If any of you are looking for another series like this one, here's a couple that we've started since finishing up the Armored Core games: A First Timer's Journey Into Ace Combat: ua-cam.com/play/PL48pV5KFb3gbg9FnKHa7gYIApV5FemXSg.html A First Timer's Journey Into Metal Gear: ua-cam.com/play/PL48pV5KFb3gZhObUW0G_j7sBQYBPZpr6X.html
yknow honestly with last raven i personally didn't have issue with that long pulverizer encounter, once i went through it a second time from the start i was able to power through it. could get through everything but the ac with some peaking and my build was good enough to slay that ac. zinaida on the other hand is really really friggin hard. unlimited energy on a build tailor made to abuse the hell out of it, with as much mobility and firepower as that entails. and more health than normal. i had to swap to a build tailor made to kill her and look up guides to even hear her dialogue. she will not give you breathing room.
Don't forget you're not just doing the seemingly impossible feat of beating a NEXT with a regular AC, you're beating a NEXT with a junkyard frankenstein AC stitched together with glue and tape by post-apoc nomads and is smaller then the ones in 1. Be proud.
Technically gen 1 AC are smaller to equal size of gen 5. With field objects like cars that seen in the games gen 1 AC are considered around 3.5 meters tall. 6 meters if you compare it to one of the only human you meet in project phantasm. Gen 5 by official artwork are 5-6m tall. Doesn't change the fact they are held by duct tape but it's actually surprising since gen 2,3,4 and 6 are 10-11m tall.
Gen 1 through 3 ACs are about 5m tall; NEXTs are about 10m tall, and Gen 5 ACs are about 3m tall. You're fighting the highest peak of the franchise with the deepest valley of the franchise, and you're _winning_
Actually, there were "prime" 5th gen AC's, during the Great War, the period after FA, when the League were fucking off to space. The AC's in V were shit compared to them, and the canon AC is comprised of entirely new parts made.
I'm glad you got to experience the joy and terror of fighting a NEXT in what is basically a suped-up normal, Chole. Speaking of the N-WG/IX, its name is literally NEXT-WHITE GLINT/9! As in, not only is VD's final boss a cobbled together ACFA White Glint model (2nd phase shenanigans included), it's also a reference to nine-ball. Like wise its pilot J, i believe is stated to be a clone of various pilots from the past, Joshua O'Brien included, who if you recall is the 1st white glint from AC4 and final boss of that game. And to top it all off, the final boss music is a remix of remember, the most popular osts from ACFA, most noticeably played during the 2nd playthrough alt mission Defend Line Ark, where instead of fighting WG with Otsdarva, you team up with Anatolia's Mercenary (ACFA's White Glint) against Collared's rank 1 who in turn brings Fragile with him!
Although Armored Core 6 is really good. Verdict Day still remains my Favorite AC Game. The AC Designs, The Lore and the Movement were the best for me. (AC6 is a close second with Gen 4 third) Though for the Multiplayer I believe the reason it died so quickly was during the time Verdict Day launched the PS4/XBOX One was right around the corner along with balancing issues. Although the Japanese side of Armored Core loved it I think if Verdict Day and Armored Core V were PS4 launch titles I think it would be more successful
The online for Verdict Day back when it was new was something special. Tank builds, lightweight shotgun builds, Karasawa one shot builds, builds that equipped four shields and just wanted to kick you, using the target gun and having someone equip the giga missile to ruin an entire team. On top of that there are the online only boss fights which include a rematch with final boss of AC5 and White Glint, hardcore mode which put a fun spin on a hard mode, being a mercenary for another team and doing it enough to be asked to join the Reaper Squad and ruin other players days. Heck people even do UNAC only speedruns of Verdict Day which is rather nutty to think about. Verdict Day isn't my favorite AC game but in terms of improving on the previous game it's one of the best in the series and the memories of playing it when it was new are some of the best I've had in my life. Glad the series is alive again.
In addition to my last lore comment, the fact that the final boss is a White Glint NEXT, the spirit of motherwill arms fort being present in the multiplayer, and J himself being a spliced together clone with Joshua O'Brien dna included in the batch strongly implies that the 3rd ending of ACFA "Destruction" is the canon ending for ACFA. With Strayed (the player) going on one last rampage and killing the surviving LYNX pilots who were the only ones who had a chance to stop you, your handler included who left after being disgusted with your bloodlust after destroying a cradle. After this Strayed heads off to the rest of the cradles to give them a good ol' killin' too, meaning that theres a equally strong possibility that the Towers everyones fighting for along are in fact the Cradles and the lack of NEXTS is Strayed's doing. Really makes you wonder why the Dark Raven (AC5s PC) is so revered/feared instead of a LYNX who is stated to go down as the greatest monster in human history...
@AnatoliasAce3341 i believe his bio says it, i also looked up the armored core wiki and it says he's a "Cultivator - an artificially grown soldier cloned from pilots of notable skill."
Regarding your lore speculations in the previous video, I don’t think the gen 4/NEXT tech was banned so much as it was outright *lost*. I think by the time of gen 5 people are slowly rediscovering them again, which leads to the final boss of this game.
