  • If you want to ride a motorcycle without dying, you need to have functioning brakes. But I guess if you do want to die while riding a motorcycle, you probably still need functioning brakes to maneuver out of your house/neighborhood and make your way down to the highway to gain the necessary speed to do so. I guess either way, make sure you have good brakes.

    I bought a 86 GSX-R1100 back in 99 (when they were cheap as chips) and it had a tooth knocked off the starter clutch gear, I replaced the gear and went looking for the tooth. I took the sump off looking for it and nothing. Told myself "the previous owner must of got it out" 10 years later i had the engine out for some new O rings in the oil return pipes and took the sump off again, and found the tooth sitting on a little "shelf" made by the casting of the cases. It had been hanging out it there the whole time, if it had got in the gear box it would have lunched the engine. :-)

    Also, forgive me if someone has already said this before, but I'd like to imagine that this restoration series is the sequel to Top Gun in an alternate universe where Maverick dies and Goose (Ron) lives on. Carbon buildup can raise the compression. Once you start riding it, a few "Italian Tune-Ups" and maybe some Top Tier fuel (look it up) or a Techron additive, will gradually decarbonize them, , plus the rings and the intake valves. My advice, ride it a lot for a few months... with plenty of the aforementioned Italian Tune-Ups, and check again.

    This bike looks like it has seen some serious racetrack time… the ground down parts on the left side, the exhaust moved to the right side.. body parts missing.. looks like someone laid it down while racing and decided to park it “for awhile”… My brother did the same thing to his after skidding it out on the track back in the mid 90’s.

    Ron, if nothing gets broke or damaged, then nothing is being done. I'm not saying you need to break stuff to show progress, what I'm saying is there is always a chance for something to go wrong when your working on it. Look it just makes you focus and think of how to fix it and not screw it up the next time when your in that same predicament. Looking good so far on your project!

    I ran into the EXACT SAME ISSUE you had with your rear brake with the front brake on my 2007 Z1000 I picked up as a project a few weeks ago. I bought a rebuild kit and a new reservoir (the old one had broken and allowed water to get in). Turns out, the piston seized in the bore and no amount of Kroil would free it up. Kawasaki sells all parts for the master cylinder individually EXCEPT the fucking body, so I bought a used unit.
    It’s sitting on my workbench as we speak and will be rebuilt as soon as I’m done with your video and my cup of coffee :)

      I got told by a parts guy at my local Kawasaki shop that Kawasaki have a 10 year rolling obsolescence, after a model is 10 yrs old they stop making parts for it. Doesn't mean parts aren't available because of NOS and pattern parts, but it makes it difficult when you need to buy something like what you were after new. Or in my case, parts for a 85 KR250 tandem twin 2 stroke. :-)

    • @sanyey8405
      @sanyey8405 2 роки тому

      Of course there's always the option of screwing a grease nipple in the bleed nipples bore and pumping the piston out with grease instead of air.. good old trick that literally ALWAYS works.

    i have been enjoying this series.
    last year i did this whole episode on a 1987 honda magna vf750c. (half the series too)
    bike had no rear wheel and all brake/clutch pieces apart.
    so i rebuilt the whole systems with new seals, one of the brake lines were blocked so i freed it up.
    rebuilt the front forks. and had to assemble the rear brake drum/diff unit. was missing an axel shaft and some spaces. got iy all running and working, very happy.
    i am not even i bike person. i don't know how to ride but was thinking about learning.
    shame you are not doing more of a resto and keeping it because it looks like a cool bike. probs worth some coin too.
