How to Style Straight Asian Hair

- If you have that coarse, straight af hair like mine, I know 100% that you struggled with styling your hair. These are tips and tricks I've learned over the years and I hope they help you out in one way or another!
// STYLING ROUTINE //
PREP:
- STMNT Grooming Spray
- Get Hair Damp
BLOWDRY:
- SMNT Matte Paste
- Rough Dry to about 75-80%
- Heat sections of hair and scrunch to "bend" the hair
- Bends will create natural separation and texture
STYLE:
- Use the product residue in your hands
- Define the ends and start detailing until you like what you see
*Depending on your length of hair, styling routine should be no more than 10-15 min
** Yes, you do have 10-15 min to style your hair. If you just want to admit that you're lazy af, then just say that lol
*** No, I don't expect most people to style their hair everyday. I wear a hat most days but at least I know how to style my hair when it matters (ie. night out, date, weddings, etc.)

I don't have Asian hair, but I do have unforgivably straight hair and this video really provided some good tips! Thank you 👌🏻
Glad to hear it! Straight hair is a pain sometimes
I'm not Asian, but I have very straight hair and multiple cowlicks. Have been struggling to style my hair for years, since it always tends to stick in some direction. Your video gives me hope. Thank you.
Glad to hear it man. Please keep in mind that if you have coarse, straight hair, it needs enough length to even do this style. The coarser the hair, the stronger it is at shorter lengths
My kids are Japanese and Mexican. One out of my 3 boys has that thick Mexican hair and I know what to do with it. The other two boys have straight Fine Asian hair and idk how to style it without it ending up looking greasy 😭 thank you so much for this. It gives me an idea of what type of products to look for.
😭 thank you for your kind words! Glad I could help. I know the title says straight Asian hair but this works for anybody that has straight hair in general. My son is half Korean and Mexican so I understand your pain fully
Omg girl im watching this video for the same reasons 😭. My poor son.. Ive been doing it wrong this whole time!
Yea Asian hair problem number 1 - oily , greasy , and usually i wash mine 2-3 days a once cause if i wash often drys not good!, also Do grows like a Super saiyan hair give a month already need clip 😂😂
Awesome tutorial I love that you added instructions and reasons why we do certain steps. Just one thing guys when you're young bed full of hair healthy scalp but remember less product is better and take care of your scalp with mask!
Thank you my sons half asian and his hair sticks up constantly it’s so thick hair
Tell him to grow it out a bit, and make sure his barber knows how to deal with straight hair. Aka find someone who is just as good with scissors as he/she is with clippers
@@deltahair thank you I struggle when having his hair cut no matter how it’s cut it always sticks out and looks coarse I can’t explain what I mean
Thank you showing this to my man so he finally does his hair
holy crap thank you sm, my hair usually looks exactly like the left picture on the thumbnail, even when i've blowdried and used hair products.
i knew i was doing something terribly wrong lmfaooo, cant wait to try this out tmr
Did this work well? I'm in the same boat
does having dyed hair help show the texture in your hair more in your opinion? ive always noticed that people with lighter colored hair have an easier time showing their texture vs jet black hair.
yup, you’re spot on.
Imagine a pack of dried ramen noodles and then imagine it if it was all colored black, kinda would be hard to see the individual noodles.
But if you wanted to keep darker hair but still add some visual texture, adding some highlights to your hair would help. Highlights don’t have to be blonde. You could, for example, take your dark hair and then add in some dark brown highlights, that would already give it much more texture without going crazy with color.
So are you guys say black lives don’t matter OR WHAT? I’m kidding, now that you mention colors it makes sense as it’s more visible. I might go for highlights but I heard it damages hair
Hey, I don't know how I found your channel in the UA-cam algorithm but this is great content. I have the typical thick strong Asian hair and have a tough time getting my hair to bend in any way even after growing my hair out and using a ton of product. I could push my hair to one side with a strong product like clay but that doesn't even hold my hair for a day. The best haircut option I have is a short fohawk but I really want to try a longer hairstyle like a perm. I'm growing my hair out again but it feels hopeless do you have any suggestions?
