Thanks and great to have you back being creative. I have used forest collected wood without disaster and the Wilton Store of Maidenhead Aquatics (of all chains) has a female staff member (sorry forgotten her name) who is quite gifted in black water aquascapes incorporating native woods. Convenient to you Owain for an afternoon trip. I live in Newbury so it's hardly my local shop, but was very good on my last visit, exceptional actually for planted tanks. Bonsai trees are a real challenge when alive and personally too contrived for me, dead they still don't 'float my boat' but a great video, as was your fast delivered recent one explaining lighting. I think the treatment you used was perhaps excessive. And I have successfully killed algae on the tips of Java Fern with bleach, 10% solution, quick 20 second dip then rinse well and then soak for 24 hours in clean water before returning to the aquarium, but inadequate CO2, Phosphate and excessive harsh blue light caused the problem, i.e. lack of proper attention from me!
I have collected dead wood branches - scrape the bark, , the 'thumbnail test', as gardeners do to check if the frost or a draught has killed a bush, if no green, then dead - then boiled them and had no problems (well apart from the amount of lead strip to make them sink), mainly beech and sweet chestnut, and even oak (which is supposed to be toxic), acorns would I suspect not be safe, but the dried leaves seem fine. Some white fungus occurs sometimes initially. Generally, thoroughly naturally wind dried and sun browned late autumnal leaves collected and added after a quick wash under the hot tap, seem to be pretty good at helping to address algae problems and a micro fauna soon establishes which many lower water region fish enjoy hunting in the leaf litter. Again I have used mainly beech. Gives very jungle style debris look to a tank. Thanks again.

I also made a bonsai tree with pieces of aquarium wood that was a bit plain looking. I'm no youtuber but I made a little video to share my process incase anyone wanted to try for themselves. I used christmas moss with fishing line, glue and wool. Stay awesome dude and thank you for all you do for the fish hobbyists

Should I separate Hygrophilia Pinatifida in my tissue culture or keep it intact and attach it to my hardscape? Lastly , if you suggest top of the water , close to my light , closer to substrate ? Also if you have any extra input I bought 2 Dwarf baby tears never used them before and I am hoping to get them to grow on the hardscape too....( Thank you for the
Hey Hey! Glad you've been enjoying my playlists during the hiatus. Really excited to be back in action with this new Spring season. Some good'uns on the horizon.
I don't have any experience with Hygrophilia Pinatifida I'm afraid. But I know it grows well as an epiphyte similar to the Bolbitis that I use a lot in my aquariums. I would seperate out the tissue culture and then use glue or thread to attach to your hardscape. It seems to do best in high light situations, so I would aim for mid or upper areas of your hardscape. With the baby tears, I would use glue to attach to the hardscape, and make sure you are injecting Co2. It might take a while to adapt its roots, so patience is key and you might get a bit of melting to begin with. But it will take hold eventually. Hope that helps!
@@AquariumShed That definitely has & the information on both the plants!....Precisely what my instincts were telling me too. I have been floating the baby tears for the last week and so far I am noticing that the roots have finally started to get white and plentiful in my newest aquarium and I do inject with my 1st regulator and I bought a UNS mini and a paintball cylinder. Thanks again for the guidance and I am starting to get everything looking ready for my next purchase and I am patiently waiting to order 5 Orinoco Angels from Jack Watley Discus and the next day I will be picking them up from the Minneapolis Airport !!!!! 1st time again and today I will be buying as many Black , Green and Rummynose that I can afford w/ $220 , then I will always have the clean up crew Nerites. Amano and Ottocinclus are hopefully going to be able to go with the Altum juveniles
