It was a very rewarding & musical event to have played with Buddy DeFranco 2 times on the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1968 & 1973. He was a gentleman & a great jazz Clarinetist & was the best leader I have played for in my musical career. He was always completing me on my sound on all my instruments ( saxes, clarinet & flute). He will be truly missed.
I was lucky enough to know Buddy when I was a child growing up ! He would sometimes practice with my father and I would sit and watch them trying to out note each other. They would laugh so so much they had to stop for fresh air ! Buddy was super talented and a lovely person, caring and very dedicated and knew who his friends were ! Although I doubt anyone disliked him when he started playing ! I miss those practice sessions & the breakfast afterwards as the would start at 5-6 am. RIP Buddy. Xx
Once you hear Buddy DeFranco (if you have any ear) you know this clarinet player was different! Isn't it astounding know that every good musicians paints a different picture..and that's Jazz
for me, one of the great duets in jazz history was Buddy recording with Art Tatum, especially as there were 2 takes of 'Deep Night" which is one of my alltime favorite tunes. They seemed to revel in each other's playing. Well done Norman Granz!!!
I worked with Buddy on and off for 40 years. He was a fantastic player and a wonderful person. I miss you my brother. Ciao Frank DeVito
I can’t watch that enough. Freaking amazing. What a great sound he had 🔥
