The Bills have a great foundation, but they need to upgrade DE, CB, Safety, and IDL. A trade might be needed as part of the plan. If we are going to beat the Ravens & Chiefs next year, we need DEFENSE. Josh and the offense can give us 30 points as built now.
Defensive EPA in our KC playoff games: -0.27, -0.25, -0.38, -0.47. Idk how anyone thinks we're close when we have a defense that doesn't seem to function at all vs top QBs. I ran some stats and prediction models using EPA/play, it predicts that if the defense does better than -0.225, we win. The worst defense across the season was Carolina at -0.14... -0.225 is not asking much because it's terrible, but we are worse than terrible and can't even do that. I don't think we get rid of this scheme without getting rid of McDermott. We can limp by with Allen heroics, struggling against coaches that run circles around ours, but we can't do that and also have a completely ineffective defense. Time to try something new, it's hard to get excited knowing that our only shot is an extremely unlikely streak of luck.
If they want to play nickel and 4man rush, they need the personnel for it. Give me a killer pass rusher to play opposite of Groot. Give me an 8-sack guy opposite of AJ. Solomon as a 5th rotational situational rusher. Give me a mansion of a dude to play 1T next to Ed. Give me another mansion to play next to Carter and Phillips. I’m not 100% on a guy like TB, I would love a better run stopper with some more size but a heady guy like him next to Milano and/or Dorian isn’t the worst. But there has to be absolute units lined up in front of him. Taron is a key, give me a speedy man guy opposite of Benford. And I like the potential of the physical ball hawks of Bishop and Rapp, just need them healthy.
Mack Hollins outperformed and overachieved every expectation so whoever was “ripping Mack” is confused or something cuz every team NEEDS a Mack Hollins kinda guy. I hope we lock him up for at least next year cuz I guarantee his agent’s phone is blowing up
My feeling is they should shore up the offense if the right guys (speed receiver) are available but they really need to focus on improving the defense. Teams moved up and down the field with ease, often not even reaching 3rd downs, and when they did get to 3rd downs they picked up the first down at a ridiculous success rate.
We're missing a SG. Allen is the PG. You need that SG sniper in the last 20 seconds of the game to get you that corner 3 point shot to seal it. SG is the deepthreat. Hopefully we find one this off-season.
Ant I appreciate hearing a little bit about criticisms of the scheme, which I know you don't want to go too hard on but it's been driving me crazy to watch us keep running it back without a proper 1 tech, small guys everywhere, and in a scheme that struggles to be dynamic enough to slow processing for good QBs. It seems to mostly wait for mistakes while being extremely safe vs the pass. We have trouble integrating some guys in general and having backups step up anywhere but the DL, could that be a complexity issue? It might be cool to do a scheme/archetype show that goes into what makes different schemes tick, what players they're looking for, and explains why our team focuses on the player types that it does. Could have some solid reach for fans in general.
The venn diagram of the Bills’ WRs is just 2 separate circles named Lumberjack & Shifty Dude. All the while the Deep Speed circle quietly rolled away w Smoke Brown. MVS was supposed to be that answer…
To make ourselves feel better, we are building up KC to be this unbeatable force. I just think the Bills defense has been bad and if they were not getting turnovers they failed to get stops all year. I do like the methodical offensive plan resulting in time consuming drives keeping opponents off the field...that has been their best defense.
Bills D has been extremely bad in all our losses that matter. 5 playoff games where the offense can't make any mistakes because the defense isn't even slowing the opponent isn't acceptable. It's a miracle that we had a chance in two of them.
been a fan since 72 .. This has been one the top 3 seasons the Bills have ever had . 90, 91 , and this year. it is hard to win SB . if your team makes the playoffs you have a 7% of winning it. getting slow close is heart breaking still
If Kincaid would have been a super star we would have been set this year. It’s very important that he develops this off season. I worry about his mental makeup
