So fun to see! I might even be watching my maternal Grandfather here, and not even know it! His name was Arthur Grammond, and he was a Portland Streetcar Driver his entire working life! He passed before I was born, which was in 1959. In fact, as streetcar #523 passes by (from 0:30 - 0:35) the driver looks very much like him, from the old photos I have!
It's ironic that they dismantled the the streetcars by the 1960s only to put it back in, starting with the first MAX line in 1982 (start of construction), running between downtown Portland and Gresham. It has since expanded into several MAX light rail lines and the streetcar service on multiple routes.
Great historical footage of Portland Traction streetcars. Early scenes are late 1940s (MT and AB ceased operation in 1948). My only criticism other than jutter caused by first film gate is that scenes from the Interurban lines (Bellrose and Oregon City) would benefit from being edited together rather than mixed in with the city lines.

Hi JW, my great grandfather was also a trolley car operator on the Bell Rose Line out to Gresham, his name was James Oscar Belew.

5:08 "say fellas!, let's film the only color slide in a random forest!"
Can somebody write, what are we seeing at 2.09?
I wonder if that was Sunset Transit Center area, when the streetcar reached a grassy hill and turned back.

At best, this is the early 1940s, more likely mid to late 30s. There is not a single car from the 1950s in any scene.
Rwd tanks
Different film clips , from different years and nothing later than about 1948
Late 30’s - early 40's.
Wow no tents or homeless people crazy
That's exactly what I thought
Judging from the cars this was much earlier then the 50s.
More like early 1940s definitely not early 50s
i have to agree ,by the cars i saw its 1940 at latest, but probably 1939
1946
Pre 1950
definitely not yet the 50s. Probably more like WWll time.
1940s?
