makes me want to make a Sonic character with similar aspects.
Saying "Sonic 3D Blast being Sonic 3D Blast" and suggesting it's not a "proper 3D platformer" is a pretty modern way of looking at things. It has its problems, but isometric is a valid form of platforming, and it was well-received at the time for how much pre-rendered isometric graphics it was able to fit into a 16-bit game. However, if you wanna try an isometric Sonic game that's more about speed than a scavenger hunt, SegaSonic Arcade came out three years prior and is pretty easy to emulate today. It has the original designs for Mighty and Ray as well as prototype designs of Red and Yellow Sonic.
There was concept art of the werehog in sonic unleashed, & and there’s not only tons of concept art in sonic boom ROL there’s a whole story of its production & creation (it’s probably worth saving for another video tho)
Some additional info (long comment ahead): I think although it is fair that you didn't mention all the concepts from Sonic 1 rather than Mr. Hedgehog, just talked about how many there were, I think the rabbit could have a section for him After all, just like Boomer appeared as a background character in Sonic Learns to Drive, the rabbit/Max/Feels/Reto ALSO appeared in that comic as a background character He also later got used as a base for a cameo of Hatsune Miku, in the Modern IDW, and also in the 2023 christmas artwork they released on social media to celebrate Christmas, there is a cameo of a character named "Mika", which is literally just Max dressed as Hatsune Miku, with the story of her being a pop-star in Sonic's World In IDW she appears as an action figure, and in the christmas art she appears in a poster saying to be having a concert in collab with Hot Honey mentioned in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog (with them finally having designs rather than just mention, and they seem inspired by the Band Sonic has with his siblings in Sonic Underground and its continuity, but as bees instead of hedgehogs) And since Mika is not a relevant character, and probably will never have an explored deep background since it's just a cameo of Miku, their creator actually said you're free to headcanon her as whatever you want, as the same character as Max, as a different character, whatever you feel more like it Also important to note that, just like Terios (Max actually GAVE the inspiration for Terios to be a skin in Shadow Gens in the first place) the rabbit also appeared as a skin in Sonic Superstars, as everyone may know _____________________ Eggman's pajamas were actually references sometimes throughout the years, I've mentioned some of them in a reply of one of the comments here, like in another one of the stories in the 30th anniversry comic book from IDW "Dr. Eggman's Birthday" which is in the same comic as "Sonic Learns to Drive" in "An Eggman Carol" an official video released in Sonic's official UA-cam Channel in 2020, etc. _____________________ Amy has some concept arts, however they're from Shogakukan a manga that went from 1992-1994, considering Ohshima, and cteator of Metal Sonic, and also creator of Metal Tails and Metal Amy later in Sonic Superstars), and she appears in some concept art, and some images where it shows many characters togheter, even characters like Vector (sometimes with his initial design made by Ohshima from Sonic's band back in Sonic 1, and sometimes with his final classic design used in Knuckles' Chaotix), Mighty, Ray and other notable characters _____________________ Important thing to note is that, although Satoshi Okano didn't won the competition to redesign Sonic, that was Uekawa, Okano still worked on SA1's artwork, although many people don't know Some of SA1's artwork are done by Okano and then finished by Uekawa with his iconic line art and rendering, but many people associate all of SA1's the JP Box Art of Sonic 3D Blast, are quite different Okano also is popular for creating 2 characters like Fly the Bat, and the most known "Spider-Girl" which appears in some posters in SA1 (also referenced in the Sonic Learns to Drive comic, that comic is FILLED with references) After SA1 though, all of the artworks are made purely by Uekawa, in SA2, the Advance series, Rush, Rush Adventure, and of course the Sonic Channel art who are made by Uekawa (considering the Sonic Channel has many artists like Yui Karasuno and Tomoko Hayane) _____________________ If you look at Tangle's concept arts, you'll see that initially she was a rabbit, which extended her ears to grab things, instead of using her tail that had a hand at the end, I dunno if the tail concept came from Infinite, but the strech part, especially considering she was a rabbit, sounds familliar, like the rabbit from Sonic 1 _____________________ Anyway, some more characters I think could've/should've also been mentioned from other side games/spin-offs: Cream (which has some intersting concept art in Advance 2, some makes me think of Marine personally) Vector (which started in the unused Sonic Band, passing through multiple places like the Manga, SegaSonic Bros., until his design finally reaching Knuckles Chaotix) Maybe Charmy (which also had a different design in the manga just like Amy) And maaaaybe the IDW original characters if we're taking it outside the games to other official media that is