Someone came to our house every week in the beginning to help us and give tips and advice. Also we put a play thingy on the side of his bed where he had to look that way a lot more, and didn't lay on his prefered side. Sorry for my English😅 I'm from the Netherlands

As a mom, pharmacist, and someone who had a cousin and close friend have children with this condition, I strongly recommend you take the doctor's advice to get a helmet for your precious baby. It is but a short time in his life that he will have to wear it, but it will serve him well in the long run. Both my cousin and friend's children have perfectly shaped heads now. Continue to pray about it and ask the Lord to give you guidance. 💕

My son who is now 20 years old had a flat head when he was a baby from laying on his back. His pediatrician looked at it at his appointments and said it's nothing to worry about. He will just grow out of it. Over time his head rounded out. Just like the doctor said it would. It's really not that serious. Please ask if a helmet and all these things are necessary or get a second opinion because I'm sure it's not comfortable having to wear a hard helmet, when it might not be needed at all. Not all but there are some people including doctors who will tell you that something is needed just to make money off you. There are exercises I've known doctors to tell their patients that have a baby with a flattened head to do to help round it back out. All babies heads are soft until a certain age. After he's a few months old and starts doing tummy time and trying to sit up on his own or sitting up on his own with the help of a baby seat/ high chair among other activities and isnt laying on his back 90% of the time is when it will start to round back out on its own. I'm no doctor but this is a very common thing please do some research yourself and you will see.

@@LauraWells-uv1gn Every child and birth is different. Maybe he (unlike Your son) actually has a more severe case. I'm happy your son was unaffected in a negative way though.

@@TrendySavingsBudgeting no actually my son's head was a lot flatter as a baby then Joshua's. Every baby and birth is different, you're correct but this condition isn't from giving birth or the pregnancy. All babies have a soft skull. And if a baby spends a good amount of time laying on one side more than the other, it will make that part of the head flat.
This condition is VERY common. Yes of course the parent should bring the child to the pediatrician to get it checked out. But every single baby's skull is soft up to a certain age and they're going to have a flatter spot on one side more than the other until they get to a certain age and the skull will round itself out. It's really not that big of a deal and it kind of gets on my nerves that she and others make such a huge deal out of nothing, when there are babies who have major deformities and illnesses that are life threatening

As a child who had crooked legs and I wore wooden bottom boots with a bar that was screwed into the bottom of them for 23hrs a day. I didn't walk until I was almost 2yrs old but, when I did I walked straight and my bones weren't crooked anymore.
I tell you this story because had my parents waited and done all of the "alternative" methods then, I would have had to have surgery to correct.my legs and hips.
Go with the helmet. It may be a little inconvenient right now but, it's the quickest, easiest and safest way to correct his issue. The other methods are leaving him open to having more problems. Such as his head becoming more flat on the side they are concerned about and developing flatness on the other side of his head. The helmet will help to fix the one side, while simultaneously protecting and developing the rest of his head evenly. Just something to consider. He is the most beautiful baby❤

After reading the warning on the PerfectNoggin, it states, "For moderate to severe flattening, a well-made molding helmet can be beneficial in correcting whatever flattening is present. " So although, the helmet may not be esthetically appeasing, please keep in mind that the helmet is merely TEMPORARY vs something that could be PERMANANET if not adressed properly now. Blessing to you and your husband in the care for your son.

I gave birth in a coma at 26 weeks. When I woke they told me I had the baby. I got to meet my baby on the 10th day in Nicu.
He stayed there for three months. Because of the incubator and procedures he developed a flat head. We used a helmet and it helped. He turns 7 this July 14. Only when you touch his head you can feel a slight flat spot but you can’t see anything anymore.

