I have such an addiction to this podcast and it’s the only one I listen to because sometimes I get a little sad and they make me laugh so hard so I find myself searching for the new episode every day!
I think what I love most about Jerry Seinfeld is how seamless, comfortable, and hilarious his comedy is!! I really loved this whole interview!! Great jobs y'all!! ❤
GO SEAN FOR SPEAKING YOUR MIND AND....JERRY FOR REALLY MAKING SENSE OF JUST what a comedian does...I love the dialogue...everybody can just have an opinion
Jerry can handle people disagreeing with him and can handle a calm debate. I remember watching him on Colberts show after the Bill Cosby scandal and they had a good discussion about divorcing art from the artist even though they disagreed. For what it's worth I think Sean had a point. Most people who are capable of critical thought can realise that comedy routines are not a design for life but some people are so impressionable about someone who makes them laugh they actually take some things literally
I was living under a rock and just found out about this podcast. GOLD. And as a bonus you have an hour long convo with my fav comedian? Highlight of the month.
I can appreciate both point of views in regards to comedians educating people. I feel both views are valid as Jerry’s sitcom gave us great entertainment without making any particular statement, education or point of view whereas Sean was on a sitcom with openly gay principal characters in mainstream tv…
I agree with Sean. I’ve found that listening to Jerry, Chapelle, Chris Rock, etc, has helped me look at something from another side. Not necessarily change my mind, but offer a lighter, and possibly less confrontational explanation of another perspective.
I’m so Glad you said this because I really don’t agree with what Jerry said you know I think comedy and comedians can be enlightening n show you that other side I think they do have the power to change your money can be influential I love Hasan Minhaj I think he does that well. Idk I’m a little disappointed by this episode I was so excited hear Jerry his standup is so good, love his show but this was bland on here. I wish he would just like lean into it.
I fully agree. In recent years I've been turned off by Jerry's focus on his wealth and privilege. He doesn't realize that we need comedians to break down barriers and promote a more just society. Not that every comedian can do that successfully, but the ones who do are likely getting through to a crowd who may not respond to that education in any other way except through humor.
@@pmbbmp Wow, talk about being presumptuous. It's nice of you to defend the rich and famous, but I've chosen to spend the past two decades defending those who are most in need of our mercy: the trillions of animals who are jailed, tortured, and eaten by humans who presume that it's their right to take their lives. So when you wrote: "And that if you feel some change needs to be made [in] society that maybe YOU should be the one going out and trying to make that change..." well, that's exactly what I've done with my life. I've forgone paid work and instead volunteer my time at college campuses, city councils, humane societies, concerts venues, etc. sharing the message of kindness and nonviolence and feeding people tasty plant-based foods. I never said that my worldview is the solution to all society's ills, so no, I'm not "shocked" as you presumed. I will say though, that besides sparing animals a life of pain, if people would stop eating animals we could use the grain that animals eat to feed starving people, put a huge dent in stopping the environmental devastation that goes along with animal agriculture, and create a more just and compassionate world overall. ♥️
@@pmbbmp It seems as though you were defending him--taking time out of your life to write a diatribe with a lot of angry, accusational "YOU" language toward me when you don't know me at all and made a lot of assumptions about me. Would have been nice to get an apology instead of more accusations. (Maybe you just hate poor people?) I can't recall which episodes of Comedians in Cars, or stand up, or talk shows he's been on that had me arrive at that opinion of him a couple of years ago. I know he said something that caused me and others to believe he thinks he's superior/a chosen one because he's rich and if one is poor it is because they are not chosen. Hope that answers your question. Don't want to waste any more time on you or this discussion. Have a compassionate day. ♥️
Not sure if any of you actually read these but Will is hands down the funniest and many times the best prepared host, " Let me inform you on your government, BTW I'm from Canada"
:) great episode. To clarify that wasn’t a typo that’s supposed to be smiley face. Feeling pretty clever. Feel free to use that one. My gift to you. Thanks for all the laughter.
Sean is right, in every activity, not only art, a mere conversation, we can allways reach to people and make them look at things in a different way that we might not see it otherwise, or showing sthg new and unknwon that can open our views and head and not just on trivial funny things a la "Seinfeld". Being music, literature, comedy, drama anything. But Jerry is a product of the 90's, that was my youth time and was pretty entertaining in many series etc, but also pretty shallow, cynism is funny, but it's not the end of it all and also not few times helps to establish pretty evil agendas. I also agree what jerry says that the absurd, the insanity that implies the absurd is funny shit as hell, but like Sean tried to say, it's not black and white.
