Totally agree on the balance. I use 50-140 on my XE4 and it is fine as well. It is very nice compact camera that is very enjoyable. I am happy that Fuji doesn't differentiate the main sensor by model so that I don't have to force myself to get a bigger body for better sensor - I am done with bigger body when I ditched Canon DSRL couple of years ago after using it for almost 20 years.
Hi Andrew, great to see another of these videos from you and thanks for putting your own unique spin on things as always. I’m an Fuji X Weekly subscriber too, there’s so much work goes into what Richie does and I’m glad to see you linking with him. You know what made me smile the most here? Seeing how your kids are growing, I love when you include them in what you do ♥️📷😁
Good video summary of the X-E4. I thought about it a lot. 3 things kept me away: your 2 points (no ISO dial and only 1 card slot) The other thing is no WR. So, I saved up my pennies and got the stellar X-Pro3.
11:59.... yes!!!!! Lots of Videographers and filmmakers hate the floppy flappy side hinged screen too. The only people who demand it are Chris from dpReview (he mentions it every time) and other UA-camrs.
For me, the ONLY failing of the X-E4 is the stock ergonomics and the unprotected LCD ribbon. I put a sticky front grip on it (FlipBack G4 specifically) and a thumbrest in the hot shoe (Hoage X100V rest or LM-XE3 both fit excellently). Other than that, it is the Fuji camera that I've been waiting for since I had my first X-E2 and X-T1 bodies and thought "the X-E2 would be PERFECT IF they just put the X-T1 flip LCD on it!" I feed my family with my cameras and I've sold my X100V, my X-PRO3, X-E2 and X-E3 and now am super happy with an X-T30 and two X-E4 bodies. (They are only slightly larger than my very first Fuji X...the X20!) I shoot mostly Aperture Priority. Always AutoISO up to 12800 min shutter set to 1/40....usually -1EV and always RAW. The aperture ring on my lenses controls my key choice, well more than enough buttons and dials left to quickly access anything else. If I'm mounting a MF lens, I just take the time to set the MSC choice to M (have to chose the focal length in the menu anyhow when 'shooting without lens.' If I've got an AF lens on, it's set to AF-S. I've had 18 of the Fuji X Bodies since switching completely from Nikon in 2014. Still have 6. I'm OK now if they never make another new body as long as I can always pick up an X-E4 and put my XF35/1.4 or XF10-24/4 on it. :) Good to see more Fuji Camera content from you. Even when we slightly disagree. Keep doing good and well.
@@InboxJYP I have owned an X100 (original), an X100F and finally the X100V. I TRIED to love them, but the X-E4 does everything they do (other than leaf shutter and built in ND) that I liked about the X100 bodies but I can also use any lens ever made on it with the right adapter. I actually prefer the 27 and 18 to the fixed 23/2 as a focal length.
@@RavenPHD Sorry...just seeing this...not at all. I tend not to shoot in driving rain (and I have an umbrella if I HAVE to.) Some of my lenses and my X-T3 are 'WR', but I look at that as mostly marketing. I've been shooting professionally off and on all around the globe since 1985...arctic to desert to my beloved boreal forests here at home (though never in a Jungle...in a Jungle, YMMV) and I've never once lost any piece of kit to 'weather' related issues. Clean your kit if it does get splashed with rain/snow/dust/mud...keep the salt water off it as best you can and you shouldn't have any more problems than I have.
Here's why I think the smaller battery is not a disadvantage: Extra batteries are easy to bring, and swap in like the magazine in a handgun. I'd rather have a set of 5 or 6 batteries in my pouch pack waiting to go, than have the extra weight of a larger bulkier camera in my hand all day. If I can offset some of that bulk elsewhere for the caveat of having to reload every few hours, then I'd take the lesser wrist strain any day. I like to keep my cameras in my hand, so every extra gram matters. So to me it's a non-issue. Unless I'm doing hours of a locked off time-lapse in the freezing night or something, but at that point get a cabled dummy battery hooked up to a larger power source, since you're going to be hanging around for a while. That's my two cents anyway. ✌️
The W-126s is from 2016, battery technology has evolved. I believe they would be able to increase capacity by 30% while maintaining the same size. I find It mildly infuriating having to bring a bag when ever I need more than one spare battery.
