- You have probably heard teams talk about how many employees it takes to operate an F1 team, and how many engineers it takes to run a Formula 1 car on track. We got our Chief Race Engineer Jonathan Eddolls and Head of Vehicle Performance Guillaume Dezoteux to explain what our engineers do trackside while we were in Germany and Hungary, hope you enjoy it!

Ah thanks for showing us their pitwall. Never seen their monitor ever. This is my first time
I love Toro Rosso media team and will miss Alex's vlog by Josh😭😭😭
That message at the end!! AWWWW
thanks toro rosso for explaining all of this
What a great video, thabk you
As an engineering practitioner, I never thought the role perspective of race engineers in f1 is very complex. Kudos and best of luck for these guys for doing a great job and responsibility.
So happy all the teams are getting into YT and social media. Its *so* cool to get a look behind the scenes. There's so much that guess into it!
Being a performance engineer really sounds like an awesome job to do.
This is what makes UA-cam so great. It gives so many insights, where you normally wouldn't get the information unless you work within the team. Great transparency on how the team works together, what everyone does, and on how it's structurally formed.
Subscribed, and thank you for the video. :)
Tgggffffg f gikkiijjjjji
As a aerospace engineer about to graduate this kind of stuff is my dream job, thanks for posting this!
Hey , i am curious on whether an aerospace/aeronautic engineer could turn into an f1 engineer
@@nomadnoparty3243 of course they could! Most F1 teams have a whole aerodynamics team, and if not. An engineer that specializes in fluid dynamics is important for engine airflow, cooling and more!
King T Ive qualified for mechanical engineer and now in a race engineer school about to persue my dream job!
@@Billy-ky6dm Congrats! I graduated and now unemployed haha!
@@xX1Cuddles1Xx I beleive to become a race engineer don't you need to take Automotive engineering, right?
He seemed a bit nervous but did an amazing job explaining everything!
10:05 - OMG its him!! Its the guy!
"P10 GREAT job Alex! Rrrrreally good race!"
Listening to him react to Albons results has been just as entertaining for me as watching Albon himself 😅
Actually, it’s a different guy @ 5:57
@@SkandiFlick oh! Wow how did i not hear that but then think the other guy was him? 🤔 Idk... thanks :)
Still, yeah, what a guy. 2019 F1 MVP if it were up to me.
@@SkandiFlick He's also famous for his "Driver Swap, Driver Swap" in Brazil 2018 :D
@@CraigoZ21 yh his robotic voice is jokes. Well done Brendan remember last year . U ok Brendan
@@CraigoZ21 that was the best one 😂
Nice! Really love this videos where you explain how the team works from another perspective. Enjoyed it. Thanks!
That was a great video. That's for explaining things a lot of us didn't knew about the engineers
great video! Thanks for showing us. Had no idea what was going on in the background during race weekends. Good luck in Spa
Thank You so much Toro Rosso for showing us the trackside and engineering side. Very Informative video.
Huge team - huge work! Thank you for this interesting video!
wow beautiful video..explains the hard work an F1 team has to do every race weekend...GREAT VIDEO!!!
Best engineering video, of all teams, EVER! Well done to all involved! I personally found that fascinating, but I wish you would have explained all the screens at the start of the video. Thanks so much for this inside view of your operations!
as someone getting into F1, this is so awesome to watch! I learned there is so much behind the fast cars that makes the races possible. Grazie Mille!!
Even if other F1 teams has already done similar workplace tours, it's always a pleasure to see these kind of vids. (Works as a nice send-off for Alex as well) 💙
It is amazing to see a team show the world the inner workings of Formula 1, especially to those who are interested to follow a career in F1! Thanks! Forza Toro Rosso!!
I came here after seen the inside story of the 2020 Italian GP, i was intrigued of the calm and coaching words done by Jonathan Eddolls to support Pierre's race engineer Pierre Hamelin when things got very fortuned but it was not recognised by the whole team yet. Great example of updating the situational awareness. This video is a nice inside of how a team operates, thank you..
Would love to take a look a real life look of this operation on track...I work in similar circumstances in the Navy.
Great video. I love when teams do engineering videos.
Nice video! There is lot of work behind the races, these guys have a dream job!
Thanks Toro Rosso for showing us how it happens ! Excellent video
this makes daniil kvyat his 3d place podium finish even more special. this team works damn hard to get maximul result, and maximum result you guys had! i hope you guys will move more in front of the grid because i love daniil kvyat so much! god speed toro rosso!
Great video!!!
This is such a great insight! Please keep making this kind of content, it was nice to know the people behind the sport, coz I can clearly see it now F1 is a team sport 👏👏👏
Ps. I will miss Alex and his vlog 😢
STR UA-cam videos are some of the best in F1. This was a really good video, I'm an engineering student so it was especially interesting.
When i grow i want to be doing work like this, this is my dream. Thx for revealing this to me & everyone
Thanks TR for the inside information .It was interesting
Excellent technical video and no godawful backing track. Great job.
