I had a really consistently fantastic experience running the game on Linux. It took a little setup based on instructions from Reddit, but it's run just about perfectly since then. Valve's Proton works around some of the issues of the PC port, like compiling shaders in advance instead of on the fly. Solid 60FPS. I also backed up my save file in Git because that's so easy and efficient when you're already on Linux.

Game Mode wrapper smooths out camera rotation.
It's all free so it's worth a try. The couple of hours of setup are worth it for 100h+ of gameplay.
I've pinned this comment because it is relevant. I might have to give this a try on a separate partition. I've actually been wanting to do this since vulcan.

The stability and performance issues are strange. It almost feels like randomly half the people who bought the game got a different version. I personally experienced zero issues with performance, while my room mate, playing on a more powerful PC than mine, had a TON of issues. So I am left wondering how the game somehow runs smoother with a solid 60fps on an objectively weaker machine.
Same thing. Works perfectly on my decent budget computer build, but I know people with more powerful PC's who can't even start the game. It's so weird. Hopefully fixed soon.
I've heard it's to do with what cpu you have, but don't quote me on that, I'm not that educated in computers, or this particular issue.
It's double layered. EAC is worthless garbage and other games with DX12 support and EAC have similar problems, like Hell Let Loose. DX12 itself also just isn't all that great. It causes a lot of problems in games I play.
Dont forget about multithreading and ensuring processors are being utilized. Sometimes dynamic overclocking can cause spikes (Intel chipsets), or a game config file attribute is defined at too low a number relative to the total available processor units.
Start with your BIOS 👍
This. It runs fine on my pc but I keep hearing problems from people.
As someone who miraculously had a near perfect experience on pc it breaks my heart seeing so many people experience with this game go so poorly.
Same, my experience has been good, only got stutters in the sewers mostly, but it really sucks that others can't enjoy it. I've even heard of PCs better then mine having the problem, so it's a weird one. Hopefully fixed soon.
Same. I had one CTD and 2 or 3 moments of lag in about 45 hours so far on a 3 year old PC. I don't doubt for a second that others have had trouble, but it's absolutely one of the best games ever made for those of us who don't have those troubles.
Same i understand that from my end i have 5900x and a 3060 (both manage to buy at MSRP luckily) and i run into minor hitching and by minor hitching i mean there are rare case where it dumps from steady 59/60 FPS to 44 and i feel bad, i also wonder if people are trying to play this with max setting always on or something
Had the stutters until the patch and 2 crashes in over 101 hours. Thats the one thing I hate about pc, some people the game might run near perfect but others the damn thing might not even run.

I think journalists are afraid to say they don’t like from soft games because they know people will just say it’s because they suck at them.
If my comment section is any indication, they'd be right.
@@StratEdgyProductions yea exactly lol
Usually when the claim is made it's supported by many statements proving they are bad at the game. I've seen so many critiques of the game where the main arguments against the game being spectacular and worth it's current ratings is that the player didn't take time to actually learn how to play or the player was too stubborn to adapt and got salty the game was too hard for their original play style.
True. I'm a huge FromSoft fan but the fan base at large is incapable of admitting that Miyazaki is capable of making poor design choices. Every bug is a feature. Every frame rate stutter adds to the "charm". Every re-use has lore to justify its inclusion. In other words, yeah, it's always YOUR fault.
@@yog-sherkoth1782 you can apply the same monkey brain group think to Tarkov
Oh boy, so many people trying their hand at revisionist history and denying that many users had massive issues, entirely based on their own personal experience, usually spiced up with a "maybe your pc is just too shit". It's the same dumb circlejerk as on Steam where they tried harassing and flaming lots of the reviewers during the mixed review phase into deleting their negative ratings. One of the worst fan bases around.
ehhh that goes both ways.
@@RyuKaguya Oh yeah, the "every game From Soft makes is overhyped trash" crowd is bad as well. It's just that they aren't nearly as prevalent. It just seems to affect different systems differently and I don't know what causes it. I haven't had it too bad, happened a few times. But I have a friend where it's like 80% of his gameplay. We haven't been able to find a solution. It sucks for my friend and for this guy, and it does when it happens to me, but it's not the majority situation.
@@RuneKatashima I just have odd issues with my pc in general. Sometimes games just shutoff my computer, which is the biggest one. Like it doesn't even crash, it just fully shuts off and idk what the cause or problem is. Sometimes it runs these games fine. Some games are more likely to do it than others. It's fucking weird.
I Mean if you planned to play with less then a 3080 it is your pc lol
Damn dude. I had frame drops in several places, but nothing as bad as this. That really sucks. Hope future patches fix this for you cause it's a great game otherwise.

Yeah, I have never had the invisible horse or enemies on PC.
Oh there will be a 'fix', it is called Elden Ring: Remastered. You will get a 50% discount.
I had disappearing enemies a few days after release but that's been patched out for me
low key looks like dog shit though
Holy shit man, you got hit with the bug stick in a whole another level, I never got invisible enemies or stutters of this level and frequency.
The most obvious bugs I got were with horse jumps leaving me suspended in the air and unable to move.
I never had any of this shit happen to me
lol, im running this just barely at/below min specs on a 5 year old laptop (i7 7700hq, 12Gb ram, 4Gb GTX 1050, game on external ssd, somehow runs smooth most of the time), after first patch most invisible enemies were visible (unless there were many enemies or if it was raining XD), also the only invisible enemies are smaller mobs such as animals and soldiers for me so making it 120+ hrs in ive somehow managed to play through it. the reason is most likely having steady frames the vast majority of the time.
on my old laptop i had all these issues x10, but my new pc finally arrived and its a moster (granted patches came through before it came that did help with the laptop) but now i have no issues, you honestly need allot of memory for this game. i made sure my new pc had 32gb (16 sticks) so i can add more in the future.

