Brilliant. I remember listening to this after Steve moved from Radio Luxembourg - does anyone remember his Batman themed opener on 208? I then followed Wrighty onto R1 afternoons and then to Radio 2. After they replaced his Big Show, last year, I stopped listening to BBC radio and have joined Bruce & Mayo on GHR. RIP you legend.
I was two at the time, so don't remember this, but later on in the decade, and ever since, Steve has always been there, and I'm missing him so much. So much music I associate with him, and so many memories. This feels so intimate, like he's speaking just to you. He seemed so sweet and funny and young. I wish we'd had the last 18 months of his afternoon show. Thank you so much. I'm glad I could listen to it. I'm happy he was there💕
There’s no doubt about it : no contest : nobody will ever hold a candle to Steve : he was the master of upbeat disposable radio : Steve was the MALT on a shelf of blended cheap whiskies : Steve is simply irreplaceable : but thankfully due to media nowadays we can all pop in and get a little fix of Steve : thanks for uploading , really enjoyed hearing Steve at his best. RIP
This was when Radio 1 was a really great radio station to listen to. If Radio 1 still sounded like this, I would still listen to it today. I stopped listening to Radio 1 in 1993, after the Matthew Bannister purge of the station.
sat night staying in and listening to this in 1980 must have been way better than staying in 2024 on a sat night and listening the utter nasty bilge playing on Radio 1 now

With a break in the 90s would be at the beeb for a long time; loved listening to that.

Same here, Radio 1 was destroyed by Bannister, no station since has come close to how good Radio 1 once was.
