I gotta be honest being able to beat in 50 sounds so nice lol. Backlog is insane and with metaphor in October it’s nice to have a “shorter” jrpg. Even though 50 really isn’t short. This game just looks so beautiful like it’s super fun to sit back and relax and play.
imo 75 hours is perfect for a game examples: Dragon quest 11, Persona 5, The legend of heroes games, ff7r, ffx etc etc most of these are around 75 hours
I didnt like the demo, but the opening hours felt like a ps2 rpg. That is the biggest compliment I can give a modern game. Having a blast with the game.
i was a bit iffy on the class system (due to certain weapons being locked to classes like great sword to Val's wind) but if maxing that class gives the freelancer class access to those abilities? FCKING HELL YEAH!!!! FF5 FREELANCER WAS ALWAYS THE BEST KIND IN ANY JOB SYSTEM!!! oh this game just got so much better for me.
It does all MP cost skills tranfser over the always ON skills like Increased Str by 25% etc ONLY stay in effect in that job so only Moves/Abilites/weapons transfer in between jobs the Passive skills that automatically work after spending the EP do not.
After being 16 Hours into the game and watching a lot of reviews, this is the review i can 100% confirm with everything you said. I felt absolutely the same while playing (and still playing) through it.
Great review! I'm glad to see this new Mana game is just what I'd hoped for and people are enjoying it. Wanted to get it on launch but I have to wait another month or two.
Im not too huge into mana. Playing Seiken Densetsu 3, and just now for some reason im getting reviews for Visions which i had no idea was coming out, and yet so soon. Good to see it looks like fun, and looks like theyve ironed out the issues with the trials remake as well.
I have watched alot of videos regarding this game and your review is great. will pick this up for sure as it reminds of like final fantasy X my all time favourite game
Great breakdown and review, Gen! Now I understand why you haven't been streaming! Been busy with a review copy. 😅 I look forward to giving this one a try a little down the road. I'm currently doing my first playthrough of FFXV, playing FF1 Pixel Remaster with my daughter, and working my way through the Rebirth plat. So it may be a good few months before we get to give it a try!
The moment I stepped into Elystana with a floating water bubble above it and an amazing architecture I was like "Yep, this is one of these hidden gems, isnt it?" I absolutely love the game and alongside FF7 Rebirth and Metaphor it's one of the best titles this year and its pity its not as popular. Btw, we, jrpgs fans, have been eating so well in 2024, you love to see it. Great review, cheers!
This is one of the most expensive stretch of games ever. Black Myth, Outlaws, Frank Stone, Astro Bot, Space Marines 2, and Mana! I’ll just eat beans n rice.
Yeah I’m definitely getting this. Lot of vr games coming to PlayStation in October. Astro bot is almost here. Still playing ff7 rebirth and just started black myth. Whew! Fourth quarter here we go haha
There is an encounter in the floating isle on the West side of the island that has a rare chance to spawn a Shadow Zero. That might be the one enemy you're missing. It's on the west side, above a set of stone steps about a quarter or so ways into the map.
Fantastic review, definitely buying this after work today. I've been looking for another JRPG to grip me the way the tales of series has and I think I've found it.
Can you give me an idea of how this game compares to the story and pacing of DQXI? I feel like that game was the best JRPG I've played in the last decade. Most other modern JRPGs I just end up mindlessly retreating into my nothing-box while playing. If DQXI is a 10, what would you give VoM?
I'm hoping there's some dungeons like mana fortress and ice palace types from the original, I'm on the second continent and none so far, I am liking the game so far though.
