This is such a great video. I'm part of the LGBTQ and I'm studying to be a Nurse Practitioner. Thank you for filming this!

I applaude the transgender woman in this video who spoke so calmly but powerfully about this issue. I am both a transgender man and a medical doctor, and I feel for what she and her friend went through. As things improve, I hope she and others can feel safe to talk about this confidently

Jane, I am so sorry that you were assaulted! That is not okay! No one should be treated like that, especially by a doctor or anyone in healthcare. The discharge letter he sent to you was not thoughtful of him. If anything, it was cowardly. Somewhere inside, he knew that his behavior was disrespectful and wrong. It is also possible that a computer or clinic staff member generated that letter after a certain amount of time had lapsed. It is likely that he is not kind enough or self-reflective enough to carry any guilt or shame about that moment. You should not have to carry that moment around, because of his mistakes and misjudgment. You deserve better! You deserve to feel safe in your body, in the world!

When I was a little girl my mom always got me a pixie cut, Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday” style, only 5 year old style, and adults would call me a little boy. As an adult I started cutting my hair short too, but I was clearly a young woman and most people didn’t mistake me…,you get older, they mistake you again. I was indignant as a little girl and I didn’t care so much later. I was amused as a matter of fact. (I tried to fool people as I worked in the automotive business and many people automatically think you must be a guy). It’s funny when they see you are a female. Even as a little girl though, I thought boys were dorks and being a girl was awesome and the only advantage they had was being able to pee standing up without taking half your clothes down (if you wore pants). Otherwise boys were just dumb and had cooties.

I have had some of those thoughts as well, and it makes me think. Standing up to pee, is just one of many great advantages that trans women, or any other non-male identifying people, with penises can enjoy. Something to celebrate!

Oh my..... what a shallow life when your pronouns are the vein of your existence.
