“We are like family…” Meitei-Kuki students under one roof in Ukhrul for NEET preparations

- After ethnic violence in Manipur for a year, Lok Sabha elections concluded successfully for two seats. The north-eastern state has been marred by clashes as parts of Manipur remain tense. However, a story of hope has come from Ukhrul, where students of both Meitei-Kuki have come under one roof. 37 students from different communities are pursuing their dreams at ‘Assam Rifles Centre of Educational Excellence’. The students have been preparing for the NEET Examination as they aspire to become doctors. The young aspirants called themselves ‘a family’ and lauded arrangements made by Assam Riffles at the center.

Im from the kuki tribes and have a lot of meiteis friends which i still talked to till to these days despite the communal violence and one thing we know is that peace between the two communities is an impossible task unless both the communities are granted what they’ve been demanding since the start of the war

sad thing is so called hao will get selected with less just 300 marks while their meitei friend ( whom you called a family) need more than 500 to get slected

one question to all under ST quota. how is it fair when every student who got selected under quota studied the same coaching, say comet or meci or even better aakash and kota but somehow the hao get previlage and the meiteis dont. dont say economic difference, majority of meitei are also daily wagers. and dont tell meitei live in imphal, many meiteis are from underdeveloped places.???? give me a good reson or we can all agree some community enjoy undeserving previlages for centuries now ?????

Got your point. But will those few numbers decides the factor of the other students. Statistically those students with greater capability are only 1% would be absurd to undermine the 99% due to that 1%
We can grade between tribes as well . We can still give more advantage to the more backward tribes within Manipur but got the same previllage outside Manipur . We should talk rather than having a senseless argument
