Thank-you SO much for this. I bought a fixer-upper with wall all the rooms popcorned and I'm doing it myself. Fortunately the ceilings are not that high. I can do it all from a 3 step step kitchen step stool. That scraper is going to be a lifesaver. I just got it yesterday and it is amazing! I ordered it and the gallon pump sprayer and Amazon shipped it free to my door. I gave them a test run yesterday and woohoo! I'm on my way. I've watched a lot of videos on this and no one else showed that scraper. It's design brilliance!
You two did a great job! One tip to help reduce mess is to wear those disposable shoe covers while in the room. With the water whatever does fall on the floor will cling to shoes and be tracked around the rest of the house.
What I find is it is always better to put your own hands on tour home, and do repairs and changes. Even though you won't do a perfect job first time round. The advantage is after you have experience, and you can then do it over and over also teaching your children and if you choose do it on the side. I bought my home years ago and asked how much it would cost to do the bathroom. The price was stunning, so I decided to do it myself. I did the toilet, sink, bath, shower tiles ripped out everything. Up to this day people think a professor did it. I can now confidently do any room, I also feel proud of myself as I see it was me that did my own home. Also my lady and children look at me in a different way, they admire me which does feel good. It it really is just educating yourself which is always a good thing
I wish I had watched your video first. I just started a tiny laundry room and did not put down plastic, nor did I have the scraping tool with the grocery bag. I have plaster everywhere! I have an entire house to do and I am SOOOO happy I stumbled upon your video! Thanks for the tips.
I'm pretty sure I'll never remove my popcorn ceiling, but I learned a lot about how 2 do it from this tutorial. You and your husband did a great job of explaining it, showing the technique and your finished room was beautiful. Thanks to you and your husband for sharing.😷
Something everyone should be aware of is that some of the older homes with popcorn ceilings could have asbestos in them. So if your home was built after 1977 there's a good chance you don't have any asbestos in the popcorn ceiling but if your home was built before 1977 it would be a good idea to test to see whether the popcorn ceiling contains asbestos before you attempt to remove it. Just an FYI for all those who like to DIY things themselves. Stay safe as you work.
@@tuneaddicted in the US it seems you can simply buy test kits on amazon and send the sample to a lab. Considering the builders could have simply used old stock material that contained or was contaminated with asbestos, it may be the best investment of your life to just get it checked.
I enjoy watching you two work together to make your house the home you envision. I know first hand how much work goes into a remodel so I know the challenges that the mess can bring to your day to day life but it can also be a bit of fun having working out ingenious ways to combat the mess and in the end it's sooooo worth it!!

All I can say is thank goodness my house did not have popcorn ceilings!! I just like to see people who do things right! You must have a *huge* sense of satisfaction after tackling this job!!❤️
My home is 26 years old 1700 square feet and popcorn in every room! I'm redoing our floors in the Spring next year and will be removing the popcorn prior to laying down my floors. I've been waiting for a DIY on the floors and watched your's a few minutes ago. Thank you for both DIYs and all of the great tips.
Good tutorial, love the Latino engineer. My eldest son is the Italian engineer lol, he figured out how to do this doing it the way you are. That old drywall compound, yep that’s what it is, is such a pain. Great work good types. Dollar tree bags lol. Muchias gracias.
That scraper with the bag attachment and the orbital sander that connects to the shop vac are GAME CHANGERS!!! Very cool! So you left the ceilings completely smooth with no knock down texture? I wish we could’ve seen a closeup of how that looked.

Great tutorial! We paid for popcorn removal in our living room and family room. It was expensive. I think we are going to attempt this in our bedroom. 🤔
Very easy to understand the process of removing popcorn ceiling. If you are going to replace ceiling Sheetrock can you just skip the process of scraping off popcorn ceiling?