Yes, that Is basically what happened, after the Kojima particles literally dissapear from existence and war just got More agresive the corps decided to instead of using NEXTs to fight go back to normal ACs and also because of the diference of Time (at least more than 300 years) betwen 4 and 5 almost all NEXT tecnology was destroyed and nobody cared about storing it because since Kojima particles dont exist anymore they can't build one And then when the towers appear APARENTLY (because the game dont say anything about it) the fundatiom find enought tecnology to """repair""" a NEXT and stuck some Kojima particles inside that probably we're inside the towers, anyways you know AC story Is like a puzzle so this Is just how i belive everything hapenned with the bit of info the games give
The only bad thing about Verdict Day(September 24, 2013) is that it got released two months before the release of PS4(November 15, 2013) which pretty much taken over any interest it could get. Not to mention it didn't get ported to PS4 which sentenced it to death.
Some details regarding the story: The Tale of the Dark Raven is that of ACV, and the Dark Raven is the previous player The fact that you also fight the NEXT on the Wreckage of the Motherwill also adds to the flavor The NEXT (you probably know this already) is called NWGIX/v, which stands for NEXT White Glint 9th version (there's that funny number again) Another important detail is how ACV is a retelliing of the first AC games, and make it a point about the Cyclic nature of the games' wars and "Great Destructions" The Towers are the Cradles You may have also seen the "Raid Bosses" as well, which consist of Lady in Vortex (who's one of the previous characters from 5 uploaded into it), a Suped-up Exusia fight from 5 (both versions fused into one, attacks-wise), as well as _Motherwill and a Stronger NWGIX/v._
Some interesting details to nerd people up on this one. Blue Magnolia is a descendant to Franny in 5 with Evergreen Family. She spread her wings and took inspiration for her own more free side from Rosarie as their emblem similarities might suggest. Blue Magnolia is voiced by your operator in For Answer, Serene Haze, or Ciliegio/Kasumi Sumika (AC4). In both games she confronted the player in her own AC with a flower in the emblem and theme. Her character is practically a reincarnation of FA's operator in this sense. Upon careful inspection you can find traces of arms forts and the Cradles in maps of Verdict Day. With online mode, you and a team can face the Spirit of Motherwill in Verdict Day in a less mobile state.
Bro YOU MADE IT! CONGRATULATION! YOU'RE A TRUE RAVEN! This was such a nice series of reviews for one of my favorite IP ever. I'm also amazed you got through them so quickly, I also saw you're playing the old ones to 100%, very nice! You're 100% ready for AC6 I suppose rofl
Being new to AC with Fires of Rubicon, I really didn't understand at the time the scale of power that the NEXT ACs had. Then I saw this one single fight. This. This is peak fiction imo. I'll really wanna actually give this a play and see about it after wrapping up AC VI
Personally my favorite of the lot, everyone else likes to rag on gen5 though. =_= Also tuning can actually make a huge difference for some weapons, for example in regards to range tunes certain Rifles such as kinfolk and isonokami would outrange sniper rifles that were tuned similarly. Not practical in any real way since the isonokami had horrid bullet speed and the kinfolk had horrid fire rate being an in-between rifle/Sniper-rifle in the first place but it let you fire regular rifles at 450~500 distances without the damage decay.
I dont understand how you can say ACV had almost nothing in terms of story when it had a massive story with main missions super long and designed to serve that story exclusively.
@@warlordjr.jr. Ehh honestly not quite especially once you do order and story missions side by side you will get lost in the information thats given to you by the game you will not even know order mission 1 actually takes place AFTER STORY MISSION 9 but you can play order mission 1 from the onset of the game, this is lightly rectified in VD as you unlock order missions as you unlock story missions But what really gets me is that EVERYTHING in ACV IS CALLED AN AC even clearly IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE ONE
In Verdict Day the factions in the game aren’t corporations they are just that, factions. For instance, The Evergreen Family the green-colored faction wants to get rid of the towers so that the Earth can heal while Venide, the red-colored faction wants to purge the weak and let the strongest rule. However, I lack knowledge about Sirius the blue-colored faction.
He did it! Amazing series that had me hyped leading up to ac6s release and had kept me coming back since. Thank you buddy this has been an awesome journey that’s helped me rediscover my love for this series
I manage to finish watching this video and I gotta say that you made armored core 5 and verdict day very interesting. Like it makes me want to play them which I already plan too since I want to play all the armored core games but I did finish playing armored core 1 on ps1 emulator and I skipped to armored core 6 since it came out a couple months ago. Last thing is I can't wait for the armored core 6 review because the game is a lot of fun and I need to finish it.
AC2:AA showed the comparison (nerf) between gen1 to gen2 ACs (when you fight Nine-ball). ACVD does the same but shows how much weaker (and physically smaller) gen 5 is to a Next. My head cannon is the the resurrected Next is White Glint (found in the ocean).
I do wish they would use the tight economy functions in the game more. AC6 really doesn't even make it relevant as you have so much money that it doesn't matter after awhile. I love the idea of trying to balance out your mech on a budget.
I played the series from start to finish last year like you did and was impressed by Gen 5. Maybe people didn't like it because it's slower than 4 but it's very satisfying to play and the speed does ramp up as you get better builds pieced together and you move into VD. None of these games are bad although the difficulty in a handful of places is BS.
