I was a junior in an all white Catholic high school when the shocking, violent murders of these beautiful young girls, who were only a couple years younger than I was, occurred - for no other reason than the color of their skin. I was horrified and in complete disbelief that such a thing could happen in a country supposedly founded on “liberty and justice for all.” Clearly we had totally betrayed the spirit of those initiating principles. I did not have the means then, but on this sad and somber anniversary, allow me to send heartfelt condolences to the McNair, Wesley, Robertson, and Collins families for your incalculable loss. The beautiful, bright spirits of your precious daughters are not forgotten.
I remember when I did summer school in 8th grade, I read this book titled The Watsons Go to Birmingham, it’s about this black family living in Michigan in the 60s and they go on a trip to Birmingham to visit their grandma. And there was this moment where they learn about the bombing of the church
When blacks speak of reparations in correlation to the Holocaust people be like ohhhh slavery ended 1865 and the Holocaust was from 1941-45 well THIS happened 1963 and many more things related to right out racial discrimination and systemic racism was SO NOW WHAT???
The fact she pays the debt of what happened to her, hospital bills, just living… Even if we never see reparations those who were still ALIVE To this day should be receiving the very wealth Jewish people see who suffered what they did… nefarious acts.
I wish someone would tell her full story. I do appreciate the platforms that acknowledge her.