Contrary to how many people may feel, it is sad and scary not knowing how your child will respond to a helmet or if they truly need it, as there is a chance they will grow out of it, also, there are companies who push the helmet when it isn’t really necessary. We wanted to ensure we exhausted all options before starting the helmet, but hearing testimonials like yours definitely make me feel better about it. Thanks for sharing! 🤗

Exactly! Here in Guadeloupe, caribbean that's how we afro-gwada shape our baby's head, we go about it massaging smoothly daily the baby head with the equivalent of Jamaican castor oil :karapa.
The baby's head is soft, so as a parent it is compulsory to close his/her top head crown and round up his head gradually. I take it as the gradually influence that we grown ups supposed to have over our young ones:education. 😊❤

@@MsNaturallyMaryIt’s probably no other way other than the helmet at this point, but for future babies, buy a slide sleeper pillow that it’s designed to keep them on their side when needed. I used this when I had my babies 24 yrs ago; each time I would lay them down for a nap, I would rotate them from the back, the next nap to the left side, then the next time the right side. This gives pressure on the head an even distribution amount so that the pressure is not constantly being placed on one side of the skull which is very soft & easily molded in or out of shape.

My son wore a helmet to shape his head and I was surprised to find out they’d been using these for over 20 years. They became more common once babies were recommended to sleep on their backs. My first son we shaped his flat head with our hands but our baby boy had a more severe case similar to this baby where his head was flat in the back and flat on one side and our hands wasn’t enough lol.

I share this because as a mom I was crushed I couldn't put little bows in her hair like other moms. She stood out. She never missed a beat and other kids ended up wanting a helmet too, lol. I felt bad until I realized it was best for her and she was fine with it. Seems like it is temporary and he looks sooooo happy no matter what! So nice to see he will be just fine. Blessings!!❤😊

Aww. Your son is so sweet and his little head is so cute. I would never have known it was flat. He’s beautiful. My grandmother blessed me and my babies by coming over to help me take care of my babies after each of them were born. She would do the honor of giving each of them their first baths and she also did a thing where she would place their little heads in her delicate hands as she talked to them and she’d very gently press on their little heads. They’d look up at her as she’d talk and sing to them.
One day I she revealed to me that she shaped their little heads (I had all vaginal births) while they were infants. Didn’t do any damage at all. Apparently, it was a common practice amongst women in and before my grandmother’s generation (she’s 93 now). I’m grateful. She always cane by to check on me after my pregnancies and she took excellent care of my babies too. My little humans are teenagers now. They all have perfectly round heads thanks to my granny. Certainly wasn’t me. She is a godsend.

You already have a diagnosis and the treatment won't cause him harm so definitely try it. When you are able to keep a close eye on him let him nap on his stomach. Wear him in a wrap so he's not laying down all day. He'll be pulling up and standing in like two months ( most babies do around 7 months) so that'll help also.

@@weirdandlazy1 Just because things have changed does not make it right or 100% effective. Placing babies in their backs was to supposedly prevent SIDS (sudden death syndrome). Some studies say it reduces SIDS by 50% but there are 50% who still succumb to this on their back. I and my husband come from huge families and neither side has lost a baby yet. All of my schoolmates had babies and not one lost a baby to SIDS. This was just in 1992 that back sleeping became “a-thing.” Result of back sleeping can cause a baby to have to go through re-shaping of their head. I was not telling Ms. Mary to put Baby on his tummy. I merely stated what we did.

Early prevention is always the most important and effective approach. I personally know someone who is grown with a flat head and their parents didn’t take it too serious, despite what the doctor recommended. They believed that their baby would grow into their head. Well many moons later, this person has never developed a fully shaped head and they are extremely insecure about it till this day. They feel that they can’t wear certain hairstyles due to it. And they try to conceal their extremely flat head shape by wearing extreme hairstyles that help to conceal the shape. I think the helmet, which is only worn for a short period of their childhood, is a very effective treatment for this condition. I’ve seen it help MANY babies who also have a severe case of flat head. Also, it’s non-invasive, meaning, it’s nothing surgical or pharmacological that needs to be done or taken. It’s merely just a helmet. That’s a win win for baby boy. I wish the best of luck with this process for your handsome baby boy ❤🥰God Bless!!!

So sorry this is happening to you too, I hate this situation for our society. There was a campaign that started generations ago called “back is best”. Doctors always recommend that to new parents. I never did that with any of my children. When I laid them down, they would be propped on their side and next nap, opposite side. I always hated being on the back because a baby that cannot move could aspirate if they need to spit up. But on the side, it can leak gently slide out of the mouth. Just know you did nothing wrong. Keep loving your baby.