@@arvidjohansson3120 I always have a little hip pouch for my camera anyway, but the batteries are no bigger than my car key fob. I could stack a couple in a pocket if I needed to. It would be like bringing a bag for a pack of gum.
I mean you’re adding $200ish more to the price of the camera by carrying 5-6 more batteries. I think the next big step from Fuji is better battery life to only carry one maybe just another back up one in your pocket
@@shuttersounds__jpg the bigger batteries don't equal double the juice. I'd still end up carrying 3-4 rather than 5-6, plus they'd be more expensive, because of the new redesign. Also, more batteries means if one drains in camera because of cold weather or something, the others in the bag can keep me shooting longer, because they were warm.
@@-grey well in 99% of cases a bigger battery does mean longer usage time. I’ve never seen a modern bigger camera battery not outperform a smaller camera battery ( except those a6000 series camera batteries). If Fuji or any other brand that produces high end apsc camera improves battery while keeping somewhat the same features per cost they will be king
Enjoyable as always, Andrew. Love your passion for these things. CC was always my one and only film sim. Your take on ISO being your primary exposure adjuster is very interesting. I’m in the set it and leave it camp, but as you say, whatever works for us. Guess it depends on what you shoot too. Not so much the noise (after all Fujis have good noise grain anyway) I’ve always been concerned with loss of DR and colour as ISO increases - hence why it’s always been my last thing to compensate. But for documentary, street style, higher contrast shooting these things are less of a concern. So glad you haven’t given up on the photography vids completely.
I loved the xe4 despite its compromises. I could toggle the the front dial between iso and shutter and I liked the flip up screen. Ultimately tho I sold is and got a xs10 as it made a better b cam to my xt3.
- The X-E3 has the same nub at the back. - I absolutely love your idea of sticking big lenses on the body. - I'm sure you can shoot raw+jpeg on the single card - the X-E3 certainly can - but maybe at a lower rate? - I, too, miss the second dial on the X-E4 - I am missing IBIS. Badly. When the X-E5 has one, I'll happily upgrade. I do not mind the size nor price increase.
I nearly cancelled my pre order of this camera after some reviews. So glad I didn’t, it’s my fave Fuji to date. I find even my xpro2 feels massive now. I put my iso on front dial and have no issues. I never use shutter speed, just aperture and iso . 👍
Finally a new video from you! It always seems you're a very happy family! Really love to see you having fun and enjoying time together! I wonder how you found the grip of the X-E4, especially with these 2 big lenses.
I totally concur with changing ISO and in fact I'm a huge supporter of using the Auto ISO settings on Fujifilm Cameras. Auto ISO based on high and low value + shutter speed is how I roll and being able to store 3 different Auto ISO settings that are easy to swap mid session makes my life super easy when doing events, weddings and street photography. It allows me to focus on capturing the moment and approach each shot creatively. In fact I think the ISO dial needs to be expanded to include the 3 Auto ISO settings you can make without having to also use a control dial.
Totally agree, auto ISO is great. With modern cameras I just don care about ISO, noise is not an issue for me. Just check what you can accept, set that as the highest in the auto settings and forget about it 😄
@@AndrewGoodCamera Seems to me - since it wasn't mentioned in the video and you made such a big deal about the lack of a physical ISO control - that you had overlooked this feature until it was mentioned here in the comments.
@@AndrewGoodCamera i think what he is trying to say is that you can set both iso and shutter speed adjustment using the front dial. It is a dual purpose front dial where if you click the dial, it will take you to the other mode(as you want to set it).
I see. He thinks I should have called out the press to toggle ability. To me that's as a fiddly experience and hardly better than a dedicated function for ISO and shutter and no better than the swipe functionality, which I also didn't mention, but which is equally as fiddly. These are just my opinions. Others are welcome to theirs.
Vey nice review, I just don't share how you feel about the lack of ISO dial and how many other photographers complain about these kind of details. To me these kind of things are just sort of implicit if you are getting such a small camera body. I know you are aware of that cause you are a very smart and measured photographer and reviewer and you even mention it somehow in your review but I don't know... I just bothers me when people complain about these kind of things, had to say it. Still I get these kind of complaints or feedback are useful for camera designers in their way to perfection but man we have so many close-to-perfection tools nowadays, we have had them for decades. Still, thanks for sharing and those are lovely and great images as always.