Bro, you clearly don't understand From Software and Master Miyazaki.san's vision. The fps drops and invisible enemies are explained in the Elden Maiden Diaper item that you find behind an illusory wall in the second optional area you get after doing the missable quest of Oreganon the Crestfallen Devourer of Phalluses. Honestly it is kinda *_cringe_* you didn't know that, it's obvious you haven't play the game enough.
That is weird, I've only had one enemy turn invisible and it was a player summon when I was invading. I have had a few crashes, but nothing that reverts progress. I've also had some stuttering but no crazy issues during normal gameplay that's weird as hell
I had multiple enemies (including a gaint) go invisible. It was strange, only happened to me for the first time, two days ago.
Alot of these are unique to PC port it seems.
@@AspiringDevil that's why it's so strange though I am also on pc, don't get me wrong I'm still having some of the issues, but not nearly to the same extent
@@RazzleTheRed1 it's weird and it could be the result of so many little different things on pc. Are you playing on low or minimal settings?
Alot of people in the subreddit seem to find that reduces the issues to pretty much nothing but occasional framedrops.
@@AspiringDevil I turn off a lot of effects, like motion blur, and foliage and other bloat I dont really care about. And past the occasional frame drop it is buttery smooth. The biggest issues I run into happen in the open world such as fighting the frame sentinel, and once again, rare frame drops (once per 3 or 5 hours). Oh and it hard crashes for me sometimes, mostly when going into new areas through loading screens.
I think you had some fair points, I've played on PS5 and honestly experienced no issues whatsoever outside the occasional pop in when loading into new areas, but I know some people who did run into issues with frame rate or the occasional crash. I think reviewers and consumers need to reevaluate what 10 of 10 should be.
And also accept that a 9 or 8 doesn't make a game automatically bad, it's just a rating system. I love games that scores of 4 and 5s, doesn't break my enjoyment of the game because it's rated so low.
4/5 games are bad because 1-10 rating isn't linear, but rather its meant to copy the way they were graded in school
Same on Xbox series S (the cheaper one). This is why I have a PC for mostly strategic games and a console for everything else. Most games nowadays are made with consoles in mind and then ported to PC so you're getting a second hand experience most of the time and everytime I hear about a game having performance issues or bugs and so on I'm like... what issues? And most of the time it's PC version that's busted.
The pop in on Ps5 is 100% accepable. Have you seen the pop in for Forbidden West? Its the worst I've ever seen ...
I remember when Jim Sterling gave Breath of the Wild a 7 and got death threats and attacks from Nintendo fans.
Good times.
Same I just hit 105 hours on ps5 and have had absolutely zero issues besides occasional pop in. It's been a solid experience so far and I'm STILL. NOT. DONE.

@@kacperwalkowiak2564 Hey, someone watched the video. I was starting to lose faith. I never realized what nasty little goblins the fromsoft fanbase was.
From what people have found out, it is the anti cheat causing a lot of the issues. I wonder if game reviewers scored it so high due to having copies without the anticheat activated and thus didn't have the aforementioned performance issues .
I can confirm this somewhat, though always grain of salt as its merely only my experience. Out of curiosity, I disabled EAC to test if it ran better, as i kept getting performance issues on one of the very last bosses that impacted playability. It's also piss easy to disable, though this also does disable online play. I found it even booted better, no hanging on pre-Bamco logos whatsoever.
I also found that EAC is whats causing it to be difficult to close, as it has to close its own .local version of the games .exe.
With it off, it doesn't hang on loading, less stuttering to some extent. I can't attest to any crashes, because in my 100 hours in the game I've gotten two, while other people I know have gotten 10+ in their first 20.
Pretty much anecdotal I know, but I'm going to go through with it disabled on NG+1, see if I have the same issues in certain areas with it turned off.
A solution to the anticheat: Literally copy/paste eldenring.exe and rename it to start_protected_game.exe
I have had ZERO performance issues, start to finish, once I disabled the anticheat.
I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. I pretty much disabled EAC asap so I could play in ultrawide. Still had a ton of stuttering all throughout the open world until 1.02, even when not playing with the fix enabled
Never saw bugged invisible enemies though LOL
If so, then it explain my experience. Mind you it is still not as optimised as it should be. But I don't get as much stutter as others experience.
I play offline and without the anti cheat, as I hate invasion and I do not like these invasive programs such as anti cheat.
But it seems that decisive actually makes the game better for me
This is a myth i'm pretty sure, people who have bypassed the anticheat reported it made no difference in performance.
I got about 70 hours now and I must be hella lucky not seein any of these awful glitches. It crashes constantly but I've never lost more than 10 seconds of progress. That invisibility bug is aids
I must be a leprechaun because I have gotten 0 bugs at all. I wonder how many people with stutter issues have the game installed on a hard drive instead of an SSD.
Only got the invisibility thing today, already got 40 hours or so in. Funnily enough, for me stability and fps are going down with each update. Day one, and a few days after that, i really had a perfect experience, no stutter, no anything. Even while my friends in coop had stutter all the time.
I updated my drivers and that ended helping a lot
Same. Works on my machine.

