Personnaly I'm lebanese and I live in Lebanon, so I'm really happy that they made that decision, otherwise I would have never gotten the chance to have those skins. I think it's really nice from them.

Watching this video an hour after it came out, and eggsoup is talking about how no BH Tournament has hit 100k concurrent viewers. I just looked at my other monitor and LCQ currently has 90k LOL
I know personally I was upset that I was unable to get specifically metadev asuri because combo breaker was going to be held near Chicago which is where me and my friends live and we planned to go but due to covid it was cancelled and from then on it was just RNG on whether or not I could have gotten it.

I'm from Brazil and I managed to get a metadev from Matt Woomer's twitter. This skins are SUPER rare here cuz they are pretty much unobtainable, when I select my Metadev Orion ppl actually Pog in game.
This kinda reaction will be lost due to the viewership rewards, but to be honest this is not a big deal. This decision will bring a lot of long term benefits to the game and this is worth way more than the exclusivity of the skins to the community in general.
The only thing a fear a bit is that skins overall don't feel special anymore, like how they've done in League of Legends. But idk if this can actually happen in Brawlhalla cuz they are very different games.
There's 50 million accounts. On stream today there was around 80k viewers. There will absolutely still be a pog factor. Anyone who starts brawlhalla next year will still never have them.

Ember has been my favorite character since i first saw the game. I saw the mdev skin and wanted to get it. I go to ebay and its like 300-1000 bucks. So im pretty glad they’re being generous

@@hyrulien There will always be people who can't watch Twitch. Pretty sure the EBay issue will still continue since farming with multiple accounts gives those sellers a lot of supply for selling codes.

6:10 thanks that really means a lot to me. I'm a 15 yr old in Saudi Arabia so there is no way I can go. But the viewership rewards, I just let it start and go to bed because the stream starts on 7pm on Saudi Arabia times, so I let it go and go. But when I woke up this morning it was hosting crokie so I can't see my rewards untill the second stream starts. Also, we have school from Sunday to Thursday, and there is a stream on Sunday but I havey classes on Sunday but I can manage it out

The metadev skins as viewership rewards made me really happy. I'm a Brazilian player, and as Eggsoup said meeting a dev is basically impossible for me and my friends, because no major tournament ever happens in here. And even if it did, a fricking pandemic just happened so the viewership tracks are the only way i can ever put my hands on a metadev code. (Aside from giveaways)
Also i don't think anyone is less deserving of a skin just because we can't go to a tournament, that's kinda stupid.
Anyway i'm really happy with the viewership rewards for this year's BCX and i'm hyped to discover who the next metadev's gonna be!

Your points are really valid, I watch more streams now that I know about the rewards, and I'm way more interested in the competitive scene of Brawlhalla.
Another reason they're doing this is because it is BMGs 5th anniversary for BCX and thus they won't do this type of event every again for any proceeding year. Also realistically out of 60 million people, only 80k would get a metadev and about 40k would get the entire set and even then not all of those players are active in the community.
its basically the same as when fortnite sold the graveyard skin again and gave og players the purple version
That was different , if you wanted the skull trooper skin in Fortnite you still had to pay for it , here everyone is getting it for free and the few people who have the privilege of attending these events are completing that other people got the skin(which they also got FOR FREE)

I love this way to think about it. I just recently got my older brother playing this game and he has been watching the streams along with me to get the rewards, and he otherwise never even would have known that they existed and definitely never would have gotten one
Thank you for this video egg. When I saw the video pop up I was a bit apprehensive to watch. Personally I have never and likely will never be able to attend an in person event. When I lived in the states I wasn’t close to any event and now I live in South America and just can’t afford to head back to the states. I wasn’t feeling too bad for those who had the skins before, I understand that feeling of the exclusivity, but it’s still really exclusive. But now it’s exclusive and inclusive.
I feel like it could be cool to see if they made a metadev (or some other promotional skin) for the most played legend in official turnaments during the year. kinda like league of legends does for the victorious, championship and conqueror skins. by doing this they can keep the skins in viewership rewards and it can still be called metadev because it would be a meta legend who gets it :^)
Maybe a skin at bcx that gets released and then u can buy it during next year in the store for ranked currency or something, and then it gets vaulted. just an idea i had.
( i hope ragnir gets metadev this year so i can get it by watching bcx, i live in denmark and i probably will never attend an event unfortunately because of that)

This is also promotion. 80K+ people at the time of writing are watching the esports stream. You're telling me that this isn't one of the greatest marketing tools out? The biggest tournament of the year is giving away an incredibly rare item one time to get the most eyes on their product for 30 days. Being #1 on Twitch wouldn't have happened without these giveaway items guaranteed.

