You don't really understand irish culture. Much of our culture is based around the pub sing-song, where somebody sings a song and everybody joins in. For an upbeat song like this the group want the audience to sing along. This shows that they know the songs and that they are enjoying themselves by taking part. Now for other songs such as Ave Maria then the audience should be quiet. Nothing wrong with singing along just has to be with the right song.

@@tuff8000 you got no idea how much fun it is singing allong in the crowd during these classic songs of theirs... honestly you aint a fan if you dont... when i sang orinoco flow i was in front row and Chloe saw me her smile was so big!! i think for a artist if people sing your songs like this it means allot to them so they know its good music and you enjoy it!!

Exactly. They *want* you to sing along.
I thought it was brilliant how many in the audience actually know the chorus of this.
Especially since that part, a lot of the people probably learned from either Irish or Scottish tradition, not from Celtic Woman.
      Wow. Lovely. 😍

I'm sorry, but did Mairead just run on the stage and litterally bounce while not missing a note on her fiddle...SHE ROCKS!!!! Like Tinkerbell changed into a real person! and given hyper-violin-playing chops!!!

+Steven Ware oh yes you did. Mairead moves and plays the violin at the same time. That is a Mairead Nesbitt trademark. She's always moving. The only way to keep her from moving would be to put her in plaster or cement so she can only move from the arms up. I wonder how much hair she loses on tour from playing the violin.(it gets stuck in the bow or strings and gets pulled out per Mairead N)

I believe that it's comes from the hundreds of year's of oppression and denial of the language and heritage.
The British suppressed anything and everything that they could after defeating them in multiple war's. They forced everything into the underground.

Irish and Scottish people are the only people who can sing. When God gave out the singing voices, Ireland and Scotland and possibly Wales got the lot. But that's good. Makes it easier to find good music.🇦🇺♥️

Mo Ghile Mear" (My Gallant Darling) is an old Irish song, written in the Irish language by Seán Clárach, Mac Domhnaill in the 18th century.
By the 1700's, the old Gaelic order in Ireland and Scotland was crumbling before the advances of the colonizing English. The hopes of both peoples rested with Prince Charles Stuart, "Bonnie Prince Charles." He is the "gile mear" of the song.
For a while I was a gentle maiden
And now a spent worn-out widow
My spouse ploughing the waves strongly
Over the hills and far away.
He is my hero, my dashing darling
He is my Caesar, dashing darling.
I've had no rest from forebodings
Since he went far away my darling.
The cuckoo sings not pleasantly at noon
And the sound of hounds is not heard in nut woods,
Nor summer morning in misty glen
Since he went away from me, my lively boy.
    Noble, proud young horseman
Warrior unsaddened, of most pleasant countenace
    A swift-moving hand, quick in a fight,
Slaying the enemy and smiting the strong.

Can you feel the river run?
Waves are dancing to the sun
Take the tide and face the sea
And find a way to follow me
Leave the field and leave the fire
And find the flame of your desire
Set your heart on this far shore
And sing your dream to me once more
'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear
    'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear
Suan gan séan ní bhfuair mé féin
Ó chuaigh I gcéin mo ghile mear
(He is my hero, my dashing darling
He is my Caesar, dashing darling
Rest or pleasure I did not get
Since he went far away, my darling)
Now the time has come to leave

Know that love will shine through darkness
One bright star to light the wave

Know that I will sing to you
Each night as I dream of you
'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear
    'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear

    'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear
Suan gan séan ní bhfuair mé féin
Ó chuaigh I gcéin mo ghile mear
Gile mear, the wind and sun
The sleep is over, dream is done
To the west where fire sets
To the gile mear, the day begun
'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear
    'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear

Sirens don't always sing of sexual acts. They sing of what the person wishes for most. For some sailors it was their wives and children calling them home. Others it was riches and fame. This means these women could very well be sirens who gave up their wings(as sirens were the bird women not the mermaids most people think they are)

    • @officert5147
      @officert5147 8 років тому +9

Same. I was hoping to find maybe some softness in the comments of such a timeless, beautiful performance. People will bitch about anything to the point where they don't want to do anything else. Honestly they're not worth it. Who is more true to the spirit of song and story -- those who whine about technicalities and cling so loyally to the way things used to be that they are hostile to anything different? or those who listen to the song and find their own meaning in it, who find new beauty in an ancient melody despite a fast-changing world of traditions, languages, and lineups? Songs and stories survive through generations and wars and famines by changing a little bit each time they are told. And the magic of them is that even over a thousand years or a thousand miles--their beauty can still be recognized by all kinds of people. They are rejuvenated and given new life that reflects the cultures and people they pass through. Every new voice that sings an old song adds a new color, a new story to the brilliant tapestry woven across countries and years. Over a thousand years or a thousand miles, the spirit of a song grows more complex and gains nuance… and through everything still burns as brightly as it did when it was first sung. This rendition is not "worse" just because it is new.

