Just found and subscibed to your channel a few days ago. Your videos inspired me to get a diode laser. The Atomstack A5 is on its way from amazon prime. I hope to rent a shelf at my local antique / craft mall and make some extra money. Your coaster, tiles and canvas videos really inspired me. More laser videos please! Thanks so much!

I use Rustoleum clear and then burn personally. But you might try testing a few things. I've used baby oil before and after burning with nice results. I've also painted a slate and burnt the paint away to make it look like a road sign.

Just ran the Nicky Norton test file on a piece of old roof slate with my new Atomstack X20 Pro and it looks like I'll have to stick to the %10 power ranges even at the fastest speed unless I want to start getting some amber coloring. At least it'll be fast. Thanks for the tips as this is my first laser.

One is a 5500mW and the other is a 2500mW - I am wondering what one you use for the majority of your projects? I have been using the 5500 but it seems too powerful to match up with your speed and power settings so now have the 2500 one set up and doing some testing with that. Thanks again and keep up the videos, they are much appreciated and enjoyed. ~Peace~ Steve

Hi Jim .... Good video but pity you didn't show what you did in imag-r first or if you even did anything in there.
. Or even how you positioned the slate so the engraving came out in the perfect spot on the slate.
Or even how you focussed it and framed it!
There may be newcomers who don't know about those parts of the job who could now be flailing around in l'burn cursing you for making them think that was all was needed 🙂

Many thanks for this great video. I got my Atomstack X7 pro today and tried my first coasters. I did not expected good quality for the first ones, but i was surprised how sharp and good the coasters looked. The only thing i couldnt find out is, why my engraving looks a little bit greenish. I rubbed the engraving with some aceton and a magice rubber, but nothing changed. Do you maybe have an idea, how i can get the engraving/marking white like yours? I am using a M1 MacBook Pro Max and lightburn. The first problem was, that lightburn didnt recognized my p7 through my macbook, so i had to add a device manually. I choosed GRBL-LPC and it worked.
Maybe this is the wrong device and the power isnt correct with this device. I used exact the same settings from this video. Maybe the slate is other from the quality!?
As a beginner its hard to say, but maybe you know a good tip.
Love your channel and keep up the good work

I cannot anecdotally say, but I suspect you will be just fine with or without air assist for engraving. Grab a few tiles and give it a burn. Check Michaels WalMart or other supplier...I intend to buy a large format slate tile and cut it down to size.
I have seen so many cool slate tiles. I suspect pictures (if settings get honed in) would look awesome too.
