I worked in a record store as a teenager in Winter Haven. His high school friends, girlfriend, and bandmates would come in occasionally. Winter Haven is home to many musicians. Jim Stafford, Lobo, Grinderswitch to name a few. .
WOW! I can't believe you were able to get in to see his house, his little private room and even his shower! How nice of those folks to allow that. Great vid!
Both of your Gram Parson videos are now in my top favorite Jordan videos...it's almost like Gram opened some doors for you--meeting the daughter of his 1st wife--then being able to see his apartment at the home in Winter Haven. That unplanned access wasn't just coincidental IMO. 😄
Good one Jordan!! I live just down the road from there in Bartow, Fl. Big fan of Gram and The Flying Burrito Brothers. A friend and I went to Derry Down about a year ago and the owners were there getting ready for an event and let us go inside. You DEFINITELY need to go see the inside. It has the original exposed rafters and beams and almost smells like 1960s, in a GOOD way!!
Awesomeness. My dad went to school with him in Winter Haven (Blue Devils). He knew Jim Stafford, and we vacationed withJim's cousin Bobby Stafford back in the day.
Jim Stafford is from Winter Haven. He’s a country singer who did parody songs like Ray Stevens. Spiders and Snakes is one of his big hits in the 70’s. He’s a really funny fellow. He retired a couple of years ago from Branson Missouri and moved back to Winter Haven. Great video on Gram.
Jim Stafford .... one of my all time favorite musicians ... Saw him back in early 70's at Panhandle State College during his first big hits on the radio. Just Jim, and a bass pedal played with his left foot and a tambourine stomp type tool with his right ... I was thoroughly impressed with his musicianship... and the rest is history .. as they say
His first band was not the Shilos. It was the Pacers, then the Legends, which I was a part of along with Jim Stafford and Kent Lavoie. Yes, he had his own room, not really an apartment, and I spent many nights there hanging out. But the go-kart was only in the picture in 1959-60 when he was in the eighth grade. In fact, that's me in the photo you're showing. He got five bucks a week for cleaning the pool. And Lobo was not a band. It was the name Kent used as his stage name.
Thank you Jim for all you do to provide an accurate account of Gram Parsons' younger life. I've been impressed by what a great group of people (most) of his friends were. Friends not only for his life but for the many years that followed.
Absolutely awesome of the homeowners that allowed you inside to vlog the house. That was extremely nice of them. If they are reading this,, thank you very much!
My all time favorite artist from the era!! So many things to say, so little time!! Emmylou has kept so much of Team's persona alive and relevant. She deserves a huge shout out for that alone. Her song, " Boulder to Birmingham, " captures the essence of their time together!! Thx for this blog & to the home owners for sharing that moment in time!!
Love your Vlogs! Cool that you checked out Gram's home. I live in Tampa and there is actually a B&B/Hostel here named after him called "Gram's Place". I was friends with Mark Holland who was the original owner who sadly passed away over a decade ago. "Grams Place' was originally intended to be a music related venue that actually had small concerts (Its just an old house that he converted )but Mark wanted it to be a little mecca for musicians and artists of all kinds. It's still open and Mark's brother runs it, but sadly I think they went away from the music theme. P.S. My Cousin Suzanne grew up in Winter Haven and actually went to school with Gram!! - I think he was older than her but she told me he was soo handsome and all the girls had crushes on him and one of her friends actually dated him!! How cool is that!! :)
I was wondering if you were going to vlog in Winter Haven and you didn't disappoint😃 I'm a big Gram fan too... Shame about the Desert Inn, looked like a really cool place, I hope someone rescues the historical artifacts from there. Grams' famous white suit with the red cross on the back is on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Thanks again Jordan☺💝🎆
In the ominous Gimme Shelter Documentary Gram Parsons & The Flying Burrito Brothers convey the joy of music that was supposed to rule the day. The Hells Angels ruined the day.
WoW that was awesome, I wish there were more places like the Derry Down for younger performers. I feel that's much needed in our culture. His parents were cool encouraging his dreams, and giving him a cool space. He was gone too soon, gonna re-watch Joshua Tree again after seeing this! Thanks for another great vlog.
There's an excellent documentary that was done on the life of Graham Parson. It's called Graham Parsons: Fallen Angel. The name of the director is Gandul Hennig..It covers everything from his life. Keith Richard's is even interviewed. It's absolutly worth watching.
Really cool to get a feel for Gram. I always wanted to know more about him and Emmy. I think they were in love, but x wives want to keep it all appropriate for the public.
i just wandered upon ur blog here, im soo glad i did! i used to live down there in Clearwater Bch & also in Ft. Lauderdale, as well. I used to drive up to Winter Haven to catch the bus to come home to Philly. But anyway, I love Gram Parsons, I never knew he lived there. He is a legend of classic rock! Awesome little walk down memory lane, thank you. You really made my day with this. This is something I totally would do, right up my alley.
Fascinating! Isnt that interesting that Gram knew he was not going to be here that long?! Very sweet of that family to let you check out where he lived!! These Florida vlogs are totally rad!!
Wow...you got lucky. Years ago, the previous owners of the home gave me a much different reception. If you go to Lego land, you can see his grandfather’s mansion where Gram spent much of his time. I’m a massive fan of Gram Parsons - named my oldest son after him.
Hey Jordan. Just started following your channel. If you ever get to Waycross Georgia Look up Hickory Wind Music Store. The owner says he grew up with Gram and says Gram spent some child hood years in Waycross? Don't know much about Gram BUT the music store owner WAS ON AND ON AND ON about Gram And what all he Knew about him. This guy may give you more in-sight on Grams early life and Family History. Also Ronnie Van Zants wife Judy is from Waycross and the music store owner told me where Ronnie and Judy got married. Anyway's Peace Jordan
Thank you Jordan. A facinating video on Gram. A lot of in depth info on him. The homeowners were so gracious to let you in for an impromptu tour. How kind of them. Great video Jordan. Thank you. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎵
Wow! Sad to see the Desert Inn in such devastating condition. But great to see Gram Parsons' childhood home. Thanks to the lovely people that showed you around. The signatures in the driveway were awesome! VERY cool that the place is still pretty much the same as it was when Gram lived there.
Back in the 70's I took a train 🚂 to Disney World from Penn Station NYC. 24 hours insane. We wound up hitting a car in Winter Haven. People jumped off the train to go to the liquor store. Oh New Yorkers 😂🤣
I was gonna go visit Gram Parsons grave in Metairie, LA last week but then I can car trouble and couldn't make it. I've been meaning to get over there for so long.
Jordan you do it again I am fascinated by Gram his music is really good if not for you I would nt even know him ! Only you can get in and actually see his room and house !! Amazing historical vlog !!!
Great vlog Jordan! I am a huge Gram fan and I really enjoyed and appreciate your work on this one! Over the years I have became great friends with Lloyd Green and JayDee Maness who were the steel players on Sweethearts of the Rodeo album. 2 years ago in Dallas, I got to see them perform the entire album instrumentally and it was amazing! Thanks again Jordan!
Wow Indeed!! THAT was AWESOMENESS!! How cool of that couple to graciously allow you to go in!! Great job!! Second only to when you got into Ike and Tina's house!! Nice job!
I just watched a Derry Downs performance by Mary Gauthier " Mercy Now " Thanks Jordan . Hope you visit again and see some music. Mary is really good . Singer, Harmonica, and picker
So kind of the homeowners to let you come in and film there! I wonder if the big house where his grandparents lived is still there? I know the family eventually lost their money.
Hi Jordan, such a shame about the Desert Inn. It looks a lovely peaceful area where he lived. How very kind of that lovely couple to let you go in their property. WOW, what a very unusual send off for Gram. Great vlog Jordan.
Thank you homeowners! And thank you for showing that googie signage! I love that stuff. I think I've stayed at that Joshua tree inn. I'll have to go and look at that vlog and see.
The home owners, that was super nice they allowed that. Thanks go out to them. The Derry Down, I can picture the period style of clothes, the sounds and the smells, you almost transported me there.
I knew you would get in and see Gram's room 😁 Nice people for sure. Random factoid: When Gram played at Altamont after the gig he spent the evening trying to hook up with Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and Papas. Can't say I blame him. Not sure if he was successful but he got on the helicopter with her.
Growing up in Palm desert I'd heard of the concert at the Palm Springs Drive in where this band the Flying Burrito Brother's played. It was said they created such a stir there and almost arrested because they were just drugged up buttheads. Gram had the Nudie suit too? Cool.. Lobo the band.. he was a cool talent and the wild horses song of the rolling stones was one of my favorite songs. Derry Downs .. cool
Very cool !!😎 Having grown up and lived here in this area it is just insane and shameful that I didn't know of any of this history before, but thanks for the lesson it is really great to learn about!! You were so close by and even closer with the My Girl vlog, maybe can catch up with you next time you come to Derry Downs that would be cool! Thanks again 😃
His music really grabs some people. If you're interested Love Hurts with Emmylou Harris, Dark End of the Street with the Flying Burrito Brothers, and Hickory Wind with The Byrds are fantastic.
The vlog was good it nice of the homeowner to let you see the signers the apartment that he had when he was 12 that had to be cool to have your apartment when you are 12
Amazing super awesome video 👌 my friend I love gram parsons he was a very good singer. May God bless his soul rest in peace gram parsons...I remember watching the vlog on the joshua tree it was so awesome..it's really sad thing his body was burnt like that but I guess that's what he wants. So shame about his grave being flooded with water.

