To secure the dunes, which protect the Dutch lowland behind them, every 3 or 4 years the beach in front of the dunes is raised to a certain level by means of supplying sand from the seabed.
The coast in sections of the North Holland province is not protected by extensive sanddunes and is thus vulnerable from frequent storms which could break through and flood the low country behind. Replacement of sand , pumped from deep water can thus be used to protect both the beach and low dunes. If you use Google maps lok for the Dutch coast south of Den Helder ( the northern most town ar the tip of the North Holland province). I always reckon that program like this ought to provide a map as a minimal reference point for those not familiar with the geography of the place where the action is taking place.
