@@ECPPAs I have said earlier, I bought a 2011 BMW X3/F25 30d with 246,000 km on the clock at the end of January. Except once in 12 years the oil have been changed exactly at every 30,000 km... The big problem is that the first owner dives 80-120,000 km (in my case at 125,000 km). In Sweden BMW and the like sell about 80 % as leasing cars to companies, and the employees can drive cheaper than if they buy the same car themselves. No one cares about what happens with the car after 150,000 km/ 90,000 miles. Most of the people that buy a car for themselves don't realise the that the dealers are lying about the importance of "suitable" maintenance. Mark, excellent video about caring for your car, especially now that most people can't afford to buy a new one. Folks should take more satisfaction out of keeping a good car running for a long time and keep it looking nice. I've got a 13 year old Mustang GT with 180,000 miles and the engine runs great. That was great ! As Scotty says, "Oil is cheap, Engines are expensive". I guess a new engine starts at what, $10,000 ? You'll buy a lot of oil and filters for that
The oil doesn't really break down , it's the additives that do. If you get blow by from a turbo and fuel dilution changing the viscosity of the oil you need to change more often.
You bet thanks for sharing and yes, additives as well as generally wear within the engine results in sludge. How about those direct injected engines putting trace fuel into oil as well
yep! many great engine makers even, are having this issue in the past 5-10 yrs plus. Even Honda, so i'd change all brands of cars at least twice as frequently. So many engine failures now w/ older Korean and other makers
Frequent oil and filter change …… pay attention to abnormal sounds, warning lights……. Avoid unneeded weight…… keep service maintenance up to date ( coolant brakes, filters etc ) …….change timing belts as recommended….. warm up / cool down.

I daily drive a 2017 Nissan 370Z that I intend to keep forever. I change the oil every 3,000-3,500 miles with the special synthetic ester oil that it calls for. Overkill? Perhaps, but definitely cheaper than a new engine.
I own two older BMWs and they still run great following the tips you stated. Consider investing in a code reader. Good way to see what a code means and you may be able to service the car yourself. Great video!
I had a 2006 bmw 3 series had 8 problems in my 7 year ownership of the car bought the 2020 BMW 320i motorsport and have never had an issue the twin turbo B48 engine is definitely a beast 😊
Good advice for any motorist and I practise these tips. I change out the oil at 15000km’s (10000 miles) per OEM recommendations. What I need to know is if the cars only does 5000km, is it necessary to change the oil annually ? Looking at our local market, the non-turbo sedan is DEAD! On the RPM range tip, this depends on the cars engine capacity. A V8 or V6 can be used within the 1500-2500rpm for city driving, but a 4 cylinder operates between 2500-3500rpm. It also depends on whether it’s a 1.8, 2.0 or 2.4L. The lower the cubic capacity, the more RPM one needs to pull away. Well done with this video Mark. These tip videos are informative
Consider Lubralon as well. One treatment makes your engine last longer because it decreases metal friction by coating the surfaces. Cheap at 50.00 a treatment once every 50K or so. Also a version for your transmission, auto or manual. I have used it for years. Available online.
OMG that is a nice neighborhood you are filming in. Fancy houses and cars in the background. Is that a Porsche 996 in the frame at about 7:42 to 7:48? I think so! I have one just like it only a C2 coupe... not a cabrio (which should be avoided). Fantastic car last of the true analog narrow body NA engine Porsches, and mine is a manual. It gets Liqui Moly 5w40 at regular intervals. BTW IMS BFD.
Thanks for sharing and yes the 996 has special requirements and things to pay attention to like the IMS bearing and watch for metal particulate at each oil service. Clutch change should include the IMs uodate

One word…Duralube. I’ve added it to the oil in every car I’ve own since 1995 and never had engine problems. Once my Mazda had a coolant leak and I was in the middle of nowhere. I drove to the nearest town with the water temp redlined …..and had no engine damage.
All my vehicles get fresh oil between the 3rd and 4th thousand mile of last change. Sometimes it was ready. Some of my friends and family think I'm paranoid mostly because the engines require 7 to 9 quarts each and it's fine. It keeps me under the hood which allows me to detect any developing problems. The 3 or 4 thousand also comes with every 6 months stipulation. I had changed the oil on my Explorer with less than a thousand miles on that cycle because it hit the 6 month mark.
