The fact people are recognizing Horvitz's voice for Moxxie first is so fucking bizarre, Invader Zim is THE Horvitz role, it's the thing that made Vivzie want him for Helluva Boss in the first place, Moxxie himself is just a modified version of Zim's character with the same general character design shape.
TRUE! There was some invader clip uploaded onto tiktok and a majority of the comments were saying stuff like “the guy wearing pink sounds like moxxie” it infuriates me

Yup, and it was unfortunately one of the main reasons why the show was cancelled, the budget was too big for Nickelodeon to justify paying for it. Then they started to broadcast Invader Zim at weird hours to slowly kill it off and get it cancelled. There were also some controversies here and there with the show because it was so dark, but the budget for it was the main reason it was discontinued.

@@xavierjuno4572 The problem with that is that Nickelodeon was being really ruthless to shows that were not pulling in the same numbers as SpongeBob was (SpongeBob was essentially Nickelodeon’s measuring stick for success). Invader Zim was very successful and popular, but when the views and ratings stopped reaching the threshold that Nickelodeon demanded of it, it got canned. Many other good shows suffered the same fate as well. So I fear that even if the budget hadn’t been particularly bloated with Invader Zim, it would’ve eventually died off anyway because it was nowhere near as watched as SpongeBob.
@@Nastyn1nja808 They’re really good and really funny. A lot of people can’t get past the edgy, 90’s goth aesthetic, but I think they’re pretty enjoyable. People think the comics are a glorification of gore and 90’s apathy, but it’s honestly the opposite. The comics MAKE FUN of the entire sub-culture and the hypocritical way of thinking of these people that think they’re being unique and different, but really are still a bunch of sheep.
The creature in the jar at the beginning of Dark Harvest is Filler Bunny, a character from Jhonen Vasquez's earlier works. Filler Bunny exists only to fill space and his suffering is eternal.
It does give off a Helluva Boss style because Viv’s artstyle was inspired by this show. And yes, Zim is voice by Richard Horvitz, who also voiced Moxxie

Don't get me started on that. Like Vivzie I too was influenced by Invader Zim. While working on my comic series that renovated from old Invader Zim fan comics I drew as a teenager, I found out Viv was a fan of Zim. So when I heard Moxxie's voice, I was a tad jealous that she got Horvitz to work for her.
But in reality it just gives me a small goal to work towards.

Richard horowitz was a very prominent voice actor in the late 90s and early 2000s. Invader Zim and Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy being his most well known roles
Zim's voice is so iconic, when I hear it all I hear is either Zim or Kaos from Skylander.

This show DEFINED my tastes in dark and surreal comedy.
- Zim is indeed voiced by Moxie’s voice actor Richard Horivitz who also voices Billy (Billy & Mandy), Grey Matter (Ben 10), many more while Gir is voiced by Rosearik Rikki Simons
- The whole using germs 🦠 killing aliens is a reference to War of the Worlds🛸
It seems pretty clear that Invader Zim was a great inspiration for Vivziepop's style, especially when looking at the imps in Helluva Boss
Invader Zim was so unique and popular, a lot of showrunnners took inspiration from it in one form or another, I'm pretty sure, though it's not always as obvious as it is with Helluva Boss

I'm pretty sure that show also influenced Vivziepop's style on Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss about as much as Invader Zim did and it's just such a great watch, it's hilarious

I don't know who read that comic book and thought it would be great for him to make a kids show but God bless that person

Jhonen got to create Invader Zim because of his comic series "Squee" which was a spin-off of Johnny The Homicidal Maniac.
38:35 Please, let me clarify. This was not on Nickelodeon. This was Nicktoons, the Nickelodeon reject cartoons: The Ren & Stimpy Show, Catdog, Angry Beavers, Catscratch, Avatar, The Mighty Bee, Ah! Real Monsters, Three Delivery, KABLAM!, and so on.
These were all HUUUGE staples of my childhood.

