  • I purchased this 1962 Tonka Camper Pickup Truck from eBay April of 2020. Overall it was in great shape with only some missing paint and a few dings. Missing the back door and obviously well played with. Made for an excellent restoration.

Something about this build really struck home. My grandfather had a 1967 Dodge D100 that was almost the identical colour. I grew up in that pickup as I was born in 1968. Bravo.

I don't think Tonka toys ever used lead paint. If they had, the very stringent toy safety laws here in the UK, would have prevented their importation. I'm glad of that, as they were one of THE big toys of the 1960's and 70's. My brother and I had quite a few. Our dad was a civil engineer, and liked us playing with toy bulldozers, back actors, and face shovels. 👍👍👍

Chip, I don't know if you would be interested, but you could contact the Minnesota Historical Society and ask them if they have any old photos of the factory where they were produced. You might even spot some of the toys you've restored in some of the photos! Minnesota Historical Society is very complete and would be glad to help you.
