My dad was in the coal business all his life and in 1967 took us to this area for a family vacation. He always talked about potash and loved this kind of scenery. Watching this made me feel like he was here with me. Your videos are gorgeous and tranquilizing and so informative. My husband Richard is your biggest fan and I'm your new one. Thank you so much for this excellence. ❤

It is humblig watching theese vetrans navigate theese rugged terains in. full control of getting ttheese trains from point to point could almost run their trains blindfolded with the experience they have. I say almost blindfolded because it would be. imposible to do their jobs s afely

So many familiar scenes and landmarks. In winter 1978 friends and I took this same trip for train chasing. Sacramento to Provo, Mapleton, Thistle, Soldier Summit, Helper, Price, Green River. We caught the Rio Grande Zephyr a couple of days. Also spent the night at the Utah Railway yard. Alcos! We traveled and cold camped in my VW bus. See my avatar. Froze our asses, our water and had to warm the oil sump one morning with the catalytic heater before the bus would start. Our trip back to Sacramento we kept going South to the Grand Canyon. On our way back we also stopped at Tehachapi Loop for more chasing. Great Trip. Recently scanned the slides and working on a slideshow. Nice work here on your part. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for documenting the trains on this video especially the last segment on the Utah Railroad, Drayton! Your efforts at documenting current railroad history are greatly appreciated along with the historical perspective that you add to current railroad operations. I really appreciate all the effort you put into your video productions.

One of my best railroad memories happened on the UTAH in Provo, and to make it sweeter, it was on National Train Day. A friend and I noticed that their was some Aussie units as well was the MK50-3s. Also was their was a Utah Railway employee. I asked first thing if we could check out the interior of the MK50-3s. He told have at it, but be aware of your surroundings. Then go and see him once we was done. So we seen the interior of 5001, 5006 & 6062, a SD50S. Also on hand was a GP38-2 in fresh paint. After we photographed the units we went in and let him know that we was fine but things just got better. He had waiting for us was a cold bottle of water and a true Utah Railway hat. No orange at all on the hat. Very awesome day. Earlier down in Ogden on display was UP 1989 and 1996!. That day will be hard to top that one off. Thanks for bringing back the memories Delay in Block!

Drayton, very nice work! I would really like to see you do some more videos out west.
Maybe go from Salt Lake to Portland and follow the Uncle Pete over the Blues Mountains
in Eastern Oregon over to Hinkle yard and down the Columbia River Gorge into
Portland. Then while your here in Portland you can check out SP4449 and SPS700
and some short line activity in the area.

Very informative and well-put-together video I grew up next to the tracks of what was then the New Haven Railroad (Metro-North) in Old Greenwich, Ct. as a kid that was like our playground. We would do some crazy things near the tracks my parent's house was a block away from the Electrolux Factory so we used to climb around on the boxcars at the spur to the factory. On a couple of occasions climbed aboard a boxcar and then released the air brakes and ride it down the spur to the factory (stupid kid stuff).
All your videos are great because of the informative narration which goes along with the video. While watching the video of the coal train in Utah I was thinking of all the folks who no longer have jobs because we are phasing out coal power. It has to be done due to the harm to our planet of global warming but unfortunately, every change affects or hurts someone. It was great to have a record of a historic coal train in action. Thanks, Chas.