What a amazing content!
great video
I would like more videos like this.
it is very interesting what the rest of the team is doing during the race and what data your specialists are analyzing.
This is interesting, thanks STR for sharing!
Can't imagine how it was 20-30 years ago 🤔 must have been a real "modernisation" era with all these tech.
this is so fun to watch. Thanks Toro Rosso.
This made me seriously think about my career in F1 as an data analyst, Hope I will be one of you guys in few years !
Thank you for the insight! Appreciated.
*_I can’t wait to see you lot at Toro Rosso and Gasly dominate again!_* (๑╹◡╹)ノ"
That aged well
It's amazing what goes on behind the scenes in F1
Pretty detailed video had some good insights
Hi mum!?? Hahaha oh Alex 😂👌
Awesome insights! Thanks a lot!
Excellent video! Ty so much!
Crazy how youtube recommended this to me and the car has the same colors as the ones in the video. Exciting stuff
Great info . Terrific video . Tnx Toro Rosso.
Nice video. No other teams share this much
this is the prime time to put out a technical video like this haha. i miss #RaceWeek so much...
I'm a race engineer student and just found this video amazing! Thanks for sharing these engineering bits!
What is it like to be one and what do you learn in the course. Is it fun? because I would also like to become one in the future. Fingers crossed
Also hope this isn't too late. It is 1 year ago lol
Great video, thank you.
your F1 engineering Master is BACK!
Awesome overall view. Please give us tech geeks some some more about what sensors are used ( pressure transducers, accelerometers, strain gauges, what thermo couples, flow meters, etc).
Unbelievable!!!!! Love It!!!!!
I just love your guys
STR ★★★★★
Really cool video!
Very nice!
Nice presentation of pit lane! By the way, congrats for Alex Albon join to Red Bull.
That was some good presentation 😬
thank you for the informations STR!
Y'alls content 🔥👌
Awesome content for us engineering geeks, thank you! Where do I apply?
i waited for this so long...
wooow. I really need to work in this amazing team!!
15:29 Nice Easter egg to finish the video.
Welcome Back Gasly!
Thank you for the insight, you seemed nervous and said "erm" about 15 million times but other than that you did a good job. I shoukd imagine for somebody who works in the background been asked to talk into a camera to millions of viewers is quite daunting.
brilliant input. thanks toro rosso
Than you for the explanation.
Great teamwork for Alex and Pierre Hemelin
Thank you!
No wonder F1 budgets have blown out...
Great insight none the less.
I want the wallpaper that race engineer's monitor shows!
The best video
Damn, that's a busy weekend.
Great video, by the way i have a question: do every team have some member that analyses telemetry data of other drivers from diferent teams and make conslussions on their true performances including their car problems and making over analysis preformance to car performance? Im curious because that could be handfull if a team considers hiring a new driver that is driving for other team currently. Hm. I know telemetry is available for all teams with data of all teams..
I’m going to my second year mechanical engineering and i hope to god i’m sitting there one day , it’s what i’ve wanted an fought for since i was little
good info. thanks
Thank you!😉
Tnx for the video, just awesome! Are you guys using Motec?
This is super informative & detailed insight into the F1 team working spaces. Question, does Tanabe-san oversees the PU on just the STR side or both the RBR too? When other support races being held, do they use the same electronics stuff yiu guys use on the pit wall or the just borrow the booth space? i would love to see the logistics in setting up these spaces & how you guys store the car’s parts & tools outside of the garage (like in the truck for transporting). Brilliant! Thanks.

Toro rosso killing it this season!
legends
Really cool video. Thanks for doing this behind-the-scenes stuff! :D
I’ve always wanted to do this.
so all of these gets transported to every new track location for every race, right??
so they can ''change'' part during parc fermé? but not change settings? cna you clarify this :)
Good luck to you guys at Toro Rosso with Gasly
Awesome😎👍
Gearbox and system engineer is basically the powertrain engineer? What do they do trackside wise
are we (fans) able to watch those screens at 0:04 during a session?
i cannot wait to become an engineer for an F1 team
Hello!
I was interested in your video. Do you mind if we show a few seconds of video in the TV program "Main Road" on NTV-television, and we indicating your channel?
Will Albon and Gasley get new race engineers? Or will they move with them? I assume they will get new ones, but I think the mutual understanding is very important.
Following - would like to know this as well!
10:51Just like F1 2019 Career Mode!
Is Gasly working with you yet?
Last time i was this early albon wasn’t in the red bull program
Run Windows with mac keyboards.... I like these guys
Gotta get my hands on those Toro Rosso shirts
I’ve always wanted to do this, I’d rather be a race engineer for specific drivers though.
Can someone tell me how the pit lane changes from F2 to F1 so fast during the weekend
There's normally a decent amount of time before F1 sessions and they have quad bikes or carts to take the equipment away quickly.
