2:49 yeah.. no, kinda, he tried, but he failed. The bath scene with Sylphie was Paul learning from his mistake moment. When he reunited with Rudeus he tried but failed. He interrupted Rudeus mid-explanation and that's why he didn't find out that Rudeus didn't read the letter because Rudeus was kidnapped before he could and never went to the port where he would've found the letter.
Paul is great but a 4 minute video is not enough to explain the nuances of his character.

He's not a good father but he's not that bad too. He's kinda in the middle.

he's a great father in my opinion. tbh he has his flaws but parenting is'nt easy and i feel the good he's done far outweighs the bad... we all know paul is'nt a decent guy, he's impulsive and emotional, childish asf and proud. his personality contributes a'lot to the mistakes he's made but it in no way makes him a bad father or any less a good father... I think what makes someone a good "person" is when you do good despite it being out of your character and it being out of the way. I think that can apply to parenting and i think he does alot of out of character things to be the best father he could be. even when he says save your mom even if it kills you but ends up sacrificing himself instead. he does things against his character a good amount of times not just for rudy but for his family
and from the way his party talks about him, paul change a whole lot over the years he spent searching for his lost family he went from scum to a respectable asf person and father. and i think that change in him started the day rudy was born. parenting changes people but the ones who dont change i think are the oens who are bad parents...

I think given the context of the world he is in, he is a pretty good father. By our standards of the world we live in he is pretty mediocre as a father.

@@TimeMaster0 I understand why you'd say that but my reasoning stems from the world we live in and i use it as a basis to evaluate his parenting skills. i havent actually touched on the implications of being a parent in a turbulent medieval world like his as yet. which ofcourse comes with its own complications but on pure parenting aptitude, paul passes, remember good parenting isnt spoiling your child. tough love is also a valid way to raise a child depending on the gender and environment ofcourse. paul is navigating uncharted territory with zero to no guidance just zenith's help but his role as a father is different from the role of a mother ofcourse. he sure thinks highly of and has high expectations of rudy and puts great pride in hi abilities and intelligence to the point he puts alot of responsibility on rudy's shoulders intentionally or not but we cant blame him rudy is a reincarnator and extraordinary, any parent would be perplexed and or hardpressed not to put their faith in such a respectable, dependable son. sorry for ranting

@@dimetri1678 I agree. I think he's a great father with some personality flaws and a past he's trying to move on from. After the Teleportation incident, he dedicated every ounce of his being to reuniting his family. Even during his depression and alcoholism, he never neglected Norn, always prioritizing her needs. His life's purpose was to reunite his family, and he sacrificed himself to save his beloved son, fulfilling his goal even though he never saw it himself. I don't understand how anyone can say he's just a "middle" area father.

But he doesn't teach his daughters anything. Only his son. He also abandoned all three for someone else to takencare of. Rudy at seven and his other two to the maid and his mother and ultimately Rudy. He doesn't reflex but he does learn. You keep saying his children but only showed that to Rudy. He made Norn a spoiled child and Aisha feel like she can not be anything more than the daughter of a maid so she tries hard for affection. He also rushed that dungeon risking everyone's life all body. Everyone just helped for their own reasons. But he forced too much on everyone.

i mean rudeus aint build the same like other childrens man ya cant force a crying child to wield a sword bruh. Wdym he abandoned his family? My guy he helped rudues obtain a job not abandon him. Norn aint a spoiled child just a personality she was born with and dont even compare her with rudeus. Aisha too was spoiled in different aspect but it was her mother that shaped her like that, not paul. Paul made sure to find all of his family and the group agreed to find her so he isnt the only one deciding and he made sure both his family were save with his reliable son. The dungeon rush part was his fault yes but can you blame him? His loved one that he been searching for more than 5 years where in front of him and endangered. Ofc bro wouldn't keep a cool mind about that, I mean can you endure 5 years without your parents just to find them behind bars of a mafia organisation? And still keep your mentality while surviving and caring for a child still?
Phew i think i cooked enough here so there you have it. Paul has flaws but doesnt mean he doesnt care for his family or even others. Im convince ya didnt even watch the show to season 2 part 2 honestly.