My most favorite AC game of all time! When in doubt, tank and auto-cannons. Btw, the final boss, the Black Glint is weak against kinetic weapons. Just go in with dual rifles and a kinetic missile then wait until he using Assault Armor and he will go down easily. For 2nd phase, just glide boost constantly and keeping him in range. The rifles and missile will take care of him.
ojj yeah the issue with J is that you need to go on the defensive until he spits out the assault armor once this clicks in you know its going to be easy do not waste you ammo until then from a guy who got stuck with chapter 8 and couldnt move forward due to him fearing the old annoying system from V
The craziest part of the N-WGIX/v fight is that not only is it a NEXT, but it's the equivalent of a super NEXT with its Primal Armor. Its Primal Armor makes it become invincible to all damage, but the side effect is that it needs to be purged every so often. First time I beat this fight, my UNAC clutched it after I died, and now, after I have fought it so many times and refined my skills in the fight, run in solo with a light AC design so I can just dodge all his attacks with massive energy regen. On a side note, the fight is way harder playing on 60fps than it is 30fps. I'm pretty sure you take double damage from some attacks at 60fps, so beating it is quite the achievement.
Based on the footages here, I'm surprised how good the game still looks even compare to AC6, there seems to be a lot more different environments on each stage, they even seems grander in scale in comparison.
If you carefully look at part design, a lot of parts in V/VD were from 4/FA. Oh, the towers had underground facilities underneath them that implies all AC games were in one universe
Do you want to know something awesome? You can actually make the N-WGIX/v in ACFA, only after NG+, with the exact same parts with the exception of the X wing on the back and the weird looking cables coming out of the shoulders.
That's not just any NEXT, that's the legendary White Glint reborn, piloted by a Cultivator Clone of Joshua O'Brien from AC4. You defeated the legendary next and it's pilot reborn with junk on a tank.
This game definitely felt like a bit of a step up in terms of missions for me. Story wise I kinda put it on the same level as ACV. In terms of plot I think I prefer VD but characters are about equalish. Fighting a NEXT at the end of VD was so dope but terrifying considering now you are basically a Normal unit in that boss’ eyes. Being a White Glint copy along with the Kojima particles kicking in at phase 2 to make it a timer made it more terrifying. I wish the Reaper Squad was expanded on a bit more
13:20 I laughed so much when u talked about how saying the last fight is the hardest u have seen in the franchise would upset people because last raven exist. Hahahaha too true
Loved the video series! And I was wondering, what did you think of Mission 7-4 (especially with that supposed difficulty rating of 7)? That mission took me almost as long to conquer as it took to defeat J.
WAR IS PART OF MY EXISTENCE Playing this back when it came out I went fuckin nuts when saw the final boss and even moreso when I realized the music I was drowning out with gunfire was a Remember remix.
People who complain about not having good multiplayer in AC 6 Can blame ac 5 for the super focus into multiplayer so much it hurts the experience. verdict day could not wash the stigma of that stain away sadly
Released in a time that every AC fan knows the implausibility of trying to get new people to the franchise. (They know they are niche as fuck back then)
I honestly think Bandai is at least partially responsible for the shit multiplayer a lot of bandai games have very similarly barebones multiplayer experiences such as Ace Combat having an almost Identical system and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 also being similar
I've been watching there kind of videos since Vaaty made is retrospective 1-hour-long video that convinced me buying and playing AC 4 and 4A. I guess I'll consider buying V and VD too after watching your videos mate, very interesting and useful takes. I wish I was better at building the ACs, because I'm not getting it at all. I spent like 6 hours in 4 but did only 10 missions, but now I just went for the weapons and simulations and ignored the build; i hopes it'll last until the ending lol
Gen 4 offered a speed and power fantasy other AC games don't really have. AC4 is relatively simple compared to most other AC games, however, so if you are having issue making ACs in 4/FA, it won't be any better in V/VD. But I still prefer Gen V for its aesthetics, gameplay, levels, kicking, and wall jumping.
I think Ultimate weapons are cool. I think they were called Grind weapons under development in Gameinformer magazines. The way the HUD turns read and says warning implies that you're overloading your AC's systems as soon as you equip the weapon. I don't think any other Armored Core game does this.
No mention of Verdict Day's challenge modes? When you beat the game the first time you're able to start the campaign over with some really insane rules like penetrating hits doing double damage or repair costs going through the roof. On the subject of repairs, you can use the original "damaged" frame parts to massively reduce repair costs in exchange for low specs.
the emulator was a bitch to get working 😂 You can definitely get it to a point where it's stable on Xenia Canary, but I'm not really sure I recommend going through the headache...
Just bought it on my PS3 and played as my first AC game.a few hours in game and I'm really enjoying it although it saddens me the online aspect of the game although operational is not active or at least I could'nt find any player to fight or coop with.
Int is *much* less active than JP, but there's still some people kicking around on there. It might be that the co-opers just aren't around in your timezone, if you're ever stuck feel free to reach out to various VD places and you can probably find some guys to help you out (Or maybe I can plug my PS3 back in and do that too lol)
Hey Chole, want to point out something: You can repeat sub missions. Meaning yes the eco is tight, but you can grind out of that spot assuming your performance is good enough. From testing this has no limitations.
I'd highly recommend looking further into the story of V; it seems like you missed a lot, i dont understand how you could play through that game and say "no story". The main story, the stuff with Chief, is super solid if you do a little digging and the order missions retell the story of King Lear with an Armored Core coat of paint.
