    Philippines is located in the ring of fire. Very strategic for geothermal.

    I can give you estimation from my experience in Iceland, where there is also abundant conventional geothermal energy. Once a resource has been well characterized and the risk is lowered, it can be profitable at ~3-4 cents/kWh. Very cheap in comparison to wind and solar.

    While Nuclear Power looks good on paper for the PH, it isn't really that good for the country for many reason. Some of the problems is nuclear waste. Where would you put it. If a Fukushima style accident happen will PH be able to handle it?.Given that corruption is prevalent how secure will the Nuclear Waste & others from bad guys? Earth quakes and natural disaster, Radiation leaks and such. PH is not ready nor will be able to absorb a Chernobyl style accident given its limited territory etc

    we actually rich of natural resources. our government should continue doing this But of course to benifit our people. We still think positive that our country will be back on track as one of the 1st class country in Asia. This will lift ourselves as Filipinos.

    I hope the Philippines will put more efforts into harnessing the power from renewable energy such as geothermal energy, wind, solar, and biomass. The nucleur power plant in Bataan should be dismantled completely so that no one will ever think of reviving it. Philippines' future is in renewable energy.

    • @devonferris
      @devonferris 3 роки тому

      Wrong. Both plants should be harnessed. Nuclear and the Geo Thermal. Nuclear is one of the safest energy making in the world. Don't believe the lies coming from the environmentalist activist and anti-nuclear oppositions. There have been many countless and written research on Nuclear power and it's benefits.

      @@DeLaCruzer11 How so? The Filipino scientist have scouted the Bataan Nuclear plant and found no fault line under it. Also the Nuclear plant that Marcos and his administration built in1979 is still today functioning and maintained but not fully used. There is a documentary of the Bataan Nuclear plants by a Nuclear expertise you should check out. He was given a tour by a Filipino scientist. Even if the Bataan plant is old. What happened to Chernobyl won't happen in Bataan. Besides what happened to Chernobyl was based on incompetence of the people running it have nothing to do with Nuclear leaking anywhere and poisoning local people. A filipino scientist community is strongly advocating for opening and fully used of the Nuclear plants in Philippines because it will finally rid of Philippines dependance in foreign oil and we will have our own control of energy. The filipino scientist also mentioned several benefits of opening our own Nuclear plants.

      @@devonferris Filipino scientist? You mean paid by the lobbyist and special interest groups to give a positive presentation? Don't be gullible. Don't be misled by every vlog that you watch.
      Bataan Nuclear Power Plant sits near a major fault line. And No it's not functioning either.
      When it was completed:
      "A safety inquiry into the plant revealed more than 4,000 defects. Among the issues raised was that it was built near a major geological fault line and close to the then dormant Mount Pinatubo in central Luzon."
      You said it- it's old and old nucleur technology. Just because you say it won't happen in Bataan what happened in Chernobyl doesn't mean s$hit. And you think Filipino technicians are more competent than Russians or Ukrainian techinicians and scientists? Filipinos are notoriously bad at maintaining and taking care of their equipment in tip top shape, what's more when it comes to maintaining a nucleur power plant.
      Dude, you need to stop putting your faith in those paid Filipino scientist putting out rosy pictures in behalf of the lobbyist and special interest groups. If we need a nucleur power plant, it wouldn't be Bataan Nuclear Power plant. It's just not safe anymore to revived that despite what you may have heard.

      @@DeLaCruzer11 And I suppose that your sources are credible scientist? and that the information being given to you by environmentalist activist are trustworthy? you don't think they have an agenda as well? There are forces, interest and organizations in the background that we don't know of preventing other countries to develop their own sustainable energy because it would not help their business. Example are oil industry like Saudi. Solar power and wind power are expensive to develop and cost more to maintain than Nuclear power plants. They also produced less energy to meet the demand of a growing population. You don't think that Solar power and wind interest would do anything to prevent the creation of a cheaper and more powerful source of energy like Nuclear? Look what Edison did to Tesla. Tesla developed a cheaper way of creating electric from AC currents but which company dominated the world? Edison did, and Edison cheated Tesla over the rights to the invention. These are real Filipino scientist not some activist and lobbyist. Individuals who have interest in seeing the country free from the dependence of foreign energy. The Filipino scientist published his findings of no fault line under Bataan and still today no one has disputed his findings.
      When I was talking about Chernobyl I was referring to the disaster that they created to themselves. Nothing to do with the defects or faults of the plants itself. Before the disaster. The Nuclear plants was doing fine. It was not making any poison leaks to the atmosphere or underground. it was not poisoning local people. What caused the explosion of Chernobyl was the workers pumping massive water to a burning nuclear plant they caused to explode in high temperature and caused the explosion. The only time that people were poisoned and exposed to the radiation was when the Plant exploded. There is a movie made in HBO about it. Go check it out.

    No. While I agree there are many benefits to geothermal energy the Philippines will benefit the most from CLEAN and RENEWABLE energy when we invest more in nuclear. My cousin is a nuclear physicist ( I care not if you ask to prove that fact because it would be pointless over youtube) and has done extensive research and while we agree geothermal is a nice temporary solution nuclear power will be the ultimate next step.

    Not knowing much about NP is also a dangerous and scary thing. Speaking of people's awareness of NP, I think it is that knowledge of people about NP and it's associated risk and problems and consequencies if an accident were to happen that people are more scared about it than them knowing less about it.

    Yes. Temporary as well as inefficient. It's temporary because it's source is a volcano which in and of itself alone is temporary and can become extremely unstable. The Fukushima incident actually went extremely well and the plant shut down during the incident could not have been more perfect. The leak was extremely minimal and to this day is still manageable. Also, the technology used at Fukushima is already, relatively speaking, outdated and has been improved even more so.

  • @DeLaCruzer11
    @DeLaCruzer11 11 років тому

    geothermal is not temporary, 17 percent of Philippine's total energy is generated from geothermal energy for many decades now helping PH lower its total energy dependence from foreign source . PH plan to double its geothermal energy by 2020.

    • @titan133760

      Actually, earthquakes are a natural phenomenon and is not caused by activities in geothermal plants

    • @rumblefish9

      Leon Esperanza "Geothermal power plants emit 97% LESS acid rain-causing sulfur compounds and about 99% LESS carbon dioxide than fossil fuel power plants of similar size." - U.S. Energy Information Administration. They also use scrubbers to remove the hydrogen sulfide. Also, many geothermal plants are located in areas with a lot of seismic activity or volcanoes. Sulfur dioxide is naturally produced by volcanic activity. This is where the term "correlation is not causation" applies

    I'm really not trying to sound condescending at all but you literally know nothing about it. You're being overly generic in your responses and honestly it's people who have your mentality that stop great advances in NP from advancing. The associated risks and problems are almost absolutely none. Look up recent reports on Fukushima and you'll find that the radiation problem is not a problem at all. You do know radiation exists naturally in the world, right?