I was in a brawlhalla bcx stream with 100k viewers as of recently which is kinda funny now that I am watching this again.
I think given the circumstances of 2020 , giving people a skin that makes them feel cool for free is great, I always liked metadev asuri and I was really excited at the prospect of actually acquiring it, maybe all future meta devs should be given out like a year or two after there released
Give them out like a year later and give the people who got it before that a title like Metadev 2019.

I personally don’t see any issue with it. It’s boosting brawhalla views hitting 90k last I saw, but the player base is still much bigger so they are quite rare relative to the player base. Idk if it was just me, but exclusive stuff and rare really I never cared about (whether it was owning something rare or seeing it) cause it’s kinda just cosmetic.

Living in Brazil it is very difficult to leave the country I am happy that they will give metadevs, it is a pity that I cannot go to a Brawlhalla event
I think the new metadev will be cassidy, because they mostly use older and simpler characters and blasters haven't got a metadev skin yet. I think it should be mordex, since he is played so often and his weapons deserve some love. I commented this to help Eggsoups algorithm, keep up the great work

I dont really have a clue what the new metadev actually is, but my guess would be artemis. It is played by a bunch of people, tim oretty sure no metadev has scythe or lance so it makes sense. And my favorite type of cheese the edible kind.

Side note, all those 80k metadevs will be distributed among all servers. Not all players are from NE or NW. So there will, I don't know, 40k in NA, 30k in EU, 15k in SA, 8k in Asia and 7k in Australia. They will keep on being rare.
I wrote this a while back as a huge paraphrase of what I remember of the dev stream announcing this:
And the people who already have metadevs, don’t get mad. Please don’t get mad. We have 60,000 new players every single day. And there won’t be that many people getting metadev skins. So, in a single day, boom. The rarity is just back up by 60,000 additional players. Us giving these out as rewards won’t devalue your metadev skins. So don’t get mad. See, initially we would just give metadevs out when you meet one of us, at a restaurant or an airport. Just come over and say “Hi”, and we’d give you a metadev. But, due to the recent events, we haven’t been able to go out and give metadevs. We would also host live tournaments and when the tournament is over, we’d give codes out to everyone there. And we can’t do that so to give out metadevs, we are doing this.
Afterwards, they talked about how with the new metadev, if they gave out codes like they did (aka give people codes and then implement the codes later). Then their support-email would be flooded.

I got free tickets for Gamescom last year because I work in a bar closeby. I went there with some friends and met foda. He gave us all metadev bryyn I believe. I was very happy about, my friends don't even play much BH but took it anyway. And then I see that people buy those skins online for 400$...
I enjoy brawlhalla (even if it does frustrate the hell out of me sometimes. Curse you ranked! XD) Honestly the fact that they're giving away Metadev skins are pretty cool, even if people are rather angry about it. It's nice for the folks who don't have them/can't get them. Plus, people who DO own them are getting something special too so, ye.

Tbh, they should do something similar with Championship Riven skin from League of Legends. The new metadev skins should be slightly different (really minor) from previous metadev skins. Previous metadev skins owner still get the feel of exclusivity and its a win for both sides.
I feel like giving everyone access to metadev skins kinda defeats the point of the metadev skins entirely. Since you could only get them from meeting a dev the catch was that thy were rare. If everyone gets them then they just become any other skin so they arent special anymore. Maybe they could give an exclusive version to the Og's or something otherwise the skin loses its personal value.
As someone that's gone to a few offline tournaments, I really don't care about metadev exclusivity. The game's popularity is nothing like it was back in the day, metadevs as they were traditionally distributed is effectively gatekeeping the playerbase that can't travel or don't want to. Metadev's aren't important enough to get mad about, the only thing I really disagree with is the mammoth fans from before 2019 available, but even that doesn't bother me too much.
Overall, I think BMG is doing a great job in reconciling the problem of store refunds into tons of free content for f2p players

As an owner of Metadev Orion, I think it's fine that they are re-releasing them. I want more people to enjoy the skins. I hope they do this again next year. Metadev becoming something obtained by watching BCX on twitch is a cool idea.
I think the next Metadev will be one of the older and less popular characters like Queen Nai or Thatch. Best cheese is mozzarella.