So this game's campaign is indeed much harder. I thought i just suck at the game for some reason, because i steamrolled 5's campaign but can barely pass the first few missions of VD back then. If i knew the campaign is much better than 5 i would've pushed through instead of quitting back then. Wish i still have my 360, nowadays i just play 6 & Last Raven w/emulator.
its always like that the numbered titles will be easier than the expansions where they have "dialed" in the numbers but isnt as BS-quality as Last Raven where the numbers were soo tuned towards the enemies' side.... ya know everyone having Human+ except you being one of them?
+1 to that video. Although, in the server that's mentioned in that video, there's a second lower-specced pack for Xenia that runs better on weaker PCs. Both are very easy to setup however.
So, ACVD is one of my all time favorite games. But like, you can't even begin to compare the difficulty to Last Raven when you never got around to fighting Ultimate Zinaida in LR. ACVD is hard, but at least it's *possible.*
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. My man. How are we going to like Gen 5 gameplay and not cover Hardcore Mode?! I swear I sunk more hours into HC Mode challenge runs than many of the rest of the series combined.
I started with AC5 and I love it! Just start playing AC6 now. There's no doubt that the AC6 is awesome. However, one can’t say that AC5 wasn’t good enough. I think all AC series were great for their time. Anyway, they are all the same AC games from the same developers. Why do we need to compare? A thank you is enough!
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the game, though could you say if you enjoyed it any more or less than ARMORED CORE: for Answer? Armored Core: Verdict Day was the first AC game I bought, and it was a pretty rough place for me to start playing the series. Not that playing previous ones would help at all, I'm just not a fan of 5th gen. It feels like there's so much trial and error. I almost have to exclusively use powerful weapons just to bust through enemy defenses. If I would use anything below their defense, the fights drag on too long, I take more damage, run out of ammo, and have a high ammo cost. Mission areas are so small. I regularly fly out of bounds. Bosses are regularly far out of bounds. Thankfully AC6 remedied the mission area problem with solid borders. Oh, thank you FromSoftware. Praise the Sun. Plus, scan mode is really annoying. I don't like that I don't get the full potential out of my AC without constantly switching to scan mode. Is my flying dumpster AC powered by a screaming 1.6L I4 engine? Or is it powered by a hamster running on a wheel? They couldn't possibly make this a game mechanic in AC6:FoR as that would pull too many people out of the action like it did in this game. Another annoyance is how many microtransactions there are for the game. I never bought any, but they're holding back on the game's potential with the awful pay wall. As for the final boss, back in time I was regularly grinding him for money. I'm trying to figure out what build I had to not take so much damage. Maybe super light. The two things I do really like about AC:VD are One: the music. The industrial music is so noisy, fuzzy, and messy. I love it. One of my favorite soundtracks. Two: I really like the characters The Foundation, and Reaper Squad's leader J. There's so much mystery to them. I want to know more about them, and they're both excellently voice acted. Many years after playing AC:VD I bought ARMORED CORE: for Answer, and that game GREATLY improved my opinion of the franchise.
@@haihuynh8772 Well, it can be fast if you use Lightweight Builds (Bipedal-L or Reverse Joint-L), using the wall jumps properly and maintaining speed with Scan Mode
Ah, Verdict Day. My first AC game, which I was not prepared for at all. Still, I did managed to beat it and you are right, the game's economy is brutal. Also, good tip, since you get multiple Ultimate Weapons from the last mission, sell them. Where, I will say this that you got some wrong. Humanity did not go underground. Since funny enough, the pollution from Kojima Particles was finally dispersing and disappearing for good now. Now with that tidbit out of the way, time for the full back story. So part one, Armored Core V Before is a sequel to the ACV's story. It was here that a few things that happened. Chief and Carol fought with the our character, Fran and Rosary post game. And funny enough, Chief gave our character the nickname, Dark Raven. Another is that DR, Fran, Rosary meet a man named Isaac, a weakly sick man who was under the care of deserted Men of Honor soldiers. Along with meeting a man named Ceasar. Here, the five were at one of the illusive Towers, which was telling its goals. Though during the escape, Isaac stayed behind, mostly busy ranting how humanity is a mistake. Venide would be form after their leader and AC Pilot, Ceasar, came back from the tower. Rosary and Fran went their separate ways. Rosary returning to the Men of Honor and reforming it as the Sirius Corporation. While Fran went to make the Evergreen Family, and supposedly was pregnant by our Dark Raven, though that's up in the air. Isaac was later transformed into a Phatasm, an human conscious turn AI. As for our Dark Raven, we do not know whatever happened, unfortunately. Now for the story in Verdict Day is well explained in the game, which is good for you and me. And yes, 100 years had passed between both games, correct. Though one things I'm surprise you did not note was Magnolia "Maggy" Curtis, who is granddaughter of Fran and maybe Dark Raven. She was a skilled pilot that would her grandparents proud. But she then had a run in with J, the leader of the Reaper Squad. This led head to be handicapped for two years before the start of the game. And the reason she joined with the Reaper Squad is due to the offer of Designed, if you remembered the Human Plus of Gen 5. And to pilot her AC again. Hence why she betrays you and force to fight her. Another thing to note is that the Foundation Man is hinted to be Isaac. And like Navi in AC Nexus, no