Another thing on oil, retailers tend to recommend & sell expensive oils like Castrol as being the best oil, not true. These recommendation often ignore the importance of viscosity, with most being thick and heavy for the everyday engine use. Those expensive Castrol are for race cars with high revs during use.excellent vid

When this man talks about vehicle longevity you better pay attention if you want to extend the life out of your vehicle. I claim so because I personally know a man with a bit over 800.000 miles on his SUV and he speaks of exact same contributing factors as this man does here on this valuable channel.
Tell me, I did my own oil change used the recommended oil and filter but not the KIA motor oil and filter. The next oil change the dealer did it. Why does it appear the engine ran smoother with the dealer oil and filter? Or is it in my head?
Hi I have a 1997 Corolla 4afe engine, do I have to do an Italian tune up, the car does not have VVT but it’s fuel injected (though it uses a distributor) so it has an ECU with an old school OBD1 diagnostics.
I have a way to extend the life of an engine from my old POS '79 L82 Corvette. Stop driving it! Once I stopped driving it completely, it gave zero problems. Only problem was, I wasn't planning on a statue in my garage.
My 2015 Ford I just bought 5 days ago has 160K miles on it and has a turbo charged engine. I drive only 2000 miles at most per year, but will get oil changes every 6 months.
*Turbos* : I know someone who always "drove on the brakes" ( drove it hard ). He flew into the driveway, turned it off, and BANG. The turbo blew up. It was a company car, so he didn't have to pay for the damage. He was lucky ...
That's because the turbo continues to spool for a while even after the engine is shut off. If it's still spinning at a bazillion rpms with no oil pressure, it's gonna be a bad day.
@@GixxerRider1991 He said it made a hell of a bang. Years ago we were going to a wedding. Roadworks etc - we were running late. I gunned it for the last part of the trip to make up time. Screeched to a halt outside the church ( everyone was already inside ). My poor petrol Volvo 343 continued to run after I turned it off and took out the key. I was told it got so hot it was "self detonating". No harm done surprisingly. Man, I loved that car ! So comfy. Surprisingly quick !
I own a flawless 2018 Chrysler 300c, ordered like the Platinum without the HEMI, 3.6L V6 with 9,369 miles on the odometer, less than 1,800 miles per year. I use Synthetic Oil, serviced at the Dealer. I asked the Dealer how often I should change my oil and they told me once a year with my current mileage. That said, it is at its annual oil change, but the oil is clean and the car tells me it is at 94%. My 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, with the same engine, has 11,989 miles on the odometer, the same question. Neither vehicle has ever been a problem, but I do not plan on buying another car, EVER! I live in Marxist California, Ventura County so we don't have excessive weather changes.
I Change my oil every 3000 miles * OIL is Cheap!.... & it is " 0W-16 Synthetic " yep! .....0-16....that is how good the tolerances are on the New Lexus 450h+ "F" Sport. However I only fire the ICE every 2 month for 2 miles and shut it down!!!........... I drive 98% in Elec. up to 49 miles all Elec.....this model of hybrid has the best of all worlds / choices. So I do -not have to deal with petroleum blow by dirt under hood / parts all like new....always having the ICE back up for 89 miles per gal combined in hybrid. & very quick vehicle i.e. elec torq.
Yes, Sir regarding Oil Filters - those super filters kill engines too. This means restricting oil flow. Less lubrication less oil getting in the time Can imagine in cold weather a tight Oil Filter = almost nothing can get to the Filter only dirty oil goes to the bypass valve. This is killing your engine with pride I paid 50$ for Super Filter. 7500Km - 9000Km Oil change is much more important than those special filters Even the cheapest Filter protecting your engine is much better than those super one 1micron. The owner of the Car needs to know how and where he drives - only bumper-to-bumper - and change the oil frequntly - on the way from Vancouver to Montreal change as the manufacturers recommend.
I believe the oil service light means nothing. I hardly drive my car and in 1 year I had 1,400 miles on the odometer and it told me the Oil life was at 0 and I needed an oil change.
