  • Dozens of tornadoes have been leveling towns, closing highways and cutting off power throughout the Midwest since Friday, and it's been revealed that at least four people have died from the severe weather front. Twisters ripped through Holdenville, Oklahoma on Saturday night, with officials confirming this morning that there have been four fatalities, including one child. Flood watches and warnings are in effect Sunday for Oklahoma, one of the hardest hit states, as well as Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas. Hughes County Emergency Management confirmed the deaths in Holdenville, one of them a 4-month-old baby, on top of 14 homes being damaged or destroyed and 100 people suffering tornado-related injuries. The search for trapped or missing individuals in the town started Saturday night after the storm left the area. The four-month-old child, who lived in a house that was reportedly destroyed, was among the people authorities were looking for. The child was found and taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. As authorities assess the damage to Holdenville and other towns that were struck by tornados, the death toll is feared to increase as the day goes on. #nebraska #tornado #extremeweather

    No one lost their life in Nebraska, and there were only a few minor injuries. Credit for this is due to the excellent early warnings and extensive storm spotters reports.

    I grew up in Western Nebraska and we never stood outside and watched tornadoes nor did we drive on the roads to look at a tornado. Are these people crazy driving next to it just to get a look or take a video? I am amazed by the lack of common sense of people thinking nothing will happen to them.

      Some of these footages are done by professional storm chasers. It's their job to film, spot, and watch tornadoes. It's for research purposes and to help meteorologists get a more accurate location of said tornadoes during the storm and to study them after they're gone. Storm chasers have really helped a lot in the field of weather study.

    • @kingpetra6886
      @kingpetra6886 16 днів тому +1

      No they are not crazy. Starting in the 1970s even before there was all this digital videos people starting to chase tornadoes. Their vehicles were crammed with instrumentation. What came out of that was doppler radar that could detect the change in direction and speed of the rain. As a result of this many towns and ringed themselves with sirens for tornado warnings that are accurate. As cameras shrank and became more affordable it was only a matter of time before John Q. Public learned how to chase these things just like the pros. But before those days people were a lot more leery of going outside during stormy weather.

    Used to live in Elkhorn (West Omaha) off of Maple a couple years ago. I know exactly where this hit in Elkhorn. Some amazing footage. Wow, that was a big tornado.
    Had numerous tornado warnings during my years there, usually late afternoon's into the early evenings. Worst were in the am when you were asleep. Nothing like a
    tornado siren waking you up at 2am running around trying to get your sleepy kids and dogs down to the basement.
    I know with everyone having a smart phone, it's cool to see some of these videos. But those twits standing by their window videoing it as it goes by, close enough to send
    everything next to their home into the next county were just plain STUPID!! You NEVER stand by glass during a T Storm or Tornado. One of those flying objects could have
    flown through the window and killed someone. I was raised as a kid to respect Mother Nature and not be stupid. Those people are very fortunate their house wasn't destroyed.
    My thoughts and prayers are with my fellow Nebraskan's.

    I really feel for these people. I have lived in Florida all of my 71 years and have never seen a hurricane destroy so completely as these tornados do in under a minute. There is no comparison. We get some very strong hurricanes here and the occasional small tornados, but nothing that levels a home in 30 seconds. I live in a 2-story wood frame home and have never had any damage to my home even with powerful, direct hits lasting hours and hours. When homes do get damaged, it is usually because of tree falling against a house, but this is 100% preventable when you keep the trees trimmed correctly and don't plant trees with shallow roots. Flooding can be a problem is very low-lying areas, but these areas are avoidable. I also live on a small lake, but the drainage plans have been very effective when dealing with large amount of water. However, our low-lying coastal areas do experience devastation, but they get plenty of warning time to vacate.

    • @gemini6828
      @gemini6828 16 днів тому

      I'm from Omaha and now live in Pensacola. Haven't experienced a hurricane yet. But I hear people at work talk about the dangerous tornadoes they get here in Florida and just chuckle.
      The other thing that I find odd here is when we actually had a tornado warning over a week ago, no one knew about it. No sirens. Finally had an alert on our phone 20 minutes AFTER
      the warning had apparently started. What a joke.

    people need to stop buiding and developing in the plains states. those states are for growing crops. not living (and one winter there would tell you that). Tornadoes have been prevalent there for eons. I do not think there is an increase in storms, there is just an increase in people and effect.

      Nah, it's because of the rocky mountains, Gulf of Mexico, and Canadian air. All that mixture of heat, cold, dry air, and humid air can make some serious storms.
