Not a bad guide, but I'd hardly call it "complete." There were definitely some glaring omissions, like quick swap tech, or the sweetspots on zard's tail moves (back air is especially brutal), or the fact that Ivy's up special is a great KO move if spaced properly. Also, "spam Flare Blitz" is TERRIBLE advice lol. It might work against people who aren't too good at the game, but against anyone who knows what they're doing you'll get wrecked doing that. Flare Blitz is a great move with a myriad of uses, but it's REALLY easy to punish if your opponent predicts it, which they will if you're just throwing it out willy-nilly.
Quick tip: You can actually change the direction of every fighters recovery. If you’re facing the right side of the stage and want to recover to the left, just hold the left stick to the top left corner and Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard will turn left and recover 😃

Yeah killing with squirtle is hard, but u missed backthrow, which is an option, and up-b, can be used for an out of shield punish. Ivy - down throw neutral air is just wasting a grab at 0, and doesn't work later on, you don't suggest any combos for later % Razor leaf - can be used with tilt side-b or smash-side b. Good to know. Oh, and guess what, it's a combo starter at later %. U do not even mention how good fair and bair are, nor that they are disjointed. Fast fall back air actually combo's into itself at mid % Up-B can't hit a ledge if your right under it, but how do you go around that? Up-b, whatever? This move scares the living shit out of my friends and opponents. Ivy has IMO the 2nd best kill confirm in the game that can start from an average of 80%, and you don't even bother to mention. You can cover a a platform while standing under AND next to it. You can angle the up-b, or reverse it, might come in handy. Bullet seed is mad damage, sure, but you're not hitting anyone with that. F-smash having some range is just a bit cheesy, not actually "good", just a gimmick. Also, ALL of Pokemon trainers smash attacks are kind slow "I think you'll be killing with upsmash" - You think, so you just looked at ivy and went "well this is the hardest hitting move, so you'll probably kill with it". That's like saying Ganon's best killing option is warlock punch. Also backthrow can be a kill-throw, better than squirtle's if I remember correctly. Zard - Yeah upsmash is the weakest, but the fastest out of all the slow smashes he has, and it scoopes from the sides. Downsmash is decent, sure, the range allows you to cover all ledge options. "just use flair blitz" - do I event have to comment on this? wait? Down throw combos into fair? Oh my gosh I've been playing this character so wrong. What's that combo counter? Oh no it doesn't. Even the broken combo counter is showing that it doesn't Nair - what are you even explaining? That if you hit someone from his left that you'll send them right and vice versa? Holy I didn't know that a hitbox does that Your combo throw is back-throw, at low % you get backthrow into fair. Yup, Ftilt is good, also, there's a sweetspot on the end (kinda makes sense, if you hit with a thing on fire it'll hurt more) Back air not mentioned, which can kill ridiculously early UPTHROW is a kill move, you can get a kill at about 150% Oh and for the Ivysaur up-b "problem" you mentioned. UP-B doesn't send you to free fall, you can switch to zard, jump, and up-b afterwards. Speaking of which, you don't even MENTION the switch as a mechanic, it functions as a 2nd airdodge, and can help you recover. And speaking of defensive mechanics, you don't even mentions shielding or out of shield options. Like, really Now to be clear, it's cool that content's coming out, and well, the video quality is good, I'll give you that. But holy what are you teaching, how to play at 10k GSP? For glory tactics? Someone's gonna watch this and what, go and spam neutral B with ivysaur thinking that they'll do "tons of damage"? There's just so much bad info in this video. If you're reading this - don't play like this. Oh and edit: yeah take it as hate, but if you want to call this a "COMPLETE" guide and "BREAKDOWN" - do some research. Or ask somebody to help you out. Heck, DM me if you want
Ah yes, I see what you mean 😂. We just had to be those guys. A good decent part of me wanted to make my last comment cover some of this too but you are a braver man than I friend, at least someone pointed it out.
Huey Sharapova I read that shit, and it seems as though the people above your comment did too. Apparently 108 (soon to be 109) thought there was something useful there too. In fact I would say that as of this moment OP is far more important to me than you have ever been. Too much sodium is bad for your health, and I’m sure all that white knighting won’t get you laid. May be best to just keep your mouth shut. Thanks for the info OP.