My car feels like it runs better after a good wash 😂. Na I’m a lil early on my maintenance on 22 es base I’m almost at 16k miles . I drove a new altima the other day wich is nice but ride quality didn’t compare .
Buy a Toyota and change the oil and filter with quality oil every 6 months/6000 miles and the engine will last forever. I have been in Toyota Corolla 1800cc 6 speed manuals in Thailand with 1 Million kms (620,000 miles) on the clock on original engine and gearbox.
@@arizolamydude I now live in Thailand and have two Toyota Hilux 2.8 diesel Pick up trucks and a Toyota Corolla 1.8 petrol. Oil changes at Toyota dealerships in Thailand are about 3,200 baht => £74 => US$88 for Toyota fully synthetic oil, oil filter and labour.
I used to like cars when the service manual was little more than a pamphlet. Now you get 2 and a half inches of manual you must follow on a regular basis. Got rid of 1 car and down to sharing 1 with my wife. I think I will go back to leasing because I can turn it in prior to all the significant maintenance items that need to be performed. Hard to find honest and good mechanics. Too many times I was charged for services not performed or performed incorrectly. So, I don't want it to last forever! Just gimme a new one that's less boring than the last one.🙂
My Nissan kicked off the engine check service light at 60,000. The tech came out to my car and showed me how to reset it and told me it will be back again at 90,000. They program these cars to make you come in for service.
No no no. I would definitely do it more frequently. If you are a bit of a DIYer you can even pull oil up with a suction pump and change filter at the top makes for a quick change even at home
Change your oil & filter every 5,000 miles or six-months, whichever occurs first. Oil & filters are cheap, engines and repairs are expensive (labor hours and parts).
I told my girlfriend she has an extra 50lbs of “ junk in the trunk” and it’s not good for her health ! Now I don’t get to drive her beautiful fun AMG Mercedes at all anymore 😢
Haha, that’s fair, some people are sold on the lower maintenance approach. One thing to remember is a 200 dollar oil change twice a year works out to 4000 in 10 years whereas a serious premium goes to the EVs as the 4K is easily offset by pricey new technology.
LOL...Mercedes engines already last forever..it is the rest of the car that will be dead after the warranty goes out....but with a solid engine you will still be able to drive to the dealer and get it fixed for $2,000 a visit.
He used to love BMW, then he switched to "I'll never buy another BMW" and nowadays there are BMW models that he really likes and appreciates. So there's no hate toward the brand ...

Sitting a lot with short drives creates acids and as a result I would change it at least once a year anyway
Thanks for reminding me to clean my trunk
I drive highway 100 miles a day x 5 days. I get to 5000 miles in 10 weeks. Do highway miles matter?
what you say about Liqui Moly oils ? can they be changed little late if the car is not driven that much ?what should be the timeline?
Great oil and I have used it on my Porsches and Lamborghini and I trust it. With that said, minimum once a year or mileage based as before mentioned
Dodge drango rt ?
Very good job with this video😊
Thank you very much
So drive like miss Daisy ?
My car is rubbish unless driven a bit hard.
No boost from turbo until 3000 rpm+
& very quick vehicle i.e. elec torq.
Sounds like a great vehicle indeed. Very flexible.
Thanks for sharing this important message. 👍

Yes, Sir regarding Oil Filters - those super filters kill engines too.
This means restricting oil flow.
Less lubrication less oil getting in the time
Can imagine in cold weather a tight Oil Filter = almost nothing can get to the Filter only dirty oil goes to the bypass valve.
This is killing your engine with pride I paid 50$ for Super Filter.
7500Km - 9000Km Oil change is much more important than those special filters
Even the cheapest Filter protecting your engine is much better than those super one 1micron.
The owner of the Car needs to know how and where he drives - only bumper-to-bumper - and change the oil frequntly - on the way from Vancouver to Montreal change as the manufacturers recommend.
Exactly great point. Frequent oil service is the best tactic
@@ECPP I made a mistake For the Viscosity Index I wrote 2005 which has to be 205 - the system not aloud for me to make corrections or edits.
For sure. Thanks for sharing
Top Tier Fuel,Change oil 3000miles Change air filter, change plugs. Keep it clean or Pay.