Except I have experiences none of these things on PS5.. 🤷🏻♂️ it truly is epic and amazing, SO much to do and find , easily can put in 500+ hours it is just wow as you figure it out and explore everything!
“Masterpiece” doesn’t mean it doesn’t have flaws. There will never be a perfect game, ever. Or a perfect movie, a perfect painting, etc. That is not what is meant by “masterpiece” or “10/10.” 10/10 reviews still note flaws of the game. It’s about being an outstanding piece of work, it’s not about perfection.
@@pugsley201 this game has ran and is as near perfect as perfect can be for a game for me.
@@pugsley201 But that's the issue my dude. NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE GAME'S FLAWS! Most of the reviews are 10/10. Most youtuber's either just ignore many of these glaring flaws or just refuse to even review the game. This game has some serious issues that pretty much no one on youtube or any reviewers are discussing.
Not to mention that Fromsoft has already had to release multiple huge patches to the game because of how broken most of the weapons are. And on top of that they released the game with basically half of the NPCs having unfinished quest lines. That's bullshit and unacceptable.
This game has the most inconsistent performance from player to player I've ever seen. I run 60fps 1440p just fine on a 5700xt. The first few days I had some pretty bad lag spikes, but after a patch those happen maybe once per play session, and only in an openworld area. The game has crashed on me maybe twice, and I alt tab in and out a lot.
For reference, I'm about 40 hours in, and just beat Rennala.
I'm playing at 1440p FPS unlocked on a 165hz 21:9, and it hasn't crashed on me a single time, and my pc just has a 5 year old 1080ti.
I have a basic ps4, and it ran fine.
Never crash after patch with rx580
Either that or we have a lot of cry babies.
The truth is FromSoft games always behaved oddly when you had more than the recommended specs. See: The PC version of the original game breaking if you uncapped frame rate beyond 30. They are games that tend to be so finely tuned for the specs of consoles, they don't work when you have more.
I tried Elden Ring on my budget $600 PC (GTX 1060 6gb) and had none of the performance problems you described. I lowered texture and shadow quality to low and turned off motion blur, but otherwise I’m playing on the high preset. Not sure why some people are having so many issues, but hopefully it is resolved swiftly.
“I know that I’ve fought the Misbegotten Warrior 6 times, 50 tree sentinel’s, 10 Night Chivalry’s, 20 Deathbird’s, Godskin Apostle 10 times, Godskin Noble 15 times, Godskin Duo 3 times, 20 different dragons that look the exact same, 40 crucible knights, 7 assassins, 3 Red Wolves of Radagon, 5 Black Blade Kindred’s, etc but this game is a masterpiece!!!!!” -Your typical FromSoft diehard 😂
Right! I’m sorry but I have no interest in fighting the same boss 6 or 7 or more times. Just lane and miserable at that point. I thought when I got to the crumbling farum Azula and fought the godskin duo that it had to be the last time. Then I had to fight again in a cave, I believe spiritcaller, and I just couldn’t do it again. I was just turned off at that point. Just lazy developing.
I tapped out after hitting the Mountaintops of the Giants. I made it that far before getting dropped on by another Deathbird. I just couldn't keep on going after that. Which was a shame because they just started introducing a couple new enemies. I thought that the constant 100% copy+pasted enemies was over with but, oh boy, was I wrong!
Actually Tree Sentinel is three times.
10:50 EXACTLY, this is why "day 1 patching" has become a normative behaviour now. When people see trailers, and find bugs it's always: "eh, they'll fix that later". My response is... WHY? Once you've given them your money, they've already forgotten you. Companies are not your friends. To clarify, this is from someone who actually likes cyberpunk. Yes they've tried to fix the mess they made, but make no mistake... they are not doing that for our benefit, they are doing it to salvage their reputation, and why are they trying to salvage their reputation? Because having a good reputation allows them to make more money. Am I happy they are fixing it? Sure. Does that mean I'll trust them when it comes to future releases? FUCK NO.
I’ve got the game on PC, I’ve had a few frame drops here and there and that’s it. Literally no issues whatsoever. No crashes, no invisble entities, it’s been a smooth ride for me. Sad to hear other people have had the game be broken for them.
Same... I had some weird frame drops coming out of the first area to the Tree Sentinel, and a couple of other places in the game, but it was very minor. Seemed almost completely fixed just by lowering a few settings. 1080ti/6700k here, nothing crazy.
If you want to see real cringe, go on the Steam Forums and you'll see people denying reality and pretending all the peolpe having issues are somehow lying or are "anti fromsoft shills" etc.
Same, the only other issue I've had with the PC version is boss AI's breaking if they are not humanoid, though I'm not sure if that's a PC related issue, probably more just generally to do with the game.

Dark souls is the best
I love Dark Souls 1-3, they are some of my favourite games of all time and i did like Elden Ring but i don't think it's as good as Dark Souls.
It looks incredible and the world is so detailed but there was no need for it to be open world. Having an open world added nothing worthwhile to the formula apart from making you have no frigging idea where to go half the time.
Also the game is hard for the sake of being hard. Look at the last boss which is actually 2 bosses which you have to beat in a row without a bonfire in between. So you have to master beating the first boss before even attempting to practice the next one. I summoned someone and let them beat the last boss for me and i have no regrets.
Getting games to work properly is always such a pain. Glade that you showed us your experience
I've seen a huge disparity. I have some friends saying it runs bug free on PC, and others claiming it's bugged beyond being usable. Everyone I know who has it on a console has been alright. It's true optimization can be expensive and hard to fix, but if the problems are caused by a bug or a misconfiguration then it may not be so bad. I hope it'll work out.
I'm on the Xbox One and I'm having a very severe input lag issue
I still love the game mind you but it's kind of a bummer this is my first from soft game
I'm guessing the cracked version will run just fine on pc then, it's fallen order again x)
Well that not a game problem that's a port problem cause for me the game actually runs very much fine.
I mean I fucked up and tried to summon my horse knowing I was in a spot that looked like it would bug out the horse and got stuck mid air and SHHHHH I teleported to the grace site 5 feet away from me.
@@themanicman8458 Note, I may be sounding pretentious as I don't know your circumstances, but I have seen people new to these types of games complaining about input lag but in fact was just the delay every movement has in Fromsoft games. Every single action in Fromsoft games, from rolling to running to attacking to drinking, has an input lag of varying length and time. It's something they do to force you to time your actions correctly, but it shouldn't be more than like, half a second for anything. Also, make sure you're not fat-rolling (VERY IMPORTANT ->). If you go into your menu and look at your total equip weight, underneath it you should see either light load, medium load, or heavy load. Since it's your first Fromsoft game, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know this, but that load influences how fast you roll, and with that how many invincibility frames you get per roll. Light and medium rolls differ mainly in distance covered aren't that different in terms of i-frames, so doing either is fine, but if you have a heavy load, you are fat-rolling. Fat-rolling is much slower, covers much less distance, and has noticeably less i-frames than any other roll, so you absolutely never want to be doing that in any Fromsoft game, as you are only making it harder on yourself. If you already knew all this, then I just wasted yours and my time, as you probably just need a knew controller. Hope this helped!
because people like to bitch for the sake of bitching, people nowadays think fps dropping to 30 is a slideshow and crashing once or twice in like 300 hours is an unplayable mess, it's literally a joke.
Weirdly enough, my PC barely meets the minimum requirements, but ran the game pretty smoothly as far as stuttering is concerned. My only issue were the frequent crashes and getting disconnected from the server for no reason. Also had no invisible enemies and hardly any other bug/glitch.
I have an rx570 and can run it at 60fps in almost every area except for the biggest sections of the overworld. It supposedly should run horribly
Crashes indicates a CPU overheat but for a tiny fraction of a second. As does disconnection from server really, though that's less obvious than the crashing. So when the overheat is that minor, it doesn't mean you need a new CPU - it means the game needs new code! It is bad code which causes that, as when your CPU overheats and dies from that - the motherboard actually powers of the entire system instantly.
But you said crashing, which is just sofware failing not the actual power dying. It's the game that is broken not your PC fortunately!
@@DailyCorvid and the performance has been getting way smoother after each update. though now for some reason I can't alt+tab the game without it closing all the other windows I have opened. which means I can only check item locations and npc questline guides when not playing or on my phone lol

