Sorry to hear about your experience. As a former mechanic I try to tell people to stay away from Kia/Hyundai products but unfortunately most don’t listen. Kia/Hyundai does a fantastic at luring people in with striking looking, heavily optioned, low priced vehicles with nice interiors. Some may ask how they can produce such nice vehicles at such great prices. Well….they cut corners where it actually matters. Their drivetrains are completely disposable and are not rebuildable. (Not saying it’s impossible but due to the disposable nature of their design it’s not even close to reasonable to rebuild one of those engines.) A good friend of mine works parts at a local Kia/Hyundai dealership and the amount of engines they replace a day is insane. And sadly enough I’ve seen to many Hyundai owners end up deeply upside down in their car loans. It’s typical to see a engine fail right as the car’s warranty expires and the repairs end up costing close to what the car is valued at, meanwhile the owner still also owes the bank a equal amount to the car’s current value. Kia/Hyundai are predatory brands.

Everything you said completely holds up they are so nice honestly when they’re working but they have so many major issues such as those damn engines

8:40 I worked at jiffy lube for a while. Every Hyundai/Kia we had come through had deep black oil, it looked like diesel oil! No joke every single one was like that. They have notoriously bad piston rings and the engines are only expected to last between 100k-130k miles. Some of the worst cars you can buy. And if you've looked at used car prices, almost all the reasonably priced ones are Hyundai kias over 100k. You'd spend $15k on it and it would be in a junkyard in 2 years.

Why would you do oil changes at a dealer. They do cheap oil and every 10k miles that is horrible on your engine. You have to change your oil every 3-4K on any car and your engine will be super clean. Why wouldn’t you invest in your engine you payed so much for it. I have a 535i with 120k miles and recently opened the engine for service and it was clean as a whistle

I agree about changing the oil yourself. Though most dealerships follow the recommended maintenance guide provided by the manufacturer. Not whatever you're saying lol.

My truck (nissan titan) cost almost 100 in oil and filter not counting the work, Dealer charges 110 for the hole service and they wash my truck.
On small cars it might be cheaper to diy but it varies. You never know until you do the math.

I’d normally agree with you. However, as the video brings up, the dealers will try almost anything to avoid following through with a warranty claim. Having a proper paper tail showing you have had the vehicle serviced at the dealership at the proper intervals will at least help your case incase something catastrophic where to happen with the engine while under warranty. This doesn’t mean however that you can’t service the car yourself more regularly. 10k between oil changes is still crazy to me, I don’t care how far we’ve come in oiling technology because it’s clear it’s not working. 5k on good quality synthetic oil is still the max for me. I still do 3k interval oil changes on the vehicles I really care for and 4K on vehicles I consider are more of a “beater.”

@@BlGPLB there this UA-cam prof mechanic car care nut or something works only ok Toyotas has 1M followers he’s likes bro you are crazy if you are waiting 10k miles even if it’s manufacturer recommended. At that point the oil starts getting gunky and stays on the valve stems leans on the rings damages your engine

Exactly the same issues with my old certified used 2018 Santa Fe
When it would ping I used a higher octane gas
    It clears up the pinging
Certainly didn't help the excess oil consumption
Trade it in while you can
    I did
I also got the whole oil consumption test fiasco
    It's not worth the headache
    Just trade it in!

Our Hyundai just decided it didn’t want to turn one day when we were backing up. Steering just didn’t work. Turned it off and back on and it worked again. Forgot all about it as a one off thing until I saw people talking about it happening a lot in their Santa Fe. Mentioned it to my wife who drives it more than me and she said oh yeah that happens sometimes…wtf. The ford we have is giving us issues throwing a light and the stealership “couldn’t figure out what it was” from the time we bought it at 0 miles until we were outside the warranty period and suddenly it was a 600 dollar fix. Paid it and it didn’t work same issue still happening. Does anyone make a decent product anymore?

Why’d you go to the dealership to fix the car? I don’t trust them for anything more than an oil change
(Not even that, because it turns out they’ve been overfilling my engine oil. Then they screwed up my camber when I took it in for an alignment)

    • @AIGeneratedUser
      @AIGeneratedUser 3 місяці тому

@@RealJaybeeMusic it’s possible their warranty or service agreement required dealership repairs/maintenance but I wouldn’t be in that situation as I would never touch a Kia/Hyundai product lol. Service advisers at dealerships make more when they sell you services and even have quotas they are pushed to reach.

