I love it. It does sound like a pedal I would love, and everyone else at band practice would hate! “Oh hang on, that’s not the setting… how did I do that again? Etc…”
@@JasonTMays creating samples? That is cool. I think this and an analog synth pedal together might get me through a writing block. I just need to remember the settings.
@@DanHoskins529 Yea, I'll create loops and samples and take it into Logic and create samples that way. It's a great tool for accompaniment. I use it all the time for that.
I'm surprised how warm, tasteful, and subtle this pedal can get, sounds very good with your style, Jason. Of course it can also get crazy and glitchy but that seems easier to accomplish.
Excellent overview Jason, you're doing a great job with these videos. I'm at the stage in a Chase Bliss release where I'm thinking "it's different enough from my other CBA pedals, I might need it". I didn't really gel with the Outward and sold it as well, but this version seems a lot more versatile.
Onward is a 10/10 for me!! Instant love! Soundscapes and glitchy textures galore. Really love locking in a growling drone and playing over it. The half speed dip really opens up some short frippertronic abilities too. Great demo and playing Jason!!
Thank you 🙏🏾 Glad you enjoy it! I love onward! For me it’s been a huge success and has inspired a lot of samples for me. It’s earned its place on my board!
@Jason Mays: The omnipotent algorithm recommended this video to me seconds ago, but I need to go back to sleep before work. Consider this comment thanks for posting the pedal review, and hopefully a little boost for your channel. I've seen a couple videos for the Onward pedal already, and while it appears promising, I'm not sure how useful it would be since I try to play guitar. Saved to Watch Later for work tonight.
Welcome back! And god bless the algorithm! lol. I tried to show how this pedal can be used in a more practical way. But, let me know what you think when you watch it later tonight! 😬
@@JasonTMays Hello and good morning, sir! (05:41 CST on Thursday, 25 July). I wasn't able to watch this on Wednesday night as I had hoped but I just listened to it with headphones on. I like the tone you got with what you played at around the 7:00 mark in the 'Freeze' section of the video. Was the bit at approximately 3:30 a Radiohead riff? It sounded quite familiar. As another commenter mentioned, Chase Bliss appears to be cost-prohibitive for many people but their offerings seem especially versatile; almost like buying two or three pedals in a single enclosure. I think the most significant stumbling block I have is that the music I primarily enjoy doesn't seem to lend itself well to the Onward but I could be wrong - the fun is in finding out.
@@williaml.6922 Thank you!! Yes, that was indeed a Radiohead riff, Weird Fishes to be exact. I can agree with that, I know Im a bit of a Chase Bliss fanboy...but they're one of the few companies I can say without hesitation are more than worth the price. I think it depends on how you want to approach Onward, I get that it's not for everybody. But if you're willing it can be pretty fun for a more unconventional type of sound.
Your demos always sound fantastic! I know that most of the time you use the Supro Royale but what about the mic? What mic do you use to capture the cab? Do you use any attenuators or do you have any special acoustic treatment? Love your videos!!!
Thank you! Seriously, I appreciate the kind words and it’s always nice to know folks enjoy what I do. But as far as a mic goes, I use a cascade far head.
Chase Bliss makes great stuff, Im still doing reviews on $20 pedals 🤣, but I am no where near as accomplished as you. This is a great pedal for creativity
I say $20 is the gateway, to $200, and beyond🤣 Thank you for the vote of confidence, occasionally a viewer chimes in to the contrary, but I’m not there for them 🤙
The one person I was looking forward to seeing get their hands on this. I want this pedal. It's the most Chase Blissy Chase Bliss pedal since the Mood (imo). The only thing holding me back is I've run out of room on the power supply so then I'm either ditching my Mood for Onward or I gotta get a Canvas 15 for the Onward. Neither of which sounds like a good idea right now. Finger crossed Chase Bliss keeps making these for a while. they have a bad habit of making cool shit for a little bit. A little bit less time than it takes me to be able to grab said cool shit.
Love this overview. I also love that you played a riff from Radiohead's "Weird Fishes" from In Rainhows, which really helped me understand this pedal better. Can we nornalize pedal demos using Radiohead riffs instead of blues licks?? Thanks 😆
Dude!!! Thank you!!!! 🙏🏾 that means a lot! I’m glad I can help you understand how this pedal functions! And I agree!!! I try to demo Radiohead with damn near anything I do. lol. 😂
Love the content bro! I was wondering if you had recommendations for an amp in the box pedal that i could get some nice nugaze/shoegaze tones, i guess good clean and breakup?
Hmm! I really love the strymon iridium. But the UA dream does the best fender sound out of anything and I’ll live by that! I’ve got some content coming up on the kemper profile player.

That said, I really enjoyed a lot of the sounds you got out of this one once you toned down the glitch effect. Thanks for the demo, Jason. Appreciate it as always.
I want me a chase bliss pedal but cant decide between Mood or Onward. I don't care really about accessibility, I'm ready to make deep dives but I've always been mostly an improviser. What would you choose?
I would go with MOOD. I always felt like MOOD is like the quintessential Chase Bliss pedal. It’s encompasses a lot and isn’t super daunting for someone just jumping into the world of Chase Bliss.
Have you guys had a chance to check out the source audio artifakt? It does some of this plus a lot of the stuff that the chroma console does in a compact box.