I loved this show! I have a funny story..My mom and I went to see Jerry at PPAC a while back. Our first comedy show..we had seats but when you left the show all you could see was about a hundred different Jerrys..like a collage lmao..seriously though..it was so weird..lol
I came here cause I thought there would be video lol. I wanted to see if Jason was smiling when he said they would get no food if they didn't have a funny story lol
Ha! When someone asks me to do something or asks for something, like a cashier trying to get me to donate to the tragedy of the week, my response is "Nah, I'm trying to quit". The look on someone's face when they ask you to donate to end child starvation or whatever and I say that, I get the funniest looks from people's faces. If it doesn't make them laugh they're usually at a loss for words and that's my chance to get the hell out of there.
My cold water regiment from pop culture will forever be Mommy Dearest -- Joan Crawford's ice on the face! Notwithstanding her evil mothering techniques, brilliant beauty tip!
Great episode! I love the idea that comedians are the most judged performers/people. Every 11 seconds, the audience tells you if you're succeeding or not. I also agree that many comedians these days are like preachers of ideology/philosophy who want to persuade us of their point of view. That's especially true of the late-night show hosts. That stuff is not funny to me. Just give us funny stories and jokes. Again, great episode.
The comedian as a philosopher thing goes back to Lenny Bruce in the 50's, which is directly where George Carlin got it. It may be polarizing, but it's not a new thing by any stretch, it's been part of comedy for decades.
The most hilarious thing on this episode is you guys doing an AD break and talking about the health benefits and such with AG1 and then immediately going into an AD for McDonalds. That's some funny sh*t.
It was Norm Macdonald that talked about comedians being philosophers. Sean you are definitely right. If you do Jerry's jokes, no definitely you are not teaching anybody anything, but what about Carlin?
Love Seinfeld, love Curb... always thought Jerry's attitude on stand up was shite. He just doesn't get it because he's a sober, rich tighty-whitey with no edge or depth.
Had not heard Jerry for quite a while. So soothing to hear him. Familiar like a the family member I will do love & always love him. "Need the insanity more than the data.". That's it ‼️. The insanity ~ exactly ~ politics are exhausting & who really cares ~ you vote o.k But the stream of the insanity of situations ~ characters from everyday life ~ that's new fresh daily ~ that's the insanity ~ like Jerry's show ~ what the characters would do or would observe people doing or getting entangled with them ~ priceless ~ so Jerry is always in his show ~ jotting observations down somewhere if but only in his mind ~ What a welcome voice ~ Jerry ~ the outside the inside just disappear ~ Jerry's here ~ safe & at home Jerry's here ~ 🏡🛋️📺
Hmm. To Jerry saying that Comedians do not change people opinions. Bill Hicks was absolutely persuasive changed my opinion about LIFE as a whole on multiple levels. Funny and enlightening. It's just a ride.
Jason with the ‘no one would begrudge helping them get their foot in the door’ yeeaaaah they would. Especially when that foot can afford to be covered in Prada and most people can’t even get into the car park outside ‘the door’ People do understand that nepotism is practically built into the business at this point, but that doesn’t mean it should be. Especially when these babies still don’t get it (yeh your talented that’s not the point) When it comes down to it… Fran Lebowitz said it best “getting in the door is pretty much the entire game”
Thank you Jerry! I agree with your wife, my husband is not my best friend. I absolutely hate that shit whenever I hear that. My god… my girlfriends are my best friends. My husband is my life long partner, the love of my life, two different things ❤.
I understand that not having this podcast video recorded has its pros, and I'll always listen. But I'd be chemically dependent if you guys ever decided to go visual.
Jerry is a legend but he’s pretty stuck in his opinions. He’s earned that position I guess but Sean was right. Jerry’s style of comedy is very safe. Nothing edgy that could upset the audience. Therefore he’s pretty safe to have a long career. Larry David deals with all topics in the world. Big n small and he’s a better writer/comedian for it. Oh and another thing. I noticed Jerry didn’t say, ‘I hope it’s funny’. He says, ‘it will be funny’. That’s self belief for you.