I've played so many games the open world in Elden Ring just doesn't do it for me... yeah, its grand and fantastical been there done that

I swear people who praise Elden Rings overworld have never played other games... not having shit like waypoints or checklist doesn't make it "revolutionary"
Just watching this vid months later and they have made some positive decisions. Mainly what they did in 1.07 that you mentioned specifically was have items/weapons have PvP specific stats, so you can have some fun baked-in cheese in the PvE but maintain fair fights in PvP.
That's crazy. I wonder why every person experiences things like this with varying effects. I've been playing the game at max settings pretty much locked to 60fps, and I've only had 1 game crash, and that was really early on launch too. Pretty sure one of the recent updates to the game has completely solved all of the early stuttering too
Ive also only had one crash and my game runs smoothly, except for the odd stutter. Although weirdly, today when playing in the sewer area, my game is stuttering quite a bit for some reason. Never had that happen before today
Yeah my computer can run it at 60 FPS, but sometimes it’ll dip to 40 for about 10 seconds and then go back to 60 even when I’m not moving. It’s really odd because the drops don’t seem to coincide with moving or looking at stuff like most other games. I’ve also crashed 4 or 5 times in my 30ish hrs of playtime. Only once did it happen during a boss but it was enough to leave me seething lol
Yeah me too. It’s crazy seeing how much people are struggling. I don’t even have that powerful of a machine either.
I meet the recommended hardware specs on my PC and the game still runs like shit in many areas. On high settings frames vary from 20 to 60 fps and I have minor to major stuttering issues in many areas, even after the latest patch and doing every recommended troubleshooting. Something is definitely wrong on the technical/optimization side of the game.

So like what GPU do you have? Because I haven’t really experienced these issues. I’ve experienced things and enemies dissapearing in the background, but not while I’m fighting them. And I’ve never experienced a crash at 50 hours in. And my framerate stays around 60 at high settings.
That's rough. Those issues probably ruined your overall impressions of the game. Personally I've only experienced one or two frame drops during boss fights and Torrent disappeared after summoning once resulting in my character model dying from fall damage from a 3 foot fall. Kinda more funny then game breaking.
I had none and its nowhere close to a 10 its 7 max imo
@@miceatah9359 yeah, I think a perfect 10/10 is not really possible. Every game has problems somewhere. I'm a souls veteran and if I had to rate this game with my bias I'd easily give it a 8.5 or 9 :)
As far as invasions...to do that NPC's questline you first run into as soon as you exit the tutorial area. You have to use 3 of the 5 invasions to progress. Couldn't get it to work... so I went to a dungeon at a summoning pool and it worked immediately. I've also summoned cooperators for help and fun in random dungeons probably 10 or so times and wasn't invaded during any of those. Just wanted to add that incase it helps or interests anyone.
What's your experience with game development anyway? I'm a second year level design student and I should know my stuff, but you just explained draw calls, which I have been trying to wrap my head around to fully understand it, in a really good way. I'm really impressed by your understanding of both game design and all of the other technicalities
I've never had a single enemy go invisible on me, but I do have a weird bug most of the time around light sources (sites of grace, torches, the belt lamp) where I get this weird tiling on the screen. Some of the tiles seem lit up by the light source, other tiles seem to look normal except completely unlit by the light source.
Finished it with two different characters and really enjoyed it but anyone who claims it's the perfect game or even the perfect Soulsborne is just in denial. Exploration is fun but a lot of POIs repeat themselves (expected for a game of it's scale) and it could use a bunch more polish especially when it comes to performance.
I only had issues in apparent loading zones in the open world dropping frames and the second phase of an optional boss but still. From Soft was never known for it's good ports or performance and this doesn't change that.
*EDIT:*
But still didn't have other dropped frames in combat or bosses or the invisible enemies. (seems to be a driver issue)
Never disconnected, had a single crash trying to connect to Co-Op. Found this to be the easiest game of the series (allowing for different approaches and exploration) and imo is the best one for newcomers. Straight up disagree with the min maxing claim, I know how to build from years of experience, still I went for a jack of all trades because I wanted to try out different things and didn't have much trouble overall, killing most bosses in 2-3 attempts with exception of 4 of them that took more.
Like the previous games remember weapon level is king, your character levels not so much.
Best game ive ever played. Im not the one in denial here bro. The VAST majority of players arent having any issues with the game. Ive put in hundreds or thousands of hours per game in every souls series game starting with 2009 demons souls all the way to sekiro. None are as good as Elden Ring, not even close.
Some of the bosses here are far more difficult, although yes if you overlevel your weapon by abusing the smithing stone mines or the one side boss that allows infinite 200 rune lvl 1 or 2 smithing stones to be bought etc.. it clearly isnt as hard.
Theres well over twice as many spells amd miracles, not including ash of war. Far morw content and weapons etc.. Best fromsoft game ever amd best game ive played. No sich thing as perfect. Still 10/10 though end of story.
@@xXDarkxIdealsXx Brother I am sorry but Fromsoft completely dropped the ball with this one. The erdtree avatar is repeated 13 fucking times in the game. Tree sentinel is repeated in a similar manner but with each incarnation getting one thing that makes it "new". The game plays like a Dark Souls game when almost every single boss after the Capital is at best a Bloodborne boss and at worst a Sekiro boss. The game doesn't accomodate for half of the fucking choices you could make such as actually saving Melina by getting the Frenzied Flame and then abandoning it. The armors are quite possibly the worst designed armors in the game. The network test had Poise working as it did in DS1 which was very good. Then Fromsoft decided to fuck it up and return to DS3 poise, which is literaly the most criticized part of DS3. So in summary, the open world is very fucking mid, full of a lot to find, except a lot of that is just a repeat of what you already saw, the bosses suck complete fucking dick, Malenia being the prime example of everything wrong with this fucking game's boss design, the weapons are still being nerfed because of PVP and not only. There was 0 reason to nerf Sword of Night and Flame. If we end up with the fucking 3 weapons being viable for PvE because of PvP it'll be proof this company has learned nothing. They basically took everything wrong with DS3 and decided to expand on it.