According to the x-e4 manual "[FINE + RAW] Record both RAW and fine-quality JPEG images." is an option. It'll just get saved to the one card. That's not too bad, right?
I have the X-E3 and that’s how I’ve been shooting so far. It works, but I have to say it sometimes isn’t convenient. I’m not a professional by any means, so the way I love to manage my photography is using Lightroom in my iPad Pro. It’s highly enjoyable to me, but the way import works in Lightroom makes it hard to only import RAW files to Lightroom and JPEG to Photos, which is what I’d like to do most of the time.
@@thomasbdl The way I do it is copy the whole SD card to a folder, then type ".jpg" or ".raf" into the search field in windows explorer and work from there. Not ideal, but it works well enough for me
Found the ISO easy to access via the top button. To ensure sharp images, I was pleased to see the capability to fix the minimum shutter speed in the auto-ISO ´presets´, which I have arranged for different lighting situations. If time allows for greater control, I will switch off auto ISO to my needs. The camera grows on you with use and becomes a breeze to use, especially if you're not switching from one Fuji camera to another constantly. I also use Sony and was surprised that my A7iii isn't as malleable as the Fujifilm when it came to the capability to set the minimum shutter speed for imaging in auto ISO mode.
Needs a grip and even a 3 axis stabilization would have been very useful Just use auto iso and use the exposure comp dial, as you said. Are you really going +/- 3 stops?
I hope you end up doing the 18mm that just came out. I would love to see your comparison to the 16. I picked my copy of the 16 up a couple months ago, it’s great.
Hello Andrew, thank you for your efforts, and I value your opinions. Coming from the Fuji X100F, I just purchased the EX4. However, I don't miss the dedicated ISO dial, as I found it difficult to read the small numbers on the dial, especially under lower lighting. It slowed me down. So, I used the Auto ISO Ranges, setting my maximum ISO values there, and not worrying about the noise. It is actually faster to work this way. And as you stated, the low noise quality of the sensors has helped to mitigate the slight quality loss in the higher ISO's. You value the ISO dial experience, I get that; me, not so much. And that little focus dial on the front: too fiddly for me. I don't trust my muscle memory, I need to actually see where that dial is pointing, requiring me to look at the front of the camera, so I find the Q menu is where I want to go. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your experience.
Hi, nice review. I don't know how it in x-e4, but in other fuji cameras with single sd-card you definitely can shoot raw+jpg. Both will be stored in same directory
I totally agree with your difficulty with the lack of ISO dial...but you can set a swipe custom function to change ISO. I have mine set to swipe up, and I find it incredibly useful :)
For me it boiled down to the XE4 vs XS10, IBIS and ergonomics aside, I got a second hand XS10 for $900 (vs $200 more plus tax for the XE4) so it was a no brainer... and got rid of my EOS RP ASAP
I am new to the Fuji system and recently purchased the X-E4 and I’m very happy with it. However, I do understand why many are unhappy with the amount of customizable buttons.
Having the X-T30 I wonder why I would want this one instead. The footprint seems quite similar - and also the price (2$ difference here..). But with slightly more knobs and dials. Something I've missed..?
You do have a dedicated ISO dial on the x-e4, it's called the "exposure compensation dial." With ISO set to "automatic," and aperture and shutter speed on "manual," your compensation dial will allow you to adjust your ISO. Of course, it does not allow you complete access to all ISO values, but it does give you + or - 3-stops, which for most situations will be enough to compensate for changes in lighting conditions.
Very nice photos. I’d be all over this camera if it didn’t have a shallow 17.5mm eyepoint. The only Fuji camera that works for me with eyeglasses is the X-T4.
Same here. The XE2 is better if you want a lightweight alternative. I found an XT with XE was a nice combo. The XE2 has a superior EVF and imho is superior in every other way body-wise. Just a bit slow with the old Fuji lenses and only 16MP.
@@wuokawuoka you can’t see all the edges of the frame in any of these X-E_ cameras without moving your eye around, that’s what I’m talking about. If that works for you, great.
You mention sending JPGs "straight to social media, straight to my mobile phone." That would be an option if the Fuji Camera Remote app worked; it rarely if ever has. Fuji should be embarrassed. But congratulations if it works for you.