25:33 Fun Fact: That rabbit in the jar is special!!. It's a reference to the comic books of the shows creator (Jhonen Vasquez). It's name is "Filler Bunny" and he was created after his publisher decided to publish his first series compilation. In the books, there was a page for ads and those ads were taken out for the compilation which, in turn, left roughly 8 pages of blank space. Those spaces were "filled" by short stories involving that little pink rabbit. The stories were ALWAYS something horrific.
Fun fact Mark Hammel was considered for voicing Zim, but He was rejected for Richard Horvitz, There are recordings of it on youtube.
the darkness and weirdness of Invader Zim makes a lot more sense when you know that the creator was previously known for a comic series called Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, about a guy named Johnny (or Nny) who oscillates wildly between suicidal depression and homicidal rage at the drop of a hat. Extremely violent, gory, darkly humorous, and also very sad and even philosophical at times. It spoke to the hearts of a lot of angry, depressed teenagers.
The hilarious part is that Nickelodeon really thought they could keep Jhonen Vasquez under control. He kept pushing the show darker and darker and they wouldn't let him do it, but he snuck quite a lot past them. There's a lot of off-screen deaths and mutilations, an instance of a single frame flash of gir covered in blood (sounds like a creepypasta, but it's real), and a child in an orange shirt named "Nick" being killed in retaliation for having to sanitize so much. Some of the bizarre non sequiturs (both visually and in dialogue) are basically red flags that a bit was cut and rewritten.
I love this show. I discovered it when I worked at blockbuster back in the day 2007-2009 right until they closed. The writing is so good and the humor is really clever.

I still remember the first time I saw this show, when the first episode came on following something else my brother was watching while I was in the room. I took one look at the art style and said "that looks so much like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac it has to be a deliberate rip off." and then there Vasquez was in the opening credits, leading to me shouting "NICKELODEON GAVE JHONEN VASQUEZ A TV SHOW?!?!?!" and startling the dog so much she fell off the chair.

You guys unearthing all these classic cartoons is seriously taking me back to my late-night rerun days. 🤩 If you're looking for suggestions at all, Disney Channel used to have a show with a vibe I'd associate to this called Zombie Hotel.

Invader Zim was and still is one of my favorite childhood cartoons! Everything about it was so different from other cartoons within the Nicktoons lineup at the time. Especially given the dark humor of it and the fact that it was about alien was another reason why I loved it so much. Now you guys gotta see Enter the Florpus also the Grim adventure of Billy & Mandy.
I love how with the Halloween episode, we go straight-up Hellraiser/Silent Hill/Event Horizon.
It's also funny how Dib's first thought is to go to the person he's been antagonizing the whole time, and Zim basically tells him to **** off.😂

I love Invader Zim. It was one of my fave shows when I was younger and it still is. I enjoy Richard Horvitz’s voice. He’s one of the reasons why I love Moxxie so much. Love Zim so much! Gir is one of my fave characters too. I can somewhat imitate his voice.

I never gotten a chance to watch invader Zim until it aired reruns on Nicktoons network but THANK GOD I did not watch dark harvest as a kid😅. Zim still hold up for me being Iconic as one of the most impactful dark sci-fi shows on a kids network channel.

This is for sure one of my favorite shows ever. Such a hilarious contrast to most of the other shows nickelodeon aired in the early 2000s.
The episode where zim steals everybodys organs was wild as hell.
Or when zim makes a friend but the friend turns out to be too creepy and clingy so zim has his eyes removed and replaced with some kind of robotic eyes he made that allows him to issue orders to the boy.
Dark shit, amazing show. I can't believe some of this made it onto a kids network but given the true nature of Disney, nickelodeon, and a decent portion of America's population, I can't say I'm surprised in the least bit.

I love this mental show so much, and the movie that Netflix released like 15 years later was actually so good too! But gotta say Dark Harvest freaked me the f out as a kid, and the pimple one I couldn't watch