one of the three factions bothered to meet with the Foundation other than been given the UNACs. Which later bit them in the ass when he triggered the virus that on purposed attacked the Three Faction. The whole Verdict War wasn't because the three factions Venide, Sirius and Evergreen, went to war. It was Isaac's decree that Humanity is unworthy to live and he gave the verdict as extinction. So while not calling you out, he still want you dead. Now for the final boss. Oh boy. I think you read the comments already. The final boss being a NEXT. And yes, it is indeed White Glint, though the Body is Type-Lahire and the Legs are 063AN. As for the name, N-WGIX, it is indeed NEXT-White Glint 9. Though the "nine" can mean a lot of things. From Nine Ball to the rank that White Glint had in FA, or 9th model. And a fun fact, you are fighting with the ruins of the Arms Fort form Armored Core For Answer, Spirit of Motherwill in the background. As for the pilot, J. Again, you may have been spoiled. It is indeed Joshua O'Brien from Armored Core 4. Now you are wondering "How does that work?" The answer is simple, if you read the artbooks. He is a Cultivater, or clones basically. Somehow a piece of DNA was saved from Joshua, which led to the creation of J. And a theory some have when Isaac/Foundation Man said that J "fought countless battlefields", suggest that J played virtual realities of his friend, Anatolia's Mercenary, and Strayed from FA of their missions. So in a weird way, AC4 and FA are games in VD. And another fact, though grim, the way J died in an explosion is the exact same way Joshua died in AC4. Oh, and a kicker about Black Glint, the final boss, Chole? That is a weaker AND stripped down version of a NEXT. You got your ass kicked by a weaker version of a NEXT for 2 hours. Let that sink in. Okay, not for the online tidibts. Shockingly, it's alive. Though barely since AC6's release killed VD's dying player base even more. Though you can still find matches in both 360 and PS3, though you have better chances on the latter than the former. I recommend joining the official AC server to organize online games. One thing that that the online had, with ACV, were online raid bosses. Yes, you heard right. As for the bosses, there is a video out there with all 7 of them. One being the Lady in Vortex, which is said to be Angie from ACV's Order Mission with the Zodiacs. Another being Exusia, which has both versions from ACV. And yes, there are two versions in that game, though one is a online boss and the servers are dead. The VD versions has both move sets. The final two online bosses that are noteworthy is a rematch with Black Glint and Spirit of Motherwill. For the rematch, you sadly do need to destroy the VOB for phase 1. Then for phase 2, Black Glint has dual energy blades that can easily kill you. As for Spirit of Motherwill, while not completed like the Death Star 2, even with 4 5th gen ACs, she can be a challenging bitch. Well, hope you liked what I had to say. Good thing Verdict Day explained the story more well and I did not had to focus too much on it. Though the back stories is just a headache. Along with crazy shit that you probably did not expect. Anyway, hope you enjoyed your time and can't wait for AC6 review. EDIT: One more thing, if you re read this again. You do play some missions set in ACV again in VD. And they all hint the game indeed took place in the ruins of the USA.
I've gone heavily into debt thanks to the final mission requiring me to use a super heavy build to destroy the final boss. My skills are poor, so I must rely on raw armor and firepower. And the ammo costs qre ridiculous.
Only part about six that bothers me (Firts ac game)wtf is with my 20meter tall robot with a pistol the size of a small van need to be 150m away the engage distance just feels of probably so melee could be viable but its still just weird
Wow, AC6 added so much less that I thought. Seems like the only real know thing is the stun mechanic, which I'm honestly not a huge fan of. I hope the sequel to 6 is as much as a bump up as their others have been. It'll be great to off the two big damn maps they had that they just artificially cordon off with magic red walls. I really enjoyed AC6, but I think almost everything anyone loves about it was present in some previous game, and there's a lot of great stuff from previous games they need to bring back.
even the stun mechanic isnt new its more or less from this generation of games that was put into it basically logic goes Primal Armor became Poise AC1-ACLR stun became stagger armor break in ACV which became Sekiro stagger which then became AC6 stagger in short them revealing this all important bar which was once invisible is the change this is considering the structural foundation of AC6 is literally more or less ACV
@@lesslighter You can argue that they're all similar because they have stun, but I feel like saying that is a bit facetious. In every single game prior to ACVI, stun was simply just a certain number threshold you had before a weapon would stun you for a small brief amount of time. This was simply a weapon mechanic to keep the slow firing, high damage weapons in check. It wasn't a meter at all, there's never been buildup before. VI stagger is an entirely new mechanic, and the entire game is build around it. Stagger is now the primary stat to focus on for legs and weapons, it can buildup, it's the key factor in balancing weapon types. None of this was a thing prior to ACVI.
@@val1703 in 5-VD it was equaly built up from over damage leading to armor breeak but you will never notice this unless its an AC vs AC fight in PvP, which lead to BR and point blank sniper rifles being the choice of weapons if you are weak to CE or KE damage
@@lesslighter Both Armor Break and Hard Stagger are entirely thresholds, determined entirely by your AC's overall "Recoil Resistance" stat and the receiving weapon's "Impact" stat. There is no buildup or hidden meter to speak of whatsoever.
@@FoxyPercival714 I asked because V wasn't required to be online all the time. It had content tied to online but it wasn't required to simply play and beat the game.
