- 高岡漆器は、江戸時代の初めに、加賀藩の藩主前田利長が、現在の富山県高岡市に高岡城を築いたとき、武具や箪笥、膳等日常生活品を作らせたのが始まりです。
堆朱、存清といった中国の技法を元にした彫刻塗やサビ漆で花鳥山水を描いた勇助塗、貝や玉石の貼り付け技法を駆使した青貝塗の三種があります。
The Takaoka lacquerware craft was established at the beginning of the Edo era (1600-1868) when the lord of the Kaga clan built Takaoka castle in what is now the city of Takaoka. Soon, lacquerers began making all types of household goods as well as armor and weaponry.
They have perfected the art of Takaoka-shikki on the basis of Chinese lacquer art techniques. Such motifs as flowers, birds, and human figures are inlaid with pieces of shell, sometimes less than 0.1 millimeter thick.Takaoka-shikki is renowned for its highly decorative techniques.

My dad (a-whole) "taught me", that they were made by painting layer after layer on "nothing", and polishing after each one. Made it sound as if it was hundreds of layers, making the product "un-payable".. He loooved to tell lies to sound interesting and smart. "Everything" I learn seems to underline my hate of him.. Cool work and videos though. :)

how did he make the shell so thin?
They only apply a lacquer so they don’t make the shell but usually shells are grinded with a polishing sand or boiled to peeled off.
How can i buy one?Do they have an online shop?