supervised by Sonic Team/part of the "main continuity" _____________________ As for my personal opinion on all these concepts, while I do like most of the concept arts for these characters, and I think it's neat seeing how they started with concepts so widely different, until they slowly start getting more and more details that get more specific and stays for the next concepts until they end on the final designs, even if there's a design where I don't like I still think it's neat that it exists While, I also like most of these designs, and wouldn't mind seeing them return in some shape or form like Max or Terios, I love how they look at the end the most, one of my friends said once "I love how they start in so many crazy directions and complex designs and then it ends up simplifying it, making it look more like a Sonic character" lol
Great video! Btw the concept of Silver's quills 'flattening' is somewhat used in official games. If my memory serves me right, there is a mission in sonic rivals 2 where Silver is essentially drained of his powers and Espio has to run around and collect rings for him to recharge his powers. And one of the sprites for Silver during this conversation does depict him with quills kinda being droopy
I often think about how these games only have 1-3 years of production time and on top of everything else they have to come up with such outstanding iconic designs as the ones we have today. It's so inspiring
@@GDubA Thats probably because of the less developed looking style on her, see any fanart of her in other styles and she instantly pops off. Plus, you can't be speaking on her looking weird considering you glazed Infinite lmfao

Great job, dude! These were really interesting to see! Can we please get a reference to Pajama Robotnik in the next 2D Sonic game, SEGA? It needs to happen.
23:30 how is there nothing in unleashed? the game itself had concept art as collectibles. you can see them in professor pickles's lab if you bought the bookshelf
16:30 To be fair she is the *guardian of* Sol emeralds and even shown in the comics to keep them on herself in case of end-of-the-world shenanigans instead of waiting for the last second to go collect them like Sonic does. Blaze do have the same habits as Knuckles who always wants to be near the master emerald, except the Sols are portable enough for it to be a non-problem for her. Silver do have the "overly cautious / not trusting" yet gullible part of Knuckles, but is fast and can go Super like Sonic. They're both Sonic&Knuckles "combined" counterparts, just their aspects shifted around. The lack of a 3rd character can also imply their honest friendship is Tail's part of the original trio dynamic replacing the rivalry.
It’s great seeing a channel with less than 10K subs getting over 25K views in a couple of days! I’m gonna go ahead and subscribe! Can’t wait for more. Also every second channel I’ve been seeing has been saying 2025 is going to go crazy LoL!
That’s a scrapped character entirely. I regret not mentioning it directly but it’s included with the lots of other character ideas I mention at the start
Actually wanted to get in those Beta Designs myself cause i am always interested in Beta stuff, great Video for that my boy :D Also your Video editing is clean af
Nice run through! It’s crazy how many designs there have been. We need pajama eggman to resurface Just a friendly fyi, there’s a verbal tick where you add in “I”ll be/I gotta be honest” a lot. Not a huge deal, but it does get distracting
I wonder if Mimic's (from the IDW Sonic comics) design was infleunced at all by this Infinite design. 24:57 They're kind of similar with the purplish color body, dark color ripped cloak and bandages, and Mimic' feet (grippers? tentacles?) are kind of triangular like the shoes here. Maybe it's just coincidence though.
blatant erasure of black doom concept art :sob: if you're curious, he had a few designs - one with three tendrils off the back sorta like ponytails and only a singular eye, another from a cutscene storyboard(?) and also a page of miscellaneous concept art, both of which where he looked far more like he was made of shadows - one of them giving him one singular eye, while the other gave him three pupil-less eyes and a mouth, the first one also having concepts for the black warrior and black flier(or black bull, not sure which due to the body design), but both of them give him the same ornate cloak that doom usually has, they could've been really cool to go over imo also, you missed out on concept art of terios with a silly fringe - considering this video feels kinda heavy in comedy, you could've probably used that, personally not a big fan of the focus on comedy but i understand that its for entertainment - but it ends up feeling like the video's focusing more on saying a funny haha than really thinking about the design choices - half of e-102 gamma's unique designs were just "wow, he looks like this!" or "wow, he looks dumb!" which feels really reductive when his concepts are so damn interesting, although that gets better over the video's runtime i think otherwise, pretty cool video, not the fondest of it but i don't regret my time watching it
Something that has always struck me as odd about silver's beta designs is that minks dont really have spikes, they're weasel relatives so why so many spikes?
