15:20 Thanks for these AMAZING intro for Nem Lockdown! I would like to ask some questions about iso room and cargo system. 1. How many players can lock themselves in Isolation room? 2. 1) Any amount of players can lock themselves in isolation. 2) Yes, another player can use a CSS pod on a later turn, but keep in mind, each pod will launch a maximum of two times in the game.
Hey @RTFM! Excellent video, but there is one small correction at 13:23. The Backup Power Supply will always reset the power to {1} and {2} regardless of how many locations are powered. For example, if there is power on {2}, {3}. and {4} and a player uses the Backup Power Supply, only {1} and {2} will be powered by the end of the action. I like to think of it as forgoing the main power in favor of a backup generator, which has limited but more reliable 'power' available.
Played so far 4 full coops (still learning the game) and I love it so much. My only gripe is with the coop objectives which are unclear to say the least. In the end, to save us the trouble of googling stuff while playing we decided to adopt our version of the truth until something official is written by the designers. For example, "Finish the game with intruder carcass". The overarching theme of the full coop is that the "team" gets their objectives which are communal. The only CLEAR explanation is with regards to the signal and how many times it needs to be sent and that it doesn't matter who sent it even if they die it still counts. Everything else is open for interpretation. Do all surviving characters have to finish the game with the carcass? Or anyone (since it's a GROUP effort, why does everyone have to carry a corpse around, one surely should suffice). Then you have objectives such as "EACH character must have knowledge of 5" (or something like that). Okay, each, but what about dead ones? There are some who believe that even dead ones count for this objective. In any case, I find the game challenging enough so we house ruled it to what seemed logical and thematic. ;) Last game we played was so amazing it almost was as if watching a move happening in front of us on the game board.
Thanks for the video tutorial! I would like to see how the 'remove noise token rules where there is power' will change things. Can't wait to play and mix it with the first Nemesis. Also gonna implement: If I blow up the base in Nemesis Lockdown, I get to raise the heat 1 level in Terraforming Mars on my next play of it.
Haven't finished watching this whole video (phenomenal production, BTW, Shea!), but I'm already looking for a used copy to give this atmospheric title a try... 🖖
Ooh, that's a tough one. I do think Lockdown is a little more complex than the original, but I also enjoy it more of the two. If you aren't worried about the slightly higher learning curve, I'd go with Lockdown.
Dude your videos are so good - still waiting for my pledge in Canada, keeps getting delayed but is meant to arrive this week in the dock I believe. So stoked! Also rewatched your TI4 rules summary and my god I want that game but it's almost $200 CAD and idk if it's worth that to play it once a year :S
This video has been super helpful in getting started. After a play through I come up with some questions regarding attacking intruders during the player phase. 1) If you choose to shoot an intruder, does it cost an action card for every shot? Example, I pay one action card to shoot, but I want to keep shooting until the intruder dies, or I use all three of my ammo cubes. Is this possible or can I only shoot twice before the next players turn? 2) The janitors character starts with a weapon that shows a cost of 1 to use. Does this mean you must discard two action cards to shoot once? Then the hacker has a starting weapon that has no cost on the card? Just getting a little confused on the cost to shoot and if you can shoot multiple times or no? 2) some characters
1) The shoot action only gets you one attack, I'm afraid, so you can get a max of two shots per turn. 2) The reason that the janitor's weapon shows a 1 is that it has more abilities than just attacking an enemy. Most guns don't show a card cost because they can only be used for shooting, and the shoot action normally costs 1 card. The pressure washer also just costs 1, regardless of how you use it.
Fantastic explanation! One question... at 30:47, for full coop, aren't the objective cards in a community pool instead of individually assigned? The examples in the rules (page 30) seem to suggest they're part of a pool... that any player can reach knowledge 8 if it's one of the objectives, and (any) 2 players need to send the signal if it's on 2 objective cards, as opposed to just... each player must fulfill their given objective card. I'm hoping they're part of a pool since it seems to be more in line with a fully cooperative mode.
You have it right, the cards are part of a pool. What I'm saying at that point is that you draw the same amount of cards as you have players. Specific players don't need to complete specific missions.
