I think Angela Channing was the juiciest role in late-night television - in some ways even more so than Alexis Colby. I always stayed up late as a little kid to watch Falcon Crest after my entire family was in bed - I only was really watching for Jane Wyman.

As I child I was told this TV series was exaggerated and improbable, yet I was living the kind of life portrayed in the series. Where my father was trying to run his own company, and constantly bickering with his brothers over property, or getting contracts and so on and so forth. It is hard to believe those telling me it was improbable when I was living the script from the series. No wonder it made an impact on me.
I think they probably meant the cars driving off cliffs and faking pregnancies, stealing babies from people they actual know, deals with the mob that stuff.

This illustrates precisely what set FC apart from all of the other prime time soaps. FC revelled in its dark humor, making it “high camp” in places, as opposed to well, low camp. FC’s writers were in on the joke, whereas the other dramas took themselves waaay too seriously.

Dominic Dunne interviewed Jane Wyman in the early Nineties or late Eighties. She was proud of having "gradually, over the years, turned things around in the show, and finally gotten them the way I wanted them to be". So, Falconcrest's plots became more maudlin, and the sets got cheezier and sleazier.... until the show wasn't worth watching anymore. Painting the woodwork white, introducing cheap furniture and accessories... I stopped watching, because, even as a kid, I knew the show was beginning to pander to a scummier audience. I think the final straw for me was a cheaply-framed lithograph, hanging on a wall in Falcon Crest, of an Art Deco leopard... like something you'd see in a hair salon being run out of a doublewide trailer in rural Arkansas. But the Angela of the first season was a wonderful role model. And I've been amazed to meet several powerful people who modeled themselves after Angela as she originally was.

Dominic Dunne interviewed Jane Wyman in the early Nineties or late Eighties. She was proud of having "gradually, over the years, turned things around in the show, and finally gotten them the way I wanted them to be". So, Falconcrest's plots became more maudlin, and the sets got cheezier and sleazier.... until the show wasn't worth watching anymore. Painting the woodwork white, introducing cheap furniture and accessories... I stopped watching, because, even as a kid, I knew the show was beginning to pander to a scummier audience. I think the final straw for me was a cheaply-framed lithograph, hanging on a wall in Falcon Crest, of an Art Deco leopard... like something you'd see in a hair salon being run out of a doublewide trailer in rural Arkansas.
But the Angela of the first season was a wonderful role model. And I've been amazed to meet several powerful people who modeled themselves after Angela as she originally was.

Dallas and Knots Landing were far superior. Intro was the only good thing about this show - lines and acting were awful.
