When I used to live in south Florida, the airport that I worked on would protect the burrowing owls there and set up T perches near their burrows to give them a better view of any potential prey. Wasn't unusual to see them around at all. I found out that there was a burrow near a fence line that you could get a close up look of them. The airport had put up a canvas barrier to mostly hide them from casual view so people wouldn't pester them. Being young and not quite as sensitive about distrubing wildlife as I would be now, I popped my head above just to take a quick look and was greeted with 7 pairs of eyes staring back at me with various head tilts and a circular motion they make with their heads. It was funny as well as adorable but I only watched for a few seconds before I left them in peace. So I would vote for a full video on the burrowing owls. They just have such unusual habits compared to other owls.
Nice. I'm surprised about this, since in Ron DeathSantis Flori-Duh normally an animal like this who compromised corporate profits would just be run over....

I'm the odd one, I like the Snowy Owls, what beauty. We have Barn Owls in our area and have 2 nesting boxes up for them as we live on acreage and need them to take out the rodents. Wow! You have never heard such a racket!! 5 babies were in the nest near the house.
Oh, I can imagine the noise from all of those barn owl babies wow! They are really beautiful owls though and it's awesome that two live in your area, helping to keep the rodents down.
My favorite is the barred owl, "Who cooks for you" heard nightly camping by a creek at scout camp. I saw a fisherman hold up a fish on a cushion and a barred owl came out of the trees on the rive bank and took it. Also in Arkansas I've heard screech owls. Sound like someone moaning at a distance when they were actually pretty close. Very interesting video. Thanks.
Last winter I watched a grey owl sitting in a tree near our house. He was gorgeous-sitting in a conifer. It was winter. The chickadees and downies were completely comfortable with it being there. The owl was hunting voles in the snow. I’d love to see a video on grey owls and there relationship with crows. I have seen crows chasing the owls in our woods. We are fortunate enough to live on a coastal peninsula AND have an eleven acre fresh water pond abutting our property. Our cottage is very tiny and rustic but we bought it because of the land. It is resource-heavily wooded with conifers, maples, and birch. We see many beautiful birds, including osprey and eagles. An irruption of snowy owls would be amazing. I hope word gets out that we have a bit of a vole problem here! Love your channel! I subscribe to just a few-yours being one.
I have Never seen an Owl in the Wild. I worked at a Nature Reserve for a Summer as a Kid and Fed a Barn Owl Every Day. I Have been Searching and Will Continue to While Hiking and Camping. Love Your Channel Keep it up!
Owls are my Favorite bird! I wh00 talk to them!..grateful they live in my yard, lake, lightly wooded area! The stories and memories they have given me💓
Would be so, so thrilled to see a snowy owl where I live this winter (Midwest US). I'd like a video on them. Must be one of the most beautiful birds out there. Would also be fun to learn more about the adorable and unusual burrowing owl.
A vid on the Great Horned would be nice. They're beautiful and majestic and I'd love to know more about them. The first time I saw one was on a school field trip to the local science museum. His name was Spooky and he lived at the museum for 38 yrs. Always fascinated me.
Aww, how cool about you seeing one at your local museum. They can live so long, and I agree they are beautiful and majestic. I would definitely do a full video on them again but for now, I should let you know that I did make a video last fall if you'd like to check it out :) Here is a link ua-cam.com/video/186hIk0XmNI/v-deo.html
I actually have two favorites the 1st being the Burrowing owl and the 2nd being the Great Horned. I watched a great horned owl takeover an osprey nest in Savannah Georgia's Cornell University live cam to raise one male chick. When you told me they would eat anything, it made me think of her ... because she brought her little boy another owl a Tawny owl I believe it was because if it had been a burrowing owl Ivwould have cried. I would LOVE to learn more about the Burrowing owl 🦉& maybe the others down the road!! Thank you Leslie!! You made my difficult day brighter!! ❤️💖💕
Those Great-horned Owls are something else. It's incredible what they can do. Burrowing Owls are wonderful little birds of prey I'd love to do a full video on them. They are terrific and definitely a favorite of mine. I hope your day is much easier today, take good care of yourself, Sherry. Much love and light to you
You are very welcome. I could never imagine letting any of my pets roam, I'd be too worried about them for one, but most importantly I would worry about the wildlife. :)
We had an owl somewhere around our property that sounded so cartoonishly like an owl that I thought one of the neighbors had lost their mind and was imitating an owl.
We live on southern Vancouver Island we get snow owls, barn owls and more. We hear them nightly. Have taken pics of them in our trees. They are all are absolutely beautiful. Every time we see a snow owl it truly a blessing. Every time, lol, seen only 4 or 5 in my life. Snow owl would be a great show.
We live in Naples, in SW Fla. Hubby and I enjoy walking our pups in the evening and very often see our Burrowing Owls sitting atop the mailboxes, light boxes or on the ground in the swales. They’re so cute! I’d love a full video on these fierce little creatures. Thanks!
Awesome, awesome video! Well done and thank you so much for the comprehensive information within. I live in SE Michigan and my neighbor and I successfully rescued a Great Horned Owl last night that was completely entangled in a soccer net on the local school grounds. Took some time but we got it cut out, watched it to ensure there was no visible wing damage, left it alone in the dark for half hour and then verified that it did fly away. What a great feeling!
Owls are wonderful. They were my late wife's favourite. A few weeks ago, I heard a Southern Boobook. Hadn't heard one for a long time. Short-eared Owls have a huge range so would be worth looking at in a longer video.
We have Short-eared owls here in my location but my luck with owls haven't been the best. I would love to get some recordings of them to include in a full length video about more of their habits.
On one of the live eagles' nest cams I watch, the daddy eagle, who's usually standing guard on a branch while mom is on the eggs/babies, got attacked regularly by a GHO, at night, when he couldn't see the owl coming. I'd love to see a longer video on (in order of interest): GHO, Burrowing, Snowy, Great Gray, Short-eared. I'll love a video on any of them, of course.
Yea that apparently happens quite a bit. Great Horned Owls are crazy owls, but I do remember seeing an adult eagle attacking a great-horned owlet before too. It was nearing fledging.
Right. You hear about this all the time. Last year I think it was one of the Florida bald eagle nests that was continually attacked by a great horned owl. And then there is the Texas Backyard Wildlife I think it is who had the GHOs nesting in the bald eagle nest.
This is awesome. A long, long time ago, in the small town we lived in, one night, the cops pulled up in the lot next door and set the spotlight on the steeple of the church across the street. There was a Great Horned Owl prowling around that steeple, that was filled with pigeons. The next morning, the feathers on the ground were amazing. He ate good that night!
I love owls. I remember the irruption of Snowy Owls from winter 2017, because the raptor center where I worked had two of them come in. The female had too many health issues and didn't survive but the male did. I was out for about a month due to surgery, and I checked up on "Snowy" just about every day on the online database. He ended up being flown up north to Vermont to be successfully released up there. Of all the owls on this list, the Great Horned is my favorite. I've gotten to interact with two of them as their aviary cleaner, and also with one who was a once in a lifetime special education bird that there will never be another like him.
I was fortunate to see a Snowy Owl during a snowstorm in Port Angeles Washington many years ago. It was amazing to see it in the snow. I also spotted some Burrowing Owls in Colorado one winter.