I'm not going to go keyboard warrior about AC:VD's final boss being the hardest fight you've played. I haven't played VD, so I cannot comment further than what you've provided. I would like to say your comparison between LR and VD highlights something for me that I've been saying for a long while to other people: a hard boss fight is only that; it does not mean the game is hard. A truly good, well-made, and challenging _game_ is one that demands you to use every resource at your disposal to their maximum effect. A mission that is also an endurance test that pushes the limits of your resources, those are always the best AC missions. If a game has you go into a boss fight fresh, we have to consider what all else is at play. Does it have weak spots that are difficult to hit? How hard does the boss hit? What resources are you juggling other than your own health and ammo, if any? Is the AI an input-reading scumbag? Those are the kinds of details I'd like to hear you expand upon because these are the things that tell us if the challenge is real or artificial. For example, if the boss simply a bullet sponge, then all you have is a DPS race. That's not real difficulty by any measure. It just drags out a fight. What do you think?
VD's boss isnt even a bullet sponge however you waiting for the assault armor to trigger is one of the annoying parts of that mission, the thing is that J can be 2 shot by the strongest pile (you basically have enough ammo for 4 bunker shots to finish the mission in 2-3 minutes) bunkers you have in the game mastering being able to use the CE blades is a feat on itself
you can 2hk the final boss with the right build it's not a bullet sponge the first phase requires you to get close and then run away to bait out the primal armor and then attack him before it can regenerate in phase 2 the primal armor goes away but he flies more, becomes much faster you take constant damage from the kojima radiation on top of that he fires rapidfire volleys of missiles and assault rifle shots, so you need to stay mobile, agile to dodge the missiles and accurate so you can burn his health out before radiation burns yours out it's a well-made boss and the fact that you're doubting his judgement of it being a hard fight despite never having played the game is just plain dumb
Verdict day made me like AC5 and it's gameplay a bit more than the last one. What I didn't like was how the shields only deflected one damage type and was weak to others. The weapon arms were nice and have their uses but the changes done to the Ultimate Weapons were terrible. Not only did they keep the annoying broken television visuals, but they made it so that after using them you completely run out of energy. Still great game though especially the UNAC system which is really deep and helped me visualize how to program path finding for ai in Unreal Engine.

yknow honestly with last raven i personally didn't have issue with that long pulverizer encounter, once i went through it a second time from the start i was able to power through it. could get through everything but the ac with some peaking and my build was good enough to slay that ac.
zinaida on the other hand is really really friggin hard.
unlimited energy on a build tailor made to abuse the hell out of it, with as much mobility and firepower as that entails. and more health than normal. i had to swap to a build tailor made to kill her and look up guides to even hear her dialogue.

@@deckire all ACs with the exception of gen 5 are around 10m, the games just have wacky scaling.
Gen 1 through 3 ACs are about 5m tall; NEXTs are about 10m tall, and Gen 5 ACs are about 3m tall.
You're fighting the highest peak of the franchise with the deepest valley of the franchise, and you're _winning_
@@Attaxalotl nope, Gen 3 and 3.5 are the same size as 4 and 6.

Not a clone of various people, just Joshua.
There is the crashed wreckage of an AC:FA Cradle in one map, and it’s nowhere near the same size or shape as the Towers.
Strayed was so successful that there wasn't enough left to remember him.
Where does it say that J's DNA was spliced?
@AnatoliasAce3341 i believe his bio says it, i also looked up the armored core wiki and it says he's a "Cultivator - an artificially grown soldier cloned from pilots of notable skill."
@@theskipper7305 Cultivater*
And it doesn't say that in the AFTER. It just says each Cultivater is a clone of a famous pilot.
Regarding your lore speculations in the previous video, I don’t think the gen 4/NEXT tech was banned so much as it was outright *lost*. I think by the time of gen 5 people are slowly rediscovering them again, which leads to the final boss of this game.
Yes, that Is basically what happened, after the Kojima particles literally dissapear from existence and war just got More agresive the corps decided to instead of using NEXTs to fight go back to normal ACs and also because of the diference of Time (at least more than 300 years) betwen 4 and 5 almost all NEXT tecnology was destroyed and nobody cared about storing it because since Kojima particles dont exist anymore they can't build one
And then when the towers appear APARENTLY (because the game dont say anything about it) the fundatiom find enought tecnology to """repair""" a NEXT and stuck some Kojima particles inside that probably we're inside the towers, anyways you know AC story Is like a puzzle so this Is just how i belive everything hapenned with the bit of info the games give
Madlad really did play all the series
The only bad thing about Verdict Day(September 24, 2013) is that it got released two months before the release of PS4(November 15, 2013) which pretty much taken over any interest it could get. Not to mention it didn't get ported to PS4 which sentenced it to death.
I know if it would of been released on PS4 it would of been a great launch title.
@@NotackaTHIS!!! And also boost a little bit for Sony PSN sale cuz Ac5 at that time was online co-op focus game
Some details regarding the story:
The Tale of the Dark Raven is that of ACV, and the Dark Raven is the previous player
The fact that you also fight the NEXT on the Wreckage of the Motherwill also adds to the flavor
The NEXT (you probably know this already) is called NWGIX/v, which stands for NEXT White Glint 9th version (there's that funny number again)
Another important detail is how ACV is a retelliing of the first AC games, and make it a point about the Cyclic nature of the games' wars and "Great Destructions"
The Towers are the Cradles
You may have also seen the "Raid Bosses" as well, which consist of Lady in Vortex (who's one of the previous characters from 5 uploaded into it), a Suped-up Exusia fight from 5 (both versions fused into one, attacks-wise), as well as _Motherwill and a Stronger NWGIX/v._

@@AnatoliasAce3341then what does I stand for? also hi, mr ask me lore questions
I'm very surprised and pleased to know that you enjoyed your time with 5th gen. Most people are very dismissive of these two entries in the AC series.
it also depends on where you hit. as i've insta killed a full hp tank before because of where i kicked.