this is fascinating, great video! my pc falls just shy of the minimum (mostly w/r/t cpu, I'm running a sandy bridge i5) and while the game ate shit for the first week of launch, I never saw the disappearing enemies. my issues (in addition to horrific performance) were primarily:
1. horse summon fails and I have to preform the action multiple times to actually get on
2. enemies failing to load for 5-30 seconds after entering an area (misbegotten warrior and crucible knight made me scream because the warrior would not load for 10+ seconds and the knight's timer to enter the fight would tick down regardless)
3. sometimes very long, sometimes infinite load times on death/fast travel
most of these problems don't happen anymore or at least much less frequently though so hopefully all our future playthroughs will be better. however I also haven't had as much time to play for the past two weeks since I've been building a full web application capstone on a 4 person team where the other 3 people struggle to write basic Java. one guy can't distinguish between html and javascript and it's driving me insane, so i've been too busy/stressed to devote as much of my free time to elder ringer as i would like.
Really glad I picked this up on Console. Knowing that these games are meant to be played on a Controller made it seem the best choice. I'm really sorry you encountered all of these issues. I never had any problems on the Xbox series S. Glad to know that Developers are still shitting on PC ports.
The weird thing is, I have non of these issues. The invisible horse happened only once but in an area where it wasn't supposed to be. The frame drops I have a warranted, playing Elden Ring watching twitch while running two other programs in the background.
Lmfaoooo you guys ^^^^^ are so dumb XD you realize you can use literally any controller you want on PC right hahaha.... I play ER on Steam with a PS5 controller myself ;) sure the game has some updates to get max performance and fix random crashes, but the games been out for a month my dudes HAHAHA wtf do you expect XD
on pc i had really poor performance but the 1.03 and 1.04 patches have completely fixed all the stutters for me so id imagine its fixed for most people since my gpu is the minimum suggested gpu in steam and my cpu is like 5 years older than the one it suggested so unless people are not looking at the system requirements before they buy i think they ironed it out, could be very very wrong but atleast its fixed for me
@treeghettox i play this on an hp laptop bruh it runs good and I get the same challenge sometimes more so because I need two hands on the keyboard to switch sometimes. its better on pc to me because I'm used to pc. still number 1 💪
@treeghettox People like you seriously don't know how bad the performance issue is. Keep talking about how we are graphics whores and only care about framerate not gameplay, when you guys praise dogshit games like TLoU 2.
Stop thinking that caring about how a game runs well or means we don't care about how the gameplay is. If that was the case games like ULTRAKILL would never be so popular and I fucking doubt people on console would bat an eye about it.
Verditct is play on whatever you want. PC Master Race is just a joke, if someone takes it seriously just ignore them. Stop thinking that everyone that plays on a platform is the same.
The performance seems to be very inconsistent between PCs. I have a PC with a CPU that was slightly below the requirements on the steam page, but I could run the game at a fairly consistent 45-50 fps, albeit with some frame drops in certain areas and the occasional stuttering. However, my friend who has a much better PC than I do, found the game hard to play due to the frequent stuttering he experienced which caused him to drop the game after 15 hours or so.
It's unfortunate because aside from the technical issues, Elden Ring is one of the best FromSoft games, only beaten by the first Dark Souls and Bloodborne in my opinion.
You've got some very valid criticisms of the game. The stutters happen frequently enough for me to notice and I recently discovered that fighting a (thankfully) optional boss causes my PCs drivers to crash. I'm still enjoying the game though and making attempts to fix the issue with my crashes
Im guessing you're using amd drivers and an unnamed dragon kills your pc? haha

