    STORYLINE
President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, arrived at the White House on Monday for their first visit since last week's landslide election victory, the first official step in America's intricate minuet of transition from one president to the next.
The Obamas stepped out of a black limousine, and were greeted by outgoing president George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
The two couples briefly posed for photographers before the Bushes escorted the Obamas into the Executive Mansion that they'll call home in a little more than two months.
Bush and Obama were seen talking as they walked alone under the White House Colonnade, pausing for pictures before entering the Oval Office.
It was Obama's first time in the presidential chamber.
The 43rd and 44th US presidents were expected to discuss the challenges of leading a nation freighted in this hand-over of power by a severe economic downturn and two wars.
The country's troubles fall to Obama when he takes office January 20.
Bush and Obama were not scheduled to make any public statements during their time together.

tahiti treat, I never agreed with the invasion of Iraq because in turn it destabilized that part of the Middle East and strengthened Iran.
However, with regards to current issues in the U.S I hope there is a change for the common good of the American people.

@@cjcj2963 Fair enough. I would like people to know, Iraq was one of the most advanced and civilized countries in the area( After Lebanon). Women worked alongside men, women drove cars, Iraq had great healthcare, ZERO taxes and much more. It was way ahead of some European countries!!! Not to mention the cradle of civilization started there ( Mesopotamia & Babylon),,,,,,, Iraq wasn't Saudi, Libya or Pakistan!!! To blow it back to the stone age , now that is a sin. Bush started it and Obama finished it! The country will never recover...... It's much worse than what's happening in the US today. Let's be honest, every fatality is blamed on Covid, only to harm Trump even more. And of course, the left is after Trump, more than they are after the rotten Chinese communist party, that spread this virus everywhere.

I agree. We need to get back to the times when Democrats & Republicans could disagree on policies but still display mutual respect for one another. We've seen from the past that it IS possible to disagree & have civil debates on issues without demonizing & vilifying the other side. Can we ever return to such times or have we gone too far to turn back?

As a non-American, when I reached adulthood and aware of how politics across the world works, including my own country, I was amazed at how American presidents can sincerely and without fuss, transfer such an awesome duty and power from one to another. Yet at the same time, mundane... "C'mon, it's America... of course they can do that, they're a great power and a mature republic unlike us. There's nothing weird about Al Gore conceding an election that included tons of shenanigans against him, of course an American politician will do that for the good of his country."
And then Trump came along. And although I knew he will never do it from the minute he lost, I gotta admit a part of me died a little seeing Biden taking the power from an unwilling party (although rightfully), breaking the symbol and tradition of American democratic stability with it.

President Bush (43) showed exactly how a US Presidential transition is _supposed_ to be. Cooperative, cordial, professional, and almost boring. Bush wanted Obama to be prepared and welcomed.

I wish I had known how good it was then: I had the idea then that things may possibly improve dramatically for the middle class and poor. There was a feeling of hope for many people. Silly to think of it now...still surreal to know the person in this symbolic position of power is not working for the best interests of average Americans...maybe this next time around in 2020?? Please God. How are we tricked over and over into voting against our own interests?