I am loving this game it's built on everything that the previous 3D remake did. It does all of those things except smarter and better. Everything looks better everything plays better the systems are better everything is just good. This gets me excited for the next game already because if they made this much progress between that game and this game I can't wait to see the leap to the next one. I noticed you praise the exploration aspect and I also enjoy it I just don't think there is enough in the world to reward you for exploring. There just isn't and that's just the fact and reality. Finding another chest with a material in it or the elemental stuff is okay, but other than that there's really nothing to make you want to explore other than you just being curious and enjoying the world, which isn't a negative thing I'm not criticizing that I just wish there was more interesting things to find in the world. Imagine exploring a random area on the side of a mountain when you discover a dungeon that has a few tricky enemies and maybe a boss fight and a really good gear reward in the end. There is none of that in this game and I would love them to add that into the next one. I'd also like more rewards for exploring and I don't just mean gear I mean lore or just I don't know any fun thing that they can think of. There really isn't much reward for exploring and I would just like more incentive to wander off. Exploration is fun because the characters are fun the combat are fun and the maps are beautiful. My incentive to explore is that. My one major fear is that they will continue to cater to the new fan instead of the old. They had a decent balance here but it's clear they want new fans to the series, which is good and needed but I'd also like a little bit more effort put into the longtime fan.
How did you change your vessel and weapon with the “Freelancer”/“Onion Knight” mechanic? I couldn’t figure that out 100%. I maxed 2 elemental plots and could figure out the abilities part only.
Hello. I have reserved the game too, but the normal edition, I think in like 11 hours I will be able to play it. What is the best mode to play the game for you? Performance or Quality? Thank you very much in advance!

Also, is there enough Grizzly Syrup and Niccolo Coins in the game to buy all the items you can only get with those, such as the permanent stat boost items from the demo and all the move seeds?
My playthrough got me to max out just one elemental plot, I’d guess a new game plus would be enough to max out all of them. And yes there is enough of the coins and syrup to grab all the items if you go out your way to grab them all

@@GenesisVIIthank you so much for answering my question! 😳 woah I’m shocked because they don’t show anything of this games villain I’m even more so excited to play!!
I find the combat system pretty bad. To many unseen attacks, alot of pauses when using magic, lock-on sucks cuz if you want to swing the camera just for a quick look. Your pulled off the mob you are fighting.
I think I would've prefered the art style of like octopath traveler over this. I think Dragok Quest XI looks better than this and it's 6 years old by now. I think this looks too much of a mobile game in terms of graphics maybe. Like genshing impact and that make this seem a bit cheap I think. It's nothing I feel like I have to play. But I'd really like to have a game similar to those mentioned to sink into.
The story to me is strange because you are guiding your companion on a pilgrimage to her death just to sacrifice her for the good of all life. Pretty interesting they went towards that direction in terms of the plot.
I'm a mana fan but I passing on this my reasons are the demo I couldn't shake mobile vibes from it also they closed the studio the day it came out so screams cash grab to me and im assuming none the issues with the game will be fixed do to studio closing so what have we learned dont trust mobile game companies making console games and also don't trust the Chinese 😅
I felt the same when I played the demo also, but starting from scratch in the main game and building up along with it, I found it actually complimented what’s capable in combat. But that’s just me?
Had so much fun with the first secret of mama in the old days of gaming but this looks a bit too childish that I don't want to play it. Nothing about the game, it's just me getting old :(
Ive never played a mana game but i bought this tonight and i was only able to play it for like 45 minutes because i have to get up really early but so far i like the combat... im enjoying it... but personally i think its very strange that they made the main character look like a woman... its a dude but this character was obviously made to look like exactly like a woman in every single way. Its not like every other japanese game where the dudes kinda look girlish in the face, no... this main character was designed as a woman even though its a dude... its weird
Just beat this game a few weeks ago. It’s mid. Very disappointing. Exploration and story were good. That’s it. This game has one of the dumbest elemental systems ever (Fire beats Water, but also Water beats fire). 👎
I’m a mana fan. And this isn’t what I wanted. I’m clearly largely in the monitory on this. But it’s not the direction I want this series to go. Coop? Generic action rpg vs isometric pixel game? ( could have done hi res pixel graphics) Lastly … the design is… I just can’t.