8:00 "Danger means that if there are any Intruders in adjacent rooms that aren't already in combat with another character, move them to your room." This is also a new rule as I understand it.
I have some questions about implementing Aftermath characters in Lockdown, that aren't clear in the Stretch Goal manual. The Bounty Hunter: Does he use his starting item (Rifle 247) in addition to his new quest item(s) (Man's Best Friend)? He clearly doesn't use his other quests, as they are closely linked with hid trait card (which he doesn't use). The Android: Does she use her quests from aftermath (Emergency Energy Cell & Deactivation Module)? The Psychologist/Convict: Do they use their OTHER quests from Aftermath (Occulobe Drone/Augmented Arm) or ONLY the ones replaced/provided with the stretch goal box (Emotional Scanner/Pipe)? The Medic: Does she use her old quests (Combat Drugs & Surgery Kit) in addition to the one provided with the stretch goal box (Needle Gun), or ONLY the Needle Gun from the stretch goal box? The Medic: Does she use her Trait card (this is the one I question the most)? It doesn't state this clearly anywhere, but for now I'm assuming the answer to all these questions is NO. A confirmation would be greatly appreciated though, thanks. Ps. Great video, as always!
There's definitely some stretch goal stuff in there. I'm not sure exactly what because the publishers just sent it all to me, but I know that the Chytrids expansion and some of the extra minis like the doors and the rover were stretch goals. I think the pre-painting was an add-on too.
Hi! Great video and great explanation! I was wondering if you could help my group and me with one question: What is the difference between the "Intruder Event Cards" and "Night Stalker Event Cards"? Which card are you supposed to look at during the Event Phase #9, which during the intruder retreat action?
So the night stalkers are a specific type of intruder. Different types of intruders (Chytrids, Void Seeders, etc) use different decks of event and attack cards, which you'll find during set up. "Intruder event card" is just a generic way of referring to an event card from whatever deck you're using for this game.
Love the music, who is the composer?! Great tutorial! Nemesis is one of my all time favourite board games. Will be putting Lockdown on the table top tomorrow.
A bunch of different ones. They all came from youtube's royalty free library. Their names are Patrick Patrikios, Doug Maxwell, Yung Logos, Matt Harris, and Geographer (though I'm pretty sure those aren't in order)
Might be too late but it would be cool if you made a video on the original nemesis expansions, Carnomorphs, Voidseeders and aftermath. I've had too much trouble actually understanding how Carnomorphs actually work and how to keep them in check.
Unfortunately Carnomorphs is the one expansion I didn't make a tutorial for. I covered Voidseeders and Aftermath, but I had to borrow those copies, and the person I borrowed from didn't have Carnomorphs :/
@@RTFM oh okay thanks. I somehow missed your video about Voidseeders and aftermath. But it's a shame that Carnomorphs didn't get a video. Gotta study the rule book harder then. Keep up the good work.
Unlikely. They're really easy to figure out, so I didn't feel that teaching them was necessary. And they don't have new action decks, just starting quests and a couple other little cards.
6:29 You can discard Contamination Cards when you pass? I've never played with that rule and I couldn't find permission to do it in the original rulebook, though I do see it in the new on page 22. Might want to flash up the raccoon icon when you say that part.
I'm afraid you've been playing Nemesis wrong. The original rulebook doesn't specifically say to discard contamination cards when you pass, but it doesn't say you can't, just that they can't be used to pay for actions. If you couldn't discard them, what would happen if you get five? Eventually you would only have those in your hand and wouldn't be able to do anything else.
When playing on side B, surface of Mars, when the Nightstalkers move via the outside paths, how do they follow the “technical corridors”? Do they get removed from the board?
Yes. Whenever they would move into an area on the Mars surface you follow the same process that happens when they go into the tech corridor. So that would mean removal from the board and their token gets put back in the bag.
So to be clear, does taking the elevator actually take you instantly to the desired elevator room? We thought the rules weren't clear. It says "take the elevator tile and the character(s) and place them NEXT to the desired elevator room, which made me think you still had to take a move action to step off the elevator and then do a noise roll. (But no noise roll for getting into the elevator.)
