Please do take this as a compliment, you have been very instrumental and important in my hesitation to begin moto-vlogging. I have years of riding footage that I have collected but haven't done anything with any of it. Your transparency and frustrations in dealing with and battling the various algorithms and pressures of constant content creation along with other content creators frustrations have been an important perspective. What advice could you give in dealing with those frustrations and pressures and figuring out the algorithms so that it remains a fun thing to do. It is clearly apparent you put a lot of thought and research into these things in building your channel and the success of that work shows. It just seems though that so many get into content creation to get out of the typical rat race of life and it becomes a monster of a rat race of its own.

Unfortunately, there is no exact answer! I see creators with millions of subscribers, who have the exact same issues as creators who have 1000 subscribers. It’s just that inevitable feeling of putting your heart and soul into something you enjoy for it to not be well reciprocated in the end. UA-cam has always, and will always be an ebb and flow. The best you can do is just always focus on what brings you happiness and only create when you really want to. Hopefully the bad times go away and new people decide to come along and share the life with you online. That’s all I could ever hope for!

Super useful, thank you! The one thing I keep struggling with is audio quality out of the helmet. I have three different lav mics, tried all with deadcats and foam, tried plugging them into the gopro 7 black media mod, AND tried them with a zoom field recorder, and pretty much no matter what I do, above 40mph or so the wind noise becomes so loud that the audio starts clipping and popping and ends up being unusable. I also tried it with the mic being right in front of my mouth, with the mic being to the side, but not under the cheekpad, with the mic being under the cheekpad, to no avail. Therefore no videos yet :/
How did you figure out what setup would work for you? Did you run into this / similar problem?

How difficult was the editing learning curve for the 360 cam?
How long have you used epidemic sound & how would you compare it to the free use music from UA-cam studio audio?
I've been moving my recordings off the SD and onto an external tera drive for storage.

    • @HerTwoWheels

It took me well over a year to get a hang of editing the 360º footage. I just use the insta 360 software and export it as a flat mp4, then import into premiere. And Epidemic has legit been a game changer to my videos. The youtube music didn't exist when I first started, so that's exciting to know it's there now... but I will orobably always use epidemic. Literally hundreds of thousands of songs and sounds!

Hey Jess, love the channel and thanks for putting this video together. I have a small gaming channel (this one) and I think I would like to try moto vlogging. Perhaps with a new channel or revamp this one since I no longer play the game. So, I have my setup, Hero 8 black on the chin with mic adapter and a Purple Panda mic, session 5 on the handlebars, I think I have a really decent start. I'm riding a 05 1200c Sportster. But I guess that's enough of a back story that really has nothing to do with my question, 😁 My question is that after a few test rides, everything looks and sounds great. Vocals are clear with a nice drone from the Sportster in the background and zero wind noise. Overall, I'm pleased, but I noticed that I look around way too much. I don't notice it during the ride, but it's nearly sickening to watch the playback. Literally left to right for the entire video. Watching your videos, you don't seem to have this issue. Is this the way you naturally ride, or is this learned skill? If this is something you had to overcome, do you have any tips for the wanna be vlogger? Thanks and keep up the great work.

I think you are the first person I have ever heard mention Tube buddy, and this is the first time I have heard of it. I will look into that.
I think Go Pro settings are what I struggled with the most when I first started out, and it took a lot of trial and error, and skimming through everyone else's settings.
I have a great helmet rig, though still trying to work through some winter wind noise because I add a wind screen during the winter (sportster bro here). Its not horrible, just not as good as I am used to.
I think my biggest struggle is I work full time, AND have a part time job, so finding time to record is hard, especially now that daylight savings has ended, and the sun has already set when I get off work.
250 ish subs in 2 months is a good start I think, I just have to keep working at it. I don't know what the average channel growth is, but I imagine persistence is the key.
If you have any other suggestions towards growth, I would appreciate it. I have ideas, just not enough time. Lol

    • @theorthobiker

Also, what do you use to create your thunbnails, because that is one thing I seem to be struggling at. What makes a good thumbnail?