Fuji X weekly. Pay for it. It’s totally worth it. Love it. I got an XT1. Love the way the sensor looks and it’s only 16 mp. Works for what I shoot. I was thinking of an XT2 but was afraid of too clinical sharpness happening. I’m use to shooting Delta 100 in my film rangefinders and the XT1 mimics that. I love though that Fuji keeps progressing. That 16-80 f4 is wonderful.
I‘m a new viewer-just discovered you exist, this evening! Thank you for this review. Now I‘m off to see more of your content since I am a newcomer to the Fuji scene (just bought an X100 off of craigslist) and may switch to Fuji from Canon for my other shooting needs. Keep up the great work! 👍🏼
I’m using an xe3 and super happy with the extra dials comparing to the newer version, and also the much better ergonomic handling. The only thing I wish now is just a tilting screen 😞 it would be soooo perfect
I had the X-E3, the flip screen on the X-E4 has got me shots that I could not have got with the X-E3. No amount of extra buttons will do that and THAT is what matters for me!
The no back dial is such a shame IMO for how i use my camera. I got the X100v as my first fuji and i have the ISO on one dial and the shutter speed on the other and it works great for my style of shooting as I prefer full manual and not auto ISO. But I'm kinda certain you can push the front dial in to change the setting? therefore you can have SS on the front dial and then when you want to change iso you push it in to change back and forth is that correct? If so i feel like i'll get by fine and i'm actually gonna buy one of these cause i want to try different lenses. I just don't know if I will sell my x100 - even though I should - cause i've loved this camera so much.
I just bought an X-E1. I think I prefer the ergonomics of that model with the bulkier grip. But I bought it to try out the first generation X-Trans sensor. Not shot a lot with it yet, but looking forward to the experience :-)
I want a “carry everywhere” Fuji system as I am hating smartphone photos and XT2 + 35mm is currently my smallest kit. XE4 with 27mm is compact but seems a definite quality step down from x100v and XT2 is going great with all other lens where XE4 size advantage will be negated due to the larger lenses anyway. Even thought about Canon G5x but i feel then i might as well use the phone as the Fuji experience is what is making difference to me. A smaller X100V would be perfect and maybe that is what i would go for though I prefer longer focal lengths (35/50). Currently decided just to carry around my XT2 + 35 lot more
Ik this is an old comment but how is the XE4 a step down from the x100v with the same sensor and same lens. Fuji sells the same 27mm lens from the x100v separately.
I am contemplating upgrading from my X30 (2014) to my first ever interchangeable. It still works and I really like it, but I feel limited by the 1 inch sensor. This is great info. Thank you.
Actually your X30's sensor is a bit smaller than 1", so if you decide to go APS-C you'll really appreciate the increase in resolving power and the flexibility it allows not to mention DR, etc. BTW, I still have my X30 as well. What a great camera! I won't compare to my current Fuji's as it's not very fair to do so, but for an all in one package it did (does) a fantastic job.
I think you could have the dedicate ISO button with some software update. You should be able to push the front dial, and each time you push it, you change from ISO to Shutter speed and viceversa. I mean, some devices uses one or two quick pushes to use one unique button to more than one option.
I would love a camera like the X-E4 only geared towards pros: - Dual cardslot optional - High durability materials on top and bottom plate - ISO dial - As much buttons as they can cram in so we can customize the shit out of it - Flippy screen optional, as long as it's flush -> A compact, beautiful work-horse (or pony :P) that just does the job while looking stylish, aging with a nice patina and not weighing too much or intimidate clients by being a 'high tech professional camera'. Compact retro for the win! If we get to have this dream, then next on my list would be the X150 series that is basically an X100 with a 50mm equivalent lens on it. A PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS DREAM :-)
I have the x100f with sticky aperture blades and won't close down to smaller apertures often enough to be really annoying. So I now leave it at f2.8 and use ISO as my exposure adjustment.
If you don't need the flippy screen get the X-E3 which offers a front AND back command dial AND the focus control switch M to A on the front for a fraction of the price.
I totally agree on the lack of dedicated ISO. If they had just made this based exactly on the x100 platform with an interchangeable lens ability. Perfect. I suspect that did not build into the marketing/sales approach because they would have likely got hammered on a “lack of innovation” so they dumbed it down with the advantage of price point possibly.
Would somebody care to explain why you would need to have 2 card slots? I use Fine + Raw and that saves them to the same card on XH1. So I guess something else is meant here.