What Zard's Up Smash has over his other smashes is framedata. It comes out frame 6, one of the fastest smash attacks in the game. It's also worth noting that back throw is pretty great for comboing. It leads to fair for a while and can even lead to an Instant Reverse Aerial (look up My Smash Corner's Attack Cancel video) back air for super ludicrous kills at like 40. Also, Flare Blitz is suuuupppperr unsafe. Don't spam it. Overall the zard section doesn't look like lots of research was put into it.
@@sirkfcthoThat is completely false, but it is really good for hard reading your opponent and killing some characters at 0%. It is not a true combo, but back throw to back air is.
Up smash has combos? Huh, the more ya know. Also not to mention that up smash is a great move out of shield if your opponent hit your shield very close.

Hey Choctopus! I have a video suggestion: The Best Move for Each Character to Use In Sudden Death Use the sudden death mode under ‘Special Smash’ and find the best possible and quickest-killing move for each character when they are put into that situation.
This is a good video, but you should’ve brought up quick swapping. For those who don’t know, whenever you use Pt’s down B, there’s a bit of a delay before you can swap Pokémon again, but if you use a special you can switch immediately after the end lag of the move. Here are the fastest options: for squirtle, charge neutral b and then cancel it w/shield, for ivysaur, side b is the fastest, but up b only has a little more endlag, so that’s a good option if they’re at an angle where you can hit them with it. Charizards options are all really slow compared to the other 2, but the fastest is flamethrower. A place this is helpful is if you want to go offstage with squirtle, when you’re coming back to stage, jump with squirtle, change to ivysaur, up b, and if that doesn’t get you to stage, you can switch to charizard, use his second double jump, then up b. Just mess around with this mechanics possibilities
That's insane I never knew you could choose your Mon before the battle and swap during battle I thought if you get knocked off the stage you swap Pokémon thanks so much ima use Charizard alot more
Notice that the charizard's up throw is a decent kill option if your opponent is at around 110% or if you are on an upper platform. You can lure opponent's shield with your strong attacks then kill them easily.
I'm pretty sure Trainer Green existed before FireRed and LeafGreen. Also I recommend remaking this video sometime in the near future, to go a bit more in-depth with each of the 3 Pokemon (i.e. talk about each move individually as with other fights you've coverd). And also to correct your definition of DI.
ivysaur side-b > up-b is a good kill confirm near the ledge, depending on matcup actually all the characters have good killing up-b's, although they are punishable
What 3 characters do you guys use most? I use Lucas King K Rool And after watching this I like to use Pokemon Trainer Some of the characters I use when I'm bored of my mains are Yoshi, Bowser and Cloud. (I like all the characters and I use all of them but I use these the most)
I really really want to see Corrin next. I've never played any of the Fire Emblem games (I know, I'm sorry) and I never though I'd main a fighter from the series in Smash Bros., but I recently started playing as Corrin and love how she plays. Of course since I haven't been playing her for more than a few days, I'm not too great with her, so seeing a breakdown of what she can do would be awesome!!! Anyways, keep up the great videos!
There’s a tough kill that I use with charizard it is super satisfying. So when the enemy is at around 90, use down throw them up b. It can be easy to dodge, but less skilled players will fall into it a lot
The video was good quality however I must say a lot of this information is misleading...Ivy’s up special is amazing. It combos from down throw at specific percents and kills near ledge, it applies so much pressure and a great kill option. And Neutral B (bullet seed) is prob top 10 worst moves you can’t move while using it and very difficult to land with HUGE amounts of lag. I understand u wanted to make a short video but you can’t skip actually learning the character. Charizard should NEVER spam flare blitz back air and forward air should be your main kill options. Sorry for the rant quality of the video was great but the info just didn’t cut it. Keep up the good work my guy :)
8:54 think my main problem with this is my friends get angry at me when I do this. They complain that pros see it as a sign of not taking the game seriously. I just want to win for once since I’m horrible but when I finally found something that helped me get better it’s a problem.
