I would agree with that. The Z6 crank is a better design and I would take one over a Y8 crank with all else being equal, but it's not like the Y8 cranks are junk.
I have 4 spare Z6 stock complete engines 3 s20 trans an 2 of the y8 trans all for backups incase I blow something but I ended up going with D2B GSR trans now
I just picked up a z6 motor complete for $300 with ecu, harness and a few other goodies for my ef lol maybe I should be selling the crank and pickup a y8 lol
So I am trying to build my sons d15. So dummy me doesn’t know to much about Honda engines. Can a y8 crank fit in a d15 block. I bought eagle rods for a d16 and the rod journals are to big for the crank, duh me?
@@boydfrench4335 a quick wiki search shows the stroke is different so even if it fits you’d need custom length rods...if you still insist on figuring out whether it’ll sit in the journals then you can go search journal diameters of the mains and see if those match up....happy buildin
lol i saw the dude you responded to on fb when u posted all the d series crank you have, and he insisted on the z6 crank lol, i have a built d16y8 with stock y8 crank don't see the issue at all
Is there a horsepower point where you as an engine builder would actively look to find a Z6 crank? For example if someone wanted a 900hp capable single cam, would you feel comfortable still using a Y8 crank?
At high rpm d series oil pumps aren't the greatest and cylinder 4 doesn't get as much as oil as it should. y7/y8 cranks with the one oil journal don't give the bearing the oil it needs. With that being said you can have turbo builds with a y7/y8 crank but at high rpm like 8500+ you wont be getting as much oil in your bearings as a z6 would provide.
@@Thomas-ql7ml exactly. It won’t provide as much oil as the z6 but absolutely does not disqualify a Y crank. Every person asking this fucking question winds up making sub 500whp and running around all over the place asking for this fuckn crankshaft. And again I would use a y crank at any goal but highly doubt the D is the platform I’d be turning to to try and make 1000whp
@@VHBEngines Ya I can see the need for a z6 crank over 600+ when your running that high HP and rpm. But I have only seen a small handful of people that made 600+whp. That is not a easy number to achieve with the d series. You are right the y7/y8 crank will still do perfectly fine with builds under 500 hp
I get the feeling you're mistaking why it's necessary. A single Cam that is built for high raving benefits from it, but if you are only building high horse power, then I would imagine it does not become that relevant. Now if you plan to go to the race tracks on a hot day, and rev your car to 8500 RP m's for 25 minutes straight, that lubrication starts to sound really good. If you're just doing highway pulls, and Drag Racing every muscle car on the road, then no, you do not need it.
the z6 crank is more of a plus than a necessity
Exactly!
I would agree with that. The Z6 crank is a better design and I would take one over a Y8 crank with all else being equal, but it's not like the Y8 cranks are junk.
So you haven't got a z6 crank then 🤔🤣🤣🤣
I do. Bout 300$
Lmao. I remember back in d-series.org that was what everyone wanted and they’d go like cross state to go pick up one and shit
Fuck allllllll that lol

I remember when u first made this video I watched most of ur d16 vids and still try to learn more from u about single cams
Bro, can i use Y5 crank to recplace a Y8? It's dame ****?
Y8 forsure is the better route
Single cam for life!
Especially now
I just picked up a z6 motor complete for $300 with ecu, harness and a few other goodies for my ef lol maybe I should be selling the crank and pickup a y8 lol
Indeed
@@VHBEngines I'll pay you 600 for z6 crank 🤤
Go over f23 setups again. I need help with getting to 200hp. I have the ulev motor
Unless your boosting your gonna need the H head

Pretty sure you just answered your own question
@@VHBEngines I think I answered one question. But the main question I was looking for an answer on was, can a y8 crank fit a d15 block?

Tell them lil kids bro
Make a video talking about b17 cranks . What’s special about them ? I hear they are put in different blocks.
Love a good rant, especially about a engine design that is 25 years behind on tech, and has fucking minimal after market support.
I have a whole engine! Lol
lol i saw the dude you responded to on fb when u posted all the d series crank you have, and he insisted on the z6 crank lol, i have a built d16y8 with stock y8 crank don't see the issue at all
It’s easy to be stuck on that idea if your building one. When you build without an end in sight it’s another ball game.
I'm trying to boost my 2005 EP3 civic si as cheap as possible, and I already have a K-pro. which turbo and controls should I use?
Is there a horsepower point where you as an engine builder would actively look to find a Z6 crank? For example if someone wanted a 900hp capable single cam, would you feel comfortable still using a Y8 crank?
I don’t ever see me doing a sohc of any kind where I say “I should find a z6 crank.”