So you perform a noise roll when you move into the elevator room, but not when you use the elevator to go to a different floor. And then when you get the new floor, you exit the elevator tile as part of the room action. It is a little confusing in the rulebook. I'm pretty sure I had to double check that with the designers when I was writing the script.
Awesome Video. One small thing: If you perform a search action you put the item you did not pick under it's deck (sadly the rulebook uses the term "discard" for that, which could make you believe it lands on the discard pile - it doesn't - only used or dropped items get there)
@@RTFM honestly it's not that big of a deal, never reached the end of any item deck in 20+ games of Nemesis anyway, so the card is "out of the game" either way. You could, in theory, gain some knowledge the others don't have (you now know a card that's out of the game), but it's super unlikely that this would ever have a real impact imo
As far as I know characters from Lockdown cannot be played at the Nemesis ship, but it is possible to play nightstalkers and chytrids on previous Nemesis game?
So with the Chytrids you can do this. There's a backside to their lab board and you just treat every room as being unpowered and in darkness. However, I don't think you can do the same with the Night Stalkers. I'm pretty sure they have cards and such that require the Lockdown map.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the sundrop (painted) version was only available during their Gamefound campaign. The doors I think you can find online with the terrain expansion. It doesn't add gameplay, just fun minis for doors and corpses, etc.
Hello, thanks for the tutorial, just a little question, What should I do with the crewmembers assigned to Research or Production project or crisis? Many thanks for the answer
Hi, sorry for the late response. And apologies but I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. When crewmembers research at the laboratory, they just perform that action. They aren't assigned anywhere. And then I don't know what the production project or crisis you mentioned is in this game. Nothing here uses those exact terms.
Just started playing this game, got my head round most of the main rules, flowing through. But there never seems to be enough turns in solo play to be able to do everything/anything. Trying to establish the best way to modify to make it slightly fairer. More item cards and possibly draw 6/7 cards. This game can end in one event phase
I just ordered this game on Amazon a few days ago, im too excited waiting for it! But im confused, do the Chytrids aliens come with the game? Or are they a seperate expansion?
The Chytrids were a stretch goal expansion, so I don't think they'll be part of the base game if that's what you got. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how they're selling it though.
@@RTFM yea did a little research since watching and they come in the Stretch Goals box, so one would need to purchase both Nemesis Lockdown and Stretch Goals boxes to have everything. Thanks though! I'm a slow learner so I have to keep rewatching to learn how to play but I don't mind, absolutely love the videos! Excellent work!
This is actually the "sundrop" version of the minis that Awaken Realms offers during their campaigns. It might be possible to get it at retail, but I don't know for sure.
When there are multiple combats going on the board or multiple aliens attacking, do you draw an attack card for each alien or do we draw one attack card which applies to everyone?
Great video as always. That said, I don't know if it's just on my end but there was something weird about the sound having some high pitch distortion that made it quite annoying to listen to the whole thing.
Other people have mentioned this, so it's not just you. However I've listened with multiple headphones/speakers and I just don't hear it. Quick question though, is this sound you're hearing constant, or does it only come through occasionally when I speak? Because if it's the latter, that's not distortion, that's just a thing my voice does.
@@RTFM When you talk... I hear it at 6:25-6:28 a lot, for exemple (though I hear it more on some sound devices than others). It sounds like a high pitch whistle. I have a hard time believing it's not due to recording distortion or your mic being so sensitive it's picking up on some subtle breathing noises, but maybe your voice does that weird thing audibly in real life, I don't know ^^' ... Hope I didn't offend you if that's the case.
@@psilo4546 Ah, yeah I'm afraid that is just a throat noise. It may have been exacerbated by the mic being a little too close, but my voice does just do that sometimes. I've found a good audio editing technique to deal with it though, so it shouldn't be present in future videos. No worries about offending me, it is definitely a weird thing to have happen.
i got some questions , all old nemesis crew are determined as survivor . they use their original action deck, they started without starting items so characters like scout can't use some action cards that require minus ammo cuz scout don't have starting item which is a weapon and provide her ammo right? that said there's some action card that scout can't use in he action deck .how will it works?
