Polar Vortex explained - why will it be so cold in the south?

    Used to be this was called the Siberian Express. Happened every winter pretty much, aka "cold snap". But somewhere along the line the term "Polar Vortex" came along, guess it sounds scarier.

    No it doesn't sound intimidating. It just sounds like another ridiculous made up phrase like "atmospheric river".

      Warmer waters around the Caribbean with it being further south

      Do you know what does? All of those persistent contrails ;-) they're totally normal and natural and they certainly aren't harming a thing.

      @Grandma_Jizzzzzzzard If you mean that contrails are a result of greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming, therefore warming and destabilizing the stratosphere causing weakening of the polar vortex allowing it to move further south than, yes.

    Gee, I wonder what's causing this disturbance. I have lived in the south for 61 years and we had never experienced a polar vortex one single time until 2022.
    Totally natural. 🤡