Bro you sound exactly like game apologize thought I was watching one of his videos for a second there and yes that is a compliments this is good content do you have nothing to worry about
Ngl here. Boomer the Turtle was a character design I saw and changed to make a sidekick for my sonic oc (note I made all of this stuff after I played forces which has a cool custom character creator). Kinda funny. I did tweak it to make him look a bit cuter and had it so he had like a jetpack shell because his shell gets broken at some point. But yeah.
5:26 I think the blue shoes fits better in my opinion. Orange + blue or yellow + blue. I did trie make a charecter of how it would look like (it’s a not a sonic fan oc) if he wore blue gloves
Each of them are slowly becoming canon. I already believe that Terios is Shadow’s forgotten self and that Shadow can’t go back to that life because of Black Doom and Gerald Robotnik using the Chaos Emeralds. Rabbit is also canon and I think he is also a tragic character like Terios. But he has been the voice needed to get people from danger that was heading to a planet that Sonic and Shadow were not born in.
@@GDubA SEGA has plans that say otherwise. We haven't even gotten to the origin stories of each and every character and there are still a lot of characters to be put in the games as there is not a lot of them in the Sonic game universe. "Everything Sonic is canon" is all that I need to see from SEGA and Sonic itself.
@ You're a fan. That's not canon. SEGA is SEGA. That is canon. Sonic is SEGA. That is, also, canon. If Sonic is SEGA is canon that SEGA is Sonic maxing, then Sonic is maxing is SEGA canon. Everything Sonic that is canon is SEGA.

I think you might've forgot about Cream's concept art-
3:52 i love the little kiwi guy here…
16:30 To be fair she is the *guardian of* Sol emeralds and even shown in the comics to keep them on herself in case of end-of-the-world shenanigans instead of waiting for the last second to go collect them like Sonic does.
"She looks nothing like a government spy." She STILL doesn't, I legit forgot she is.
also kinda true 😭
It’s great seeing a channel with less than 10K subs getting over 25K views in a couple of days! I’m gonna go ahead and subscribe! Can’t wait for more. Also every second channel I’ve been seeing has been saying 2025 is going to go crazy LoL!
Thank you very much!
Was there any cream the rabbit concept art from sonic advance 2?
I know that there's some concept art of her as a chipmunk and other species somewhere
I actually like the bull version of infinite. Maybe not the best design for a final bad guy but it would llok good on a minor villain.
Where's the concept art of Sonic where he was a rabbit? Feels the Rabbit as fans call him
That’s a scrapped character entirely. I regret not mentioning it directly but it’s included with the lots of other character ideas I mention at the start
Actually wanted to get in those Beta Designs myself cause i am always interested in Beta stuff, great Video for that my boy :D
Also your Video editing is clean af
The Werehog had some pretty cool concept art, not sure why you skipped it
7:24 they're not pads, the gloves seem to be a reflective black material like latex or more likely leather
Interesting you didn’t look at any of the werehog’s concept art
You cooked with this video!
Thank you!
@ Np
my man just skipped Feels the rabbit, one of sonic's beta designs
what reslly grabs me is 16:35 that design looks similar to the IDW Sonic comic with Surge with ghe pants. so crazy.
Nice run through! It’s crazy how many designs there have been.
We need pajama eggman to resurface
Just a friendly fyi, there’s a verbal tick where you add in “I”ll be/I gotta be honest” a lot. Not a huge deal, but it does get distracting
10:30 You know im not surprised that Big is based on My Neighbor Totoro. The whole pose is based on a movie frame from Totoro in that drawing.
I wonder if Mimic's (from the IDW Sonic comics) design was infleunced at all by this Infinite design. 24:57
They're kind of similar with the purplish color body, dark color ripped cloak and bandages, and Mimic' feet (grippers? tentacles?) are kind of triangular like the shoes here. Maybe it's just coincidence though.
So, was skipping Cream intentional?