So, you want to be nobody in an RPG game? That's your whole goal, to learn how much underpowered was some polygon with textures of a boss that you just fought from his prime form that miyazaki came up with while eating rice on a couch? To learn that everything you do in the game is pointless and your character is not even a character with emotions, character development and real connections to the npcs, and his whole existence doesn't really matter regardless of his choices here and there? To understand that instead of really playing in the world where everything was working and then being a spectator or a catalyst of the downfall of it, you are already thrown in the mess and just left walking around picking up trash and fighting enemies that are already severely weakened lore-wise? What is the point in that, developers hate themselves so much, they want you to worship their imaginary worlds and always remember, the main shit already happened, you're just a cuck watching leftovers eating on each other in our amazing game? Are all of dark souls fanboys ugly unsuccessful kids that hate themselves and their lives that they are looking for salvation in a video game as a spectator and not the main hero that is supposed to be the pinnacle of moral of the story? I've had an amazing time with the game and have had no issues and absolutely love it, it's sad to see others cant experience the same
yes it's bizarre! the optimization has to be improved, and this kind of thing has happened in EVERY game fromsoftware!!!Still, I don't think it's fair to evaluate the game solely by individual performance, especially for me who doesn't usually care much about fps and loads and had few problems. The game is indeed PHENOMENAL, and that's what makes me even sadder, the bad experience that some have is nothing compared to the whole game and some are being deprived of having fun and having a great time. This has to change
I have a pretty average PC and didn't have frame issues or disappearing enemies, some crashes,Les them ten in 40 hours.i guess I was just lucky.
The framerate/stuttering issues plague more powerful machines for some reason.
Strange, I get some stuttering, but have not had a single crash in over 100 hours
The stutters are the main thing keeping me from playing the game right now. Getting a stutter or even multiple stutters during any fight is infuriating. It's particularly annoying because I can play every other game out there at 60+ fps with high settings and 1080/1440p. Game runs 50-60 fps which is fine, but the sudden drops to near 0 feel awful.
Drop it 720p that should alleviate a lot of the stutter. Strange that 1080p didnt work out for you though, a lot of the issues happen after 1080p
That's unfortunate man. I had some issues with the game when i first installed it. For me, the fix was to simply update my nvidia drivers, and it's been running like butter ever since. This is my first ever from soft game. In my opinion, hands down one of the best games I have ever purchaced. That being said, it does feel like everyone gets a different version of this game when it comes to the glitches and random crashes. Hopefully it gets fixed.
This is why i think a lot of people are getting frustrated, while you updated and got better performance I updated and now I get crashes every hour or so
So true about the taint experience with the PC version, I kept getting freezes and crashing that would take me back to the loading screen or game crash back into Steam and Steam would display the game is still active after fives minutes and this was back March... Just found out about Weird West, a new immersive sim/action RPG being developed by WolfEye Studios, which was founded by former Arcane founder and president Raphael Colantonio.
It comes out at the end of March. Will you grace us with a video on it, or is it really a question of when?
Sorry about blowing up on you about a previous comment of yours I was just surprised because I generally very much appreciate your videos and takes.
Regardless, I've never experienced the invisible enemy issue and I ran on below minimum spec pc. My cpu is an intel xeon e5-2690 v4, which is way slow for elden ring. My gpu used to be a quadro p2200 and later switched to an RTX A5000. One thing I have going for me is decent memory and storage speed. If you want to boost your storage speed, I'd recommend looking into Primocache.
Now, I'm just talking about the invisible enemy issue. I've had the command drop issue and Amir has documented that issue well. I believe that the issue might be linked to some of the auto leveling that they added to the game. Essentially, with many attacks, if you're free-aiming the game will lock you onto a horizontal trajectory unless you are above or below a certain dead-zone. Once past the dead zone the character aim will switch to matching your joystick's input.
I agree that they broke the most important part of the game, clutch controls. Hopefully they will fix that in the dlc.
Regardless, this version of the From souls game is probably the most like their version of Morrowind. The whole creeping power fantasy and hidden lore are all quite similar. However I agree that DS1 is probably their best version of the game and I think it too is very Morrowind-like.
Also, regarding the sound of their games, turning the music down or off is the secret easy mode of all of their games but especially Bloodborne. Conversely, turning the music up when you go to fight Gascoigne is bloodlust at it's finest. =d
Playing on the PS4 and so far I've had no frame drops or bugs to speak of, I have heard that it's still broken on PC though which sucks. You would think it'd be the other way around
You wouldn't and shouldn't think that, every single Souls game released on PC has had many issues not present on the console versions, DS1 on PC for example was borderline unplayable without a fan patch up until the Remaster. Generally speaking Japanese developed games have a rough history on PC.

PC gaming isn't really a thing in Japan, so its very much an after thought. I think Capcom has been the only japanese dev to put in some effort into their ports.
It should be the opposite since every console has the same parts where pc can have various configuration
I found the footage at the beginning really odd because I never experienced an invisible enemy (at least that wasn't supposed to be.) especially surprising because I technically don't meet the GPU requirements on this, as I have a 1050ti, but I learned a while ago that elden ring apparently plays nicer with OLDER hardware. hypothetically, this game would run better on a 1080 than a 3080 so long as the model you're getting has comparable vram.

I thought you were fair, I would have been a lot more critical and not even bothered talking about performance. The main issue for me are not there, they are in the poor quality of it's overall design. The devs need to think about this game again, and not copy this stuff into their next title.

With regards to optimization, what should developers aim for in terms of graphic settings FPS and recommended hardware requirements? To my way of thinking, games should be optimized to run at 60fps at 1440p at medium with recommended hardware, given what’s out there for your average rig. Is this right?