Very interesting and helpful video, thanks :-) Do you do anything different the ceiling has been painted, like so many of them have been over the years?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you again Yami. Hubby and I want to scrap all the nasty popcorn off our ceilings soon. This helps so much.
Thank u so much for sharing this with us .... before I get my new carpet this has to be done 1st but didn't really know how to go about it. 😀 thank u God bless plz stay safe.... love from Michigan
It will work your arm and shoulder without the extra weight of that bag of heavy wet popcorn... We just used a cardboard flat from a case of canned drinks.... 12" knife in one hand the flat in the other moving in sync.. you can quickly and easily empty the flat.... that bag will kill your shoulder..! I did this type of work for many years.
The bag tool is an amazing bit of kit, unfortunately it only ships from the US, and have had no luck finding a version for the UK (shipping is a fun cost).
It looks like a good way to remove the popcorn from the ceiling but i didnt hear mentioned anything about getting an asbestos test done first before starting this project, did you get one done on this before you removed the popcorn? I just purchased the kit from home depot online fir 10$ takes few days to receive it its only a plastic bag with instructions to remove samples of the popcorn then it has to be sent out to a lab to be tested for asbestos which costs bout 40$ takes few days for the results but i would rather do this before starting a project like this to gave a piece of mind that that popcorn foesnt contain asbestos in it.

Update your links please and add fine dust filter for shop vac. Great confidence building video! Thanks you two.
Wow it’s look amazing after all the work done. I like your videos and never missed it.
Thank you so much! So happy to hear you enjoy our channel. 🥰
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you again Yami. Hubby and I want to scrap all the nasty popcorn off our ceilings soon. This helps so much.
I’m so happy this was useful information!!! You both can totally conquer those popcorn ceilings. 😊💕
@@TheLatinaNextDoor yes we can. Thank you again.
Did you test for asbestos? My home was built in 2002 just wondering if I should get it tested or not🥴
That is what i am wondering because even if it was built after 1978 some cheap contractors might have got some cheap old materials
Hi what type of sand grit was it used?
Thank u so much for sharing this with us .... before I get my new carpet this has to be done 1st but didn't really know how to go about it. 😀 thank u God bless plz stay safe.... love from Michigan
Glad this was helpful! Good luck with your ceilings as well! You can do it! 😊
What is that scraper with the bag attachment called and where can I get one
How long did it take to remove the acoustic in this room?
What kind of clips are those, for the store bag?
The scrapper is made by Homax by PPG. They make popcorn/knockdown spray too. Very useful tools for pro painters.
Wha brand of paint did you use please
Wow, what a transformation!! Well done! 💜
Thank you so much!!🥰
Thank You for sharing this video. I also have popcorn ceilings. What did you do when the popcorn has been painted?
If it is a flat latex paint (which ceilings usually are) then this process should work just the same. Perhaps test a small area first. 😊💕
Can you please share the link for the tools you have used in this project, I want to buy them and looking to complete this myself, thanks
Hi there! Thanks for your video. Mine has got radian ceiling. Would it be save to scrape the popcorn?
Sorry, I couldn't tell you if it's safe. If you're not sure I would definitely speak to a professional to get it looked at.
How many days did it take for one room?
thanks, you've convinced me to do it myself!
Awesome video, one of the best tutorials I have seen. If you don't mind me asking what wall color/brand did you choose 17:12
Thank you! Color is Shiplap by Magnolia
@@TheLatinaNextDoor Thank you!
II apologize for the added question, what ceiling paint did you go with? I'm literally trying to match that room.
No worries! I actually included a link in the description box. It’s eminence by Sherwin Williams. It’s their standard paint ceiling color.
@@TheLatinaNextDoor Thank you very much I really appreciate it!
Nice explainer video guys! This can be expensive to hire out.
It really is!
Great job! Looks fantastic!
The bag tool is an amazing bit of kit, unfortunately it only ships from the US, and have had no luck finding a version for the UK (shipping is a fun cost).
Great video!
Can you share the name of the tools and where you bought them? I can't find them
Thank you
Here it is! amzn.to/3ejuCIl
It depends on the age of your home. Ours didn’t have asbestos.
