Vladimir Horowitz is my teacher’s teacher. My teacher, Alex Fiorillo was one of only 7 students of Mr Horowitz. I’m privileged to have had Mr Horowitz sit in on several of my lessons while he visited Alex
We always think of Horowitz' prodigious speed and strength, perhaps never matched by any pianist in history. But it's the extraordinary range of colour and the infinite control of dynamics, as well as the breathtakingly expressive phrasing that make him truly sublime.
Yes. I grew up with the idea that Horowitz had the best technique in the world at that time. However, it's all about tone control and color. I look at his playing totally differently now, from that perspective.
Come on Simon! Stop telling The Big Lie=Horowitz the Greatest Pianist! The Truth is Horowitz not the Greatest!! Better more colorful beautiful piano sound than Horowitz=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy!! MORE POWERFUL Louder than Horowitz=Mikhail Pletnev The Most Powerful Loudest Pianist Ever!!=( Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!! Pletnev the Nuclear Bomb Powerful!) More Genius than Horowitz=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Maurizio Pollini Grigory Sokolov Alexei Lubimov Stanislav Igolinsky!!
Perfection!! I have just started looking at this piece again after a failed attempt 30 years ago. I’ll never be able to play it properly. It’s an exercise. But Horowitz makes it sing like no other performer on UA-cam. It’s the way he balances the voices and gives it a delicate yet powerful energy. Beautiful!!
There were others, many others. But could any of them bring you to tears of joy listening to them or watching them as Horowitz could? Few, if any at all could. There was no one like Horowitz.
Love how the camera shifts to his hands at 0:18, and it even fits with the music. It's kind of like how everyone loves how Vader appears in Rogue One. You are introduced to an old favorite in a properly lovable kind of way. It's as if the video is saying, "Here's Horowitz, he was and still always be the greatest" or something. I'm having a hard time explaining this in words here.
I highly doubt that. He likely put forth all his effort into every performance he gave until his death... Do you not hear the attention to every detail in this piece?
this initiated me to classical music when it was on tv in 1986 i for the second time in my life was hypnotized by what i heard i knew nothing alike in music. only hearing the music of liszt for the first time had similar effect on me. such a love, big as the world my good

yes, he splattered the dominant chord a bit, missed a couple notes in the Rh and hit g# m chord at the top of the scale a little messily, AND WHO CARES! I loved this performance when it was broadcast!
The usual Horowitzian mess. This is not really such a very difficult piece to play completely accurately. As well it can be played in much better taste,As usual he is so vulgar,so self-indulgent, robbing this great music of every shred of dignity.Revolting!.I have heard students play this much better. In fact I play it much better myself..If I may say so.

That’s awesome though
That's epic !
Wow🎉
How lucky you are!❤️🎹❤️
Holy moly, do you know much about this piece? Would love to talk about it if you’re keen!

Simon Ubsdell yes I couldn’t care less of speed in a pianist

Beautifully stated and describes Horowitz's playing perfectly....the word color is a great way to describe Horowitz's playing, a real true artist!

The second Loudest Hardest Hitter of the keyboard was Lazar Berman!!
He's got an INCREDIBLE touch on the piano. I wish there were more musicians like him alive today...
This is forbidden today . Didn't you know ?
If you have not already, look up Daniil Trifonov. Sergei Babayan is wonderful as well, but he does not have as many things up on UA-cam as Daniil.
But we have lang lang hahaha
Aall Pprr Lang Lang is way too over expressive. I prefer Valentina Lisitsa or Evgeny Kissin
DBD P4nda i hate lang lang interpretations btw that was a joke
Non of us should ever let any of his interpretation go away. This is music for the ages

I think you can and will.
One of my favorite Rachmaninoff pieces to play, although I'm only into the second page! Horowitz inspires me!
Incredible dynamics
00:47 best section of the piece
Wow. The most magical hands ever possessed by a pianist.
There were others....................................

@@grubbetuchus There were many like Horowitz, but very few have recordings that survive to this day.
Unglaublich!!!!!! Er verzaubert mich einfach immer!!!!
0:32 this change of colour...
I adore this transition to the relative key so much, it gives me this 'Rachmaninoff-feeling'...
most people at his age would be shitting themselves in adult diapers, but horowitz is wowing millions of people with this his virtuosity

Funny you think that. I actually heard a bit of vader's theme in the middle section
This is the face of a man who has worked hard all his life, knows for a fact that he's the best, and doesn't give any more shits
Horowitz was a humble man full of culture and poetry, not a pop music employee.
I highly doubt that. He likely put forth all his effort into every performance he gave until his death... Do you not hear the attention to every detail in this piece?
1:40 those basses, wow
The most astounding reserve note in history.
Omg
He’s so old that he can’t really move his body around much, but his fingers can somehow magically move faster than most humans!
Perfection. And what an inspiration, too. Music is something that can be mastered and enjoyed as long as we breathe. I love this so much.

I love that man
HOROWITZ= GENIOUS AT LIFE!
Happy Birthday Sergei Rachmaninoff!!
It's great!
beatiful!!!
I love the interpretation of Nelson Freire
But with Horrowitz
I hear smooth butterflys
Warmth
Depth
Pain
Sorrow
And grief
Its like
Taking away
Far away
On a breeze
Quelle Brillance ! Quel Eclat !
God hands
Bravo
Incomparable, nobody else even comes close.
I like Horowitz but I love Richter!
The action on Horowitz's piano was extremely light, which enabled his lightning speed. I wonder if Steinway sells a Horowitz model.
he also got an instrument 'like no other'
Another great contemporary pianist played this at the Royal Albert Hall...but Vladimir Horowitz's playing this hit me much harder..
Shivering
Only him. The Master!
❤
Horowitz plays always a big piano here many pianissimi j don't understand if j don't see Horowitz what is it ?
E' unico e resterà UNICO!!!
horowitz genius
The proof that flat finger style does work!
It does, when someone is genius 😅
Just difficult
Oh my goodness
Hermoso!
The best version. A real dream...
Chopin op.32 are not preludes but nocturnes

A monster
amazing how his hands bqrely move😅

Maybe he could wait a few seconds after the piece ends before grabbing his handkerchief and wiping his nose.
Is it me or does he really miss these important notes at the end of the crescendo in 1:28?
and 1:34?
Dank Memes i listened to it while watching the sheet and i think he doesn't miss anithing
Dank Memes maybe just some notes played with some imperfection
I just compared it with the sheet and I agree that he didn't really miss anything