This video is kinda misleading, the problem is actually anti-cheat. Or rather how they implemented it. I imagine they did a quick hack-job because of when they attempted to solve it for the dark souls games. They started to work on the solution quite soon to the launch.
If you disable the anti-cheat (disables the multi-player) the game runs very well. I went from a 2 minute loading screen to 2 seconds. Literally. It doesn't look related to how good your computer is, just some oddity how the anti-cheat was implemented.
@@zppzxoox
I mean it's difficult to actually isolate that as the issue when you are having general performance issues even when playing offline. I also wouldn't be surprised if there were actual optimization issues, because there are been such issues in every recent FS game. Given the amount of people having issues, I'm sure there have been many who have tried to do this and still seen no increase in performance. Especially because the game seems to be overloading quite powerful hardware for some strange reason.
I do honestly think that FS should just have removed the competitive online component on initial launch and added it in later when, you know, the AC system has actually been integrated into the game though. For as much as people seem to obsess over it, the multiplayer experience is not the core gameplay experience for most people, and should be seen as secondary. This isn't an online focused PVP experience, like Street Fighter, it's a largely single player experience for the vast majority of players, and should be treated as such, with later content enabling multiplayer being released if it is actually in demand.
I think covering optimization also isn't misleading, most people don't understand the amount of work that needs to go into optimization, and expect games to be fixed very quickly. But even optimizing DRM or AC software is a monumental task (and usually not up to the game developer which is why they shouldn't even be included), let alone covering the actual optimization issues in the game itself. We have seen enough games with performance issues that this is a good subject to cover.
@@AveSicarius
> it's difficult to actually isolate that as the issue when you are having general performance issues even when playing offline.
When you play offline anti-cheat is still active. You need to disable the anti-cheat.
Sure the game is a bit badly optimized. VALVe actually made the game run better on Steam Deck because they could isolate and fix some issues regarding to shader caching.
But 99% of the issues people are having are related to the anti-cheat
@@zppzxoox It's probably hardware or software related (i.e. it only causes issues on some systems). I don't have any problems even with AC on. And I have a friend who had framerate issues and disabling the AC through a special executable didn't help him at all.
Maybe for some people the AC is an issue, for others it's just bad optimization etc. and some people don't have any problems at all.
45:27 is so true, in ds2 we used to invade (or leave mark) at iron keep bridge and it didnt matter, because you rarely got a newbie going through the map for first time, it was known as pvp zone to practice builds before hitting BoB, same as other specific zones
Despite lacking somewhat in pve, DS2 had a strong pvp system that was incredibly well balanced. Where most other titles usually found a couple meta weapons being viable, almost any build was viable in DS2 due in part to how infusions worked. It also discarded the bosskill mechanic of other games, meaning that the game's online lifespan held out long past its release up to the time online for most dark souls games was disabled due to a RCE exploit.
While I see DS2 as the weakest game in the whole franchise, the PVP was the most enjoyable for me as well.
DS1 was broken and barely functional, DS3 was a metaboi and gankfest.
Other's I did not try. Did BB or Sekiro even have it?
Let's see how Elden Ring's community performs, but I get the feeling it's gonna be lots and lots of people googling the strongest builds and meta to grief
What PC do you have? I'm on a 4790k with an RTX 3050 and never had invisible models, shader caching drops and GPU utilization issues sure but never seen this, have to wonder what kind of hardware you're on :o
Draw calls don't appear to be the issue here. I have a RTX 3070, I know people with RTX 3090s and we are having the exact same issues as players with lesser cards. Generally when a game's draw calls are too high the frame rate slows down to crawl and lower end hardware has even a harder time trying to render. However this is different, its more of a stuttering issue that lasts for a couple moments and then goes away. Best quess its the anti-cheat software that was added to the game at the very end of the production cycle.
Silly question: are you playing in online mode or offline? If the former, then your system has the additional workload of near-realtime web service pings. Might help.
Web service pings are so low overhead that, unless FromSoftware did something exceptionally stupid, it's a non-issue.
Yeah I figured as such. It's not so much the amount of data being passed, but having Windows spin up another svchost process for the same. There may be app-level throttling that requires a successful service request+response before subsequent in-game methods can be executed (hypothetical).
@@cc1912 Again, that's only a problem if FromSoftware did stupid things. Handling network traffic like this is a solved problem and blocking gameplay on network activity is simply one of those things we know not to do during gameplay, far preferring a future sync than a current block.