@@blake.farrell the way it's presented in the video is that you'd need two slots to shoot RAW+JPG. This is not true for other Fuji cameras. I can shoot RAW+Fine on the X-S10 (one card only) and the same for the X-T3 even if the 2nd slot is empty.
@@blake.farrell Yes, that, or there is some magic useful workflow that I am not aware of, that needs two card slots for some reason. I was hoping for the latter ;) Always nice to learn :)
I don't set ISO, I use an Auto ISO range and the Exposure Compensation dial to change ISO. Many of the issues people have with the missing MCS dial can be solved by using back button focusing. I didn't use the MCS dial on my X-E3 either.
Flip touch screen is the big difference. You won't notice the AF much unless you shoot video and need Eye tracking. Honesty, the X-T2 is still top of the line in terms of image quality, it is slightly better in low light having 24mp, and the only thing I miss on mine is not being able to take flip screen selfies with my gf, and not being able to touch to focus/shoot on the street. Outside of that the upgrades are so minor.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have shutter speed and aperture in manual and ISO on auto. The exposure compensation dial will basically be a ISO dial. Or am I wrong? I have a x-t1 and it's soon time for an upgrade and I'm falling in love with the x-e4.
Hi Andrew ;-) what about the EVF on X-E4? I´m kind of hesitant, if it´s still enough. In a lot of reviews it is not addressed almost at all, but I expect it to be definitely a difference compared to the bigger ones on x100v or x-t4. Thanks for thoughts ;-) keep up the good work. M.
Nice perspective. Seems to have a few compromises, focus selector and ISO dial, but otherwise nice compact camera. For me my XT3’s remain in use and are perfect for a stills photographer. Many people with opinions on what a camera should or should not be have themselves little to no field experience and frankly are easily ignored. As always really enjoy your videos! I know you’re shooting with the GFX but do you still have your XPro3?
I am a stills photographer and prefer the XT3 screen (perfect for low angle vertical and shooting from the hip type of shots) even though I have the XT4. Wonder why this screen design is only available on the XT3?!
Great video! I’m a little confused about not being able to shoot RAW+JPG, I have an X-T20 and it can do that, so I assumed the X-E4 could as well, does it just not allow it?
i have to agree with everything you've said i'm an XE loyalist and i have both the XE1 and the XE2 (and an XT10) my biggest problem of this camera is the lack of back dial. i can tolerate the lack of buttons. the XE3 buttons are already perfect. they just had to mess it up i use vintage manual lenses 80% of the time, but i can tolerate the lack of SCM switch what i can't tolerate is the lack of the back command dial. i shoot exclusively in manual. i never shoot in auto whatever. so the back dial is very important for me because of the way i shoot; back dial controls the shutter speed (the SS dial is always on T) so my thumb rests there all the time, then, the front dial is ISO (on the xt10. the xe1 and xe2 doesn't have a front dial). the back dial also doubles as my focus check (because, again, i'm mostly on vintage manual lenses) the XE3 was already perfect. they should've just taken the XE3 and place it in the XE4 body
@@random6809 the point is. since it's in the front, i'll have to take my shutter finger and alternate it between the front dial and the shutter release. also, it's so redundant to have the iso and SS on one dial. you need to control them separately. scenes move fast. the split second difference between toggling can make you miss moments. maybe that works for you, but for some, it doesn't. having the back dial work as SS and focus check works because it's intuitive. you don't need to take your shutter finger off the release, while your thumb controls the SS and focus check
@@riverpb5250 You are you manually adjusting ISO and SS for scenes that move fast? Bit odd when you can let Auto ISO with its minimum shutter speed setting to do it for you. You sound like you are making your life way too difficult!
Im looking into switching to fujifilm from pentax dslr. Ive been researching and really cant decide on whether i should go for x-e4 as its compact or go full out on x-t4. Obviously they are completely different beasts, but battery, weather proofing and many other bonuses sound like might come in handy on every day use. Im planing to use it mostly for documenting family and using it for trips. Please help
About ISO-dial. To me X-E4 has a better solution to this than many other Fuji cameras. Having it on the front dial it's instantly available and fast to change. Working with fixed aperture and shutter speed I don't need to chang the shutter speed in small steps. I change my ISO instead. With noise reduction available today ISO is hardly an issue anymore. I shot some images at 12800 and and they were clean and smooth after a run through in LR ai noise reduction.