coming back to this in 2022 is kinda funny. The advice is so weird. He says Ivysaur Neutral B is a good move and that you should spam Flare Blitz lmaooo
Tip:don’t use flare blitz if you are at a higher percent or when the enemy is still at a low percentage it’s not worth it it does a ton of damage on yourself
Im just always giving damage with squirt then go ivy get short hop with down air spike him above me use up tilt jump up use the height and go up air for finish... And if I die im automaticaly chari and can just give him the rest with side b
XD im already a pokemon trainer main, this is the hardest to main...im saying ot now...you have to main 3 fighters in one with completely different attacks and styles...but yea they are strong when you use them probably. ( also i use ivysour way more than any of teh others...i start as him in battles )
*NOTE TO EVERYONE WATCHING* Directional Influence is not how far you can move after executing an attack. It is the act of holding a direction on your control stick when you get hit by an opponent to be sent slightly more in that direction.
Also dont spam flare blitz and also charizards up smash is good when your opponents on the ledge if they nuetral get up or jump you get hot and die pretty early
Hey Choctopus! Great series, thanks for the great tips! Would you do Mega Man, I'd love to learn how to use the Blue Bomber to his highest potential Thank you!
Hey, I know this came out a while ago, but Squirtles down and up grab lead to awesome kills with up b just another tip I learned maining Pokémon trainer
How cool would it be if you could choose Pokemon trainer and choose 3 Pokemon from the roster to play with like for example I would choose Pichu, Greninja, Mewtwo. Lol but then again it needs to balance the team but it was just a thought of mine probably wouldn't work out though.
If I know I can’t recover with squirrel I switch into ivysaur for up b and if that doesn’t work I switch into charizard and he’ll actually have his second jump and I’ll use that to try and recover
This is what I do: I start with Ivysaur and just stall because why not? I switch to Charizard and do some airs before using FLARE BLITZ! I switch to Squirtle to be annoying
@@icywolfdoneson5973 I know that, it's just that with how fast the switching is I thought there might be combos involving a switch. Start the combo as Charizard, end it as Squirtle for instance.

Hey, love your videos. I also would love to see a more in depth Pokémon trainer guide if you're trying to gauge interest
ivysaur side-b > up-b is a good kill confirm near the ledge, depending on matcup
actually all the characters have good killing up-b's, although they are punishable
Charizard actually has three jumps, the third one being the weakest
What 3 characters do you guys use most?
I use
Lucas
King K Rool
And after watching this I like to use Pokemon Trainer
Some of the characters I use when I'm bored of my mains are Yoshi, Bowser and Cloud.
(I like all the characters and I use all of them but I use these the most)
For me it's
Dedede (should be fairly obvious)
Meta Knight
Ridley
that last one was kind of a toss up between K Rool, Ridley, and Pichu
Ness Mario and g&w
I use:
-Pkm Trainer
-Jigglypuff
-Yoshi/Villager
K Rool, Pokemon Trainer (especially Squirtle) and Ridley.
@@papyrusau9915 G&W?Really? Thats cool
Petition to make Pokemon Trainer a powerful raid boss and just name him Red
I really really want to see Corrin next. I've never played any of the Fire Emblem games (I know, I'm sorry) and I never though I'd main a fighter from the series in Smash Bros., but I recently started playing as Corrin and love how she plays. Of course since I haven't been playing her for more than a few days, I'm not too great with her, so seeing a breakdown of what she can do would be awesome!!! Anyways, keep up the great videos!
i think zards up tilt can combo too i think.
I personally save flame blitz as a KO move. It can KO as low as 75% ive seen so far, depending on how heavy the champ is
There’s a tough kill that I use with charizard it is super satisfying. So when the enemy is at around 90, use down throw them up b. It can be easy to dodge, but less skilled players will fall into it a lot
Thanks for the heart
Thank you so much for this video! This helped 🥰
Flare Blitz was a joke but thanks for the tips.
These are some pretty cool banan- AHHH
Sonic next?
I’m still hoping for Duck Hunt soon, but I think is the next best choice!