      Subaru
Toyota owns part of Subaru but Subarus are made much better and are much safer. Subaru Eyesight beats every other car brand in safety. Newest Subarus can even emergency auto steer like Teslas. Eyesight is amazing unlike Teslas. Subarus are also beasts at offroading with X Mode. Even a 2008 Subaru was making a joke out of other cars on a hill. Look the video up on UA-cam lol
Japan has high standards and it translates into the US market too. Team Subaru.

Really? I have a 2018 Sonata Limited, 76,000 miles…I’ve had a pleasant experience, 0 issues. However, you have to understand, this engine was under the recall so. Please don’t give up on Hyundai. Try the 2024 Sonata with the 2.5

As a Hyundai Tech that left the industry after finishing my Engineering degree we were screwed over by the factory but the customer was always covered. So I am surprised that this is the hoop jumping that they started making clients jump. We always did 3 checks so every 1k we add oil and document the consumption and calculate. Once the engine is considered to drink oil it should be summitted for warranty if its within 100k or 10years. But its been 3 years since I have worked on them professionally and to be honest they have become more strict on warranties. BTW the dealer seems to be a bit too deep into selling you on stuff before they need to warranty the repair. Also the oil should be replaced after the 3rd oil check you drain the oil and put fresh oil and filter. Basically the dealers sound like they have been punting clients that are in warranty due to the fact that Hyundai has been underpaying the techs and dealers. Its a shame because they are decent cars and I have owned 4 so far in my family and never had these issues. But I am in the minority and majority of clients have the same problem that you are describing. I feel terrible for the clients that have trusted the brand and gotten shafted big time when it comes time to pay the warranty out.

My old Kia Soul had this same issue. I used to buy quarts of oil every month and stash it in the boot. I finally got a Ford and junked that dumb Kia.
What I’m curious to know is whether the Hyundai/Kia EVs have the same QA issues or if they’re good. Because they offer some really nice Tesla alternatives.

Woooow, dude. This is unforgivable, in my opinion. Making a product that breaks? That's expected. Anything else would require perfection in engineering and assembly, and that's just not realistic. I can't fault a car company for making a car that breaks. Refusing to stand by it, though? That's not just disrespectful to your paying customers (aka your lifeblood), it violates US law around warranties. This is exactly why we have those laws. If it were me, I would file at least a small-claims court suit for the maximum allowable amount citing bad faith practices by the dealership. Another reason not to buy Hyundais new...

If everything you said is true and you have documentation of your oil change receipts, hopefully itemized to show the filter replacement or lack thereof it could be worth your time to get legal consultation. There may be a document that you signed that waived your right to sue Hyundai or the dealership over lemon law, however I don’t believe that covers negligent oil changes.

You can also call Hyundai’a corporate number to verify what you were told by your service advisor. Hyundai handles all of the warranty work. The dealer should be happy to take the warranty work as they get paid regardless and don’t have to worry about someone not being able to afford the replacement engine. But there are some shady crooks working at some of these places that would be more than happy to make you pay more than what the warranty will pay out, either in the service center or the finance department. The Hyundai corporate people will probably be nicer to you over the phone as they are being recorded.

Yeah honestly buying their 4cylc engines are the worst. Its sad but they have this amazing warranty because the 4 cycles they have are hot garbage. Transmissions from them are okay and the V6 they have are great. If you want to buy another Hyundai product in the future get something that has the V6, you won't have this experience.

Hyundai/Kia are shit. On paper some of their cars are ok for the price, with the warranty, but their small engines are shit and their service is shit. Their V6s were mostly ok but the worst part is having to deal with a Hyundai/Kia dealership and that's true regardless of the engine.
Their strategy with bad engines is deny deny deny, there had to be class action lawsuits for them to admit they have issues.
I got rid of my 2016 Kia, which was part of a recall for engines self-destructing, because my local dealership is dogshit, taking 2 weeks just to check an engine code on a car that can't be driven (limp mode), then just clearing the code and giving me the runaround. Just waiting out the clock until the warranty expires I imagine.