Great video, and well done for being honest about the Northrupps. But one slightly misleading, you can shoot JPEG and RAW on this camera, they are just in one location. How much more effort can that be?
Great video as usual, thank you. I have a question, which would you prefer for portrait, street and landscape or everyday shooting photography the XE2 or XE2’s

IBIS doesn't fit into the X-E or X100 lines, you'll have to get the bigger bodies like the X-S10/X-T4 for that. Given the choice I prefer small body and no IBIS.
@@ryankwan1934 The GRIII does not have an EVF. If you look inside the GRII there was plenty of space around the sensor for it to be added to the GRIII. I am sure that if IBIS could fit into the X100V for example, then it would have it!
As an X-E3 owner, I’m a bit disappointed with this X-E4. On one hand, Fuji gave it this wonderful tillable screen that I really miss on the X-E3. On the other, they took away the back command dial and the front focus switch, which the X-E3 has. I use both all the time.
i love this camera so mushhhhhh ❤📷📸
Totally agree on the balance. I use 50-140 on my XE4 and it is fine as well. It is very nice compact camera that is very enjoyable.
Since replying here, I've sold the X-T30 and got a THIRD X-E4. :)
Michael, what has your experience using the xe4 in bad weather been like? Has the lack of “weather resistance” hampered you at all?
Here's why I think the smaller battery is not a disadvantage:
Extra batteries are easy to bring, and swap in like the magazine in a handgun.
Amazing shots Andrew, really
I loved the xe4 despite its compromises. I could toggle the the front dial between iso and shutter and I liked the flip up screen. Ultimately tho I sold is and got a xs10 as it made a better b cam to my xt3.
- The X-E3 has the same nub at the back.
- I absolutely love your idea of sticking big lenses on the body.
- I'm sure you can shoot raw+jpeg on the single card - the X-E3 certainly can - but maybe at a lower rate?
- I, too, miss the second dial on the X-E4
- I am missing IBIS. Badly. When the X-E5 has one, I'll happily upgrade. I do not mind the size nor price increase.
I’m pretty certain too that you can shoot raw+jpeg on the same card.
@@BR04LAN you can

I nearly cancelled my pre order of this camera after some reviews. So glad I didn’t, it’s my fave Fuji to date. I find even my xpro2 feels massive now. I put my iso on front dial and have no issues. I never use shutter speed, just aperture and iso . 👍
Set the ISO to an auto range and use the EC dial.
@@MyHandleHereAtUA-cam yes 👍
@@MyHandleHereAtUA-cam yes. I have different WB shifts on every custom setting.
@@MyHandleHereAtUA-cam happy to help. With the money you save, you can buy another lens 😉
I’m glad you change iso all the time. I balance all three all the time. Did the same with my canon. I need a dedicated button.
Just check what you can accept, set that as the highest in the auto settings and forget about it 😄
Can’t you click the front dial once to switch to iso control? Or aperture etc. on this model.
Yes
@@AndrewGoodCamera Seems to me - since it wasn't mentioned in the video and you made such a big deal about the lack of a physical ISO control - that you had overlooked this feature until it was mentioned here in the comments.
@@rogeryoung3587 I specifically mentioned that you could set the front dial to ISO and the compromises in doing so.
Another dial makes it a different camera. The front wheel is enough, and less work than a dial.
Yes! Looking forward to your color Profile video :)
Same thoughts here!
Not ideal, but it works well enough for me
Just set Lightroom to import RAW files only. In preferences.
@@kevintallant3922 , thanks for the wonderful solution.,
awww the ISO is also a game changer for me. love Fuji cams! my favorites are the X100V and X-T series. :) I still have the XT2.
Hello,
You didn’t talk about the lack of WR system. I think it could be a great combo with the new 27mm WR
That calls half naked style. Like wearing a rain boot but no umbrella.
I love my Xe2, but I miss the dial too.
Needs a grip and even a 3 axis stabilization would have been very useful
Just use auto iso and use the exposure comp dial, as you said.