Can’t wait for this game. I finally platinumed FF7 Rebirth just the other day, just in time for this game

Do I need to have played the previous ones to follow this one along?
Nope! Every title is a standalone title
@@tyrecarmon20 great, thanks!
The only question I have is does this game have an actual villain? Because only thing I saw close was the benevodans which were in the trailer
Yes
@@GenesisVIIthank you so much for answering my question! 😳 woah I’m shocked because they don’t show anything of this games villain I’m even more so excited to play!!
Releases 8/29 in the USA. Can’t return something not out yet🤓
I loved trials of mana so much but the character design for this puts me off. I'm on the verge about buying it or not
Can you select the difficulty at the start of the game?
@@TriangleSmooth yep!
AFTER WUKONG U CAN BET YOUR ASS IM GETTING THIS GAME THEN NEW ZELDA AND DQ GOOD YEAR TO BE A JRPG FAN
Thank you I been pondering on buying thius
Hope you enjoy it!!
what stopped u from the platinum!!!
I believe it's bugged
@@GenesisVII Thats weird
I just want to know: Is there post game high level content?
Yes
@@GenesisVII thank you!
yes lv 74 for the Post game HARD mode trophy but unless at lv 99 I won't attempt hard mode even at the START of the game.
i cant do the 1 minute battles platinum breaker :(
The story to me is strange because you are guiding your companion on a pilgrimage to her death just to sacrifice her for the good of all life. Pretty interesting they went towards that direction in terms of the plot.
Well all I can say is they tackled it nicely
@@GenesisVII I know I miss those types of creativity in story in games. Especially back in the snes Enix days with games like Terranigma.
LFG!!!!!
Are there any superbosses in the game?
Yes!
Without a spoilers - can you get happy ending in this game?
@@mystic865 oooo tough one. Yes.
Does it have mini games?
@@mrmaximum1001 Nope
What are the missabls?
Can you get a chance to play yet I was sleeping I'm about to jump on it right now after I finish this video
Nah, I loved every minute! But each to there own!
Is the music good?
Really picks up after the first 2 chapters. Some real epic boss themes also. I play a part of it during the outro
@@GenesisVII im asking because im a huge fan of hiroki kikuta composer of secret of mana . I was wondering if he did a great job
Got it after hearing your first sentence, lol
💪
I tried the demo and the controls were too sluggish for me
I felt the same when I played the demo also, but starting from scratch in the main game and building up along with it, I found it actually complimented what’s capable in combat.
Its not like every other japanese game where the dudes kinda look girlish in the face, no... this main character was designed as a woman even though its a dude... its weird
At last!!!!
FINALLY I REAL GOOD REVIEW GAME SPOT ARE A HOLES
I’ve not seen gamespots review I guess it wasn’t great?
Cross-platform progression?
You can transfer a PS4 save to PS5, that's all I know
@@GenesisVII thank you 🙏🏾
How many bosses
Many bosses, I'd have to go back through footage to find a number
its a generic hand holding rpg but its good
Just beat this game a few weeks ago. It’s mid. Very disappointing. Exploration and story were good. That’s it. This game has one of the dumbest elemental systems ever (Fire beats Water, but also Water beats fire). 👎
Only 50 hours? Sad
I don’t think it is
@@GenesisVII that's what you said, but with new game + and extra difficulty I think it goes up
I’m a mana fan. And this isn’t what I wanted. I’m clearly largely in the monitory on this. But it’s not the direction I want this series to go. Coop? Generic action rpg vs isometric pixel game? ( could have done hi res pixel graphics)
Lastly … the design is… I just can’t.
didnt like this game. I traded it to gamestop today.
But it's not out yet?
Horrible bait bro
I got mine yesterday at my local Shop XD
@@svenbernhagen6320 😂
I missed thengolden age of jrps from the 16 bit era. This dont come close for me.