Someone commented that one of Mairead's dancing moveS looked LIKE something from Lord of the Dance.
Actually,Nesbitt broke into the wider world in 1996 when she was invited to perform in the Michael Flatley show Lord of the Dance There, she played lead fiddle until 1998, at which time she went with Flatley to his second show, Feet of Flames. She toured in this production, again as lead fiddler, until leaving in 2001. Nesbitt also played on the original soundtracks to both shows, as well as for the soundtrack to Riverdance.
So yes,her background is Lord of the Dance. The young lady hasn't missed a step bless her heart.

The concert lasted over two hours, but seemed over too damn quickly, like in 10 minutes. I wept four times during the show, especially when they gave tribute to the U.S.A. It was overwhelming! They all are so beautiful and talented! If they ever come close to your home town, within 200 miles say, go see them! Don't hesitate! GO! Get blessed!

i have had the great privilege of seeing these lovely ladies in concert three times and each time was a very special event. they seem to have fun and to enjoy what they do. that and the way that they interact with the people sets them apart from any other singing group. so if you are able to see them in person please do so. i think you will be very surprised .

    Lyrics:
    Lá na mara
    Lá na mara nó rabharta
    Guth na dtonnta a leanadh
Guth na dtonnta a leanfad ó
Lá na mara nó lom trá
    Lá na mara nó rabharta
    Lá an ghainimh, lom trá
    Lá an ghainimh
    (The day of the sea
The day of the sea or of the high tides
To follow the voice of the waves
I would follow the voice of the waves
The day of the sea or the ebb tide
The day of the sea or of the high tides
The day of the sands, the ebb tide
    The day of the sands)
Can you feel the river run?
Waves are dancing to the sun
Take the tide and face the sea
And find a way to follow me
Leave the field and leave the fire
And find the flame of your desire
Set your heart on this far shore
And sing your dream to me once more
    [Chorus:]
'Sé mo laoch mo ghile mear
    'Sé mo Shéasar, gile mear
Suan gan séan ní bhfuair mé féin
Ó chuaigh I gcéin mo ghile mear
(He is my hero, my dashing darling
He is my Caesar, dashing darling
Rest or pleasure I did not get
Since he went far away, my darling)
Now the time has come to leave
Keep the flame and still believe
Know that love will shine through darkness
One bright star to light the wave
    [Chorus]
    Amhrán na farraige
    Ór are na seolta
    Amhrán na farraige
    Ag seoladh na bhfonnta...
    (Song of the sea
    Gold on the sails
    Song of the sea
    Sending the melodies...)
Lift your voice and raise the sail
Know that love will never fail
Know that I will sing to you
Each night as I dream of you
    [Chorus]
    Ag seinm na farraige
    Ag seinm na farraige
    (Playing the sea
    Playing the sea)
    Seinn... Play...
    [Chorus]
Gile mear, the wind and sun
The sleep is over, dream is done
To the west where fire sets
To the gile mear, the day begun
    [Chorus 2x]
Ó chuaigh I gcéin mo ghile mear
(Since he went far away, my darling)
    Amhrán na farraige
    Ór are na seolta
    Ag seoladh na bhfonnta
    (Song of the sea
    Gold on the sails
    Sending the melodies)

I miss them too, but if Meav and Orla hadn't left, we wouldn't have seen Alex and Lynn, and if _they_ hadn't left we wouldn't have hot lil' Lambe, and if Lisa Kelly hadn't left, we wouldn't have Susan, who is as dazzling as Meav (see Home for Christmas). Now we've lost Chloe, which is the biggest hit CW has ever taken, but it's still Celtic Woman. At least until Mairead Nesbitt retires. Then it's over unless David knows another gorgeous violin virtuoso who dances like a Broadway showgirl. And while every new show is hailed as their best ever, IMO they never topped A New Journey. Orla and Hayley and Meav, oh my!

    • @drmayeda1930
      @drmayeda1930 8 років тому

+Steve Rush They would find another violin player but she wouldn't be the same. It's a toss up who's loss would kill the group David Down or Mairead Nesbitt. I don't know about Orla but Maeve, Lisa K, Chloe, Lynn H, Alex would be my ideal lineup 5 singers and Mairead on violin