I agree, photos are really great. And camera, iam so excited, as it goes on my way too. :D
Hi, nice review. I don't know how it in x-e4, but in other fuji cameras with single sd-card you definitely can shoot raw+jpg. Both will be stored in same directory
Made me also wonder. The benefit for me is just to have only the jpgs on one sd when i put this one in my Smartphone
yup, i didn’t understand that either. i always shoot jpg and raw to same directory - indeed i think that’s the default setting if you choose jpg + raw
Yep, the lack I the focus control switch was a deal killer for me, at least for the time being.
I hate it on my XS10, i now have to use up a custom button for it. Dumb move.
I agree just get an XT30 or XS10
You do have a dedicated ISO dial on the x-e4, it's called the "exposure compensation dial." With ISO set to "automatic," and aperture and shutter speed on "manual," your compensation dial will allow you to adjust your ISO. Of course, it does not allow you complete access to all ISO values, but it does give you + or - 3-stops, which for most situations will be enough to compensate for changes in lighting conditions.
Indeed, that's what I do, but the dedicated ISO dial is the front command wheel anyway! You can assign 3 functions to that wheel.
My eyes are bad. My dominant right eye is worse. I wear thick glasses. I need varifocals.
The eyepiece on the X-E3 works like a charm for me.
@@wuokawuoka you can’t see all the edges of the frame in any of these X-E_ cameras without moving your eye around, that’s what I’m talking about. If that works for you, great.
I always shoot Auto ISO and change the min shutter speed depending on the scene. I would love for Fuji to allow the mapping via ss dial...
You mention sending JPGs "straight to social media, straight to my mobile phone." That would be an option if the Fuji Camera Remote app worked; it rarely if ever has. Fuji should be embarrassed. But congratulations if it works for you.
Nothing pisses me off more than that abandoned app
Works for me 🤙🏾
Works fine for me on both my XT2 and XE2 🤷🏻♂️.
Works WAY better on x100v/xt4/xpro3 than it ever did on my old x-t2
Beautiful photos. The colors are great! May I ask what color profile you are using? Thank you
Fuji X weekly.
Besides your great content, T-Shirt rocks.
Great vid mate, been aching for a new vid from you guys! Hope the trip was a blast.
Thanks for thr thoughts. Looks like a sweet little camera!
Very nice video! I agree with Hazard 4.
Why do you not set f-stop and shutterspeed and then control ISO on the front wheel?
Regards Ulf
Auto iso and minimum shutter speed. Its the best way to go because like you said iso dont matter really
Currently decided just to carry around my XT2 + 35 lot more
Same here. My xt1 with the 27mm is my walking around camera. I've loaded some of the recipes from fujixweekly and its a sweet little set up.
I won't compare to my current Fuji's as it's not very fair to do so, but for an all in one package it did (does) a fantastic job.
most of the time I shoot in black and white. and always I set shutter speed and aperture then leave ISO on auto, it works for me !
I been using my exposure compensation alot lately
thanks, does it even make sense to compare it to a xt 30 II ?
17:45 how you denoise the iso in post?
I think you could have the dedicate ISO button with some software update. You should be able to push the front dial, and each time you push it, you change from ISO to Shutter speed and viceversa. I mean, some devices uses one or two quick pushes to use one unique button to more than one option.
i use auto iso with minimum shutter speed and not worried about iso.
i miss the D-pad on x100v...
nice review, good images!
Same here. I use dynamic range if I want grain, otherwise just the auto settings.
I would love a camera like the X-E4 only geared towards pros:
- Dual cardslot optional
- High durability materials on top and bottom plate
- ISO dial
- As much buttons as they can cram in so we can customize the shit out of it
- Flippy screen optional, as long as it's flush
-> A compact, beautiful work-horse (or pony :P) that just does the job while looking stylish, aging with a nice patina and not weighing too much or intimidate clients by being a 'high tech professional camera'.
👌🏼
I love your work Cuckoo!
@@glipglap thank you!
Hi Cuckoo ! Cool to see your comment here!
If you don't need the flippy screen get the X-E3 which offers a front AND back command dial AND the focus control switch M to A on the front for a fraction of the price.
Who needs a floppy screen apart from the narcissistic UA-camrs.
Simply an insurance policy in case you have a memory card corruption
@@blake.farrell the way it's presented in the video is that you'd need two slots to shoot RAW+JPG.
This is not true for other Fuji cameras. I can shoot RAW+Fine on the X-S10 (one card only) and the same for the X-T3 even if the 2nd slot is empty.