Sounds like you usually have your hair short.
Just grow it out, what do you have to lose?
Yes, you go through the awkward phase. But if your hair is really all that difficult, doesn’t your hair always look kinda awkward anyways?
I get that you feel it’s kinda hopeless but it sounds like you’ve actually never given growing out your hair a try
same boat as you, im barely near out of the awkward phase of growing out. My hair is stubborn and wont bent to my will after loads of product. Gonna get a perm soon lol
@@calvinma9493 I would highly recommend a down perm
Direct to the point. Nice
For me, I use matte wax then hairspray afterwards.
i did that for over a year and it damaged my hair lol. to the point where i started losing hair in certain spots and my family has no history of hair loss. Good luck!
This is amazing!
Thank you!
Nice bro
Outstanding with prep + product bf blow
Hey I have very similar asian straight hair and just watched this video see how to sorta style my fringe. I noticed you used grooming spray and was wondering how significant it is for styling and what it does exactly for your hair?
Thank you!
I'm not Asian, I'm Indian.. oh sorry I mean I am Indian not Asian, but india is in Asia and also india is a part of Asia.. the point is that this video was very helpful.. khublei!
good to see other options for asian hair instead of korean idols hairstyles when search on youtube
Lol I would say my look is Kpop inspired but definitely more of a korean-American style
@@deltahair yeah I mean the two block haircut
Awesome, going to give it a try. Not Asian but a European with straight hair like yours, even my fringe sits like yours not against the head but like sits off the forehead and outward and it always annoys me because it’s so light and straight that it doesn’t just fall and sit down so I’ve always just backswept it or combed it to the side. Straight hair is annoying to style 🤣
You understand the struggle! Hope the video helps
Where from Europe?
Same😃
Looks good
do you have a video about this haircut? thank you
Bro I need you in So-Cal lol
How long does this hold for? Honest reply please 🙏
bruh i luv textured hairstyle but i hate the dryblow part, anything we can do without dryblow?
Awesome vid! What kind of hair dryer is that?
Could you use sea salt spray instead of the STMNT spray you were using?
preeeesh
How often do you cut your hair? Or do you style it differently when it grows out (after 2-3 weeks)? Also, is your hair permed?
Hair is not permed. I’m pretty lazy with my hair. Should be getting a cut every 4 weeks but usually it’s 10-12 weeks (being a busy barber means no time for myself!)
And yes I style it differently at different lengths
Amazing, it looks like you could do a parting style when it grows out?
what is your hairstyle? may I know
what is the brand of your pre-styling product?
How do i ask for that haircut of yours?
May I know what haircut this is? What # was used on the sides and top. Interested in getting this style of cut on my next visit to my barber.
What if you dont have a hair dryer?
on step 2 what are you using
Thanks for the tip. What is your length on top in this video btw?
I just can’t seem to find a single hairstyle to work for me. I have thin straight Asian hair. I don’t have the spiky sides. I’ve tried doing this textured look, but it doesn’t come out right. When my hair gets to 4 inches or longer on the top, I can’t use any kind of product. My hair will half stay up and the rest fall flat. I’ve tried textured quiff hairstyle, and combover. I just don’t know what to do for thin hair
What products are you using in your hair?
@@deltahair moroccanoil clay and thesalonguy hair talc (powder)
Clay/wax/pomade are all heavy weighted products. I would say that’s your problem. I would apply a texture/volume/grooming spray when your hair is damp then blow dry everything up to make it look crazy. Then use the powder to start setting your hair.
Fine hair also has a length limit before it lies flat no matter what. Seems like yours is about 4 in. I would go for more of a shorter textured look on top and stick to a wet spray for prep and the powder for style. You might as well throw out your clay
@@deltahair would sea salt spray work? Or what product recommendations do you have for texture or grooming spray? Rip I just bought clay since I researched that it was good for fine hair. Is hair powder the only good thing for fine hair?
Sea salt spray works, they’re essentially the same. Anything of a wet spray that’s supposed to give your hair more grit
basically give your hair a beating 😂 noted
Heat, scrunch, heat some more, scrunch some more
hey daniel,
what should i ask for if i want the same look as the start of the video before product/styling?