Good video but where's creams concept art as a person who used it for a character im kinda sad not to see it
28:11 It's kind of reminding me of transparent pngs? Which kind of fits with him tbh
blatant erasure of black doom concept art :sob:
if you're curious, he had a few designs - one with three tendrils off the back sorta like ponytails and only a singular eye, another from a cutscene storyboard(?) and also a page of miscellaneous concept art, both of which where he looked far more like he was made of shadows - one of them giving him one singular eye, while the other gave him three pupil-less eyes and a mouth, the first one also having concepts for the black warrior and black flier(or black bull, not sure which due to the body design), but both of them give him the same ornate cloak that doom usually has, they could've been really cool to go over imo
also, you missed out on concept art of terios with a silly fringe - considering this video feels kinda heavy in comedy, you could've probably used that, personally not a big fan of the focus on comedy but i understand that its for entertainment - but it ends up feeling like the video's focusing more on saying a funny haha than really thinking about the design choices - half of e-102 gamma's unique designs were just "wow, he looks like this!" or "wow, he looks dumb!" which feels really reductive when his concepts are so damn interesting, although that gets better over the video's runtime i think
otherwise, pretty cool video, not the fondest of it but i don't regret my time watching it
I feel like if they kept the bunny they wouldn’t be competing against Mario instead of bugs bunny
Eh. Any mascot character SEGA was making at the time was to compete with Nintendo, so even if it wasn't Mario, it would be another Nintendo franchise.
You forgot about creams beta design and also Amy had a design in the manga before her original classic design
Some of those beta Silver designs go hard sf.
9:33 might be a reference to dr robotnik in the sonic cartoons and archie, where he has a robot arm.
Terios the Hedgehog Supremacy
Vince the Mink Supremacy
Dark-flame Supremacy
Cloaked Phantom Supremacy
I always love character designs that follow
20:40 storm is literally doing the goku prowler meme LMAOOOO
2:11 im pretty sure his shoes just werent colored in yet.
Something that has always struck me as odd about silver's beta designs is that minks dont really have spikes, they're weasel relatives so why so many spikes?
7:23 pretty sure this is just shading. The black is the colour, and the 'white' is the highlights. Maybe its meant to be leather or something.
14:15 honestly this with the final shadow gloves and shoes would go hard
6:56 is probably the inspiration for the 06 eggman design
7:52 Sonic Galactic would like to have a Word with you...
23:00
Oh wow, he look pretty cool, I wish they kept this design-
"What is this?"
Aw...
Just like Sonic fandom, Cream got let out of the spotlight
Amy is unchanged because she debuted in a manga. Her unused concepts would be in the material of THAT.
You know it would be cool if terios or his design was reused for like a villain, maybe make terios like the soul dimensions version of shadow
just gonna gloss over unleashed? come on
werehog sonic actually had some beta designs that i thought were cool
16:40 this is so off topic and i’m sorry but gdub calling the echinda tribe “the knuckles clan” hurt me so much 😭
Man I’m just going off the sonic wiki sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Knuckles_Clan
@ well they’re WRONG then 😤 (/j idrc)
@@arbitrary_dumpster-fire lmfao
Bro you sound exactly like game apologize thought I was watching one of his videos for a second there and yes that is a compliments this is good content do you have nothing to worry about
fire lmao
10:57 E-102 Gamma’s first design kind of makes him look like Eggman’s main goons from Sonic X
I thought Sonic's shoes were left uncolored in the beta drawing, not meant to be white.
24:14 bottom right looks like Professor Cluckins from Sonic Boom with the hat of his friend lmao
But yeah.
I love the concept art for Blaze especially the black with red and cyan, I kinda prefer it over Burning Blaze.
5:26 I think the blue shoes fits better in my opinion. Orange + blue or yellow + blue. I did trie make a charecter of how it would look like (it’s a not a sonic fan oc) if he wore blue gloves
(For the Mr. Needlemouse art.) It's because the artist didn't color the shoes in.
Gladly subscribed! Jesus loves ya man, keep the awesome videos coming! :D
Thank you so much!
Where’s Sonic’s Original Concept Design? The Rabbit one?
Each of them are slowly becoming canon. I already believe that Terios is Shadow’s forgotten self and that Shadow can’t go back to that life because of Black Doom and Gerald Robotnik using the Chaos Emeralds.
Rabbit is also canon and I think he is also a tragic character like Terios. But he has been the voice needed to get people from danger that was heading to a planet that Sonic and Shadow were not born in.
Those character are just skins they aren't cannon lol
@@GDubA SEGA has plans that say otherwise. We haven't even gotten to the origin stories of each and every character and there are still a lot of characters to be put in the games as there is not a lot of them in the Sonic game universe.
"Everything Sonic is canon" is all that I need to see from SEGA and Sonic itself.
@@callibor3119 everything isn't cannon bruh what are we trying to cook here
@ You're a fan. That's not canon. SEGA is SEGA. That is canon. Sonic is SEGA. That is, also, canon.
If Sonic is SEGA is canon that SEGA is Sonic maxing, then Sonic is maxing is SEGA canon.
Everything Sonic that is canon is SEGA.
@ There is no "not canon" to SEGA's creations.
