Removing Every Single Piece From The Exterior Of My BMW E34 Touring

- This one was a long time coming. In this video I remove all of the exterior trims on my 1994 BMW 530i Touring in order to prep it to go to the body shop for paint. I have removed most of these pieces of similar BMW's before but a lot of these are uncharted territory and were a lot of fun to figure out how they are removed. A lot of you may be confused as to why this car is in need to paint, however I did my best to outline some of the bigger concerns and as the video goes on I believe it becomes more evident. Very great preparation ... the sound of all clips and trims when you remove them it's amazing !! very beautiful 5er. If i can suggest, in my opinion the smoked windows on the rear are not the best, considered the age of the car. In any case great work as well. Awaiting the final result!
I fully agree, although the black rear windows are basically as 90´s as you can get it lol 😅

This is something I have been super on the fence about, apparently it is factory tint and part of something called the “climate package” that was available in France and other European countries? It’s very hard to find a solid answer haha. But I do agree, fishbowl windows on this era car are the best look🙏

Yup. My local shop rate is 189USD an hour and a full trim removal is a lot of hours. It's also not too difficult with a few tools and patience, so if you've go the time it's a good experience that saves lots of money. Cheers.

I cringed at some of that just ripping the trim off because I know how expensive some of that stuff is. Unfortunately, I have that dreaded lower door trim rust too and have tried to fix it on numerous occasions in the past back when those trims were still cheap to buy. My idea is to repair the doors and weld a small strip of metal onto the bottom to make it look like the trim is still there and maybe spray it with undercoating to make it look right and match the side skirt. My car has the rust around the windshield trim too which really worries me because I've been thru that nightmare before on my old MK2 VW GLI. Damn, crappy windshield replacement hacks. I've been needing to replace my door handle trims forever. E34s are one of the best looking cars ever made in my opinion.

After a few busy weeks, I finally had the chance to catch up with this video! So satisfying and I can just salute you :) when you said you wanted to make that e34 as new as it came from the factory, I only can fully appreciate that! Such a beautiful car, really worth keeping for another 30 years :D

Same thing here with my CRX. It's incredibly well preserved and everybody always wants to buy it since I did such a great job at polishing it and coating it so the average person thinks it's literally in mint condition.... but man, single stage paint sucks. You're lucky so many parts are still readily available for E34's like all the trims, grommets, clips, etc. For my 2nd gen CRX I am F'D. I've found a couple of new seals and mouldings here and there from random warehouses in Japan and Europe, etc. but I'm still missing soooo much for me to be ready to COMPLETELY strip her down and have her resprayed with modern, high solids paint. She's Rio Red but I'd love to spray it in Mazda's Soul Red Crystal. It's insane, super metallic and the red tone changes with the lighting and angles. It's a lot like candy apple red but without being over the top with those excessive, gigantic flakes and too dark a red many times.
Awe man that rad, I love CRX’s. We really lucked out with the euro cars and most of them still producing all the parts. That’s been one of my biggest fears about getting into a Japanese car. It’s not as simple as a next day delivered FCP order when something goes wrong. But that sounds awesome man, would love to see that 🖤

Awesome video, the prospect of it being painted is verryyy exciting, I'm hoping to paint a Datsun 350Z in the future. Whenever I need to remove trim from cars at my side-gig as a junior mechanic, I always get nervous it will crack or the clips will break. I bet having the peace of mind that they will be replaced anyway is very relaxed. Good job!

With those e34 doors when they rust its pain to get it to stop the door is folded and then it has some sort of silicone on top. Rust gets under the metal. I would recomend to open the whole seam and dipping lower part of the door in acid to remowe all the rust. Then use some good epoxy brush it on at fold the seam back up

Make sure to order the plethora of various plastic-clips for all the trim and doorpanels ahead of time as it´s virtually impossible to not break them while removing anything. 😅

EDIT: Oh and make sure you try to keep all the rubber seals in as good of a shape as you can since BMW demands a literal fortune for new ones. Like one new seal for one door is like 300€ lol...

I almost cried this weekend because I found a dent on my car. It’s not noticeable to the average person, but dang does it make me sad. Can’t wait to see the bmw when it’s done!

Is the lower lip part of the front bumper (removed at 5:00 mins into the video) an OEM part? And if so, can it be added onto a standard E34 bumper?

Dude destroyed $1500 in trim to make this window. The windshield trim alone is $500. If you wanted to blow money you could've just gave it to me to paint my E34. The paints way worse.