Classic Chole moment of going into crippling debt
Even though I'm a diehard gen 3 fan, I have to say Verdict Day has the best gamefeel of the entire series
It just feels so damn good to play

10:00 If you look at the actual tank models, some of them have full on pile bunkers built into them. Really cool detail.
@val1703 hello. I know this comment is 10months old but what are pile bunkers? Like sleeping quarters?
Old Raven here, I've been paying since 97. I've loved your journey through my favorite series. I can't wait to see you take on AC6.
Personally my favorite of the lot, everyone else likes to rag on gen5 though. =_=
Also tuning can actually make a huge difference for some weapons, for example in regards to range tunes certain Rifles such as kinfolk and isonokami would outrange sniper rifles that were tuned similarly. Not practical in any real way since the isonokami had horrid bullet speed and the kinfolk had horrid fire rate being an in-between rifle/Sniper-rifle in the first place but it let you fire regular rifles at 450~500 distances without the damage decay.
I dont understand how you can say ACV had almost nothing in terms of story when it had a massive story with main missions super long and designed to serve that story exclusively.
the story in ACV is "disjointled" thats the issue
@@lesslighter*Fromsoft games in general*

But what really gets me is that EVERYTHING in ACV IS CALLED AN AC even clearly IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE ONE
It's nice you mentioned UA's because I remember I made a Black Rock Shooter build with the big UA laser cannon back in the day.
Good ol' times, man.

I think it’s the Player Next from For Answer.

The rifles and missile will take care of him.
ojj yeah the issue with J is that you need to go on the defensive until he spits out the assault armor once this clicks in you know its going to be easy do not waste you ammo until then
from a guy who got stuck with chapter 8 and couldnt move forward due to him fearing the old annoying system from V
So fun watching you go through the entire franchise for the first time! Would love to see you make a AC tier list in the future 😊
14:48 kick it with the tank, the window of melee atack is small tho, but is possible
damn man, why didn't I think of that??
Always happy to see others enjoy the game that i hold close to me!
Based on the footages here, I'm surprised how good the game still looks even compare to AC6, there seems to be a lot more different environments on each stage, they even seems grander in scale in comparison.
If you carefully look at part design, a lot of parts in V/VD were from 4/FA. Oh, the towers had underground facilities underneath them that implies all AC games were in one universe
weeps in the continent where AC3-SL takes place, and then you have Formula Front....
Bro try LR Zinaida route, especially the psp one. One hell of an experience.
Programming the AI of UNACs makes me feel like an engineer
This game definitely felt like a bit of a step up in terms of missions for me. Story wise I kinda put it on the same level as ACV. In terms of plot I think I prefer VD but characters are about equalish. Fighting a NEXT at the end of VD was so dope but terrifying considering now you are basically a Normal unit in that boss’ eyes. Being a White Glint copy along with the Kojima particles kicking in at phase 2 to make it a timer made it more terrifying. I wish the Reaper Squad was expanded on a bit more
AC 5 is great indeed. It's only bad when the console it was installed on could only run it on 14 fps
A PC release what its need most
13:20 I laughed so much when u talked about how saying the last fight is the hardest u have seen in the franchise would upset people because last raven exist. Hahahaha too true
Thank you for doing the series review. I’m a huge fan of ac and your content and critiques are very fun
I reckon the Co Op was the best part of the game, wished AC6 could've had them in the story mode as well.
ACV has the best art style IMO
Loved the video series! And I was wondering, what did you think of Mission 7-4 (especially with that supposed difficulty rating of 7)? That mission took me almost as long to conquer as it took to defeat J.
In VD, I've had missions (particularly the last) where the income was -50,000 or more.
Running a heavy tank AC and big guns will do that.
WAR IS PART OF MY EXISTENCE
Playing this back when it came out I went fuckin nuts when saw the final boss and even moreso when I realized the music I was drowning out with gunfire was a Remember remix.
Fun Fact I noticed: the revived Frankenstein NEXT has White Glint's head
People who complain about not having good multiplayer in AC 6 Can blame ac 5 for the super focus into multiplayer so much it hurts the experience. verdict day could not wash the stigma of that stain away sadly
Between that and Chromehounds I can see why From might be wary of developing much into MP content nowadays.
Released in a time that every AC fan knows the implausibility of trying to get new people to the franchise. (They know they are niche as fuck back then)
reminds me of ds2 A LOT (although i don't think they HARD focused on ds2 multiplier just had it coincidentally have the best MP of the souls games)
I honestly think Bandai is at least partially responsible for the shit multiplayer
a lot of bandai games have very similarly barebones multiplayer experiences such as Ace Combat having an almost Identical system and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 also being similar
this game had a metric crap ton of maps, despite playing VD for hundreds of hours some of these Ive only seen like once
The auto lock in 6 was a let down , feels like it’s on rails or something .