One of my best photos was of a Great Grey. Quietly sitting on a stump out on an island in BC. I’ve seen Snowy Owls show up on the QC South Shore. Pulled over to watch one on top of a light standard checking out a winter snow covered farmer’s field. Thanks for the nice videos it brought back memories of my encounters.
Thank you, Lesley, for another interesting video. I love the Snowy Owls…I got a chance to see one several years ago as the beautiful bird decided to land in my brother-in-laws large back yard while we were visiting. He or she sat on the roof of a garden shed for a long time before flying off into the nearby woods. At my place we have lots of Barred Owls hooting away in the late afternoon is mostly when I hear them and sometimes in the late evening, I love listening to them.
I just can't choose my favorite owl species. The burrowing owls are so cute! The great horned and great grey are magnificent. I've seen snowy owls over the past two winters since I moved up to Vermont. I saw them not in town, but perched on fences on my sister's property up in the hills. When I was a little kid, I couldn't help imagining that when a great horned owl stared ahead at the camera, he'd be asking with some annoyance, "Whoooo are youuuu?"
As a side note, I was visiting family in central Florida back in March 2022. I was outside with my moms dogs, and it was about 4am. I heard the very familiar sound, “ who cooks for you, who cooks for yoooouuu” of the barred owl. I’d love to see a video of these beautiful owls in the future. Thank you 🙏🏼 Lesley 🤗
I recently read that Burrowing Owls in California are threatened because of habitat loss. Wildlife officials transplanted some owls to a new territory, and in order to ensure that the owls would settle there permanently, they had to make it seem as if there were other Burrowing Owls living in the area. They accomplished this by splattering white paint near burrows and playing recordings of the owls' calls. I thought it was fascinating and a really innovative plan to help the Burrowing Owl! Anyway, thanks for the wonderful owl video! It was really neat to learn more about them! I especially liked the Great Gray Owl and its incredible sense of hearing!
I live in Wisconsin and have seen in my back yard great horned, saw-whet, barred, screech, and a barn owls. I love them all. Even had a hooting session with one of the great horned owls...Lol! I'd love to hear more about the saw-whet owl.
Excellent video Lesley! I used to see Great Horned Owls when I grew up in Upstate New York. A few months ago, for the first time I saw a Barn Owl here in Plano. I was shocked but really excited! If there’s one hopefully there are others.
Lesley, thanks for the info on snowy owls, I had one near our farm (northern Michigan) all last winter I didn't know they travel south every five years or so. I was glad i was able to see that stunning bird often.
I know what you mean, I've never seen them in person either but I'd have a field day if I did. They are comical, super adorable, and full of interesting behaviors.
Here in my neck of west central Florida we have seen several owl species. Barred Owls live around our property and I've seen them as early as two in the afternoon. Their almond shaped black eyes and crazy monkey like calls are truly unique! We also have Screech Owls and a Great Horned Owl visited for several months this year. He would sit in the trees in the morning making a loud and screechy call and would stare indignantly back at you if you found him in the branches!

Snowy owl is fascinating and would love to see more on them.
Beautiful! We have a barred owl here in Live Oak Florida! I have only seen him 2 times very late at night in the tree! Have a great weekend ❤️🦉🦉
Oh how wonderful. :)
I was surprised ice fishing on Oneida Lake to see a snowy owl on the ice in the Syracuse New York area I like your birding thank you
Here in my neck of west central Florida we have seen several owl species.