I have curly hair.... is it even possible for me to get something near this style?
what prep hair product you recommend?
I LOVE YOY
what dye do you use to get that color of hair? interested in getting this color
What did you use to die ur hair bruh I like that color and I’m Filipino kinda have similar skin tone !!!!
What is the hairstyle called?
Idk
How long does STMNT Matte paste hold and is it light or strong hold? I wanna order this combo from the video.
I have asian straight strong hair...the main prob is the hair on both side...when it is at a certain length...it is like so perpendicular and u know...i wonder how to style the sides...or should i fade it?..i want it long but not too much so that prob still annoys me and my hair is like round on the side...can u give me advice?
Unfortunately, having hair that sticks out in the sides means that you have to keep it short like a fade or long to brush back. Anything in between would be a pain.
Having the sides faded is a very modern, Western style cut. If you want your sides darker, I would advise looking into a down perm to flatten the sides
what's that hair color??
aah, I´m just too lazy to do this every day xD
How many stands of hair did you lose during this process
if my hair dries then no way to style it unless i completely wash it and start from scratch right out of the shower
even damping it won't help
Yup, I feel you. If your hair is really stubborn, you just have to put It under the shower water and really soak it
If I wanted to get that haircut what would I tell my barber? Because that cut looks fire I just don’t know what to tell my barber to trim the top and sides
The top is disconnected and the front is shortened for more of a cropped appearance
Ive always wanted to try something similar but it never comes out the way I hoped it would because I don't typically apply product near the roots. Isn't having product near the roots bad for your scalps?
I don’t know who told you that but there is no basis for that claim lol.
@@deltahair oh that’s a relief lol. Been very sceptical with products in the past because some people said it leads to hair loss etc
so much work, but looks good
what kind of haircut is this?
What do I tell my barber to get your haircut?
My hair in this is a mid fade with a blended crown but a disconnected side
Does this works with any type of Asians?
If im rocking a short combover, would the styling products you used in this video work as well? having trouble with my hair falling down a lot especially the front. currently using gatsby but wondering if STMNT products are better?
Gatsby can work, although it’s hard to wash out. But you’re missing the prep product which is the grooming spray. Other brands may call it texture spray, volume spray, sea salt spray.
Prep product is highly underrated and not talked about enough. Spray it into your hair when your hair is damp/wet. Then blow dry. Then style using gatsby. Let me know how that works for you
@@deltahair thanks for the advice! Are there any others brands that you'd recommend for grooming sprays/stylers if I'm trying to go for more of that matte/textured/natural look? STMNT looks great but I'm from Canada and it's out of stock here.
What do you ask for when you get a cut, wanting this hairstyle
as for a 2 block cut, blended crown, and cropped front
What haircut could that
I wanted to ask why the styling product is applied before blowdrying since I noticed having wet hair would decrease the effectiveness of the styling product. I personally dry my hair before adding product but makes it harder to shape and show texture in my hair like in your video. Any advice?
Adding product while your hair is damp makes for a better spread and even saturation because the product will be “melted” into the hair. The effect will have a bit less hold but you can always throw on a bit more product afterwards.
what is that haircut?
Which pre styler and styling product did you use?
STMNT Grooming Spray with a touch of STMNT Matte Paste
do u use hair clay???
and what the name of the styling product that you use
Stmnt Matte Paste
My hair is coarse, straight and very thin and ive damaged it because I never knew how to style it so will I damage my hair more if I do this?
Hey, so your comment has some contradictions. Your hair is either fine, medium, or coarse with different levels of density. But no, this will not damage your hair. Does your hair get damaged if you wear a hat and it flattens it? No, but it does change the shape of it because it manipulated the hair into being pressed down.
@@deltahair Thanks! I kinda wonder if having hat does ruin my skin/hair? since like there's no air getting into my head? Is that true?
How can I get that hari? wahts the measurements?