@sans-gn2op I read it, buddy. I never said he didn't care about his family. But he isn't the greatest father. He did everything wrong even up until the end. Those friends of his went it there by choice because he would have done it alone if they didn't. Paul spoiled Norn more than Aisha, and Aisha tried her hardest in everything. Which is why she feels less than. Because she can never be loved like Rudy or Norn. Norn never tries in anything and still gets her way. And still cries about it. That was Paul's upbringing. Paul left a child at seven to be with someone else and still expects the child to love the mother one hundred percent. When most children wake up at age three or four.
Everyone in the story has flaws. It is what makes the story one of the greatest out there. But don't say things like his the best father or like the video saying he did this for his children when he abandoned them all at young ages to possibly get the mother back. And only did those things for Rudy. This is a world where most people moved on a few years after the displacement. It is actually more normal to assume they are dead. Some people who are displaced don't even bother to go home because it would be too hard on everyone. They just start over with what they had. There is a character never mentioned in the anime that did just that. She ended up in the demon continent and not even knowing the language got lucky and was protected by a beast couple. To show her appreciation, she just lives her whole life with them working in their store. She had a family but assumed they died and her old family assumed she died.
It is why Eris grandpa let's himself get killed for the displacement. People are upset and needed a way to move on. He took that for the team so a war wouldn't break out. One that would cost many people to be hunted. It is why Eris could fake her death.

@@JoseLopez-gi9sf I sincerely disagree with your argument. How can you say Paul is a bad father after all he's done for his family? I already made an argument about why he's a good father here but seeing this comment just really disappointed me I'm jobless fans. The fact you pointed out that most people moved on and even assumed the worst of their loved ones after the displacement is enough proof to show me how much dedication and commitment it takes to keep persevering in such a hopeless situation. He even helped people from Buena village get back to safety, saved them from slavery etc... I mean look at Paul! He's a noble who basically has it all, looks, strength, charisma, money his personality reflects that, makes him childish, prideful etc. But despite being the type of person he is he dropped everything, his whole life actually and dedicated everything to both norn and finding his family... He put his faith in Rudy to help aswell which is why he said he'd look for him last! Because to him Rudy wasn't a normal child and let's face it. His intuition was spot on asf, Rudy was not normal!!! Now as for his treatment of norn and Aisha. The man barely had the strength to show any favouritism. Aisha always tried to outdo norn because Aisha herself always felt like an outsider because really and truly she's an illegitimate child, and while they were staying with their grandmother she treated them veeeerry differently, showing norn more care and attention, which made Aisha more competitive. Norn on the other hand is simply normal. Aisha's mother Is smart and resourceful asf ofcourse Aisha would be brilliant!!! Rudeus is a reincarnator. Norn is like any other child, like sylphie would be if Rudy never trainer her in magic

Now I apologise for the rant but I just want to make sure everything is clear. Paul didn't spoil her, she grew watching her father go through the thick of it everyday! She isn't dumb, most kids would just complain, why they travelling everyday, why are we always on the road... Norn understood the gravity of the situation and thanks to her being an understanding child who can empathise she grew to respect tf out of paul. Then rudeus came and beat the shit out of him. Imagine your older brother you've never seen before coming out of nowhere and beating up this tall powerful figure of a father you've always looked up to. You wouldn't just be frightened and shocked asf, you'd be scared... And actually I've had first hand experience with family situations like that as a child. It's enough to make you cry and hole up for a few days... Then you hear how great rudeus is and how much he's an amazing person when to you he really didn't seem so great from your first encounter. Anyway Paul grew, he changed from a scum of a person to a respectable adult and father... Parenting isn't hard because of the children alone. It's hard because you can't stay the same person you've always been. If your a party person you'll have to stop partying! U can't just provide food and water and leave the maid with the kid, if I got school guess what, you'll have to quit! Unless your bringing the kid with you. It's clear Paul dropped alot of old habits and core personality traits in order to be a better father from the day Rudy was born. He still makes mistake but that's just human. What makes him a great father though is he's willing to learn from his mistakes to better himself as a father and even go the extra mile as to kneel to anyone and put his life on hold in order to save his family! He's not just a good father, he's become a good man, person, etc. Bro didn't even have sex for years until Lilia came back. And having sex was his main addiction, clearly! Other than sword training this man was just about sex and swords! But yes he's supported his family well and done a great job raising Rudy, Norn and even Aisha

    • @dimetri1678

I just feel like you didn't actually watch the show. Paul said it himself he just can't be as calm as rudy is. Especially in highly emotional situations. We can clearly see that. Emotions are a core factor to every personality bro.... You can't expect a man to see his wife trapped in a block of crystal and expect him to keep his cool, you've been searching for years and now she's finally right there. Excitement, confusion, anger, joy all these emotions welling up and you can't even reach her. Ofcourse you'd rush!!! What else was he supposed to do??? Rudy asked for a job and got a damn job! No he didn't leave Norn and Aisha to be raised by the maid and Lillia tf 😅... They all lived together Paul and both the women took care of their kids. Sheesh. Not only that but you make it sound like this man just ups and leaves the house going drinking or sleeping with bitches at inns or out doing some shit? I mean the mans only past time activity is training and ofcourse he has to train cause he's the man of the house, he's got to stay in shape to protect his family... Did you really watch the show?