It seems, there is a mistake in the Mars Surface setup. Room 016 is on the serface and so the surface exploration tocken should be used instead of the normal one.
I think you skipped the elevator in the special rooms section of the video. Is that covered somewhere else in this video? (I'm playing right now and don't have time to watch the whole video.) Thanks!
If possible could you clear up the Contingency setup when doing Cooperative mode? I don't understand after setting out the active one (face down) it says to draw one and flip it over... and put it somewhere? Also all of these seem bad... so why in Coop would you want to "kill anyone who sent signal"? Thanks!
Contingencies aren't something that the player characters are doing, they're a dangerous element that the corporation you work for is imposing on you. So even in coop mode, you still have to contend with that. The one you flip over represents your groups knowledge of what won't happen, and you'll want to gain more intel on the other face down contingencies in order to determine the active one by process of elimination.
So is there anything unique to the Nightstalkers besides the ambush being stronger in the dark areas? Carnomorphs and Voidseeders had really unique gameplay but the nightstalkers don't seem any different from the classic Intruders .
The Nightstalkers are more akin to the classic intruders, you're right. That's what they're meant to be though. Because Lockdown is a standalone game, they're don't have anything wildly different, but they work well with the new map and rules. I guess the other big difference is how their weaknesses are researched.
The Chytrids aren't in the base box, but other than that, yes. However I don't think they'll have the wash paint on them. That may have been a kickstarter/deluxe version only.
You only use the surface cards when playing with the surface side of the board, otherwise you don't use those cards. And they are supposed to be kept separate.
@@RTFM i figured it out, one event deck is for the intruders from the first game and the other deck is for the night stalkers that come with the lock down game. Nothing in the rule book explains this so it took some scooby dooing
Had my first playthrough the other day and we quickly turn on the backup power (Time token on blue) and it stayed like that till game ended. Lucky or isent there any stuff that turns it red again?
If you end your turn in a room with fire, and then pass, that ends your turn meaning you take a light wound. Wouldn't you take another light wound during the end of the round effects, one of which is fire damage?
I now had the chance to play the first round of lockdown, and following questions came up while playing: Sentry Action Facility tour. It basically says move to another room you may ignore the events of the exploration token. So I do not have to place a fire/malfunction marker in the rrom? Or does it only ignore slime/silence/danger? An event card placed a larva on all the characters in the dark. It was not mentioned if they also get a contamination card. But I figured this would be the case, just like if a larva attacked the characters. You think that's how it was intended? And would all characters have died if they already have had a larva? I remember that I somewhere read, that a character dies as soon as he somehow gets a second larva, but I am unable to find that passage again. If I have a corprate mission to ensure s player does not survive. Does it count for me if this character dies because of the contingency or contaminations at the end of the game? If the self destruct is triggered and the base explodes. Does the nest an queen count as destroyed/killed even if they are not on the Board? And does this fullfill my mission to destroy the nest or kill the queen? Don't know if this is really the right place for those questions, nevertheless I hope someone can answer that :) Great video btw!
Facility tour: ignore all exploration events, fire included. Larva event card: not 100% sure, but I'd read it as getting attacked by a larva, meaning you'd get a contamination, but wouldn't die if there was already a larva there. You only die from a 2nd larva if it was obtained through infection. Corp mission: yep, any way they die will count towards your mission. Self destruct: yes, this destroys the queen and her nest even if it hasn't been found. hope that helps!
Good question! One of those event decks is for the intruders from the original Nemesis. You'll only use that deck if playing on the Lockdown board with the original intruders. If you're playing a standard game of Lockdown, you'll use the Night Stalker event deck. The manual shows which is which in the component section.
35:04 This made my decision to skip the chytrids all together. The fungi playstyle is ok but seems bland. Plus they seem very fiddly and not really worth the extra work vs the normal aliens. Thank you for saving me money! I am no longer interested in adding these to Nemesis OG game
On page 13 it says that you skip it on the first round. It'd be kind of pointless to hand it to someone and then have them pass it before doing anything else.