    • @HerTwoWheels
      @HerTwoWheels  Рік тому

I think a good rule of thumb for growth is to publish consistently and keep the topics relevant. Publishing consistently is a free meal ticket for viewers. Think of it as, “oh hey, they publish every week. I know i will be rewarded with content if I subscribe to this channel”
As for thumbnails, i use Photoshop!

Hi Jess, Do you have a SENA (other bluetooth comms) connected to your audio input of your GoPro to record conversations with another rider?
I've watched a few videos, but other Vloggers leave out remarks or visually how they have their helmets setup. So I'm not 100% on what works.
I've been hearing the SENA helmet speakers are not compatible with the GoPro. That it will only pick up either the rider or their partner in the audio.
Sorry if that sounds confusing. Thanks ;)

I was so pumped about starting a UA-cam channel. Watched a lot of videos on motovlog set ups. Including yours. Went out bought all the equipment, set it all up, recorded a few test runs and completely lost all motivation. It is so much work, and it so easy to say forget it and just go for a ride. The whole thing I think is a bit overwhelming to me, that and I hate the sound of my own voice 🤣. So how do you motivate yourself to get out and create a video?

Yeah I've been wondering what kind of travel gear you use? I have an '04 Road King and only have the stock bags on it and they aren't secure or very big. I do have the driver back rest, sissy bar and luggage rack, so I have space for larger bags, I just haven't started looking yet. I recently bought the bike and it is my first long distance capable bike, so needless to say I've been spending a lot of money in the shop either making repairs or doing some comfort upgrades. I have to give the previous owner credit for keeping it looking right, but they were a bit behind on maintenance or wear items, and I would love to know what the hell they used for a gps because I can't find anything to fit the wiring or the larger ball ram mount. Sadly it was all supposed to be removed on my last service (hydraulic cam chain tensioner) and bar (12") upgrade, but they reinstalled all of it GRRR! I've probably spent just about as much on service as I did the bike itself but I love it and don't really care that much but I'm running out of money. Last thing is a good yet inexpensive full face helmet. I'm heat intolerant and mine just doesn't ventilate well enough for long duration trips. I'd love to email you and discuss all this at some point and hope to see you and the hubby out on the road some time.

Great video Jess! I have been “Going to start videoing my rides”, even to the point I mounted front and rear facing cameras but I have very limited editing skills! Another “I’m going to..” item. Maybe Next year… 😂

Oh. This was highly helpful. Just got a GoPro 11 for Xmas. I think I've got all the extras I need to start moto vlogs. I know you said you're using Adobe. What do you think is the most economical software version? I'm looking at them on eBay & thoroughly confused. 😅😅 Thanks for the content. This isn't a cult. 🧙😁

Great advice! Starting a channel was one of the best things I've ever done. It's unlocked so many amazing experiences so far in just a short time. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it. You don't need anything fancy. The gear doesn't matter too much if you're fun or interesting to watch or listen to. Except a microphone. Audio is surprisingly more important that video when it comes to keeping retention. Jess not sure if I told you but You, Blockhead and Shadetree made me want to try this. So damn fun! I use Vid IQ but I night try Tube Buddy to see of its better. Happy Turkey Day!

Very interesting on how you go about making video's. I have no desire to make video's however I do have a question. Batteries, you must charge and carry lots of them or are you wired to the bike so that isn't an issue? Great video's!

Hi Jess you should really try Insta 360 one Rs and helmet specific Chin Mount by Chin Mount. insta 360 one rs mic adapter is so much cleaner on the helmet with the mic adapter being so small. I know you have wider audience but I was using GoPro for many years even before making content on UA-cam. Since I switched from GoPro never looked back

I did! (I think i even have a video about the test) the quality was much lower and the audio quality was terrible. I switched back to the gopro immediately

I have 100 and some videos out. I never really knew how to make all that stuff be in sync for searching and finding the channel. Still not sure if I understand but I’m gonna give those keywords a try. Thanks for the wonderful video.

it should come with a cover, you could also buy a giant squid 3.5mm mic to plugin to the media mod

I usually have 3-4 that i keep charged and cycle through! One battery can continuously record for about 45 minutes if filming at 2.7k/ 60fps
