This was the last entertaining Dunk Contest. Jason Richardson 2002 dunk contest was alright, but this one puts him up top as the best NBA slam dunk performer of all time, in my opinion. Mason was a beast too.

If we remember what the league has already seen and how surprising and awkward Desmon Mason was, that's why they were bugging at the LEFT HAND between the legs dunk like they were.
They should have had a dunk-off after J-Rich's last dunk. Because D-Mason and J-Rich both had 50s and both had cool dunks. This was probably the best final in a dunk contest ever

yup one of the BEST ever apart from the other guys, mason and richardson REALLY put on a show. But it seems people dont remember this one or dont talk about it. its always the Vince carter contest or wilkins vs jordan, or even the Spud Webb vs Wilkins contests...this is one underrated BIG TIME

Players within their first 3 seasons. this dunk contest was a showcase for J Richardson. this year's only had 3 players, and no Zion. its sad when the top dunkers dont do the dunk contest.
This is still way better than yesterday's and BTW, I could've given the trophy to anyone but Griffin, he didn't deserve to win. Also I still think that Mason's between the legs dunk was the most powerful, and most clean between the legs dunk i've ever seen. Vince was the first to do it and Richardson pulled a more difficult dunk. But today I would still give him a 10 cause of how high he was and how clean and powerful was the dunk

this slam dunk is a close second to carters year against francis and mcgrady. vince/francis, richardson/mason and jordan/wilkins set the standards for an nba slam dunk contest. pure dunks no props needed. blake is a great power dunker but was a big dissapointment. dwight howards year was great, but he was more of a prop dunker too. i dont think the slam dunk contest will ever be what it used to be.
@TFA3000 I know it looks flashier but it's actually harder to pull off a between-the-legs off a dribble then it is off a lob because off a lob it's already up at that level whereas off the dribble you have to bring it up, down, between, and back up. But mostly it's because Mason was higher and jumped from further out...
@jackasstoday Yeah people don't actually watch and see what he was trying. Like 360 between the legs I was pumped up for that, but it's not like I hadn't imagined it before. But his LAST attempt was friggin NASTY! 360 honey dip...how does he even imagine doing that? I'm sure he's done both of em before too otherwise he wouldn't have tried em. Not to mention his off the backboard between the legs. J Rich and VC just dominated the contest in all areas.

this final dunk by jrich is the best dunk I have ever seen, vince carters 360 windmill wasn't a real 360 if you look closely even though it was a great dunk, but jrich's bounce of the floor between the legs reverse with the left goddam hand was a dunk I haven't seen anyone do again, I've seen multiple people do vinces 360 windmill
I don't get how Mason was getting the scores he got for fairly basic dunks. How many people had already done the between the legs before him (Rider, Kobe, Vince, etc) and the commentators were going ape over it?
The way mason leans and uses body movements on dunks is impressive but I agree. However Desmond’s the the best (basic) non bounce or off glas between the legs dunk I’ve seen. It’s was super clean, he brung the ball up to his chest them brought it back down and it was with his left hand. To me it was a 50
