Yeah you could see he was embarrased. Sometimes you face a better side, everyone does sometimes. But not competing any more, its just not a good look.
@@timblizzard4226 I don't think that Aussie side were that good either. Yes, they're a good side, but it's not like the days when you'd look at Gilchrist at 7, and McGrath and Warne bowling and the rest weren't exactly awful.
But we usually at least put up some sort of fight against that team, some batsmen got some runs, we won the odd test deservedly sometimes, even in the depths of the 90s we weren't that awful. You can lose to a better side with honour.
You could see even Merv was disappointed at the capitulation. He wanted to see a struggle.
He just wanted another hospitality filled payday. Instead he got to pack up and go home.
Merv just wanted another couple invoices.
Merv's thinking one less day of free catering.

Fair play to Triple M. Listening to your coverage was the only enjoyable aspect of this series. Totally different to what we're used to in the UK and so refreshing. It just reminds me of all the bollocks we used to spout when I was playing very village cricket.
The stick that the lads give each other in the comms box is brilliant. And if I may be so bold, Tubby Taylor is phenomenal. He's incredibly insightful and still manages to explain the nuances of what's happening to the listener while taking a load of abuse from the rest of the team. Top man in my book...
Izzy Westbury was the star for England. Botham had about as much to offer as Jack Leach.

It's hard to believe that England had Australia 3/12 on day one,and go on to end up losing on the 3rd day. They looked to have this on a couple of times and then just fell over, no wonder Botham walked out.
to be fair though the first session on a green top like that would have troubled any batting line up, very entertaining test match on a pitch that was not up to standard for true test match cricket sorry to say.
Just a tip Howie - when you’re commentating on radio you need to describe the wicket - its not TV and we can’t see so just saying “Scotty Borland’s got another one” is not enough….how about telling us how the batsman got out….

Watching such a pitiful collapse from England merely highlights how far they've come since Stokes took the reins. The Ashes series we've been seeing unfold in England has been one of the hardest-fought contests I've borne witness to - and I like to think England won't capitulate this easily when they next come to Australia.
England always either win or draw at home since 2005 so I don't really see where you're coming from. They still generally have always got pummelled away from home by the Aussies. Plus England drew the home series but with Australia having already retained the ashes, it was really a dead rubber.

I enjoy watching Australia beat England, but in a contest. England surrendered this series on ball 1 of the 1st Test !!! At least fight a battle before surrendering. This was abysmal from team selection to performance from day 1. Just awful for lovers of Test Cricket and the Ashes.

After this tour, if I was an England selector, I'd be sitting down everyone in the playing group and asking why they should ever be allowed to represent their country again. In anything. Cricket, darts, lawn bowls.
Australia might have been better, but the English just didn't even look like they cared about a result. That final dismissal of Ollie Robinson would have been embarrassing in the local park. This man is batting for his country's pride... Or not. Even if he'd had a ten wicket match, I'd struggle to pick any player who cared so little for the badge on the front of his cap as to bat like that. It was straight up insulting to English cricket.