Another great Graham Parsons video, the Joshua Tree was cool this one is awesome to, your so close to Adams House now I know your going to hang with the Woo tell him Vince said hey and y’all both are cool dudes
Gram Parsons.....what a great musician. another one lost to drugs though......some people's stars blaze brightly but all too briefly. Gram, Layne, Kurt, Chris.....and many others.
Very nice of the owners to show you around Gram Parson’s. Nice looking house. I believe that God let’s some people know that they’re only here on earth a short time. Gram had plenty of ups and downs in his life and not just with music. Too bad what was left of him had to go to New Orleans instead of where he grew up. He will never be forgotten. Thank you, Jordan for doing this vlog on Gram. Gone too soon. God keep blessing you as you are such a blessing to others.
They were very friendly! In fact, they said how they found out it was gram's house was one day the lady who lived there was waiting for a ride from her husband I believe she said, and got to talking to a woman there and the lady somehow asked whereabouts she lived. And when she said the street name, the lady said "gram parsons lived on that road at ____ address. The homeowner pulled out her id and showed the lady that was her address, and the lady said "ill give you a ride home just to see gram's house" the homeowners said they became fans of gram as they learned the history of their house..
shout out to the hospitable homeowners
For real!

Another terrific Vlog. It was very kind of the family to let us see inside.

Gram was never married to Nancy Ross. She just passed away on Feb. 14th, 2023. She is Polly's mom.