You mentioned scouting Michigan players - is it just me or do the Bills not consider Michigan players? As a fan of both teams I always wonder when the best available player at the Bills draft spot comes up they never seem to pick them. But they love Penn State and Pitt guys. So is it all about the relationships that Bean/McDermott have with college coaches?
There’s a difference between happy and content. I am happy the Bills are a top 4 team nearly every year, I am not content with it. There’s still need to be more. The Chiefs were this annual playoff team BEFORE Mahomes. A QB got them over the hump. Bills need to make that step
Couldn't agree more but I kinda get why people are looking for positives when we're going to run it back with the same coaching staff. They're not gonna get it done so the coping is necessary for people who try to stay optimistic.
Groot and Oliver are solid, the rest of the DL is average or worse. I love Milano and Bernard, but undersized LB are constant injury risks without big bodies in front of them to eat up the OL before they get to the second level. CB Benford is a stud, Douglas is past his prime, and his lack of athleticism killed us at times, Elam should be gone, maybe we could get a 6th for him. S again a lack of athleticism, love Damar but he is a reserve level player, Rapp can't stay healthy, I think Bishop has a bright future, and adds a much needed dose of athleticism. Offense needs a field stretching WR. ST Bass seemed to figure out his issues, that's a bonus. ST coach needs to be replaced, if for no other reason than have a different set of eyes on the Bills struggles. I'm happy with the rest of the coaching staff. The OC and DC with a full season under their belts, will lead to better decisions next season.
Appreciate the show. Lots of Offense talk. Sounds like we need prime Lee Evans. Id consider trading Kincaid. That said, the Bills Defense needs improved. How to do it? IDK.
We also can't ignore injuries. No matter how good a player is or how much effort, if he is frequently off the field due to injuries he is a waste of a roster spot. I feel like the Bills are small in a lot of areas on defense so maybe that equates to more injuries.
Here’s a stat if the quarterback coach combination doesn’t win a Super Bowl in the first five years they never will will. McDermott Allen are in a year seven???
@ You'll have a lot of fun with the tape. Imagine pairing Ed Oliver with a slightly bigger version of Ed Oliver, although he was a little lighter than I hoped at the Senior Bowl. But I think he'll end up as a top 15 pick. But look forward to the tape of the Ole Miss defense. they got some dudes on every level.
3.33 that’s the time Josh Allen had to win the game. Allen just isn’t clutch. Sean McDermott sphincter Tightens up. Brandon Beane needs to draft impact players. Bills fumbled five times and recovered all of them so they’re really lucky.
I think Elam is getting too much hate from this game. I don't think there was anybody in the secondary that really had a good day. Maybe Bishop, maybe Milano those are the only two guys I can remember not getting horribly beat. If there's any flaw I see it's not having Elam play more in the last, like 3 games of the season that didn't really matter.
Crazy idea. Trading James Cook (what?!) for Maxx Crosby, and then draft a RB in the 2nd round. You reset to a RB on a 4 year rookie contract, and you get a difference maker at DE. I suggest this with no disrespect to James, who I think is great. Crazy idea.
@@SuperiorAllah Drafting a pass rusher should be part of the plan. However, we drafted AJ Epenesa, Boogie Basham, Greg Rousseau and none turned out to be Maxx Crosby. Tough to draft an elite pass rusher.
Bills fans get duped by beane like do with democrats, he says the same shit every year says all the right things that are just GMisms. Blames everything from refs to injuries but never his own drafting

We're missing a Bruce Smith like player on defense and a Reed like receiver on offense.
Gotta let Cook be Thurman as well!
Or a James Lofton type deep threat too.

I think a guy like Stefon Diggs would fit that role perfectly, and he’s a free agent!
@@TaylorMcChaneyThat's a joke, right?
I'll pass on an older WR with an ACL
Please tell me Beane hits on a late first round game breaking D linemen of any kind. Thank you

Why not just draft a pass rusher? Better yet, send Epenesa and 2 draft picks ( 2nd and 6th) for Crosby. Make Cook the number 1 option on this offense
I’d rather pay Cook I have faith he would have a bigger impact on our team then Crosby whom I’m a fan of but Jimbo does deserve a decent contract here
If this was possible, I'd sign up for it. As much as it would pain me because I also really like Cook and his style and fit in the offense - Anthony