Lately, for some reason, I have. The person that people compare me to tends to cycle. For a while it was Jake Gyllenhaal, then Jason Schwartzman. I just tell people I look like a lot of white guys with dark hair. Thanks though!

8:00 "Danger means that if there are any Intruders in adjacent rooms that aren't already in combat with another character, move them to your room." This is also a new rule as I understand it.
I remember that rule being in the original Nemesis.
I think you have it right. General rule of thumb is that you replace cards with the new ones. You don't add on to what they had.
Great video! Were any of the items used from the stretched goals, or were they all just standard in the box?
There's definitely some stretch goal stuff in there. I'm not sure exactly what because the publishers just sent it all to me, but I know that the Chytrids expansion and some of the extra minis like the doors and the rover were stretch goals. I think the pre-painting was an add-on too.
Another great video! Thx mate.
Great video !!! Can’t wait to play it! Can I ask why you don’t record in 4K ?
4K cameras are expensive
Immediate like for Terraforming Mars cross over!
Thanks for this video! Where did you get the door upgrades from?!
Awaken Realms sent them to me with the game. They were a kickstarter bonus, so I don't know if they're still available.
Hi! Great video and great explanation! I was wondering if you could help my group and me with one question:
What is the difference between the "Intruder Event Cards" and "Night Stalker Event Cards"?
What's the song from the intro? I love it just as much as the intro it was over, great voice acting there!
Thanks! It's called Light Years Away by Doug Maxwell.
Which gaming table do you have? Loving the green topper!
Great video, any chance you'll put out a video to show the updated Nemesis aftermath character cards that came with the stretch goals?
Unlikely. They're really easy to figure out, so I didn't feel that teaching them was necessary. And they don't have new action decks, just starting quests and a couple other little cards.
W guide
Great stuff!
Would I be right in saying there is no way for the contingency token to be changed?
Correct
Thanks for the video Shea.
Was that transition music from Mass Effect? Sounded familiar
It wasn't (I get all my music from youtube's audio library) but I probably subconsciously picked it because it sounded like that :D
Nice review!
Hope to see my german version soon too.
I'm pretty sure I had to double check that with the designers when I was writing the script.
super tuto
Awesome Video. One small thing: If you perform a search action you put the item you did not pick under it's deck (sadly the rulebook uses the term "discard" for that, which could make you believe it lands on the discard pile - it doesn't - only used or dropped items get there)
Oh, yeah. I always forget that rule. Even in the original Nemesis I would just make a discard pile. I'll add a note, thanks.
"hey your not supposed to do that, but I'm not your dad" 🤣 I may have just wet myself 🤣
Great video mate. Could you tell me where to buy this version with the golden aliens and the miniature door?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the sundrop (painted) version was only available during their Gamefound campaign. The doors I think you can find online with the terrain expansion. It doesn't add gameplay, just fun minis for doors and corpses, etc.
Hello, thanks for the tutorial, just a little question,
What should I do with the crewmembers assigned to Research or Production project or crisis?
Many thanks for the answer
Hi, sorry for the late response. And apologies but I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. When crewmembers research at the laboratory, they just perform that action. They aren't assigned anywhere. And then I don't know what the production project or crisis you mentioned is in this game. Nothing here uses those exact terms.
Turns out, "chytrid" is a real word. It is "Any fungus of the phylum Chytridiomycota." It is apparently pronounced "KIE-trid."
Oh cool! Thanks!
What's the technique that your minis were painted with? They look sick!
You draw a new card for each instance of combat.
The scout would have to find a weapon with ammo in order to use those cards.
Man I wished I had pledged this
There is a prototype version on tabletop simulator. I'm sure a full version will come at some point on there.
It seems, there is a mistake in the Mars Surface setup. Room 016 is on the serface and so the surface exploration tocken should be used instead of the normal one.
Ah, quite right! I've added a note. Thanks for the spot!
I think you skipped the elevator in the special rooms section of the video. Is that covered somewhere else in this video? (I'm playing right now and don't have time to watch the whole video.) Thanks!
13:55
@@RTFM ah my bad. Thanks! I skipped to "Room Actions (basic) and didn't see the others.