That being the case makes this extremely important and having nothing to do with his actual specs and everything to do with game optimization. Got it on PC and spent over 6 hours troubleshooting issues after the first hour of play just to get the game to run, only to discover all the enemies go invisibru from time to time. It really has soured me to the game, and I haven't wanted to play it simply because of the issues that aren't my fault getting in the way. The issue is that I don't want to get it on the PS4 too... I can't bring myself to pay 120 for a busted game
Just wait for the patches bro! *sarcasm*
Nowadays it's almost an anomaly for a game to be released fully finished, without bugs, and complete with promised features. And it's absolutely unfair to you or anyone, the REAL fans that "made the game possible", to pay $60+ for a game that's unpolished/unfinished.
I understand the pressure on studios to release the game within a time frame for investors, etc. but it's still inexcusable. I really empathize with your comment btw🤕
Tried playing this game on his 7 year old pc lmao.
@@corbincavitt635 *2 year old PC.
I have 105 hours and haven't had to deal with even half of these bugs LOL I'm sorry it ruined your experience man, still a 10/10 for me
Im 47 hours in and the only bugs ive encourtered is projectiles hitting the ground when your locked on to them and a slope (which isnt a bug per say) and enemys clipping into the ground so i cant hit their crit when they fall over and then they get back up and kill me because i couldnt get the crit to stagger them.
Really sucks that people get these random issues. Same thing happened with me and Cyberpunk 2077 - in 100 hours and a full playthrough, I saw one floating cigarette and crashed twice. That's it.
Not gonna watch the video until I beat the game, but I thought the title might be click bait or something. Sucks for people on pc, but after 80+ hours on ps5 I haven’t experience *any* bugs that I could identify. I genuinely feel like this is one of the best games ever made, if that’s not ten out of ten nothing is lol.
@@makeitthrough_ i think the point is more that the author experiencing bugs is a anecdotal experience, others may have it or they may not, people seem to be providing their anecdotal experiences which provides a small look at others experiences, and does not reduce the personal significance of the authors experience.
@@makeitthrough_ that’s a pretty trash take my dude. If you’re really looking to bash something popular (obvious by all your other comments) the least you could do is use an analogy that actually fits the situation. Not think of the most gotchya comparison and throw away any thought about the fact that it doesn’t make sense.
I'm playing this game on PS4 and i've had NONE of these problems at over 100 hours of play. I've found some glitchy-ness and jank here and there; but in my experience it has never been as bad as described in this video. The only time the game has Crashed/Frozen up for me was a few times trying to connect to somebody else for multiplayer.
Yeah, PS4 hasn't had any issues other than one or two areas having brief stuttering
30fps is fine, everyone is crazy
You guys rly havent had bad fps areas? Im fine with 30 but often it drops to like 10-15 frames for me on ps4
@@lronjack if your standards are low enough to say people who want more than 30 fps are "crazy", your definition of brief stuttering is probably far far worse than what a normal person would consider "brief"
@@lx4079
I mean for console gaming, 30 fps is a pretty normal expectation which is why people who primarily play on consoles are less impacted by frame issues, personally I believe they should either up console specs and reduce the relative price (because the actual component price has very little to do with final cost apparently), or reduce the fidelity of games in line with the expected hardware. Both would probably result in a stable 60 FPS.
But it's honestly far easier to get a stable framerate on a console in the first place, because hardware is usually unilateral, unlike PC gaming where there is a vast difference in components and potential performance.
@@SGTMasterBean I've had a few frame drops in some of the more dense areas and in certain boss fights; General Radahn is janky as fuck. The game also sometimes crashes when i try to connect to somebody else for multiplayer. But beyond these few issues i've had no serious problems playing more than 100 hours on PS4. The game isn't perfect but it's pretty damn good.
now that the game is stable on PC, i recommend revisiting this review lol
For me, I managed to fix a few problems by disabling EAC and going offline. went from a general 20fps to a general 40fps, and haven't seen an invisible enemy since, that wasn't a specific assassin in a random ass cave. This was after over 100 hours of playtime that I finally tested this. I'm not going back online, no matter how much I want to pvp.
As a ps5 player it runs damn near perfect. Lovely game.
100% agree
right? ps5 i havent seen any of this
Just some bad pop in but other than that I give it a chefs kiss 😘. Fromsoft has always had a problem with pc ports so I’m surprised anyone ever buys them imo.
It's a damn shame you've had such a bugged experience. I have a poopy computer and it still runs the game pretty well so I'm not sure what the issue is.
remember how everyone loved dark souls 2 when it first came out, and only later they started accepting its flaws?
i dont doubt the same will happen with this game.
Huh weird. I wonder what your rig is? Mine has a... 1070? Runs it 4k 60fps without issue. Though I think I have stupid good luck with rarely if ever running into issues in games.
39:55 took 13 years to add jumping talk about adding features slowly
The Elden Ring apologist force out in full effect. Cope harder.
The "I suck therefore game is shit" crowd is out in full force. Cope harder lol.
@@ShadyLurker16 souls games aren't hard tho. Everyone with a little bit of patience can finish them.
"...and you think to yourself: Am I crazy? Am I playing a different game than these people..."
That sums up how I felt with The Witcher 3. I enjoyed it because I got the complete edition for 10 bucks but I couldn't understand how a game so buggy could be considered a masterpiece 10/10.
Same! I think the bias in Witcher 3 comes from a fact that what the game does well, it does exceptionally well (quests, atmosphere, music etc). However it doesnt change the fact that it has many flaws.
As much as I hate using the term "overrated" but I think it fits The Witcher 3 perfectly.
I saw literally no bugs in the witcher 3.
Buggy launch that most people didn’t play, most people picked up the game due to word of mouth a year or more after the game came out and was patched up.
Same reasons people look back on bf4 as one of the best shooters ever made even though it had an atrocious launch
What graphics card are you playing on? I have a 5700xt and although ive had stutters and frame drops, never once have had any invisible enemies. And for the most part the game has run good. But it def needs some patches
Idk who at fromsoft thought adding a .5 sec delay to the roll command was a good idea. That's my biggest complaint with the game. It's great but definitely not perfect. Valid criticisms.
It's seems like everyone has kinda the same opinion "wow I played in on PC and it wasn't that bad, guess I was lucky" but I really think you were the unlucky here, shame that you had this experience this game is great hope they fix this problem even if the majority isn't having them
Good performance is a very subjective matter. For mediocre machine owners 20 fps on low details is fine. On some SLI monstrosity even microstutters in 4K are unacceptable.
@@Kaucukovnik666 that is true but we can all agree that Bloodborne frames sucks but it didn't stop people from loving it, I guess life is strange lol
Edit: you could argue that Bloodborne fps is always shit so the consistency makes it bearable
@@Marcos-gb5hd Yeah, that's the thing. Consistency matters. Input response matters, and even at 60 fps you can have crap responsiveness. Camera bobbing makes some people notice low fps more, others notice it less...
The majority definitely are having a really good experience, but over 39000 negative reviews on STEAM are mostly poor performance related. Even some trusted online reviewers released a caveat saying, "this game is awesome, but a late patch made the performance much worse on PC."
It’s a shame the game was clearly unoptimized on pc, the first week on ps5 I had frame problems, and horrible pop in… but they patched the game a few days after launch and since that first patch the game ran pretty perfect, at least to my ability to notice. But this would be unbelievably frustrating for pc users. With that said my brother got the game on pc, and also reported after the initial patch no noticeable performance issues. Again regardless of my anecdotal experiences it really is a shame this happened to so many people
Played through this game twice on pc, and the stutterng was a problem the entire time for me. 130+ hours of bosses freezing for half a second and dropping frames completely. Still worth experiencing, but I did uninstall it after my second playthrough. I'll wait for the inevitable dlc, and, by then, hopefully won't have these issues anymore.
It's like this comment section didn't watch the whole video. How surprising.
All his points are fair, and he still praise the game despite the very real flaws.
Lmao just finished the video and yeah no one watched till the end
Dat ass tho amirite?
Its the Souls community my man, they love meat-sucking Miyazaki and nothing else despite the fact him and FromSoft are very flawed in their game designs and decisions.
Why do you think the saying first impressions are important. That rant in the beginning won't really make ppl want to stay, is the classic" it didn't run well for me so everyone else is wrong "
@@devinscott8680 there’s nothing wrong with their game design or “decisions” proved by the success. It’s their tech. It’s old and never great. if they don’t completely overhaule it for the next game their gonna end up like Bethesda
Playing on pc, I haven't had a single one of these bugs. Shit runs like butter for me.
Same
same minus a few crashes in multiplayer and the occasional frame drop.
If your shit runs like butter, you need more fiber.
@@PaleGhost69 nyuck nyuck nyuck
I'm not sure what my specific settings are (I just selected "max" on the menu) but I haven't had any of these issues on my laptop. I guess my only concern is my screen sometimes goes black for a second or two but then again it does that even on my desktop
That frame rate denying my button inputs is I think the main reason that I didn't have much fun with this game. Idk how video games work but I know that I still have a lot of fun with dark souls and I rarely have fun in elden ring even with all of its bells and whistles.