They handled this metadev thing much better than the Charged OG colour scheme. I'm against gatekeeping exclusive items in games but I feel like there should be a provided incentive to keep playing as a long time player. When they gave out the charged OG colours to everyone, not only did they give them out to anyone, people that weren't around at the time of the actual event got MORE than if you were an older player. With the metadevs, on the other hand, it's absolutely great. Everyone gets to have a skin, people that weren't there for all the years dont get any more than the longer time players do, and the "OG's" get an extra reward to show their loyalty to the game. BMG kinda lost me on the OG colour scheme reward but they won me back here.

The funny thing is that 3 of 5 of the Metadev's I don't play, and the other 2 I pocket. I'm mainly going to only use the weapon skins on my mains (ex: Brynn's Spear on mirage and Kaya, or Bodvar's Sword with Jiro, Ember's Katars with Caspian, etc.) I personal;y find Metadev skins eh, they aight, but I don't see the appeal in most.

I just hate how it just encourages people to watch the stream for rewards and then leave right after they get what they want. Most people don't really care about the esports and the viewership drops by like 80k viewers at a time. Ans the codes they just spit out makes it unfair to others like me and others who don't have time for something like that

personally im on the side of the people hating the idea of them giving md skins easy as that. My only md skin is bodvar... now obv id love to have to other ones but the thing is The old mds are all retired, theyre not being produced anymore and are only sometimes really rarely given away on devstreams. And now they make them be ontainable like every other skin like cmon there are ppl sitting on their stresms with 8accs whats the point of having one then at all. Theres a reason theyre called met-a-dev. I'd get over it if they've done only for example bodvar and asuri (even tho id be pissed as an bodvar md owner but id get over it.) obv its a good marketing strat for them and also ruins the ebay md selling... still i find it unfair towards the people that preowned that md skin. And I dont really see it that way like u said, that its only a 'bonus' its basically something u pay for which is included in the whole package of going to a LAN. U cant just say "oh well the lan is what u pay for, and everything else: shirts, codes, pins etc" are just a niche extra. These were one of the last exclusive things in the game and now theres nothing really left expect some stuff from charities and the beta and alpha avatars. I wouldnt be surprised at thid point if they made the cape charity taunt come back.... eont think they will make the avatars be obtainable but who fucking knows... ember md shouldnt be able to obtain either :shrug: but here we are.... i really liked the idea of the rewards when they fiest introduced it with the ccs and cape taunt etc I wouldnt even dare complain if they continued adding stuff like this... I love the new colors and the idea on how to obtain them all perfect but now just dont give away og stuff and everythings fine. Also foda mentioned theres going to be some 'reward' for the ogs cuz he apparently hasnt forgotten about us... Well im tempted to see what reward the og ember md owners will get which'll make up for their loss of exclusiveness.

i think its cool that we can get free skins and i dont really care what skin it is either way but its stupid that people are trying to "stock up" on skins to sell to people for a premium instead of just using them to grow their platform aswell as helping the community by giving them away etc, the fact that brawlhalla are giving away these "rare" skins away to loyal viewers is amazing
I was a little disappointed by this decision. I don’t plan on meeting devs or anything but I do remember when they brought back charged og and it’s just not as cool anymore when I used it. I get the reasons and yeah I’m gonna watch the streams but it’s a little upsetting

i dont have any metadevs and i would probably never get any of them from actually meeting a dev but i still think its kinda bs to give them away, its one thing if they just gave away the new metadev skin but giving away all past metadevs removes all the value of them. but most importantly if it can happen once it can happen again, meaning that they technically are not really exclusive anymore since they might just do another giveaway.