Please tell me where I can buy this boradgame table, thanks.
It's called the Dresden, and you can get it at bandpassdesign.com/
I also did a full preview of it over on Rahdo's channel if you want a closer look.
@@RTFM thank you! That helps
Do you get all the shown minies in the core lockdown box?
The Chytrids aren't in the base box, but other than that, yes. However I don't think they'll have the wash paint on them. That may have been a kickstarter/deluxe version only.
Why are there two event decks? is one for the surface side? are you just supposed to shuffle them together?
You only use the surface cards when playing with the surface side of the board, otherwise you don't use those cards. And they are supposed to be kept separate.
@@RTFM i figured it out, one event deck is for the intruders from the first game and the other deck is for the night stalkers that come with the lock down game. Nothing in the rule book explains this so it took some scooby dooing
@@Biggun762 Ah, that's what you were talking about. Glad you got it sorted! And yeah, it's weird that that's not in the rulebook.
after the intruders take fire damage do i still gotta check an attack card for each enemy?
Yes, fire can kill intruders so you should draw a card each time they take fire damage.
I'm guessing there's only one matching CSS token per CSS Room Tile? And it only activates once the round marker triggers the reveal. Yes?
There's also a CSS token that launches all pods, but otherwise yes, you have it correct.
@@RTFM Thanks!
Had my first playthrough the other day and we quickly turn on the backup power (Time token on blue) and it stayed like that till game ended. Lucky or isent there any stuff that turns it red again?
There are event cards that can flip your time token back to red, but you aren't guaranteed to hit them.
If you end your turn in a room with fire, and then pass, that ends your turn meaning you take a light wound. Wouldn't you take another light wound during the end of the round effects, one of which is fire damage?
The fire damage step only affects the intruders and the nest, not the players. They only take fire damage during their turn like you said.
I now had the chance to play the first round of lockdown, and following questions came up while playing:
Sentry Action Facility tour.
Don't know if this is really the right place for those questions, nevertheless I hope someone can answer that :)
Great video btw!
@@RTFM Wow thanks a lot for those answers! So the tour card of the sentry is pretty strong at the start of the game, at least in my opinion :)
@@MarcelloAlbretto It's definitely strong, though when you use it and ignore a silence, it will make you cry a little bit.
@@RTFM True! Had this once while moving care full.. silence on the event but you nevertheless have to put the noise marker down :/
Have a question, there are two event decks. When do we use each?
www.twitch.tv/thedropship
Good question! One of those event decks is for the intruders from the original Nemesis. You'll only use that deck if playing on the Lockdown board with the original intruders. If you're playing a standard game of Lockdown, you'll use the Night Stalker event deck. The manual shows which is which in the component section.
@@RTFM thanks so much
very good video, could you please activate the automatic subtitles? thanks
Thanks! The auto-subtitles are already available in English. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to turn them on.
@@RTFM Thank you very much for the reply. I would like to be able to see them in Spanish. A greeting from Spain.
35:04 This made my decision to skip the chytrids all together. The fungi playstyle is ok but seems bland. Plus they seem very fiddly and not really worth the extra work vs the normal aliens. Thank you for saving me money! I am no longer interested in adding these to Nemesis OG game
I believe, You do not skip moving 1st player marker in first round
On page 13 it says that you skip it on the first round. It'd be kind of pointless to hand it to someone and then have them pass it before doing anything else.
lol, "anyone want this corpse I found" 😆
I always said it. You could be Ryan Goslings brother! I’m sure you are hearing that all the time
Lately, for some reason, I have. The person that people compare me to tends to cycle. For a while it was Jake Gyllenhaal, then Jason Schwartzman. I just tell people I look like a lot of white guys with dark hair. Thanks though!
Is there still player elimination in this expansion? As in..if die early, that player just sits out and watch for next 2 hours
There is, though in my experience it's pretty rare for a character to die until much closer to the end of the game. Definitely not impossible though.
@@RTFM in the first game theres an option to carry the dead body to med bay to revive. Can you do that in lockdown?
@@harimakenji7608 In the fully coop mode there is revival, but I'd say you could house rule that into the regular mode if you want to.
