Literally NO ONE could stop this man one on one. Forever wishing we could’ve seen him and McGrady play a few fully healthy seasons together.
Edit: my family got to see the back to back Hakeem Championships. I was born in 96 and grew up with Yao and McGrady among others like Shane Battier, Louis Scola, Chuck Hayes, Rafee Alston, Aaron Brooks, and then eventually Dwight Howard and Harden. Love my Rockets and the legacy from Calvin Murphy to the 2023 fellas that are next up. Sengun, Green and VanVleet🚀
Those are guaranteed chips right there.

I already think he is, along 15-20 greatest centers oat
Shaq himself said if not for injuries Yao would be a Top 5 center all-time. And it's next to impossible to see Shaq give props to other centers. That's the highest imaginable praise coming from one of the stingiest when it comes to compliments.
If not for injuries, Yao would be the greatest.
People have already forgotten how good he was. I saw an idiot compare Zach edey to him. Zach edey looks like a guy who just learned basketball
he is one of the greatest. he is HOF
As a Houston Rockets fan who watched NBA games since the early 80’s I think Yao was on the verge of becoming an unstoppable force when injuries ended his career. This man would’ve went down as one of the all-time greats. He was an awesome player and a gentle giant. Thanks for the great memories Yao!🎉

Yao Ming's mid-range was so pure that his pump fake from 12-18 caught many defenders. Growing up I wasn't a Rockets fan, but I miss watching this guy play.
What is mid range and pump fake?
@@andyng5321 Mid-range shots are any shots outside the key (painted area near the basket), but still inside the perimeter. Pump fake is when the shooter acts like he's about to shoot, but does not release the ball. Basketball players do this to get the defender up in the air. When the defender is in the air and lands, it gives the shooter time and space to shoot uncontested.

This man bodied Kevin Garnett, Dirk, Tim Duncan, Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Ben Wallace, and both Gasol brothers. No one else can say they did that.

Hakeem probably would too and it makes sense cause you can tell Yao studied Hakeem’s footwork and both being 🚀🚀🚀, it’s amazing to see skilled big men who don’t have to rely on power and strength as often

This man’s quickness, agility, footwork, athleticism, and all around skill for someone who was 7’5-7’6 was absolutely ridiculous. If Yao stayed healthy he could’ve been one of the most dominant players to ever play the game. Up there with Wilt, Kareem, and Shaq.
He absolutely is.
With today's load management style, Yao could've easily stayed healthy for at least another 3-4 seasons
If I’m building a goat team, when it comes to center, I’ll take whoever in the first 3, but in the 4th, I want angry prime Yao Ming. Lol.
You forgot to put Hakeem among these greats
@Deviunn Yao is listed at about 7'5 or 7'6 but when u ask players like shaq they always felt yao was a bit taller. I willing to bet he is closer to about 7'8.
7:30 people who don't know about old school basketball won't know how great this was. The respect that NBA gave to Big Ben was huge.
He made Wallace look like Allen Iverson
Man I feel old feels like I watched him play just yesterday
Forreals lol i didnt even realize it wass ben because yao makes him look so small
when he was playing, I feel like people thought he was just tall. now he is a certified NBA legend
Bro this guy is a pure beast man.
Yao would have at least 1 ring were it not for injuries. The 2009 Rockets team was one of the best of all time, including the championship squads and the 2018 Rockets that took the Warriors 7 games. That season, Tmac got injured before the play-offs and Yao carried them past Portland in the first round. It was then on to Kobe's Lakers, and he was having his way with them. Then he got injured... and the Rockets led by Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks still managed to take Kobe 7 games. I have no doubt with a healthy Tmac and Yao, the Rockets wouldn't have lost more than 2 games all play-offs.
@@nahor88 I actually wish Yao was a little smaller, like maybe 3-4 inches shorter and 30 lbs. lighter. He would've lasted longer, and he would still have been dominant with his skillset.
@@back2back379 he wouldn't last long even if he was smaller, China worked him to much into retirement.
@@back2back379 30 lbs lighter would’ve made him a literal stick and it wouldn’t have allowed him to play as physical as he was. Look at Manute Bol who was 7’7 but ridiculously underweight for his height and because of that he had more blocks than points because he couldn’t play bully ball on offense. If anything Yao could have gained 30 more pounds and would’ve been more dominant. He wasn’t underweight but he definitely wasn’t fat or ripped.
@@back2back379 For example Shaq was 5 inches shorter than Yao at 7’1. But he was 14 pounds heavier than Yao and was one of the most dominant players to ever play in the NBA in his prime.
Look at Yao, so inspirational.

He makes 7 foot guys look like a point guard. Lmao.
And he can shoot free throws, with good post moves, behind the back dribble, sky hook, fade away, good mid range jumper.

He's probably one of the most enduring >7'5" players ever. Its very difficult for a players that tall to maintain even a moderate level of athleticism and health. For him to play at the level he did and for that long is remarkable on its own.
Yes, it's difficult. That's why Yao broke his foot all the time.
@@TheEchoeman The real miracle is how you don't break your foot walking out on your driveway carrying that much size
Yeah I've seen players as tall or even a bit taller than him here on YT, and every last one of them is so damn slow and uncoordinated that they would be forever relegated to their high school's JV squad if not for their height. The fact that Yao could perform spin moves with legitimate grace is just insane. Not to mention how smooth his jumpsuit was.

2:06 LoL, wtf was Andre Miller thinking?! Dude can barely jump over a shoelace, how tf he expect to dunk over a 7'6" center??
Do u remember when Nate Robinson blocked Yao Ming....nba is a place where anything can happen...so who knows..Andre Miller could have succeeded...but unfortunately the great wall stopped him
@@beko466 Nate Robinson is one of the most athletic players in the history of the NBA. In his prime, he had a 43.5 inch vertical, which is among the top, most impressive, and highest verticals in the history of the game. Andre Miller is a completely different story. He was never considered a particularly explosive or athletic player.
Moreover, Nate Robinson is the only player to ever win the NBA dunk contest 3 times, which is a testament to his exceptional leaping ability. Whereas Andre Miller, in his 16 year career, barely has any memorable highlight dunks. I wouldn't expect Andre Miller to dunk over an average forward, much less Yao Ming, who's one of the tallest players in NBA history.
@@beko466 we can't compare Miller with Robinson. Compare him with someone like Khris Middleton
back then if you dunked on Yao you are in a special club. lotta people deliberately tried to dunk on him whenever they had the chance
@@fycfyc1 Yeah, that's true, but Andre Miller believing he'd be able to dunk over Yao is the equivalent of Dwight Howard believing he could win the 3-point contest. It's just not his forte. Miller's leaping abilities are less than stellar, to say the least. I doubt the guy has even dunked more than 15 times in his entire 16 year career.
Of course you expect high flyers like Vince Carter, T-Mac, Jason Richardson, Desmond Mason, and Josh Smith to try. I'd even expect smaller guards like Baron Davis, Steve Francis, and Antonio Daniels to try... but a guard like Andre Miller, who lacks the athletic abilities of the aforementioned players, expecting to dunk on Yao is a nice, little fairytale.
In fact, Yao was also excellent at international basketball games such as Olympic and FIBA. He once led the China national basketball team to enter the top 8 at 2004 and 2008 Olympic Game respectively. He's one of the most excellent big guys in the world in history.
