The team needs to reset the excuse clock. I have zero faith in Caleb Williams being anything but another rookie behind the curve.
That interview was so comforting and reassuring because we’ve been let down a lot in the past with Bum quarterbacks that bust I’m not saying that JF was a bust by any means and I would’ve been happy if we kept him but both parties have moved on and I wish him the best of luck, this is now the Caleb Williams era. Go Bears!
I have doubts about how good this defense really is. They did very well during the 2nd half of the season but who did they beat/stop during that stretch besides the one game vs DET? Panthers, Vikings ( Dobbs at QB and no Jefferson ), Cardinals and Falcons. Not exactly offensive powerhouses. #9 ( possible trade down ) has to be a DE. Latu, Verse or Turner in that order.
Would be grt to see the O compete, but without a top pass rush, who we kidding. If it's Caleb, arm candy looks real. But USC didn't win against teams with O&D. That's mostly why I could pass. Use extra picks throughout the team. If we can rush the passer, might be a new day. BD

The score is a huge part of this. Clearly fans are passionate and the hosts at the score have been obnoxious and antagonistic for weeks, and are now like “whoa, all we did was tell you how dumb you all were for weeks and how much the guy you like sucks. You don’t get to be angry now”.

It is absolutely the BEST EVER in Chicago for any incoming QB.
I do not like CW, and have this VERY bad feeling about him. The more I watch his game tape, the more that feeling grows.
Kyle played the game and he tells it like it is. I especially liked his comments about Darnell Wright he certainly seems to respect what he brings to the table moving forward. And in that vein I will say this. Today both Shannon Sharpe and Louis Riddick said this. The Bears need to give this young man Caleb Williams what a QB needs most. Security. And that means more O Line quality which is your foundation. Think about this. What is highly rated at the top of this draft? WRs and OL men. And with possibly four QBs being taken in the top 9 that means some of that talent is going to fall to the Bears. That’s why after 30 years of mediocre and sub par O lines and NEVER having a HOF WR that’s where you go to show this young man you mean business. You either take Odunze or one of the three highly rated OL in Fashanu, Fuaga, or Latham. You do that and Caleb knows you mean business. And for those who want defense remember one thing a dominant O line dictates the game and is in a sense your defense.

Ryan Poles is the GM of the Chicago Bears and he handled the situation like he is the agent of Justin Fields. I can understand the desire to trade Justin Fields. I can understand the desire to trade Justin Fields to the team he wants to be traded to but the compensation wasn't close to fair value. You don't sell a gold coin for $600 because the seller you want to give the business to will only pay you partial value. Ryan Poles should have added more provisions to the deal based on the Steelers getting more value. There already was precedent in the previous trade for Calvin Ridley. 6th round if Justin sits on the bench. 5th round pick if he plays 25% of snaps. 4th round pick if he plays 50% of the snaps. 4th and 6th round picks if he plays 75% of the snaps. If the Steelers trade Justin Fields during the 2024 season or after the season, the Bears should get the 4th and 6th round picks. If the Steelers extend Justin Fields after the season, the Bears should get the 4th round pick even if he sat on the bench all season. That would have been a fair trade and made sense to the organization, in addition to satisfying Justin's desires. Everybody wins in that scenario. With the trade as it stands, the Bears lose in every possible scenario unless Russell Wilson gets injured and Justin Fields happens to play more than half the snaps. Unlikely. The Steelers can choose to play a third stringer for a couple of games to make sure the pick isn't a 4th round draft pick. That possibility should not even be a possibility.