I’ll eventually hit every character!
I knew this guide was outdated when I heard him say Bullet Seed was really good
great vid for people newer to smash!
Thank you!
Red's most recent appearances was Let's Go.
You mean Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee is his most recent appearance
Fun fact, if you win, but you used Ivysaur, you still actually lost because everyone hates you
Charizard isn’t the strongest tho and don’t spam flare blitz. Just in case you people didn’t know.
R4!D issa joke
*NOTE TO EVERYONE WATCHING*
Directional Influence is not how far you can move after executing an attack. It is the act of holding a direction on your control stick when you get hit by an opponent to be sent slightly more in that direction.
I made a note on the pinned comment.
As a Bowser main, I found a home in Pokémon Trainer when playing squirtel and charizard.
Nice video I also play this game and also almost i have all the avatars in Smash bros and i have this pokemon trainer
Smash Ultimate: The only game where a turtle can fight a dog
I am planning to use Terry and Cloud as last ditch effort fighters as my strongest but still going to master every Pokémon fighter
Fifteen day after Four 4 Later instead of city Fourwe Do fell feel great cushion For a focus 115678
You forgot about Charizard’s back air. It’s a very strong kill move that does use some practice to get good at.
Pro gamer tip by choctopus: S P A M
Ivysaur’s up B is a way better kill option than you gave it credit for. There are a few confirms with it too
You are fun to watch one of my fav smash youtubers , love your vids , keep up the good work 👌 and could you make a guide video for duck hunt 🙏
Also dont spam flare blitz and also charizards up smash is good when your opponents on the ledge if they nuetral get up or jump you get hot and die pretty early
Obviously to kill with squirtle is to spam fair off stage and then use Up B to kill them
Hey Choctopus! Great series, thanks for the great tips! Would you do Mega Man, I'd love to learn how to use the Blue Bomber to his highest potential Thank you!
Going to eventually get to every character. I have another breakdown going up later today! :)
Hey, I know this came out a while ago, but Squirtles down and up grab lead to awesome kills with up b just another tip I learned maining Pokémon trainer
0:47 recently let go pickahu and eevee red was in
Needs an update my dude said ivy neutral was good and up b was meh. Plus no switch combos and stuff you got this choc
Red and Green appears in Pokémon Let’s go!
That the most recent
How cool would it be if you could choose Pokemon trainer and choose 3 Pokemon from the roster to play with like for example I would choose Pichu, Greninja, Mewtwo. Lol but then again it needs to balance the team but it was just a thought of mine probably wouldn't work out though.
Looking for a second main (besides the true king) and this vid got me into pokemon trainer for sure! :D
If I know I can’t recover with squirrel I switch into ivysaur for up b and if that doesn’t work I switch into charizard and he’ll actually have his second jump and I’ll use that to try and recover
Also charizard's up throw is a good kill confirm
Thank you so much!!!
AMAZING VID I love it
Be careful with flare blitz off stage i’m pretty sure it’s impossible to recover
this is not a good guide bro. nearly everything u said was wrong
Like what?
This is what I do:
I start with Ivysaur and just stall because why not?
I switch to Charizard and do some airs before using FLARE BLITZ!
I switch to Squirtle to be annoying
I should have known when you described general airial mobility with DI.
Squirtle's back throw kills around 130%
Great job
I can't wait to see you tomorrow on twitch live! 😀😀
*kirby for next vid please*
I may have to cancel tomorrow's stream. Not sure yet!
Good video.
A bit disapointed you didn't talk about combos using downB (it seems to me that Charizard can do down throw, downB, upB at low percent).
Thomas Moulin He no longer has down b as rock smash down b is how you switch pokemon.
@@icywolfdoneson5973 I know that, it's just that with how fast the switching is I thought there might be combos involving a switch.
Start the combo as Charizard, end it as Squirtle for instance.
Thank you.
You forgot about charizard sweet spots and charizard's up smash is the fastest of his three it comes out at like frame 6
Pichu! The character with MAJOR strengths with pretty bad weaknesses
Red is in Pokémon Let’s Go