Thanks for sharing
I will ONLY buy Toyota's. The most dependable cars on the planet!
What oil do you use?
The manual of my new Jaguar F pace 3L I6 recommend to replace oil and filter after 2 years 34000 km / 21000 miles , really ????????😄
No no no. I would definitely do it more frequently. If you are a bit of a DIYer you can even pull oil up with a suction pump and change filter at the top makes for a quick change even at home
Mark is trying to put the auto mechanic out of work 😅, great video, Mark 👍
Thanks 👍
I redlined an engine for 15 years. 7000 RPM. Changed my oil and filter every 2000 miles. Would not have it any other way.
Forgot transmision fluid change
Yikes
Change oil every 5000 km will perfect for your engine. 😊
Exactly, oil is fairly cheap
Toyota says to change oil 🛢 every 10k but I do mine at 5k....they act like I'm crazy 🤪 but idc.
Yes, more frequent is always better
5k is WAAAAAY to long. 3K maxx! Preferably 1.5 k
@@highlymedicated2438Nah change every day
Change your oil & filter every 5,000 miles or six-months, whichever occurs first. Oil & filters are cheap, engines and repairs are expensive (labor hours and parts).
🇨🇦Great Tips Mark ❤ Thxs
Glad you enjoyed it!
Avoid jiffy lubes and jiffy oil change joints..
I told my girlfriend she has an extra 50lbs of “ junk in the trunk” and it’s not good for her health ! Now I don’t get to drive her beautiful fun AMG Mercedes at all anymore 😢
Hahaha, cheers
Honestly i my opinion if you got turbo change every 3k miles.. Turbo vehicles burns oil like crazy
LOL.. 20 degrees Celcius is considered as warm temperature? That's so Canadian
It is warm here
Many engines don't like to run in such a low rpms. Otherwise you leak the engine very hard. Definitely more then 2000rpm
Oil is actually a lubricant? Who knew!
Except that 4.4V8 twin turbo. You cant save that garbage
1000$ for a timing belt change. This sounds pure theft to us Europeans.
Mark you just convinced me that EV's are the way to go with little to no maintenance and no moving parts to worry about.
Haha, that’s fair, some people are sold on the lower maintenance approach. One thing to remember is a 200 dollar oil change twice a year works out to 4000 in 10 years whereas a serious premium goes to the EVs as the 4K is easily offset by pricey new technology.
I drop anywhere from $300- $500 for routine service maintenance at Mercedes. @@ECPP
EV's are junk and can spontaneously catch fire and the fire is almost impossible to put out! No thanks.
Until the battery goes out every 5-10 years and costs $20k to replace
Battery Replacement is WAY WAY More than regular Servicing.
EV is a FOOLS Choice
LOL...Mercedes engines already last forever..it is the rest of the car that will be dead after the warranty goes out....but with a solid engine you will still be able to drive to the dealer and get it fixed for $2,000 a visit.
Thanks
Why did he say ‚Celsius‘?
Because that is the way of the world
mark you cannot preach oil services enough man people just do not get it
I can't even hear my engine lol
mark you cannot preach changing your oil enough man people just do not get it
Life’s too short to worry about car engines 😂
I take short trips everyday.... DON'T EVER DO THAT
Always get it out on open road !11
Common sense stuff. No brainer. Remember oil is cheap, engine is not!
All vehicles are a bunch of metal bolts and screws no one should fall in love with a car it's just a vehicle nothing more
Thanks
omfg@20k oil changes
Who cuts your hair???
haha, my still weed trimmer, lol
Who the hell cut your hair??
Haha, well…..
You are biased ,you hate bmw brand
No Bias and I really like several BMW offerings especially with their newer engine setups
@@ECPPindeed, if they only knew that you still own BMW. 🤣
Well said Mark!
Incredible that the manufacturers recommend such a long interval for oil change. Shameless, even defying common sense
He used to love BMW, then he switched to "I'll never buy another BMW" and nowadays there are BMW models that he really likes and appreciates. So there's no hate toward the brand ...
How have your vehicles been holding up Thomas? I see we also just found winter.....and in a big way, lol. How are things over there?