@@xjmtx ahh I see what you’re saying. That’s not the case on my X100v either, think it was maybe just stated incorrectly in the video then.
@@blake.farrell Yes, that, or there is some magic useful workflow that I am not aware of, that needs two card slots for some reason. I was hoping for the latter ;) Always nice to learn :)
Can it be a problem to put the iso on the front dial? Not at all. Never change from s to c or m all the time. No issues for me honestly.
I don't set ISO, I use an Auto ISO range and the Exposure Compensation dial to change ISO. Many of the issues people have with the missing MCS dial can be solved by using back button focusing. I didn't use the MCS dial on my X-E3 either.
great video Andrew! How do you think it compares to an XT-2? Without the obvious differences of being an older model, 2 card slots...
Thank you
What's your take on the XH2s and XH2? Not very analouge esque IMHO..
Hello, thank you for this video.
Great video! Love the 16-80 in outdoor situations-really versatile, in a somewhat compact form factor.
Shooting events or street photography :(
I am a stills photographer and prefer the XT3 screen (perfect for low angle vertical and shooting from the hip type of shots) even though I have the XT4. Wonder why this screen design is only available on the XT3?!
Great video! I’m a little confused about not being able to shoot RAW+JPG, I have an X-T20 and it can do that, so I assumed the X-E4 could as well, does it just not allow it?
i have to agree with everything you've said
i'm an XE loyalist and i have both the XE1 and the XE2 (and an XT10)
my biggest problem of this camera is the lack of back dial.
i can tolerate the lack of buttons. the XE3 buttons are already perfect. they just had to mess it up
i use vintage manual lenses 80% of the time, but i can tolerate the lack of SCM switch
what i can't tolerate is the lack of the back command dial.
i shoot exclusively in manual. i never shoot in auto whatever. so the back dial is very important for me because of the way i shoot; back dial controls the shutter speed (the SS dial is always on T) so my thumb rests there all the time, then, the front dial is ISO (on the xt10. the xe1 and xe2 doesn't have a front dial). the back dial also doubles as my focus check (because, again, i'm mostly on vintage manual lenses)
the XE3 was already perfect. they should've just taken the XE3 and place it in the XE4 body
The front command wheel is shutter *and* ISO on one wheel. Focus check for me is on the custom button right next to the shutter release.
@@riverpb5250
You are you manually adjusting ISO and SS for scenes that move fast? Bit odd when you can let Auto ISO with its minimum shutter speed setting to do it for you.
You sound like you are making your life way too difficult!
@@random6809 i'm an SOOC shooter. i never use anything auto. it's part of my style. and no, it's not difficult if you have the XE3/XT10/20 layout.
Please help
Sorry, forgot to mention that it will be my only camera for everything
Also, i understand that additional handle is a must have as there is no grip what so ever, so once you add the grip, it becomes closer in size to x-t4
Can't the exposure dial basically act as an ISO dial if you fix the shutter and aperture?
Have you added a grip to it or not felt a necessity to do so?
Great video, and well done for being honest about the Northrupps. But one slightly misleading, you can shoot JPEG and RAW on this camera, they are just in one location. How much more effort can that be?
Great video as usual, thank you. I have a question, which would you prefer for portrait, street and landscape or everyday shooting photography the XE2 or XE2’s

Oh man, I'm so tempted to go from Xpro2 to this... only because of new in-camera tweaks.
Or wait for Xpro4? Damn.
Dedicated ISO and larger eye-cup would make it a perfect camera. This camera is a Swiss-knife, hopefully they will release the X-E5.

IBIS or stabilised primes please. While I'm being greedy, maybe something GM5-sized.
IBIS doesn't fit into the X-E or X100 lines, you'll have to get the bigger bodies like the X-S10/X-T4 for that. Given the choice I prefer small body and no IBIS.
@@zed351 The GR III has the same size sensor and it's stabilised. They can make IBIS fit.

The GRIII does not have an EVF.
Horses for courses, I swapped from X-E3 to 4 and miss neither the MCS nor the dial. The firmware changes and AF improvements made my decision.
i don’t get your comment about raw and jpeg’s can’t tou shoot it raw+jpeg’s ??
Yeah what a wierd thing to say. All Fujifilm X cameras can be set to Raw+Jpeg.