Ngl beating mission 10 solo is a pain but its very gratifying to do so
I think Ultimate weapons are cool.
Did you have to do a lot of tweaking with the emulator? I've read that Gen V doesn't work that well with emulation.
the emulator was a bitch to get working 😂
You can definitely get it to a point where it's stable on Xenia Canary, but I'm not really sure I recommend going through the headache...
Just bought it on my PS3 and played as my first AC game.a few hours in game and I'm really enjoying it although it saddens me the online aspect of the game although operational is not active or at least I could'nt find any player to fight or coop with.
I'm gonna play it later this year on ps3, and many others may be too, lets revive it!
Would this type of AC review continue to 6 and beyond?

Hey Chole, want to point out something: You can repeat sub missions. Meaning yes the eco is tight, but you can grind out of that spot assuming your performance is good enough. From testing this has no limitations.
I'm a Venide fan.
They are brutal, unforgiving, and what a world would need.
For a time, at least.
Anyone knows how to actually make ACVD run smoothly on an emulator because from what i know the fifth gen doesn't really run well

+1 to that video. Although, in the server that's mentioned in that video, there's a second lower-specced pack for Xenia that runs better on weaker PCs. Both are very easy to setup however.
J is Joshua Obrein ( pretty sure i spell his name wrong ) from the previous AC game lore.
I swear I sunk more hours into HC Mode challenge runs than many of the rest of the series combined.
oh shit, I didn't have time to play around with it myself, and I meant to mention it but I guess it slipped my mind while writing 😅
I need to play this game
Its not just any NEXT.... its White Glint babyyyy!
VD is great. It's just that 4 purist were horrible crybabies that they can't play the same speed.
It does look unbearably sluggish compared to even AC1 and 2 though.
"Managed to revive a NEXT" That ain't just any NEXT...
I have discovered PS3 era AC games seem rather heftily priced
not on vimms lair, using the rpcs3 emulator!
The only thing sucks about this is my 360 is dead and due to licensing issues its not backwards compatible and i really enjoy ac games
I've gone heavily into debt thanks to the final mission requiring me to use a super heavy build to destroy the final boss.
My skills are poor, so I must rely on raw armor and firepower. And the ammo costs qre ridiculous.
Great video dude :)
Well you’ve earned a sub and im wondering ya gonna put in AC6 to top off the series?
it's already in the works 🙂
>Pulverizer fight from Last Raven is hard
>Hover leg Pulverizer is easily the easiest Pulverizer variant to defeat
And you have hearing problems because he said he only found it hard because he had to do it after a long mission and AC fight that ate his resources
I wouldn't say so at all, they're practically polar opposites of each-other IMO.
even the stun mechanic isnt new its more or less from this generation of games that was put into it basically logic goes
Primal Armor became Poise
AC1-ACLR stun became stagger armor break in ACV which became Sekiro stagger which then became AC6 stagger in short them revealing this all important bar which was once invisible is the change
this is considering the structural foundation of AC6 is literally more or less ACV
Please please tell me that you'll be streaming AC6 (or at least uploading a VOD of the experience)😅
Now i wanna get S rank on AC6 !
I skipped Verdict day because of V's online aspect.
Was online removed or was it still required?
What do you mean, 'required'?
@@RippahRooJizah Required means online all the time.
@@FoxyPercival714 I asked because V wasn't required to be online all the time. It had content tied to online but it wasn't required to simply play and beat the game.
Gen 5 was never online required like the online has always been optional even in that gen
@@devilbringer1102 Really? So I can play verdict day story mode without online?
I need to play all of these fr fr
For the love of God dont make us wait 2 years for more AC6.
I'm playing it 4 the 1st time on ps3 and it looks like absolute shee1tt
yeah yeah you don't exactly look the best either inkfart
How can i play the old armored core games?
rpcs3, on vimms lair!
this felt more of a legit ACV for me.
Yeah skip that end game next. When I saw the particles in the air I already knew it was bad
VD's boss isnt even a bullet sponge however you waiting for the assault armor to trigger is one of the annoying parts of that mission, the thing is that J can be 2 shot by the strongest pile (you basically have enough ammo for 4 bunker shots to finish the mission in 2-3 minutes) bunkers you have in the game mastering being able to use the CE blades is a feat on itself
you can 2hk the final boss with the right build
it's not a bullet sponge
the first phase requires you to get close and then run away to bait out the primal armor and then attack him before it can regenerate
in phase 2 the primal armor goes away but he flies more, becomes much faster you take constant damage from the kojima radiation
on top of that he fires rapidfire volleys of missiles and assault rifle shots, so you need to stay mobile, agile to dodge the missiles and accurate so you can burn his health out before radiation burns yours out
it's a well-made boss and the fact that you're doubting his judgement of it being a hard fight despite never having played the game is just plain dumb
Verdict Day was peak Armored Core but the emulator community never played it.
I get goosebumps everytime I hear mechanized memories. Such a good track and it's a shame VI soundtrack is so mid.
I really wish to know the settings of emulator you have
can i ask what emulator you use?
I used Xenia Canary for Gen 5! But just know that it still doesn't really want to cooperate most of the time 😅
Verdict day made me like AC5 and it's gameplay a bit more than the last one.