The bears will regret this. They could have got a 1st round 2nd at the worst if they waited for just 1 QB on a good team to get hurt. Also Fields will be a top 15 QB in the NFL at the worst I see him top 10 playing with a real football team. He had to expect pressure on every play. Odds are 1 of his 5 shitty lineman was gonna make a mistake. Worst defense in the NFL. Worst offense in the NFL year 2. MFer put up 30-40 points a game with nothing. And he gets blamed for those losses.
I appreciate how KL is matter of fact. He’s been a player in the NFL and gets it. Time to move on Chicago we have a great opportunity ahead of us.
I'm a Bears fan and have only ever been a Bears fan being born 2 miles from Soldiers Field and raised in the city..
I'm a Bears fan more more than Poles or Warren who are only fans because they're employees. And I'll be a Bears fan after they move on and begin to pull for other teams.
But I'm also a fan of competency and treating people right. Poles a d Warren didn't do Fields right. And in not doing him right they literally hurt the team in many ways.
Aside from getting NOTHING for him, you betrayed the trust of your vets on offense and defense who openly endorsed keeping him, and you showed yourself to the league as not caring about the guy who was the embodiment of everything you said you wanted a player to be, and had shown progress under poor coaching, playcalling, a patchwork o-line, and not enough weapons.
Players in the league see how Poles and Warren did Fields and rightfully consider them snakes. If they can help it, no one wants to play for a team that will do a guy like Justin Fields dirty like they did.
I've been a lifelong fan but a part of me wants to see them not succeed simply because of how dirty they did Fields.

We do not fantasize about losing the Bears are historically bad with quarterbacks we’ve never had a good one and Justin is the best one we’ve ever had and it’s nerve racking to think about losing him for the unknown !!!!

The people who think the Bears should pick JJ McCarthy are being hypocrites. Because critics of Fields said he played with the best college players at Ohio State. Michigan had the best talent in the country last year and were also caught cheating. And McCarthy did much less than Fields as a passer in college. Caleb did not have as much talent at USC, although he had some his sophomore year. And USC was 14-0 under Williams when their defense held opponents under 35 points.
I have no problem moving on from Fields. But if you are going to move on from him you should have also moved on from Eberflus. Otherwise it will be the same result from the past few head coaches with the past few quarterbacks.

Too many years of risk management work has caused me to always wish for a plan B...and I'm still not convinced we have one if any of it goes sideways quickly because of an injury (God forbid) or someone just isn't quite ready for prime time just yet (worry how crowds could turn quickly in that scenario). Expectations are 10-7 for most fans...hopefully a WC birth. That was the expectation already with JF so I don't see fans generally agreeing with the move if that's not playing out at least as a real opportunity by week 5. Just my 2 cents.

The reason I'm not more excited is because I'm tired of getting my hopes up, only to be let down year after year. It's not easy being a Bears fan
If you look around the league, most teams disappoint their fan base - Buffalo, Eagles, Baltimore - all have lots of talent but do not fulfill their potential. Poles is finally building a team with sound foundation and a QB that can be special if its fan base just chills out and enjoys the moments he will provide us. And with a healthy cap space and draft capital to continue to add talent year after year. That is how it happens.

Trading him and selecting the rookie QB of choice saves CAP by resetting the rookie contract. CalebW or JaydenD could be the answer with overall teams upgrades and a few more draft additions. because Poles inherited a team with too much salary and not enough draft capital because they traded to get Fields. It was always going to take time to rebuild. This is obvious.
I think when it comes down to it Pace should not have been allowed to make the fields pick anyway considering where the roster was trending.
I'm not upset, Fields was not drafted by Poles, the team that Justin played around was built by Pace who was fired. Could it be that we saw the team grow and build and it felt like they were closer to breaking thru...all the sacks and dropped passes were about to be for something...even if we got a wild card birth, it was progression thru hard work and team building. This guy's comes in after all the work is done and all of a sudden HE'S the good guy in this? Bigger than sports, this was a guy being dealt a bad hand, which happens, but that's my thinking. And the receiver room has been terrible until Keenan Allen was added. You add Marvin, Harrison, Junior and a couple key lineman, this team in 2024 is a playoff team.
Fields had his chance and he was awful to mediocre. He can't execute a modern offense, he can't read a zone, he throws too slow, and he gets injured all the time. He's done
Remember, GB record the first year Aaron Rogers started was 6-10 after learning for 3 years under Favre. Caleb as a rookie? Another loosing season and the coaches get replaced. Then another rebuild. Will it ever end?