Not sure, my hair is slightly grown out at this point
Did you thin out your hair with this haircut? I have thick asian hair and it's hard to style
I always thin out my hair to create more space between my hairs since I have a very high density. If your hair is hard to style, I would consider keeping it slightly longer and texturizing it all the way down to your roots
What do you usually get on the sides
In this video I think it’s slightly grown out so I think it’s a 2 on the sides
Anyone know the name of this haircut? Or a celebrity/person who have the same type?
This is kind of a cropped haircut but because my hair gets to be so bristly when it’s really short, I kept the top more mid length
What do I ask to barber to get that haircut/length
Better to show him the video and he’ll have a better idea for length
how long is your hair cause I want mine to hand just around the forehead and not be too short
it's better to communicate that to your barber, they will cut it accordingly
that hairstyle name?
Cropped haircut? Idk. There are so many names that I don’t keep track
What is your hair cut called
2 block crop? Idk. I just cut it so that it works for my hair
I'm just curious but will hair gel work as a good styling product for Asian hair?
Depends on the look. If you want a wet look that doesn’t move, then yes gel can work
@@deltahair ok thanks
Does this actually stay through your the day
Yup, unless you sweat a lot or get rained on
What kind of two block do you have?
I have my hair blended out in the crown but it gets progressively more disconnected at the sides of the head
i gotta find a asian barber who can relate with me :((((((
Is it a rose gold color on you ?
Yes, rose gold
What haicut is yours in this video ?
2 block crop I guess?
Yo man I’m tryna get your haircut so can you make a tutorial please?
If I have someone that wants a similar cut, I’ll record the vid!
@@deltahair yes you should! My hair texture looks exactly like yours. This was like one of the best and most relatable tutorials I have seen in youtube! I’m Hispanic and a lot of Hispanics have that nice curly or wavy hair but my Mayan roots I have such strong straight hair. It was nice seeing someone with a hairstyle and hair type like mine. Mine came pretty close especially cause I have texture cuts in my hair but interested to see how to get a cut like that especially with the front. I usually have to keep it a little long cause my hair shorter just kinda of stands up and is kinda bristly lmao so the front being to king makes the fringe weird but I guess it’s a balance. I think I struggle in the length sometimes but thanks bro!
Did you get that color done at a salon or did you do it yourself?
I did it myself. I don’t recommend doing it by yourself
Dude what is your hair color in the video?
Pastel pink!
can i just have you do this for me
lmao
What u ask your barber for this cut
I cut it myself, so… idk lol
Yo what kind of blow dryer is that
Dyson
Me rikey
I'm german and i have "asian hair " :/
I used Asian Hair in the title for search purposes but yes, there are many people like you and me that have that bristly straight hair
@@deltahair yeah i know that its very common for asian people.
What hair prep did you use? What even is hair prep lmao
If I do that, my hair is going to fall off like crazy lmao
Scrunching your hair doesn’t cause it to fall out but ok
I’m not Asian but my hair looks like this
I know the title says straight Asian hair but there are definitely people out there with my type of hair! It’s just so happens that a lot of Asian people have my hair texture.
@@deltahair yeah my hair is like super straight it won’t move at all
Wow really ?
How tf do I convince my Asian parents to let me get brown highlights cus black hair is hard to see lowkey
Can’t help you with that one. But there is a saying “ask forgiveness, not permission” haha
Hey bro I am confused as fuck. I am South Asian and my hair pretty much look like yours but I was told that this is wavy hair not straight?
99% of hair isn’t completely straight. I’ve only met a handful of people that have pin straight hair.
But let’s say that your hair is wavy but it takes your hair down to your shoulders for it to complete its natural wave pattern. BUT you wear it only 3-4 inches on top. It definitely will look straight and I would register it as straight hair.
My hair is pretty straight at the length shown in the video. But using a diffuser and scrunching my hair, I’m creating bends in the hair to intentionally create more waves/texture
Why tf you wearing a mask
What is "Asian hair"? Do all 4 billion of Asian have the same hair or something?
Not to get into a PC related argument with you but I title my videos based on keyword volume of what people are looking for lol. Don’t know what you get out of trying to pick a fight with random people online
My Japanese ass has a lot of problems with their hair so thank you🥲
