    I just pulled my old AC out of my 1999 Roadtrek. You had to move it inch by inch to remove. Maybe a half hour of effort, but carefully and did not tear the ceiling cover. The wood shims on the side were screwed in to the AC unit and I had to work a hacksaw blade through each screw to remove shim prior to removing the AC. All in all, success! Now will search for power efficient unit similar to your LG. I thank you for your details noted, it helped me!

      Thanks glad i was able to help. Getting the old out was the hard part. Keeping the ceiling from tearing you had to be careful. The unit we got is working very well.

    We have a 2001 Versitile 200 on a Chevy chassis which we bought from the original owner with about 25,000 miles in 2007. I am on my third replacement AC. Access has always been through the back removing the roof panel and grill. The original AC was glued in with gobs of black silicon caulk and held in place with a small aluminum angle iron.
    My current means of installation may be of interest to some. After removing the old AC and cleaning up the mess, I cut a piece of 3/4 inch CD plywood as large as I could comfortably fit covering the hole for the AC. This was used to block off the hole to keep the critters out until the new AC was installed. On the outside of the hole, I put adhesive backed foam weatherstripping to get a good seal. With the plywood in place, I marked the AC opening with a sharpie from the inside. To hold the plywood in place, I basically put four screws in the corners just inside the marking using fender washers. So I had the fiberglass of the body sandwiched in between the fender washer on the inside and the plywood on the outside with foam weatherstripping making a seal between the plywood and fiberglass.
    What I actually did is find some 1/4-20 machine screws with heads about an inch in diameter and used those instead of fender washers. These screwed into metal inserts which were coarse threaded into the plywood. I found all this on Amazon. It works well and makes a good seal.
    To mount the AC, I removed the plywood and, staying within the aforementioned markings, I cut a hole for the AC. I used several machine bolts across the top of the AC to bolt the AC to the plywood which acted as a frame or an adapter to mount the AC in place. This arrangement allows me to quickly and easily remove and replace the unit and maintain a good seal without using caulk.
    Since most window AC units run the fan all the time and just kick on the compressor for cooling, I replaced the thermostat for the existing heater with a cheap digital thermostat which also accommodates cooling. Through Amazon, I got a 24volt transformer, 240v contactor, project box, and short extension cord. With these, I am able to set the cooling or heating temp I want and have power to the AC switched on and off by the contactor controlled by the 24v signal from the thermostat. The AC is permanently set on high fan and max cooling.

    My AC was glued to the baffles and I had to rip them out when I replaced mine. Also had to find hidden screws everywhere! It came down to brut force. It came out in pieces. 2002D190P. Replaced with a 5000 btu unit that fit with room to spare. Had to cut a bigger hole for the plug too. It was such a pain in the rear for the whole process.

  • @doran53
    @doran53 Рік тому

    I noticed the that the bottom of the LG has a couple little legs that will eventually cut through the roof so I put a strip of hi-density foam under the front and back to lift the unit a bit. It will also absorb vibrations. I used thicker foam in the front to keep the front tilted up a tad.

      There is some chalking that some models have that you have to break loose. Some have to take the grill off the outside back to push it loose. I was lucky and was able to pull it out.

    Hi, Great video for me to watch as I'll be doing the same project. One thing you didn't elaborate on. How is the unit secured. The old unit screwed from the inside to the side walls. Also, it looks like there's a gap on both sides. Did you fill that gap with insulation and a filler piece of wood? Thanks for the help.

    • @LuckyDawgProductions

  • @hillanthonyvideo

    Did you go into the back side and reseal the baffles to the A/C unit? If not, you may be losing some efficiency as the hot gas leaving the back of the unit shirt circuits around to the intakes on the side.

I wish the Midea 8000 btu invertor ac is awesome its H 13.26 in, W 21.9 in, D 19.17 in. I have a 1999 Roadtrek 190 Popular. The old unit was a Fedders M/N: A6Q10F2A rated at 10k BTU 1020 WATTS and 9 AMPS. I just spent the last few hours looking for a A/C unit with a 12 inch Height and I didn't find anything in 10k BTU. I did see the the LG LW1019IVSM I would like your feedback on that unit. Yes, the A/C should be compatible with the generator. Don't run anything else while the A/C is running on the generator. Too much of a pull. Thanks so much for watching, Gary.
